Years ago when I first got on computers, it was standard practice to use your three initials. Mine are E.C.W. But I already touch-typed, and typing ecw is quite uncomfortable, so I wanted to find something else. The "C." is Charles, which in some languages would be a K., so that was a thought. And my girlfriend at the time was Katrine, and I wanted to interest her in computers, so got the idea to put her in the middle: thus ekw.

Some time later I noticed that there was a backgammon correlation. What you say when your opponent rolls an "anti-joker," or roll that turns a winning or at least good position into a lost one: "Eek! I double you!" Okay, it's stretchy.

Much later in a flash I thought of ekwity, as in equity, in other words worth or value. The word is used a lot in backgammon ("race equity," "shot equity," "cube equity"), where in poker you see/hear the more-or-less equivalent "expected value" or, if you're just so cool and/or full of yourself (poker), "EV".  Hey, I'm cool! Maybe my next login ID should be EVity. Or maybe, given the way I play (for example, I was just reraised and put the guy all-in with AcQc, which he snap-called with AA and won), I should be using LEvity, for Lost Expected Value-ity.

Actually I already moved along. I've spent a lot of time in Paris (oh *that* is a story or 20), so have the French keyboard ready at a <ctrl><shift>, and hit that by mistake once when joining some site. Out came "ekzity" -- voila!!

Initially we were both drunk... playing backgammon telling everybody we're actually filming for "The bear & beaver show"... Then when he wasn't lookin... I "URSU"ed his sneakers... What's funny is everybody kept asking about what's written there and why... so as long as it tells a story... it good enough for my friend's footwear...

I uploaded the original version of this image a while ago.  I colored and re-sized the image from a black and white illustration in a vintage child's book.  If you would like to see the original image, you can go to my Sue Needs... post.   I colored the image, printed out a few sizes of the colored image (using my Best quality printer option), and then put them aside.  I didn't think about it at the time, but this week I realized I could use all 3 images in slightly different ways to alter some game pieces.

I used my first image on a Rummikub® pendant.  I cut off much of the light colored area above the leaves and below the grass.  Since my Rummikub® is white I didn't think I really needed that part.  I first put down a layer of handmade paper on the Rummikub®.  It doesn't show up much, but I like the way the paper holds the decoupage glue for the glitter. 

I used a light colored suede leather strap and a Swarovski crystal toggle clasp.  I liked the mix of texture.  It was like mixing the ethereal with the earthy, the feminine with the masculine.  I thought it captured the essence of what I think of when I think of fairies, heavenly creatures that are tied to the nature on earth.

I wanted to use the entire image even though it was larger than the Rummikub®.  I decided to give the Rummikub® a hug.  You can see where I wrapped the image over on the sides. 

I had a printed a large image that fit nicely over two miniature domioes.  I decided to split the image in two pieces for a pair of altered domino earrings.   I love how they make a set even though the images are not the same.

Since it was the first time I had found orphaned backgammon game pieces at an estate sale, I really wanted to try my hand at altering them.  It's difficult to fit a square image inside a round base without cutting out important pieces of the image.  I covered the backgammon piece with handmade paper.  I used a small version of my image.  I added glitter to the parts around my image.  I decided to make the altered backgammon piece into a zipper pull by adding a large lobster clasp.  By the way the green glass bead in the pull and the necklace are vintage 70's glass beads.

Instead of throwing away the images that just weren't working for me, I made 3 different altered game piece jewelry pieces.  Since I have so many game pieces figuring out how to use all three images wasn't much of a stretch.  I'm already thinking how to challenge myself next time.

 Now we have yet another division, 2D! :D There still seem to be a glitch though with some players being grey in the lower divisions.

Usted y su rival. 15 fichas cada uno. Dos dados para compartir.

Para ver quien sale, tiran un dado cada uno. Si gana ( y así será) suma su dado y el de su contrincante y avanza. Un turno por vez.

El objetivo es hacer el camino con las fichas, llamados hombres, desde su posición de partida hasta la casa, y luego hacia fuera del tablero. Sus hombres (y los de su contrincante también!) se mueven de arriba abajo, de derecha a izquierda, al contrario que las agujas del reloj.

Cada dado se cuenta por separado a la hora de mover sus hombres, por lo que en cada turno podrá mover uno (dados sumados)o dos (dados separados) de las fichas, así que sea responsable de la decisión que cada turno le impone. Si acaso los dados le salen repetidos (cosa que suele pasar, sobre todo cuando atrajo la suerte), mueve cuatro veces el valor indicado. Se avanza casilla a casilla, triángulo a triángulo, pica a pica.
En el camino hasta la salida (es decir, hasta su libertad), puede comer las fichas de su oponente, de la manera más simple: cayendo en una pica ocupada por uno solo de los hombres rivales. Si esto pasa, manda a su amigo a la barra del centro. Esa ficha deberá reingresar al juego por la primer casilla que es la puerta de ingreso. Hasta que esto no suceda (y pueda que tarde en suceder), él no podrá mover ninguna de sus fichas. Si en cambio, la pica esta ocupada por dos o más de los hombres de su rival, usted no podrá caer en esa casilla.
Estas típicas desventuras del destino de la partida provocan reacciones en el perjudicado que manifiestan su estado anímico. Los hay agresivos, silenciosos ofuscados, indiferentes deprimidos. Aunque a veces sucede y el contrario disfruta su propia caída, entonces el juego se ilumina.
Cuando todas sus fichas hallan llegado hasta su casa, deberá iniciar el final del juego. Los 15 hombres deberán abandonar el tablero, uno por uno, para continuar sus existencias en las otras dimensiones donde viven las fichas de los juegos. Si lo logra antes que su rival ganará el encuentro. Si en cambio su oponente logra sacar todas sus fichas antes que usted, usted perderá y será blanco de todas las burlas por parte de aquellos que lo han visto perder, hasta el fin de los tiempos... o hasta el inicio de una nueva partida.

Para salir es necesario sacar el número justo en el dado.

The Cup will be played Sunday the 20^th July, 7 pm swedish time and the whole cup will be played the same night.

We are going to have teams with 2 players in each, without any reserve players because it cannot be hard to get two players together and get the play flow on without problems?

We are taking on 8 teams which means we will play on with the quarter finals at once.

Both teams sends in their team line up at the same time so there will not be a home - and a away team.

The player you will face, is the player you will meet in both backgammon and couronne.

We will play the backgammon games first in 5 point games. Those games the both players in the team will play at the same time right from start.

When we have come to the couronne games of 9 sets we will play one at a time in the team so we can watch eachothers games.

It is the won games that counts, if its a tie of won games we will go after won sets in both backgammon and couronne.

If its still a tie we will have a sudden death game were the capten decides which player will play, and then play by 3 points in backgammon and 5 set in couronne.

Wolfman will invite you into tours.

We have the same rule as before, you have 10 minutes to start a game otherwise the opponent wins the game with walkover.

The team-capten in every team will report back to marru of every result in the games and she will update the blog continuosly so you can see every result in the games.

You can add her as friend temporary if you dont have her on your list.
We have no such rule about players have played max divison in every games....
