Commander in Chief started off on a high note, and was the No. 1 rated TV show on Tuesday nights until it got knocked from the top spot by American Idol, according to the Wiki. With all my Sag, I can laugh at bawdy T-shirts, but I wonder whether there aren't some racier pics or videos of the former beauty pageant contestant floating around since her natal Neptune (film) in Scorpio (sex) squares her Aquarius (Internet, collective) stellium. Still, French First Lady Carla Bruni has that issue and it hasn't hurt her popularity.

Sarah Palin has brains, beauty, and brawn (she was nicknamed "Sarah Barracuda" for her aggressive basketball moves in high school), and she's not afraid to use all three to get what she wants. What's wrong with that?

I don't share her views that abortion shouldn't be permitted even in cases of rape and incest and that creationism should be taught in public school but not sex education. In my view, all of these beliefs surrender feminine power to a patriarchal father figure, which is consistent with Palin's Jupiter in Aries.

This is the same aspect, incidentally, that prompted Palin to declare that U.S. troops are in Iraq on a "task that is from God." Funny, that's the rationale that Islamic terrorists use for their jihad against the U.S. Isn't it great that God is on everyone's side?

Whatever surfaces about Palin's past, we must keep in mind that her Sun/Mars/Saturn triple conjunction in Aquarius falls on the U.S. Moon. She's going to force us to examine our stereotypes about the role of women and highlight the contradictory beliefs about female sexuality held by conservatives and liberals alike.

What we saw last night in Palin's speech emphasizing small-town roots and family values is the presence of her North Node at 10 degrees of Cancer on the U.S. Sun. Her message resonated with the American people.

Like the audience at the feel-good film Juno a couple of years ago, we want everything to turn out O.K. for Bristol Palin, Sarah's 17-year-old daughter who is five months pregnant. Let's hope Bristol gets a happy ending the way the teenage mom did in Juno.

As Maureen Dowd and others have noted, Sarah Palin is a modern-day Cinderella -- a hockey mom active in the PTA who ends up as the GOP's vice-presidential candidate. What's not to love? I can hear my husband in the background doing his imitation of Bill Murray in Caddy Shack: "It's a Cinderella story..."

As an astrologer and a follower of Carl Jung, I revel in mythology, symbolism, and Hollywood plots. Life does imitate art and vice versa. That's why Frank Rich's pedigree as a theater critic makes him such an insightful political columnist for The New York Times.

But we must not get so wrapped up in the story line that we lose sight of the 299 million extras in this larger-than-life drama -- the man struggling to find work after his factory job got outsourced to China, the seniors forced to choose between paying for expensive medications or heating the house this winter, and the single mom who is raiding the piggybank to buy school supplies for her son.

We can't afford to leave them on the cutting room floor.

Il manager dichiara che per tutti i dischi in classifica le cifre riguardano gli esemplari consegnati dalle case ai negozi, non quelli effettivamente acquistati alla cassa dai clienti, mentre sono queste vendite effettive ad essere prese in conto dalla Snep, il sindacato nazionale delle case discografiche, che ha fornito la cifra ben più modesta. La settimana scorsa il disco della «premiere dame de France» ha venduto 5.757 copie e si è classificato al nono posto in classifica. Patrick Zelnick spiega che «non è stata una buona data» quella di commercializzare il cd di Carla Bruni l'11 luglio scorso ed aggiunge che «la vera promozione inizierà alla 'rentreè», al ritorno dei francesi dalle ferie.

An interesting article from the UK Telegraph profiles Palin's rise to the national spotlight. Europeans seem to have a bit of a Carla Bruni complex with Gov. Palin.

The Boston Herald profiled Rudy Giuliani's support for the Republican VP choice in his emotional speech delievered before Gov. Palin took the stage.

While most of the action was occurring on the delegate floor, 'radio row' was probably a close second. This is the area where radio stations from all over the world set up. It is located in the main RiverCenter lobby. I had a John Voight sighting, and supposedly Robert Downy Jr. was here as well; though, nobody seemed to know where he was. 

As a formality, each state got to cast their votes (after a lengthly explination on why their state was the best in the Union) for McCain, this lasting later into the night than ANY AP reporter wanted. The mood in the AP workspace was electric after the Giuliani and Palin speeches; then the time of day set in. Most of these reporters, especially photographers, have been working very taxing hours. This is only getting worse leading into Thursday.

McCain is expected to speak tonight; the content of his speech is probably very much like that of previous speakers. The Republican party has used the convention to go on the offensive on behalf of Palin, who has remained very quiet this last week despite the crushing media attention about her pregnant daughter.

I will add to this as I continue to read through my notes. I will also start linking up major news stories--it will be interesting to analyze just how well Palin came across in the eyes of the media.

 La ex-Top Model, actriz y mejor cantante y Primera Dama de Francia ya tiene su lugar en la historia... ha demostrado que para ser "la mujer del presidente, príncipe, rey o lo que sea" no se tiene por qué abandonar la carrera (los tiempos de Grace Kelly ya pasaron). Este mes, su nuevo CD es Nro.1 en Francia y los críticos lo han elogiado. Bruni sigue siendo... "la cantante".

Cuando vi el primer trailer de Wall*E jamás imaginé que este robotcito iba a protagonizar mi película favorita del año. Por todos lados la nueva película de Disney-Pixar destila inteligencia: un guión super original, personajes entrañables, un poderoso contenido transversal, y toma de riesgo de principio a fin... eso es algo que siempre sabré agradecer.

El Rey del Reggaetón hizo lo propio en el mercado latino. Mientras su primera película como productor y protagonista -"Talento de Barrio"- se convirtió en el fime más visto de la historia boricua, su banda sonora y tema central -"Pose"-hacían lo propio en venta de álbumes y sonido en las radios.

Imagine my delight when John F. Kennedy Jr came out with George back in 1995. As a political science undergrad with a serious Vogue addiction, I instantly rushed out to purchase my copy. The cover featured Cindy Crawford dressed as George Washington. The magazine focused on news, politics, lifestyle, fashion and celebrity, and "Not politics as usual" was its tag line. If you looked closely, a tiny picture of George Washington as he appears on the US quarter could be found on every cover (a salute to Playboy perhaps?) The magazine started strong, mostly due to its rather dishy founder I'm sure, but unfortunately with Kennedy's death and a lack of advertising sales, the magazine ended its run in 2001. 

Vanity Fair is still going strong and this month's issue features an interview with ex-supermodel, singer and current First Lady of France--Carla Bruni. It's an interesting article, mostly because Bruni and Sarkozy are portrayed as narcissistic barracudas who seem perfectly suited. But just how long will this love affair last?  If it lasts longer than George I'll eat my shoes.

This year’s September issue tips the scales at 798 pages. The biggest yet. (which begs the question of why they didn’t add two more pages and hit the 800 page mark.)

Nonetheless I spend about two hours carefully thumbing through each glossy ad, article and paper perfume sample.

I love it!

I also noticed a trend for this year. Over the years, actresses have taken over the world and now the pendulum is swinging back in favor of model centered ads.

Most importantly this year’s issue highlights the return of the 90’s supermodels. It was almost like time stopped: Linda Evangelista, Shalom Harlow, Christy Turlington, Amber Valletta, Claudia Schieffer, Kate Moss, Heidi Klum, Naomi Campbell…the only two noticeably absent were Cindy Crawford and the French President’s new wife. (Must have very important first lady duties whatever they are.)

I also see fashion as art. And the accompanying pictorials are just an extension of that realm.

I have thought many times of being a fashion photographer…creating something.
