We dropped by the Comme des Garcons Guerrilla Store the other day and it was closed!!! Logic tells us the staff is probably just out to lunch since they are having a party this Thursday in celebration of the arrival of the Unholy Matrimony collection as well as new fall arrivals:

In previous years, H&M has collaborated with various designers to put out a special collection. Past designers includes Stella McCartney, Madonna, Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf, and Roberto Cavalli. Well, this year is Comme des Garcons's turn. For those of you who are not quite familiar with Comme des Garcon, it's an avant-garde line from Japan. Headed by powerhouse designer, Rei Kawakubo, the line will include menswear, womenswear,childrenswear, accessories, and a unisex fragrance.

One of the dresses is already getting a lot of attention. Why? Because it cost $349! Wow, I know. Those certainly aren't H&M prices. Even other H&M designer collections prices weren't that high; sure they were a little more than regular H&M prices, but they were still affordable. However, if you look at the big picture, it's still kind of a steal, considering that a normal piece of Comme des Garcon will put you back thousands and thousands of dollars. The H& MComme des Garcon pieces will be Comme des Garcon from the construction down to the details. The other designer pieces in the past, on the other hand, were H&M quality.

In honor of its Japanese roots, the line will first launch in Japan on November 8th, while the rest of the world will have to wait until the 13th. It will be interesting to see if it's an instant sell out like past designer collections. Although, I don't plan on purchasing any pieces, I will, however, definitely check it out.

Paris Fashion Week.

Alexander McQueen fez sua apresentação na semana de moda de Paris ontem. Ele montou a passarela com vários animais (isso é mais pra Cavalli, mas tudo bem). A coleção tava morninha, morninha.

Show bom mesmo, sem frufru, foi do Karl Lagerfeld e da Comme des Garçons.
Tio Karl fez uma coleção toda masculinizada, linda. E ainda mostrou uma bolsinha com a estampa do seu rosto (dizem que o preço inicial vai ser de 15 mil reais, veja só você). A Comme des Garçons fez sua linha baseada em.... err.... uma bola de futebol. Fico meio de cara com essas inspirações dementes. Mas o resultado foi bom.

Harem Pants? Really?

Though harem pants have caught on like wildfire in Europe (particularly Spain I hear), I really can't see this one taking off in North America (at least off the catwalks).

Harem pants (or Hammer pants for those who remember the M.C.) tend to do an ace job hiding historic trouble spots for women (the thighs and butt), though to what end? I have yet to see this look pulled off on the street even in European style blogs. Perhaps I haven't been looking hard enough; though I have a hunch this one is just not meant to be.

My mind remains open, though. I would have to say there would be a requirement of height for this trend; seeing even a stick thin petite woman wear harem pants would be entirely unflattering. We'll see how the Comme des Garçons for H&M versions fare when that line is released next November.

I'm very much removed from Paris Fashion Week. I take 48 hours out from blogging to enroll at Saint Martins and when I return to the computer there's a list of about 15 or so shows I desperately want to watch. So here I am, dressed in a hoodie, big t-shirt and leggings, eating the distinctly odd baked beans with little sausages mixed in and looking at the likes of Comme Des Garcons and Junya Watanabe. Hmmm. I'm sure he and Rei would see the funny side.

The Comme Des Garcons show marked a departure from the almost-wearability of the past few seasons. Back to black (almost a fashion joke there as last season was inspired by Miss Winehouse herself) with candyfloss wigs and PVC. The most relevant and wearable idea from the collection was the flat lace-ups and ankle socks look, which has prevailed lately and is very possibly The Next Big Thing in footwear, in my opinion, even though one's legsies do tend to get cold. All in all though, it was very abstract and sculptural, though perhaps on the eve of her collaboration with giant of the mainstream H&M, Rei Kawakubo wants to re-emphasise her position as the very edgiest around.

Junya Watanabe was a lot more fun - he seemed to have come over all tribal, with lovely african style prints and those fantastic headdresses which also had a little of Carmen Miranda about them. Some surprisingly wearable pieces, and though I wont be able to afford any of them there is always inspiration to be taken from ideas such as the mixed prints, draping and the lines drawn up the models' legs, which reminded me of subverted stocking seams.

A surprise favourite here - Tao. With minimal past knowledge of the label apart from a few glances in Dover Street Market, I only really watched this show because it went with my Japan in Paris theme. I'm glad I did because Tao Kurihara really captured my imagination, summing up my preferred aesthetic (odd, doll-like with obscure references) as fluently as my firm favourite Charles Anastase does. I love the white, layered blouse with the Peter Pan collar on the left below - actually I love all the blouses - the floral skirts and the metallic brogues.

Now, since we're roughly on the topic, how about that Rei Kawakubo for H&M then? I've make myself a nice wishlist from the collection and am counting down the days until it's released. I only hope the quality doesn't prove to be disappointing as with the Karl Lagerfield and Victor and Rolf stuff.

That was a mammoth blog but there'll be more on the Paris shows tomorrow.

COMME des GARÇONS / See it All

COMME des GARÇONS for H&M is like the baby we have been anxiously waiting to be born. Today we got the sonogram, and the Fashion Intel likes some of what we see, particularly the navy and black trench [pictured]. We sided with other bloggers when they threw their arms up about that $350 dress, but truly, when will the opportunity to own these designs at this price tag come again? That is not an admittance on our part for a CDG shopping spree nor even a promise to buy, but we're just saying.

The Cut linked a page featuring what is said to be the entire collection. It looks like it's missing some items, but we'll see if anything else pops up. Our ruling is still out, but I can say be are a bit underwhelmed. "Hate that" is in the lead over "love that", but those few wonderfully crafted pieces have us drooling.

Pocket Shop: Comme des Garcons

Comme des Garcons (Rei Kawakubo) recently opened several pop-up shops in Paris that they are calling Pocket shops. This one, located in Marais, and looks pretty simple and inviting. I suppose that they are simply miniature versions of the pop-up shops that CdG has become famous for. No news as to how long they will be open, but definitely stop by for some CdG basics including accessories and items from the Play collection.

El concepto de anti-moda desde dentro de la misma moda es algo que nunca ha dejado de inquietarme, por decirlo de alguna manera; no se puede ser un verdadero anti-moda* dentro de la moda, cuando, precisamente, lo que está más de moda es ser anti-moda... O sea, What?

Me gusta el espíritu y el concepto -que no siempre las formas- de Comme des Garçons pero, como Rei, yo creo que el equilibrio entre creación y negocio (véase, precio) siempre acaba siendo un dilema difícil de resolver, y estoy deseando que la colección llegue a las tiendas el 13 de Noviembre (si tengo suerte y ando por Japón, será cinco días antes) para comprobar cómo ha logrado ella ese equilibrio tan ansiado. O no.

Aunque corriendo el riesgo de parecer una romántica totally out-fashioned confesaré, así entre tú y yo, que antes que el vestido de chorreras a lo gothic lolita (aprox. 250€ limited edition), yo sigo prefieriendo la propuesta blanca y radiante que los holandeses Viktor&Rolf presentaron también para H&M hace ya algún tiempo.

* Ahora ya no se puede, cuando empezó Rei, en los 70 se podía, total y completamente y, de hecho, es lo que hizo ella.

Na, da hatten in Paris zwei Hair Stylisten wohl die gleiche Idee (oder es war ein und derselbe): Erst gab es diese Versailles-Perücken bei Jeremy Scott, und bei Comme des Garçons sah es dann ähnlich aus.

Das war dann auch das Hellste der Kollektion von Rei Kawakubo. Der Rest lief Schwarz auf Schwarz mit Skulptur-Elementen, Leder und der Überdosis Japan-Exzentrik. Der Hit für anstehende Foto-Shoots.
