A: I think my life is a dark shade of red because its not completely bad, its not black, but a very dark shade of red, I would like more of a rorange color. That would be a red orange for all you retards out there.

A: Not Crayola, I'm not a big crayon expert so I don't really know brands of crayons but Crayola follows the pattern to much. I'm not exactly sure what other crayons there are but I would probably want be rorange but I'm not sure if they have that, maybe a cotton candy pink, not cause I'm gay, because I like that stuff.

A few moves earlier in the week weren't meant to shore up Cleveland's struggling pen. The first of which was designating for assignment their former ace closer Joe Borowski. The main news--the stop the presses you'll never believe what happened moment involve Andy Marte. The tribe's bench warmer third baseman has barley played this season and struggled when he has. With the fact that the team has pretty much fallen into wait for next year mode he'll be forced into the starting lineup. Well the corner man batting about a buck fifty logged his first RBI of the year. It only took him 28 games or over 50 at bats to do it. In comparison tribe Ace C.C Sabathia has as many runs batted in (1) and more HR's (1) in only 3 at bats. Marte also had a stellar performance in the field making a couple nice defensive plays.

C.C Sabathia appears to be on his way out of town possibly as early as Monday. The likely team is the Brewers for a package of prospects. It's a painful realization to come to but at a point where the team will be going nowhere and neither side is willing to shape their offers to meet in the middle there really is no other option. A team that can now only look to next year can't afford to lose a CY Young award winner for nothing. Two draft picks push the timetable for success back even further. I wonder if there was/is any pressure or guilt felt by C.C's teammates. I mean coming in to the season they sort of ha his future in their hands. If they had played well he'd more than likely continue in Cleveland's rotation for the entire year. If that was the case maybe the negotiation would've continued in a different manner with a different outcome. Who knows? It's hard to remember that this team was one win away from the World Series last year.

It's the elephant in the living room: Panasonic's 150-inch plasma has all but stolen the show here at CES 2008. When people ask you "What's the coolest thing you've seen at the show so far?" they invariably follow that up with "Except for the 150-inch TV."

And sure enough, the thing is a marvel to behold. It's so big, it's hard to take it in, really. With a viewing area that measures 11 feet by 6 1/4 feet and 8.84 million pixels of resolution, the TV (which has no model number and no date for being commercialized) is regularly thronged by crowds of slack-jawed onlookers, unable to comprehend the thing.

It's so big that all the other flat-panel companies have simply removed signage that might indicate how big (er, small) their sets are in comparison. There are obviously some big sets here from Pioneer, LG, and Sharp, but exactly how big their biggest sets are remains a mystery. Next year I will have to bring a tape measure.

Still don't think it's big? After all, maybe that woman is incredibly short, right? Wrong. Here's a picture of it next to last-year's largest, the 103-inch plasma:

With the war on screen size all but lost for 2008, a more interesting one is shaping up onthickness, with vendors battling to seejust how thin they can make their displays. Virtually every vendor is offering a screen (LCD or plasma) less than 2 inches thick. LG's is 1.7 inches thick. Hitachi's plasma is 1.5 inches and its LCD is just 0.75 inch. Sharp also has a 0.8-inch-thick LCD (52 inches diagonally, too). But it's Pioneer's 0.35-inch plasma that takes the weight loss crown, even if it is a prototype.

Other TV trends continue apace: A big one is OLED, which both Sony and Samsung are moving forward impressively. Side by side, Samsung'stechnology demo of OLED vs. LCD is striking; the difference in color and brightness is astonishing. Meanwhile, Sony was demonstrating a 27-inch OLED set, too. (In related news, you'll finally be able to buy the 11-inch OLED here in the United States, for just $2,500.)

Also emerging: Wireless HD. While I'm not sold on the need for this technology, more and more products keep showing up with it. Will we replace HDMI cables with wireless connections? Your sense of tidiness is probably salivating over the prospect already.

Seventy percent of the stores slated for closure had opened after the start of 2006, the company said in a statement.

To put it another way, Starbucks is closing 19 percent of all U.S. company-operated stores that opened in the last two years, Chief Financial Officer Pete Bocian said during a conference call.

About 12,000 workers, or 7 percent of Starbucks' global work force, will be affected by the closings, which are expected to take place between late July and the middle of 2009, spokeswoman Valerie O'Neil said.

O'Neil said most employees will be moved to nearby stores, but she did not know exactly how many jobs will be lost. Starbucks estimated $8 million in severance costs.

In total, the company forecast up to $348 million in charges related to the closures, $200 million to be booked in the fiscal third quarter ended June 30. Starbucks reports third-quarter results at the end of July.

The 500 additional stores set to be closed had been on an internal watch list for some time. They were not profitable, not expected to be profitable in the foreseeable future, and the "vast majority" had been opened near an existing company-operated Starbucks, Bocian said.

Some analysts had wondered whether Starbucks' explosive growth in the U.S. would come back to haunt it as the market became saturated.

But before Tuesday, the company avoided acknowledging that saturation was an issue, and pinned weak financial results and adjustments to new store openings on the economy.

During the call, Bocian said that between 25 and 30 percent of a Starbucks shop's revenue is cannibalized when a new store opens nearby, and that the closures should help return some of that revenue to the remaining stores.

Bocian said there aren't a material number of stores left on the watch list, but that the company will hold remaining stores to the same standards.

Starbucks still plans to open new stores in fiscal 2009, but on Tuesday it cut that number in half to fewer than 200. The company did not adjust its plan to open fewer than 400 stores in 2010 and 2011.

"We believe we still have opportunities to open new locations with strong returns on capital," Bocian said.

During the conference call, the CFO echoed concerns about the economy expressed by Chief Executive Howard Schultz in May, when the company attributed a 28 percent drop in profit to less traffic from U.S. consumers who were feeling the pinch of higher food and gas prices.

At the end of March, there were 16,226 Starbucks stores around the world. The company operates 7,257 of those stores in the U.S. and 1,867 abroad; the remaining 7,102 locations are run by partners who license the Starbucks brand.

Shares of Seattle-based Starbucks jumped 78 cents, or 5 percent, to $16.40 in after-hours trading after losing 12 cents to close at $15.62.

Nous sommes ici sur la route 112 ouest, en direction de Magog, depuis Sherbrooke, et la bretelle que l'on voit permet de prendre l'A-10 est/A-55 nord, pour retourner vers Sherbrooke ou Drummondville. Au loin, on voit le viaduc sous lequel passe la route 112, à la suite duquel...

...on retrouve l'accès, via la bretelle, à gauche, à l'A-10 ouest/A-55 sud, vers Montréal, ou la frontière américaine. Par la suite, la route 112 est parallèle à l'autoroute, sur une distance d'environ 5 kilomètres.

On retrouve, ici, un viaduc, sous lequel on peut changer de direction.

Cette fois, nous sommes à la fin des voies de service. La bretelle, à droite, mène vers l'A-10 ouest/A-55 sud, alors que si l'on garde les voies de gauche, on se retrouvera sur le boulevard Bourque, en direction d'Omerville, et de Magog.

J'imagine bien le développement futur de l'A-15, vers le nord, entre Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts et Mont-Tremblant, fait de cette façon, car il faudra bien que cette autoroute se réalise un jour. D'ailleurs, plusieurs indices permettent de croire que cela va se produire, d'ici les prochaines années. D'abord, la route 117 fut reconstruite, ces dernières années, à la hauteur de Mont-Tremblant (Saint-Jovite), avec des échangeurs étagés, auxquels on a accolé des numéros qui sont tout simplement la suite de ceux des sorties de l'A-15. Ensuite, le même genre d'amélioration a été effectuée à Saint-Faustin--Lac-Carré, soit un échangeur étagé, avec numéro de sortie correspondant. Je crois que le reste de la distance ne sera qu'une question de temps, et bien sûr, de budget.

Maintenant, allons plus à l'ouest, sur l'A-10, pour voir l'avancement de quelques chantiers.

Nous sommes ici sur ce qui était la route 112, à l'ouest de Magog. On est à reconfigurer complètement l'échangeur de la route 112, qui correspond à la sortie 115 de l'A-10. D'ailleurs, ce viaduc, sur lequel circulaient les véhicules en direction ouest, va disparaître,...

...tout comme celui-ci, en direction est, que l'on voit au loin, et sur lequel passait une voiture, au moment de la prise de la photo. C'est que ces deux viaducs font partie des 135 structures à dalle épaisse, qui furent inspectés d'urgence par le MTQ, à l'automne de 2007. Comme on voulait refaire tout l'échangeur, on a donc décidé de les raser au sol, ce qui sera fait dans les prochaines semaines, à moins que ça ne le soit déjà, au moment où vous lisez ces lignes.

On voit ici le chemin temporaire, qui mène à la route 141, vers le mont Orford, et la bretelle, à droite, qui conduit vers l'A-10 ouest. Par contre, je n'ai aucune idée de la nouvelle configuration de l'échangeur. Je mets donc cette image à titre d'illustration seulement.

À une quinzaine de kilomètres plus à l'ouest, nous pouvons voir les travaux de la sortie 100, à la hauteur de Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, qui sera transformée, probablement à l'automne, en un échangeur complet. La sortie, en direction ouest, commence à prendre forme,...

...alors que l'entrée, en direction est, semble plus avancée, encore.

Bon, que me reste-t-il, parmi les choses à vous montrer? On commence à passer au travers, là. Il me reste l'A-55, entre Drummondville et Sherbrooke (oui, oui, l'ancienne A-51), et les travaux de l'A-15, entre Blainville et Saint-Jérôme. Mais ne craignez rien; je me mettrai à la chasse d'autres merdes du MTQ très bientôt!

Je voulais l'utiliser pour aller passer le week-end dans les Laurentides, mais une fois à Laval, sur l'A-15 nord, en plein bouchon de circulation, le moteur s'est mis à chauffer au-delà de la normale. De plus, je me suis retrouvé sans pédale d'embrayage, à cause d'une petite fuite dans le circuit d'embrayage, à moins que les 11 mois de remisage ont fait en sorte que de l'humidité se soit installée dans le liquide du circuit. J'ai donc dû rebrousser chemin, et mettre plusieurs heures pour ramener la bête à la maison, question de ne pas endommager le moteur.

J'ai remplacé le thermostat, hier (lundi), mais le problème est toujours présent. L'étape suivante sera donc le radiateur, puisque je n'ai détecté aucune fuite en provenance de la pompe à eau. Le fait qu'il s'agisse d'un deuxième véhicule, que je compte utiliser de façon occasionnelle seulement, me met beaucoup moins de pression que s'il s'agissait de mon seul véhicule. Aussi, mon unique frustration est que je suis arrivé dans le nord vers les 23h15, alors que je voulais arriver là-bas avant 19h00.

1 July 2008. UP College of Education celebrates 90 years. The celebration started with a Mass with Fr. Jboy SJ, chaplain, and a program. Present were Dr. Lorna I. Paredes, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, and the ever gracious Dean Dr. Vivien M. Talisayon. The students prepared the program and the awarding ceremonies. 

Work was unusually quiet for the last day of the month and the weather forecast was good, so I was out of the door by 6 pm and at the foot of Mizugaki by 7.

I knew the route so was not concerned about doing it in the dark, but it was still unsettling. Pairs of eyes, probably deer, reflected an eerie blue in the LED headlamp and the path was steep, up through massive boulders that make Mizugaki look so dramatic during the day.

Hopes of fine views of the Kofu basin by night were dashed by thick mist at the top, and the dog struggled to find her way down through the rocks on the descent. She preferred to take detours into the forest than make large, bone-jarring leaps from high boulders. But it caused me concern several times to turn around and find no dog behind me. I would call and call, and eventually spot two ghost-like eye reflections in the blackness, and she would make her circuitous way back to me.

I drove the short hop to the north side of Kinpu and rolled out the sleeping bag in the car. The stars were now out, promising a good day ahead. We were away by 3.30, walking along a forest trail by the river. I could see the morning dew falling through the beam of the headlamp, and feel the coolness of the rushing riverwater.

Having started early, I was not in a hurry and had time to enjoy the richness of this route and the rewarding views. 

We returned to the car exactly three hours later, and the first hiker was just about to set off. We had already bagged the best part of the day.

29 June 2008. Fr. Jboy Gonzales SJ, Chaplain celebrated the Holy Spirit Mass of the University of the Philippines. Christ's Youth in Action (CYA) and Canto Cinco Music Ministry (C5) and Musica Chiesa were the musicians. The Student Campus Ministry Group (SCMG) were the readers and servers. The UP Jesuit Team and the Vocation Promotions group helped also at mass.
