Eben, nach meinem Communication Exam (ich sehe es schon komme, am Ende habe ich 89.5 Punkte und 90 brauche ich fuer ein B+), haben wir noch den Wagen zu Southern Glas gebracht (Wahlspruch: The price from the South and the quality from the South). Dort wird noch die Frontscheibe repariert, die mir auf dem Weg nach Charleston kaputt gegangen ist:

“I’m sorry, it’s just that you were about to tear it! Look, do me a favor and go around to the passenger side so you can stick your hand behind that metal scissor joint next to the window. That way, when it starts going up again…”

“Hey! I don’t think you’re allowed to just start walking along the highway like that! C’mon, get back in the car, okay? I was only kiddin’ about the hand thing. Besides, look, the top’s almost up! And if I shove this towel in the space between the windshield and the roof, we’ll barely get any water in here at all! C’mon, I promise you can hardly smell the exhaust fumes coming through the hole in the firewall anymore! …God damnit.”

It was another great night at the Pony last night, with plenty of wicked cars (and owners) braving what felt like the coldest day of the summer so far.  Still, the cars rolled in and the smiles went around, as Paul Williamson graciously hosted the evening.  Even more important, he gave away prizes at the end of the night!

Boss Hog would have been proud.  This 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was parked right up front for everyone to see.  This Dukes Of Hazard twin held enough steel to protect the DJ booth in the event of an explosion.

One car I haven't seen around before is this all-white 1953 Chevy coupe.  The rockabilly bow-tie is showing its age, but it sure is aging gracefully.  The body is straight, the chrome is mostly there, and there's little hints of pinstriping on the hood, trunk, and behind the rear windows.  I didn't have the nerve to ask if the car was done (I hear it's a touchy question with this crowd), but it'll be exciting to see what, if anything, gets added next!

And for something completely different, five Datsuns rolled in to yesterday's cruise night.  No, not Nissans; real, actual, from-back-in-the-day Datsuns.  Even more impressive was that two of them were station wagons.

Most of them had been worked on, either with modded original engines, or newer Nissan engines dropped in.  This orange station wagon looks rough now, but it's just the start.  Apparently it was just towed up from the states where the little car was picked up for a measly $170.  Like Paul Williamson said, "With the price of gas, these Datsuns might be the future of cruise nights."

When you think of a car that was built exclusively for Canada, you'd think of something with all-wheel drive and huge snow tires.  Oddly enough, this 1966 Monaco is what Dodge actually saved for us Canucks.  There were just over 500 built, and rumor has it that less than 50 are still on the road today.  This rare gem has the original 380 small block and automatic tranny, with the only modifications being wheels and small interior touches.

A woman knows the power of a fragrance. A simple trace of a scent can evoke a wonderful memory. A favorite perfume is more than essential oils and aromatic compounds. It is a reflection of a woman’s personality, her mood and her style. In short, it is an expression of her beauty. It’s no wonder then that finding the perfect perfume for any occasion is as essential as the oils that go into it.

But with the number of fragrances available today, how do you find just the right one? We’ve broken down the basics to give you a general understanding of perfumery and help you make sense of it all.

Fragrances contain a wide variety of ingredients which vary not only in how they smell, but also in their “staying power” on the skin. Perfumers identify three parts of a fragrance called notes.

• The top note is the first impression of the fragrance. It is the initial impact of the scent on the sense of smell.
• The middle note is the heart of the fragrance which unfolds and develops a few minutes after the perfume
  is applied to the skin.
• The bottom note is the final impression of the fragrance and can last several hours after the fragrance
  is applied.

To help identify their aromas and attributes, fragrances are classified by type or family. Fragrance families cover a wide spectrum of scents such as Floral, Oriental and Chypre (pronounced she-pra).

  • The Floral family includes a diverse bouquet of aromas that range from a light Floral Sheer to a
    sweet Floral Fruity and a spicy Floral.

The two truck-only divisions, GMC and HUMMER, look the most vulnerable right now. GMC is old, and HUMMER, for all its faults, is the most well-defined and distinctive brand (it's also kind of a copy of Jeep, and the most fuel-guzzling division.) It seemed unthinkable to many to kill a 100+ year old brand, but that's exactly what was done with Oldsmobile, even after an aggressive but desperate revamping of the company and its model line. Sense won out over nostalgia.

Although I can say which divisions I see as expendable from personal preference (Everything except Chevy, Caddy and Saturn,) I'd be curious to learn what each division actually costs to run, and which division's axeing would save the General the most pathetically-devalued bucks.

There's also something to be said about cannibalism. Starbucks is in trouble because they expanded so quickly their main competitor at any given cafe is themselves, in the form of the other Starbucks down the street. Well, look at a Chevy dealership. Chances are not far away is a Pontiac/Buick/GMC Dealer, or a Saturn dealer, and all these brands are looking for the same customers, whatever their mission statements may be. The result is, many customers are unimpressed by this variety, and decide to go with a simpler, more solid choice: Toyota, Honda, Nissan, VW, etc.

Toyota doesn't really have to worry about Lexus stealing sales of family sedans, because Lexus is a dedicated luxury marque. Why does Saturn have to be the "import-fighting" brand or Pontiac the "performance" brand or GMC the "intermediate premium / professional-grade truck" brand? Honda, Toyota, and Nissan encapsulate all of those qualities within just two or three divisions that with the exception of Scion, do not cross paths with the parent company.

Chevy should be able to fight imports, offer performance vehicles and premium luxury rigs in one showroom. And I have no doubt that it would do a lot more business without all the competition from other GM brands stealing the scraps of costumers who haven't already gone imported.

Not that dumping brands is a guaranteed solution, but it's a start towards focus. As much as it may hurt the loyalists of all those brands, their vapid redundancy could lead to the destruction of GM itself, and then they'll have to deal with Tata Motors of India owning the largest corporation in the world that probably shouldn't be; GM.

Sejam sinceros: "Quem nunca estacionou o carro e ficou preso para fora?". Não porque vocês esqueceram a chave dentro do carro, mas porque há carros (ou paredes, ou colunas, etc.) muito próximos de ambas as portas do veículo (que impossibilitam a abertura das mesmas). Tudo bem, não sou o esteriótipo de homem saudável e magro (rs). Então, obviamente, isso ocorre mais freqüentemente comigo. E não venham me dizer que não cresce uma revolta interna nestas horas. Pois, tenho certeza que, vocês também já insultaram alguém quando isso aconteceu.

Mas existem opções para se contornar este problema. Como? Por exemplo, vocês podem comprar uma Lamborghini. Vocês não têm dinheiro para comprar uma? Odeio gente pobre, viu (rs). Brincadeira. Uma opção, mais barata, é instalar as portas da Lamborghini (também conhecidas como Lambo Doors) em seu carro.

Vocês não sabem como é a porta de uma Lamborghini? Em que mundo vocês viveram até hoje? Bom, segue uma breve apresentação das Lambo Doors:

Gostaram? Eu, sinceramente, acho que existe uma pequena desvatagens nesta opção: "E se o teto do estacionamento for baixo? Como você vai fazer para sair?". Mesmo porque, aqui no Brasil, não existe só este pequeno impecílio. Arranjar uma vaga para estacionar na rua já é uma verdadeira epopéia, não é mesmo? Agora imaginem se adicionarmos um pequeno detalhe para se achar vagas: "A vaga não pode ser embaixo de árvores baixas!".

Então não existem opções para sair e entrar no carros sem esforços? Claro que existe. Vejam o vídeo abaixo:

O Disappearing Car Door é um produto da Jatech LLC. Sendo que, a Ford e a GM, foram as principais responsáveis pela divulgação do produto. Elas foram as primeiras empresas (automotivas) a perceberem o brilhantismo da invenção, e usaram o Disappearing Car Door em seus protótipos Explorer e Cadillac (respectivamente).

Infelzimente, não encontrei nenhuma informação sobre o Disappearing Car Door no Brasil. Mas, quem sabe um dia, né (rs)? Além do mais, a esperança é a última que morre.

Другое дело, что англичане как-то не особенно торопятся отдавать свои кровные за американские седаны. Да, имидж марки довольно крут, но, с другой стороны, за те же деньги можно купить очень приличный европейский автомобиль, тот же BMW или Audi. По статистике ACEA, все вместе взятые американские автомобили General Motors (т.е. не только Cadillac) продаются, в среднем, в количестве около 400 машин в месяц. Это по всему Евросоюзу! Думаю, что только в Москве продажи Cadillac идут намного лучшим образом, особенно если верить телесериалам.

На сегодняшний момент, Cadillac продает в Британии четыре модели:

• BLS (от £21495), в том числе и в варианте "универсал", за те же деньги.
• STS (от £33995)
• SRX (от £28100)
• Escalade (от £47100)

А в следующем году, компания обещает завезти в наши края CTS Coupe, о котором и пойдет речь.
