Excellent Product

This bluetooth device is an excellent purchase. The device is extremely lightweight and comfortable to wear.

The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star rating was because it didn't work exactly as I had expected. We had a large group going to Las Vegas and we were going to be split up most of the day but needed to get together at different points throughout the day so we needed to contact each other via our cell phones. I wanted a device that I could wear comfortably in my ear all day so I could hear if someone tried to call me. For this reason, the device worked great!! It was very easy to hear when someone was calling me even in the noisiest of casinos. The only problem was the noise cancelling didn't work so well even if there was only a little background noise. I was able to hear when someone called but I would have to turn off the device and answer the phone so that the person on the other line could hear me.

This device works excellent when you are driving in a car, sitting in your office, or any place where your noise level is a little more adjustable. I absolutely love being able to just flip the boom to turn off the device. There's no fumbling for an on/off button.

HCM CITY — City officials have agreed that the urban campaign to encourage citizens to ensure traffic safety, keep their city clean and adopt a healthy lifestyle will be continued in 2009.


They also agreed that the city administration’s efforts since early this year to promote a higher civic sense and responsibility among the citizenry had achieved encouraging results.


A meeting held last Saturday to review the urban civilisation drive heard that the huge influx of immigrants into the city was one of the major challenges facing efforts to provide facilties for residents to raise their quality of life.


Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, vice chairwoman of HCM City’s People’s Committee, said there was some improvement in many areas like traffic safety and environmental protection.Traffic accidents have reduced dramatically to 883 cases, a reduction of 20 per cent against same period last year. The city has an additional 14 streets where street vendors are banned, raising the total to 67.


District officials attending the meeting compared notes on their efforts to mobilize citizens to work towards improving their living environments. They also discussed ways to penalize residents for breaking regulations and not fulfilling their civic responsibilties.


The People’s Committee of District 10 discussed an initiative to set up a group to photograph various violations and city eyesores to be displayed in public. Ways to publicise guidelines on civic rights and responsibilities were also discussed.


Ha pointed out that there were many self-management models,which could be used to develop the citizens’ role in improving lifestyles and living standards.


Le Minh Tri, head of District 1 People’s Committee, said the sharp increase of immigrants in recent years was the biggest hurdle in their campaign.


In the first nine months of this year, the city has installed 39 public restrooms, raising the total to 85.


An additional 85 are needed, especially in urban districts where there is a high demand for such utilites, the meeting heard.


Head of the city’s People’s Council, Pham Phuong Thao, estimated that the situation had improved over the last nine months with increased public awareness of the need for environmental protection and a healthy lifestyle, especially in outlying districts. —

Item arrived DOA. Would not work at all in new Nikon D60, and only very slowly in WinXP via card reader, then in collapsed all together. Seller said they'd been having issues with these KingMax cards and that manufacturer said they had resolved issues -- apparently not. Won't buy KingMax again. I've been using a Transcend 2GB 150X card for a year in an 8MP Canon without issue for thousands of pics and video.

After successful run, Marlies have high hopes

(CP) -- A trip to the conference final last year merely raised the Toronto Marlies' expectations for this season.

The Marlies, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, won their division for the first time last year with a 50-21-3-6 record and captured their first two playoff rounds. They eventually lost in the Western Conference final to the Chicago Wolves, the eventual Calder Cup champions.

Coming into this season, they want more.

"We didn't get to where we wanted last season," said coach Greg Gilbert, back for his third season behind the Marlies bench. "We wanted to win the championship and we fell short of that goal. But in the process, a lot of our young players were exposed to high-level, high-tempo hockey in the playoffs.

"With that experience, we expect to go further this year."

Highly touted goalie Justin Pogge didn't see a lot of action during the Marlies' playoff run, but he figures to play a much bigger role this season.

The 22-year-old, who was drafted 90th overall in 2004 and is the Leafs' best netminding prospect, played only the final two of 20 playoff games (one win, one loss) as he backed up veteran Scott Clemmensen.

Clemmensen signed with the New Jersey Devils organization in the summer, elevating Pogge to starting status for the first time in his pro career.

"Right now he's going to be the No. 1 dog and he's got that responsibility," said Gilbert, who also has 26-year-old journeyman Adam Munro and rookie pro James Reimer vying for crease time. "We expect Pogge to get in there and put the team on his shoulders."

And even if Pogge has some off nights, the Marlies, who open the season at home Friday against the Binghamton Senators, think they have enough scoring punch and veteran presence to stay in most games.

"This year, we have a good mix with leadership and some good young players who we have to get into the lineup and develop," Gilbert said.

Up front, the Marlies' forward corps features several players who have been together for a few years, including captain Ben Ondrus, franchise scoring leader Kris Newbury, veteran Bates Battaglia and sniper Jeremy Williams.

Speedy Robbie Earl and fan favorite Alex Foster are also back, joined by center Boyd Devereaux and big winger Mark Bell, both of whom have ample NHL experience but were waived by the Leafs after training camp.

Center Darryl Boyce, who missed the second half of last season when he was hurt in his first game up with the Leafs, and right winger Brent Aubin return for their sophomore seasons.

"With the talent and the experience we have, we should be a good team," Earl said. "We're definitely a contender in the sense we have a lot of talent, but it's how we jell as a team. The nucleus of last year's team is back, so that's obviously a positive."

There are also a few new faces among the forwards.

Tim Stapleton, 25, a five-foot-nine center from La Grange, Ill., placed second in Finnish Elite League scoring with 62 points in 55 games for Jokerit.

"He's a smart little centre with good speed," Gilbert said, "and he's great on the power play."

Andre Deveaux, a six-foot-four, 217-pound forward, joins Toronto after winning a title with Chicago last season, while Max Taylor makes the jump from the ECHL and Stefano Giliati begins his first full pro season out of the QMJHL. Taylor and Giliati got into a few games with the Marlies last season, as did Kyle Rogers, who skated in 10 AHL playoff contests after finishing up at Niagara University (NCAA).

Toronto's biggest changes come on the blue line. Mainstay Jaime Sifers is back, joined by second-year Phil Oreskovic and 25-year-old Staffan Kronwall, who has bounced up and down between the Leafs and Marlies the past few years.

He's also suffered his share of injuries. A six-foot-four, 210-pounder with good mobility and offensive skills, Kronwall has missed more than 100 NHL and AHL games combined since arriving in Toronto in 2005.

The Marlies also added depth by signing three veteran defensemen: Josef Boumedienne, Andy Schneider and Richard Petiot.

Gilbert indicated he planned to work in the younger players as much as possible, but he's looking to the veteran Marlies to lead the way.

"Winning breeds winning," Gilbert said. "And obviously, those guys (returning Marlies) were a big part of our club last year. Unfortunately for them, they weren't able to stick with the Leafs right now.

"But selfishly, from the Marlies' standpoint, it's nice to have them back."

  • Many students discuss how the use of IT tools such as calculators, word processors and PDAs, compromise one's skills in mental calculation, handwriting, memory, etc.  Some discuss the use of online means to communicate reduces social skills, even to the extent that people may prefer meeting online to face-to-face.  Another noteworthy example is the increased use of powerful search tools reduces the need to organize, file and even taking notes.
  • Does it really matter if a skill is lost, or replaced, as one masters and uses a new tool?  For instance, mastering a word processor for writing is a new skill.  Handwriting skill may degenerate but it may not matter if handwriting is seldom needed.  Therefore, on one hand, it would not matter as long as the job gets done and the tool in question is always available.   On the other hand, it would matter if the old skill is necessary sufficiently often, for instance, when the tool in question is not available sufficiently often.
  • Another important cause for concern is when the old skill being compromised is related to more basic and generic abilities, which may be affected due to reduced usage.  An example may be the ability to "size things up", which relates to one's numeracy, which in turn relates to one's ability to do mental calculations.  Another good example is the ability to organize thoughts for speaking, which relates to one's ability to compose "linearly".  The use of word processor enables one to write more "conveniently" in a non-linear manner, without the need to "linearize" our thoughts.

Towards the end of lecture, I briefed the class on the reading project.  After lecture, I was surprised as about half of the class were ready to reserve their choice of readings.  As of now, nine of the fifteen classics and two of the four fiction pairs are already taken.  Check the reading list for what's still available.  Reserve your choice early if you haven't yet done so.

Saskatoon-based Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc., or PotashCorp, which calls itself the world's largest fertilizer company, led the list of losers. It fell $35.50, or 26 per cent, to $101.

Calgary-based Agrium Inc. was down $13.47, or 23 per cent, at $45.01.

Although both companies reported record second-quarter profits this summer, traders dumped the stocks after a Merrill Lynch analyst cut his rating on the sector from "buy" to "underperform," citing weakening product prices and concern about future earnings.

This amounted to a sell recommendation. Under a rating system adopted in the spring, Merrill rates stocks "buy," "neutral" or "underperform."

PotashCorp said the ensuing sell-off was undeserved.

"In the tough financial market conditions that we're seeing right now, good companies, good businesses can certainly get caught up in overreaction," the company's public relations manager, Rhonda Speiss, told CBC News.

Toronto's S&P/TSX composite index dropped through the 11,000 level to close at 10,900.54, its lowest level in more than two years.

The loss was 813.97 points, or nearly seven per cent — not far from Monday's record one-day point drop of 840.93 but well short of the record percentage drop, 11.32 per cent, set on Black Monday, Oct. 19, 1987.

New York's Dow Jones industrial average finished at 10,482.85, down 348.22 points or 3.2 per cent.

General Electric Co., which lined up a cash transfusion from billionaire investor Warren Buffet on Thursday, was still losing ground on the market.

GE's stock was down $2.35 US, or 9.6 per cent, at $22.15 US, flirting with a 52-week low.

The price of a barrel of oil was headed lower, too. Light sweet crude for November delivery was down $4.64 US to $93.89 US a barrel in New York trading.

In Toronto, all major stock groups were down, with the materials group — including PotashCorp and Agrium — leading the way.

The fertilizer stocks took their lumps after Don Carson, Merrill's chemicals and commodities analyst, sent a note to clients Thursday morning.

He said fertilizer prices are no longer going through the roof, partly because farmers are getting lower prices for corn crops they grow with it. This is unsettling news for the industry, he said.

"With phosphate prices falling, nitrogen prices peaking and potash prices rising less than expected, there is considerable uncertainty surrounding the near-term earnings outlook," he said.

Richard Downey, Agrium's senior director of investor relations, said corn prices are down from a spring peak of $8 US a bushel but still more than double the average of the past five year, and fertilizer prices remain far higher than a year ago.

"Our business fundamentals are pretty much as strong as they've ever been," he told CBC News, "and there is overreaction going on for the whole fertilizer space"

He expressed shock at the rating cut.

PotashCorp was unhappy with share price 60% higher

The Saskatoon company has potash mines at six places in Saskatchewan — some now shut down by a strike — and at Sussex, N.B., where it is expanding an operation that already employs 339 people.

When the strike began in August, it was feared that potash fertilizer prices would skyrocket, but there is no sign of that yet.

The company's stock has traded between $246 and $94 in the past 52 weeks.

"We believe our shares are significantly undervalued versus our long-term potential," he said in a statement at the time. "By buying back low-priced shares, we will strengthen our company for the future and reward our long term shareholders."

Speiss, the public relations manager, said Thursday the firm has "a long-term view of our business, and we believe that, despite today's market reaction, the fertilizer industry is very well positioned to go forward."

Agrium, which has operations from Alberta to Argentina, announced its own buyback program only this week.

"We believe the current price of our shares does not reflect Agrium’s achievements nor our strong future prospects," CEO Mike Wilson said in a statement issued Wednesday, when the stock was trading for as much as $60.

Among the winners were Research in Motion, up six per cent in New York trading; Apple, up almost seven per cent; and Microsoft, up nearly eight per cent.

Like many equity issues, technology stocks have been on an up-and-down ride for the past week as world markets grapple with September's financial shakeout on Wall Street.

On Monday, Canadian and U.S. stock markets plunged by record single-day amounts after the U.S. Congress said no to a controversial $700-billion US bailout package.

Apple, whose stock was downgraded by two analysts Monday, closed down 17.9 per cent that day. Google ended the day down 11.6 per cent and Microsoft was off 8.7 per cent.

Tuesday's performance helped RIM stop its share value slide. Since the close of trading last Thursday, the Waterloo, Ont.-based BlackBerry maker has seen its share price slip about 30 per cent. It closed Tuesday at $71.71 in Toronto and $68.30 US on the Nasdaq.

Besides general market malaise, RIM has also been hurt by a recent earnings disappointment.

Monday's plunges came amidst what some analysts are calling the "thumbs on Wall Street" effect.

Recent chaos in the financial system is expected to further erode consumer confidence and their spending for electronic gadgets such as RIM's thumb-operated BlackBerry, say analysts.

While some market watchers say RIM's base of users in the business world will soften the blow, others say the effect of layoffs among BlackBerry-addicted Wall Street employees can't be ignored.
