[caption id="attachment_432" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Brits vs. Black Knights. Oh, and I love this drawing style."][/caption]

So I'm slow. In catching up with the more popular (not necessarily better) anime series, that is. I know. Which is why, being a slacker with no grasp of time management, I have managed to marathon the first season in, oh, three days at most? And I started on R2 today, and I'm at around episode 18. I tell you, my EYAs are shot to hell. But firstly, my homework. As for my foot drill test, I'm leaving it to luck and my ability. (On second thoughts, this applies to most of everything I do.)

But that's besides the point. Dear Lulu has given me so much entertainment these past few days.

[caption id="attachment_437" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="I love the linework. Hm, someone told me this was the way to go for more pageviews"][/caption]

Now I'm not one who particularly likes watching 'politics'-based shows, or those involving devious strategists and whatnot-- Gundam 00 kind of started to bore me after episode 3, while I probably just jumped on the bandwagon for Death Note but either way got bored when LADIES-- but seeing as to how I've taken quite nicely to Code Geass despite the ridiculous voice of Fukuyama Jun as Lulu (ugh, I especially hate his Zero voice just like I hate Christian Bale's voice when he does Batman), as well as the fact that I loved Ender's Game a few years back, I might just consider trying them out again once I've got free time. IF I don't get distracted too easily again, that would mean the December holidays, but this year my lack of time management is entirely off the charts, so I wouldn't count on that.

[caption id="attachment_434" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Contrast. Phew, the legs are mostly hidden. But the shoulders..."][/caption]

I don't happen to nitpick the plot that often since I'm not very sharp. But as for the art, you wouldn't even call it nitpicking.. I mean CLAMP does a great job for the manga versions (except for their inability to draw anything but anorexic bishies - just look at the legs and arms), but as for the anime art, though the animation's fluid, and mecha scenes still manage to keep my interest, characters look okay after a while since animation's fairly consistent, I can't say I love it. From the front, most of the faces drawn are fine (albeit always too angular), but the side profiles are the worst sometimes. Really, just look at it. Specifically the Angry/Emo/Angsty Lulu ones. The Fingers are quite horrid too.

[caption id="attachment_435" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Lulu angsts.. a lot. But 'nuff said, take a look at the fingers..."][/caption]

Another thing is that I can't help but start to laugh whenever Zero does one of his speeches. It is almost never complete without exaggerated hand-movements. That voice also contributes to the reason that I am so amused by it, I believe.

Summarised thoughts on characters so far:- Kallen is rather too tsundere for me, lol. But she sure kicks ass. A real pity she's reduced to a mere woman (=fanservice) in R2, sigh. And despite C.C.'s outright advertisement for Pizza Hut (They even rendered that crazy Cheese Fondue or whatever it's called pizza), I rather liked her (moreso before her memory loss in R2, but anyway). As for Lulu, he's fine without the maniacal laughter that simply must be there at least once every 5 episodes. Granted, he's quite the genius (at least in his little 2D fictional world), and a better strategist than I will ever be, but he's quite the siscon... Furthermore, he liked Shirley, that good-for-nothing bimbo.

[caption id="attachment_436" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="If Lulu wants an org-- I mean, harem, this is it. Daw, isn't he loved."][/caption]

That said, Rollo is still a bastard for killing her since she didn't mean any harm to him nor to Lulu (I'll take her word for it), and being jealous just because of his pathetic buracon. In fact his presence is quite uncalled for. Except for the oh-so-amusing Lulu x Rollo scenes and fanart. Quite disturbing how that even forms a whole fanbase (KL-chan included), but I'm not too surprised now since G00 has spawned such a fandom just based on the fujoshis (sirane included) already. Suzaku is another Syaoran clone, I believe? Suzaku is.. another very contradictory human. Euphie was a manifestation of Lulu's secret desire for a yandere in the series. No, really. a tragedy. Nina is indeed a lesbian retard, her face when Euphemia died was like the Higurashi girls gone crazy, only a thousand times more unpleasant on the eyes. I see it has spawned several 'shopped versions of other characters on danbooru. Lloyd (especially his voice) is gay. Oh and Sayoko is the greatest ninja ever, while Li Xingke is worshippable prodigy. Too bad he is a lolicon and will die for such a sin.

[caption id="attachment_438" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Main characters for R2.. Pretty decent fanart, I might say."][/caption]

...That's all for now, not much to say about the music (bgm is mostly orchestrated :3 and ops/eds are ookay..) or plot (I told you, I'm not sharp enough). Have I told you that I love to ramble? That's really all I am bothered to do nowadays it seems. :C It's a bad habit but I don't think it's going to change anytime soon. But I shall relieve you of any further pain from reading my horrible ramblings by ending soon D:

Random note, I've applied for JLPT Level 3 even though I'd aspired to try for Level 2 this year. :\ It's quite irritating how Level 3 seems too easy while Level 2 seems too hard. Sigh. Speaking of languages, though, Italian is such a pretty language. A pity learning languages requires commitment/passion and time.

I realise I've been neglecting Tetsuwan Birdy: DECODE. 'Tis sad.

[caption id="attachment_433" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="This is Lulu. (Is -ko even needed?) CAN YOU UNSEE IT? CAN YOU?!"][/caption]

P.S. Geass, or rather geis, or geasa -plural- which I assume the word is based on, is pronounced gesh. Sounds horrible, don't you think? Which is why, I suppose, they decided to coin their own word. Or maybe they just thought it would sound cool to use some rare word.

P.P.S. More picspam below:

/randomise/ In conclusion, Code Geass is a really popular franchise now... It's not bad, actually, quite action-packed most of the time, and deserves that popularity, but I think they could have toned down the fanservice. Especially the BL subtext. (Is it really even subtext anymore?!) Also, Fan-pandering and picspam is probably good for pageviews.

If you would excuse me, I have a foot drill test tomorrow. Dammit.

One of the most difficult things to deal with so far in CC’s change is the loss of transparenc

One of the most difficult things to deal with so far in CC's change is the loss of transparency. For 10 years, I've known everything she does, or thinks. When she has an orgasm, I know about it. When she masturbates I know about it. When she was upset about something, I knew about it, when she was in an intense relationship with someone, I knew exactly what was going on. I was always the first person that she told everything to.

Often it was through her journal, but a lot of it was simply talking. In the last year or so her journal writing really started to fade, despite several attempts by me to encourage it. Talking also really fell of, in the sense of telling me what she was thinking and what was going on in her head. That is part of why her revelation hit me so hard. Since then, I think it's picked up, although I still have a sense that she is holding things back. I suspect that part of the reason is that she doesn't know how I'll react to it. That has always been one of the reasons that I have encouraged a journal. I don't always have an initial positive reaction to things she tells me, but if I'm in a situation where I'm reading about it on my own, I have more time to process it and I can get myself there. The disconnect between revelation and response is one of the reasons that writing a journal is so important to transparency.

I find it difficult to deal with not being the first person she goes to when she needs to talk about something. I think that is something that I can overcome, but I'm not positive. It's hard being first in someone's thoughts for 10 years then not. I sound like such a whiner sometimes in here, but the reason I started writing this was to process my thoughts, even the ones that I usually control and don't let others see.

Now CC is talking about having two primary relationships, and the possibility of having Jessie move in (not in this house, I think we all know that). Part of me likes that idea, but it's mostly the pragmatic part of me, That would mean better financial situation, fewer house chores that I have to do (which is good, as long as I focus that time on something productive, like work, or the kids). I also think it might help with certain situations, because people will just think we are two couples, unfortunately those two couples would be CC and Jessie, and me and Bridget. Funny how I would be ok with it the other way around, but not so ok with that. I think that's because it's always been CC and me. I can't say that I'm thrilled about having even less alone time with CC. It's funny, I think we are both getting a lesson in how the other person has felt in the past. CC always felt that I moved way to fast in past relationships, and couldn't understand my position, now it is the opposite. I think having CC's position undefined is what is making it the most difficult for me to wrap my head around having another male living in the house. If I knew that she was still obedient to me, then it might be an easier adjustment.

Well, this post is getting way off from the topic, I think I should add "and random thoughts" to the post. But, if I set that precedent, I think you're going to see a lot of blog titles that end in "and random thoughts".

Ok, last thought for today, time to get some work done so I can go camping with the kids this weekend. Lately I've been feeling like a failure as a dominant because someone that used to self identify as my slave now no longer does. I have thought about going to some of the local dominants group and seeking advice, but I have a fear that the response would be "well that would never happen in my household, I know how to keep my girls in their place." I also doubt many dominants have ended up in this position. I sometimes have the thought that I should just step up and take back control, and put her back in her place (I know that sounds sexist, but it's not, because I don't think it's about gender). This whole thing has actually been causing some rape fantasies lately, (hmm, did I just say that out loud). At other times I don't think that I've failed, because my guidance is what got CC to where she is now, and she is a good, and successful person. That does raise some questions though, can you encourage someone to grow, in education level, in self confidence, in the ability to manage, and still have them be a slave, or will they naturally reach a point where they don't need that anymore?

Well, so much for one last thought, maybe I should change the name of the blog to the rambling taoist.

Three things and quickly (I talk too much, I’m sorry):
1. Prince Fielder is a name that could

Three things and quickly (I talk too much, I'm sorry):

1. Prince Fielder is a name that could come up during the offseason as a potential trade candidate. Jayson Stark (ESPN) notes that a team official (not with the Brewers) with "knowledge" of the Brewers' offseason plans is sure that the Brewers are willing to part with Fielder if the package is right (pitching). The Giants are rumored to be interested in the big first baseman, but that's merely speculation at this point.

The only reason I'm even posting this tidbit is because it relates to a need that the Yankees will try to address once the season is over. They need a first baseman and while Fielder isn't the most "athletic" player around (and his numbers have slipped a bit this year), he does fit into Cashman's concept of youth. He won't be a free agent until after the 2011 season, so that's definitely a plus, although Cashman (or whoever the GM is at the time) will probably have to part with a Phil Hughes to get him.

2. The final 2 bits aren't nearly as sexy as the Fielder story, but I'm sure this news will excite some of you. Melky Cabrera has been recalled in order to add depth to the Yankees outfield situation. Abreu shouldn't be out for too long (he could play today) so I wouldn't be overly concerned.

3. Finally (this is like, the quickest bit post I've ever done), here's an interesting read from the Daily News' Bob Raissman. Raissman points out that YES will likely suffer now that the Yankees probably won't make it to the playoffs (they'd lose ad revenue). He also points out that Cashman's influence over the team has led them away from big free agent signings, which could hamper future ratings and what not. Interesting stuff, but I guess Bob didn't hear Hank's "CC and Burnett" spiel from the other day.

On Sunday, Posh left to spend the afternoon with some friends and I fell asleep listening to the gam

On Sunday, Posh left to spend the afternoon with some friends and I fell asleep listening to the game before working the evening shift at Maxie’s. I woke up a little later, with Jim Powell chirping about an CC Sabathia’s errant error, and his amazing barehanded grab of a line drive for a double play. I paused as I was setting up the bar to watch CC strike out three of the last six batters to close the game. I immediately got a text from The Other J.J.

Did sabathia pitch a no no?

It certainly looked like he did — but then it was decided yesterday that he did not. We’ve said before that manager Ned Yost is a decent manager and leader of baseball playing men, and I defy any of these “Yost bashers” to watch the tape from his post-game tirade and not walk away liking the guy.

“That’s a stinking no-hitter we all got cheated from.”

CC wasn’t as worked up about it. I’ve been on a “no-hitter watch” every time he has started, since the first game we saw him pitch in Milwaukee, and I don’t expect that will change. On Monday, I declined an invitation to the game with my friend Dan in order to hang out with Posh. She arrived at my apartment.

“So... What do you want to do? I mean, we could... go to the beach... I don’t know, uh... maybe, the game? ... or, uh, a walk?”
“Babe, let’s... just go to the game,” she said, disgusted.

That’s known as an “enabler.” I asked her if she was going to get a bloody mary, and she nodded. Then I asked if that was the only reason she wanted to go to the game, and she nodded. I was holding (re: drinking some of) the bloody mary for her, and a women asked:

“Is that really worth the $10.50?”
“Almost,” I said. “It almost really is.”

We met up with Dan, and he and I banged our empty Miller Park mugs together when they played the cowbell clip at the game — but it was not enough, the Brewers could not come back after Éric Serge Gagné surrendered the lead.

“Gagné sucks,” Posh said.

But then an interesting thing happened: the Cubs lost. And the Cardinals lost. And the Phillies lost. And although the Brewers missed a great opportunity, they fared no better or worse than when the game started. It was like when you’re a kid, and you do something wrong — say, ding the car or have a party or put a baseball through a window — and you get away with it. You keep waiting to get grounded for the rest of your natural life. Another day goes by. The Brewers lose, but so do the Cubs. You keep waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it just... doesn’t.

On Tuesday night, I had planned on taking my grandpa to the game but I had to work late. I raced home to exchange the tickets for a later date while the game was still going on. I exchanged the tickets, and gathered that Salomón Torres had allowed a run. I power-walked back to the crib as folks filed out of the park in an empty mood.

As I followed the path around the outside of my apartment complex, I could see in every apartment, through the slats on the mini-blinds, that everyone was watching the game. Filtered lines of green turf and white pants legs kicking for the pitch cascaded in and out of sight. My shirt was sticking to my back — did you hear yesterday was like, the hottest day of the year? — and by the time I got to my apartment and flicked on the game, I was sweating.

I sat down in a daze and listened as Rickie Weeks came up to bat with two outs and the winning run on first base in the form of Gabe Kapler. And he meekly struck out. Yesterday the Mets finished a sweep of the Brewers on their home field. But the Astros also swept the Cubs on their home turf. The Mets are a playoff team — the Astros do not appear to be.

It’s still hot out here, and there’s still time for that other shoe to drop. Who’s sweating it?

This is another re-post from the Creative Commons website and is an article from Jane Park. We feelt

This is another re-post from the Creative Commons website and is an article from Jane Park. We feelt it would be useful to re-prodcude here so that everyone can find out about this brilliant competition. Last week, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, long-time supporter of CC, announced the second annual Digital Media and Learning Competition. The 2008 competition is a collaborative result of the MacArthur Foundation, the University of California, Irvine, Duke University, and HASTAC, a virtual and voluntary network of educators and innovators committed to improving learning via technology. The competition accompanies the MacArthur Digital Media and Learning Initiative, a $50 million, five-year initiative that was launched in 2006 to "help determine how digital technologies are changing the way people, especially young people, learn, play, socialize, and participate in civic life."

This year's competition theme is "Participatory Learning," which focuses on the collaborative aspect of learning by exploring different and new models in digital media. This may include "major adaptations of existing models of gaming, world building, social networking or other virtual environments; or the development of entirely new programs." The emphasis, however, is on "a strong commitment to making possible new ways of valuable participatory learning, as opposed to simply creating new content."

$2 million will be awarded in sum over two categories: "Innovation in Participatory Learning" and "Young Innovator." The latter's focus is the same, but the targeted group is 18-25 year old persons who are willing to "think boldly about what comes next in participatory learning and to contribute to making it happen."

The winning products and/or programs will be licensed CC BY-NC-SA or be available as Open Source. For more details, see the MacArthur Foundation's August 18th press release and the competition guidelines .

For examples of winning projects, see last year's winners in Innovation and Knowledge-Networking.

Over at the Imaginary Journal of Poetic Economics, librarian Heather Morrison has been tracking the Dramatic Growth of Open Access over the past couple of years in a series of blog posts.

On Friday, Morrison noted that the growth rate of the DOAJ (directory of open access journals) has almost doubled in the past year. She writes:

This simple chart illustrates the near doubling of the growth rate of the Directory of Open Access Journals from 2007 to 2008, from an average of more than 1.2 new title per calendar day, to an average of 2.2 new titles per calendar day.

As further illustration of the growth rate of DOAJ: as of today, DOAJ includes 3,587 journals , and has added 63 new titles in the last 30 days, more than 2 new titles per day (and it's August!). Since September 30, 2007, DOAJ has grown from 2,846 titles, an increase of 741 titles in 11 months, or 330 days at 30 days/month, for an average net growth of 2.2 titles per day. In the September 30, 2007 Dramatic Growth of Open Access update, I noted a growth rate of 1.2 titles / day for DOAJ over the previous year.

Now, if you're like me and need a visual aid to understand the rate of growth in absolute number of titles versus rate of new titles, check out this chart I tossed together from Heather's data:

You can now download the first two Command & Conquer: Red Alert games on the official homepage of EA!

Wait...EA?! Well, naturally this is nothing but a shamelessly positive and clever means of promoting the upcoming third part in the series, which is set for release on 29 October. But whatever, go for the first two Red Alerts here!

Red Alert 3 has shown some more potential recently when EA revealed the Japanese fraction with its interesting strategical units, all blessed with some random clichée name like Jet Tengu, Shogun Battleship or Naginata Cruiser. The trademark female commando character for Japan is called Yuriko Omega (cool!) and she has a typical anime girl's pigtails! =D

By the way, here's the main cast for Red Alert 3's story sequences:

Ivana Milicevic, Peter Stormare, Andrew Divoff, George Takei, Jenny McCarthy, Tim Curry, J.K. Simmons, Jonathan Pryce, Gina Carano

Gemma Atkinson, Kelly Hu, Autumn Reeser and Randy "The Natural" Couture are also attached to the cast list. What a lineup!
