Poznan city tip number two: You can learn what’s hot in the city just by looking at posters. Poznan is covered with posters for events; from walls to traffic lights, every club is trying to let you know that there’s something good going on. I may go on to say you don’t even need the internet to learn what’s going on. If that’s not good enough for you, there are people everywhere handing out flyers for some party. I got the habit of collecting whatever they are handing out, after I learned that they were getting paid for the amount of flyers they handed. Fifty Groces is an awfully low amount; so if you are like me you’ll be returning home with tens of flyers in your pockets.

So one particularly cold night out, when I’m going back home from some heavy partying, I see them. Five big muscled men, staring back at me on a poster that said a lot of Polish things, and the word Chippendales. You can blame it on the vodka, I blame it on voyeurism. No matter what the reason was I was excited as hell. All I needed was thirty Zlotys and I would be a part of the show.

The next day I woke up with a pretty bad hangover. I couldn’t remember half of my night except one thing: there were going to be some dude-stripping tonight. I was supposed to go to the bank and to a pretty important lecture but none of them was as exciting as some six-packs so I decided to take the day off and rest.

The news traveled in a flash of light. There were about twenty girls now; eager to see dirty dance routines. I even convinced the shyest of my friends. We were ready to go; we felt like we were pioneers, we felt like we were the baldest of our kind, we felt like nothing could stop us. Except for one thing: We didn’t know where the club was.

Poznan city tip number three: On the contrary of the older generation, young Poles can speak pretty good English. So whenever you get lost, no matter what time, you can rely on the future of Poland: the youngsters. After spending some amount of time looking for the place, and me telling strangers that I was looking for some strippers, we made our way to Club Alcatraz.

To our surprise we only had to pay ten zlotys. That’s the beauty of Poland, no matter what price they are asking, it turns out that you can have it for a bit cheaper. We entered the room, packed with Polish women; already half as drunk and impatient. Knowing that I had to be drunk as well I ordered my drink.

Polish drink of the day: Do not forget to have some Polish beer. While they have great brands like Tyskie, Zywetiec and Lech I prefer them the way they have it: with Blueberry syrup. I don't know what it's called i but they get it when you say syrup and it tastes delicious.

The DJ screamed something in Polish and every single person in the room got super excited . The DJ screamed something else and the Polish ladies responded all together at the same time. Suddenly this turned into an actual conversation. I didn’t even know if they were talking about males in thongs or the current political consensus of Poland. Just as I was about to start shouting something back in Turkish, the lights dimmed and three men entered the stage.

Now I am not going to give you detailed descriptions of the striptease show, the moves they got and their penis sizes, but I can assure you it was one of the funniest experience I’ve had in my life. You must keep in mind that it was not at all sexy or arousing at all, It rather made you giggle like a little girl and smile all the time. So if you are in town and if you are looking for some unusual fun stuff to do, keep an eye on the posters. Various Chippendales groups come to Poznan at least twice a year for a couple of days. And if you are lucky, you can get a lap dance-a completely hillarious one.

If you happen to be a guy who is not found of naked hombres, do drop by at club Tuba. They have streaptease shows for guys regularly. The atmosphere is nice and the entrance is free. But if you ask my opinion, big boobs, fake tan is not that fun- and yet again it’s not that Polish neither.

Ever since that day when I saw myself with a shiny sixpack posing in a purple speedo (looking back at it, it was really gay), I knew that altering the world in pictures was right up my alley. A few years of frequent photoshopping later I got accepted to the media program at my high school of choice. Three years of Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive and Final Cut Pro followed. It was like a wet dream.

After graduating high school, I realized that the luxury of choice made me unsure of which path to follow. Should I become a photographer? Film maker? Graphic designer? I had no clue, so I went with plan B: one year in the army to think about it.

One year and many miles of walking, endless hours of cleaning and some really cool sessions at the shooting range later, I was still not sure. I'd had enough of green clothes and abusing CO's so I fled to Sweden. At the University of Karlstad in the city with the same name I studied film science and visual narrative through comic books for one year. Halfway through my year in Sweden I decided to follow my dream to go abroad for school. The choice was obvious, I was going to the US. The country my dad went to when he was 19, and then again years later. This was the county where the stories took place, the stories he'd told me so many times.

Influenced by too many American movies I set my mind on California. Originally looking into photography schools, I ended up applying for a bunch of regular State Universities. Then one sunny day in April 2007, I got a letter welcoming me as a student at the California State University, Fresno. I was going to be a graphic design student.

So far the best decision in my life was buying that plane ticket, and getting on that plane. Even though I thought I wanted to do photography school, some of my best shots I've taken due to graphic design assignments.

At the moment, I am lucky enough to work as a graphic designer on campus (creating posters, logos and fliers for a 22,000 student body), I am doing graphics for a newly started fight gear company called Violence Alliance, I am doing graphics for the very talented Norwegian DJ Kr:ystall (his MySpace should be up soon) and I have been working with my friend Marc and his company All American Beerpong. I feel lucky.

Several days back, I'd fueled many of the fraccy friends on the fuelroll with a message about what an idiot I am for doing yardwork out in the heat. Though that in itself would've been sufficient to warrant giving myself the asshat of the day award, I also managed to give myself a hernia. I believe it's one of these... though I have a few days to wait for an appointment to see my doctor to find out for sure.

In the meanwhile, I've been busy thinking of all the things I should have in order to be able to "take it easy" so as not to make it worse or become an emergency situation.

1. Breakfast in bed. Daily. You have no idea how heavy a piece of toast is once it matters. I don't think I should be lifting anything as heavy as toast unless I'm lying down.
2. A bell. One of those elegant silver plated models the rich and famous ring for the butler with. Mr. Fracas deserves to be rung for in style, don't you think?
3. Some dance lessons for Mr. Fracas. It's boring "resting" all the time. I should be entertained when the breakfast in bed arrives, shouldn't I? After all, I got this way because I was working so hard taking care of the fraccy yard. Shouldn't I be rewarded?
4. A new laptop. I need to catch up here and all over the interweaves. Srsly. All this going up and down the stairs might strangulate the poor thing. How would you like that to happen to some long sausage-shaped thingy of yours?

Confused? Oh. You must have not clicked on the link in the earlier paragraph. That's ok. I'm in need of some idiot company. This will all make much more sense though, if you click and see what I'm talking about. Trust me. It's not all gory and gruesome. Some might even find it a little racy. Medical diagrams... poor man's porn.

Just now on The View, the Chippendale dancers opened the show because the show is live from Las Vegas. They were dancing and gyrating around. And they busted their shirts open and danced some more. I felt like I needed some kind of warning about this and averted my eyes. It was a bit much.

Yesterday, I was flipping through a People Magazine (the one with Tim Russert on the cover) and there Mario Lopez was in all his glory. Seriously, look it up. Do a search for Mario Lopez nude on a bear skin rug. Whoa. Um. OK. That was a lot of flesh showing on that 2-page photo, a re-creation of Burt Reynolds in Cosmo in 1972. I didn't need to see either of those photos.

A weekend ago, I went to a concert. It was a pretty big one with a well-known artist. Before the main act graced the stage, a slightly lesser-known performer took the stage. His performance was very theatrical and it essentially took us on a musical journey through a romantic relationship. Boy meets girl, they date, and they "get it on." Yeah, they start to "get it on" in front of us (thankfully, the "completion" occurred backstage). At first I was thinking, "WTF is this? Is she supposed to be doing that? Is this what I think it is?" It was very... um... uncomfortable to witness this, so I didn't. I leaned over to my friend and asked, "Is it me or do you feel like we're watching something we shouldn't be? I feel like a voyeur." She nodded in agreement.

So I ask you, am I just getting old? Am I a prude? Or have we reached scandalously low levels of decency?

And all I can say is WHY??!!! Who would wear this in public? I mean, I see this all the time at Urban Outfitters. Their cashiers always seem to flash their underwear at me while they fold some shirts with some "witty" phrase emblazoned on them.

And Prada also seems to like the shiny this year. And why? We went through this when men sported the monochrome shimmer during the height of the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" craze. Seriously. Do we really need anymore shiny shirts and ties.

Lastly, Prada has seriously lost touch with anyone on the street with the addition of the following to their collection:

Imi pica absolut involuntar pupilele pe roBUSTUL siliconaj al vecinei de rand, care incapabila de a schita alceva decat un ranjet isi legana alene posesiile.. Asa k daca pana la finalizarea circului nici o gagica n-a sughitat, momentul fotografic d epe urma s-a lasat cu scaderi masive in randuri..eh..pentru numai, dar NUMAI 30 de RONi puteai lua acasa mostra polaroidoasa a evenimentului..sa va fie de bine tu..

In imbulzeala creata ma intorc dupa geanta, cand o aud pe trupesha cu bidoane de mai devreme elucubrandu-si frenetic agonia : " NU ma mai spal 2 saptamani dupa asta! ". Nas sa nu ai! :P

Voelt eigenlijk best freaky, maar aan de andere kant ook wel fijn: die rekening zien staan op naam van "Leemans - Van Bever". Alvast een voorproefje voor de rest van ons leven samen!

Vanaf nu zijn al onze zuurverdiende centjes 'ons' geld :-) Handig, want hij verdient momenteel veel meer dan ik :p

Bovendien heb ik me laten verleiden tot een pensioenspaarplan! OK, dit lijkt een 'ver van mijn bed'-show, maar Jo heeft me al, tot vervelens toe, alle voordelen opgesomd: een betere investering kan je tegenwoordig blijkbaar niet doen, 't is fiscaal héél aantrekkelijk en het brengt enorm veel op. Binnen 43 jaar dan :-) Dat krijg je als je verliefd bent op een boekhouder! Ik spaar vanaf nu dus elke maand 67 euro voor mijn oude dag... Hoewel, oud? Op je 65ste ben je tegenwoordig nog in de fleur van je leven!! Eén ding weet ik zeker: tegen dan staat er een flink spaarpotje op me te wachten!

Nog enkele nieuwtjes: TV Vlaanderen heeft me gevraagd of ik bereid ben mijn contract te verlengen. Ik ben er niet meteen op gesprongen. Ik heb immers nog een sollicitatie bij Brussels Airlines in het vooruitzicht, plus (waarschijnlijk) een sollicitatie bij Sanoma. Thierry ging me normaal gezien vandaag opbellen met meer nieuws, maar waarschijnlijk had hij het te druk. Volgende week meer! Ik verkies een vast contract toch wel boven een verlenging van een tijdelijk contract... Zoals iedereen waarschijnlijk :-) Stel dat ik direct 'ja' had gezegd, was ik pas in januari of zelfs pas in februari beschikbaar voor een vaste job. Graag zou ik toch nog dit jaar mijn handtekening onder een 'contract van onbepaalde duur' zetten hoor!

kid creole and his coconuts were a tropical, clashing inclassifiable group who made comedy records with some credibility. i did say some, they were funky novelty records at the end of the day. post benny hill political incorrectness, but positively chaste compared to today's r&b bootyvideos.

mark morrison - crazy

he needn't have made this list but for the fact that he's an absolute tosser, and for that reason alone you feel slightly dirty listening to his music. when he's not banged up for the usual drugs/gbh/theft, mark likes to parade around london nightclubs with two 'bitches' on his arm. classy.

mc hammer - u can't touch this

in 1990, everyone loved mc hammer despite the fact that each and every one of his songs was a blatant ripoff. once we caught on, after our indignant parents played us the originals to demonstrate how crap he was, his career sunk faster than his dancing. everyone ignored his attempt to drop the 'mc', and soon his trousers were out of fashion and so was he.

michael bolton - how am i supposed to live without you

michael bolton looked like an ageing chippendale and sang power ballads that were oddly compelling. for a 14 year old girl, the curly mulleted one shouldn't have resonated, but did, because it sounded like he had loved and lost a few paperboys in his time as well. i was over it in a week.

vanilla ice - ice ice baby

where to start. well forget the proto eminem, pretty-fly-for-a-white guy persona, and the fact that he looked like he'd been brought up on crisps. and gloss over the fact that every other song he ever put out was shit. this tune still rocks a yates wine bar on a friday night, for those of a certain age, and you know it.

milli vanilli - girl you know its true

that miming incident and the ensuing revelation that milli vanilli didn't sing their own songs was puzzling to me. from the outset, there was clearly a woman singing in the background and rob'n'fab were german not american. the idea that the braided ones couldn't sing was slightly less shocking to me than their shoulder pads and odd wooden puppet style dancing.

mn8 - i've got a little something for you

a boyband song i liked when i was just about too old to like boybands, ie of legal drinking age. i think one of my university flatmates pulled the lead singer one night. she didn't sell the story - we had grants in those days. plus we were only just realising the phenomenom of being able to carve a whole career from a one night stand or by being a celebrity girlfriend who wears a dress fashioned from safety pins.

spice girls - say you'll be there

i hated the spice girls. every boy i knew was obsessed with them, and baby spice was my age and had millions in the bank, while i was a student. an anti-student who shopped in harvey nicks, nonetheless. i liked this song and hated myself for it. now i really couldn't give a shit. i promise many of you will feel the same way about girls aloud in a decade's time.

vanessa paradis - joe le taxi

again, vanessa was dislikable for the very fact that boys liked her so much. still, you could sing along to joe le taxi without being expected to know the correct lyrics, which was a bonus. 'ampoule day ash' anyone? apparently she was singing 'embouteillage'. she needs some elocution lessons. perhaps johnny can buy her some *hisssssssssssssssssss*

nkotb - i wanna be loved by you

this track, from their debut album, way before they were famous, sounds like an old creme egg advert. but instead of listing what they liked to do with creme eggs, they boys introduced themselves, their starsigns and somewhat unnecessarily pitched themselves as possible boyfriends to millions of teenage girls. red flag, bull. has to be heard to be believed.

wham - young guns

george michael encouraging people to be unemployed and play the field? imagine such a thing from such an upstanding citizen. more criminal was possibly the worst (best) rapping ever. if you haven't seen the george michael episode of star stories, you need to. now. 'we're wham boys, and we're on the dole. ooh yeah!' classic.

will smith - getting jiggy with it

we've since established that jazzy jeff was the talented musician, but will had the charm and the character. this tune was a favourite for women in white stretch lace in branches of time and envy up and down the UK. i defy you not to sing, dance, or both.
