Harvard Business School dean may join Citi board: Report
9 Jul, 2008,

NEW YORK: India-born chief executive Vikram Pandit-led world's biggest bank Citigroup is close to announcing that Harvard Business School Dean Jay O Light will join the company's board.

"Four months after embarking on a search for directors with financial expertise, Citigroup is close to announcing that the dean of the Harvard Business School will join its board," the New York Times reported today quoting people briefed on the search.

The board is underfire after the banking giant incurred over 40 billion dollars in write-offs from the subprime crisis and is expected to see more write-downs in the second quarter.

Vikram Pandit had also announced a major restructuring initiative to shore up the firm from the subprime fiasco.

According to the newspaper, Jay O Light, an expert in asset and risk management, who has led the business school since 2005, is being recruited to fill one of at least three seats expected to be vacated in the coming months.

Earlier, the world's biggest bank had confirmed that the company's board is looking for new directors especially those with an expertise in finance and investments.

The confirmation came from Citigroup's Independent Lead Director and Chairman of the Nomination and Governance Committee, Alain Belda, in response to shareholders' inquiries related to the retirement of certain directors.

"... one director retired from the Board by not standing for reelection at the April 22, 2008 Annual Shareholder Meeting, and two other directors will meet the retirement age by the time of the April 2009 Annual Shareholder Meeting," the banking giant had said in a statement.

A couple of years ago, I signed up to Myspace. It was pretty much just out of curiosity. I guess I wanted to see what all of the hype was about, so I think I just gave it a trial, and, later, decided to stick with it...

I started to make many acquaintances there; mainly people with a similar mindset to my own, and many without, so I stuck with it... I stopped using it for socializing and started using it to spread the word, and political networking became a hell of a lot easier.

Those of you who know what Myspace was like a couple of years ago will have noticed a great deal of change... Ever since Tom sold us out to Fox...

Myspace has grown a great deal at a very, very fast rate, and hardly any of it is for the better...

They're now admitting censoring prisonplanet.com, and the whole site has become just another vehicle for the mainstream media and the corporations to further push their disgusting ways on the majority that will so obviously blindly give in to the indoctrination.

Though I'll continue to use this site for networking purposes, I think it's very important that I let you know... Myspace is just a business, ran by a corporation that's been caught censoring, fabricating, lying and cheating over and over again... It's now a big part of the indoctrination program itself...

It's just like any other government financed institution of education, because that's all it is...

Myspace is definitely playing its part in trying to bring about global governance, but, just like with the other corporations, all the dodgy politicians, the international bankers, the compromised think-tanks... It's not going to work.

Game over.

I like to check the trackbacks to my articles and, lo and behold, Skype has a blog. How do I know this?

Because their writer/blogger summarized my article "Hype for Skype".

Um. Hi, Skype. So...come here often? How 'bout those [insert sports team here]? No? You don't want to make small talk? Erm. Ok. Well, I guess you heard. About how I feel. About you.

Yes. Yes, it's true. I love you. I love you.

No, no, I couldn't possibly accept free US/Canada service for a whole year. I'm sorry, Skype, but my love's not for sale. Just be you. Wonderful, glorious, beautiful you. And I'll be happy. I'm in it for the long-haul. You didn't make sign my soul over to you for two years, but - believe me - I am committed to you. I am still yours. Completely.

Hush now. Don't say a word. Your summary contained all I needed to know. And Skype? If you want...well, you can come back again...sometime.

Hip hop is far from the first culture to be infiltrated and subsequently mined for profit by corpora

Hip hop is far from the first culture to be infiltrated and subsequently mined for profit by corporations, but the trends, rhythms, fashions, and lifestyle of hip hop has global effect, from suburbanites in the Valley to hustlers in Brooklyn to cab drivers in Africa.

With a global audience, it was only a matter of time before corporations reached out to hip hop to validate their image. To this end, corporate America has met with unparalleled success, securing rap godfather KRS-ONE and all-around mogul Jay-Z as two of their biggest spokesmen:

KRS-ONE Interview: Rap Merges with Major Brands

Jay-Z Co-Brand Director of Budweiser Select

As more hip-hop celebrities become spokespeople for brands, we see a dovetail with earlier trends (reference "Remix!") and the artists' answer to recording studios' new 360 degree contracts. As individual album sales may drop due to open source technologies, artists both become and represent brands.

Artists can certainly profit in this manner, but is this trend (a) good for the culture the artists propagate and/or (b) a risky attempt to trade on "street cred" for major companies?

Perhaps some other dons of hip hop, the Wu-Tang Clan, have the answer embedded in the lyrics to their banger "Protect Ya Neck":

First of all, who's your A&R
A mountain climber who plays an electric guitar?
But he don't know the meaning of dope
When he's lookin for a suit and tie rap
that's cleaner than a bar of soap
And I'm the dirtiest thing in sight...

REFLECTIONS

1. When worlds collide (e.g. hip hop culture and corporate America) in pursuit of a common goal (profit), at what point is the relationship between credibility and profit no longer linear and exponential?

2. How can businesses draw on the talents and experiences of artists to profit in a respectful and reciprocal manner?

ACTION

Keep it Real.

By Patrick McGee Copyright 2008

You're giving a presentation to influence a group to support a project and at the end you get this question from the most important person in the room: “Are you sure you're asking for enough money?”

Is that victory or what?

It happened to a client I worked with. It happened because he identified the most important person in the room. It happened because in his presentation he addressed the most important business concern that the most important person in the room had. And it happened because he made certain to remind the most important person in the room of that most important concern – at the beginning, in the middle and at the end.

Identifying the most important person in the room was easy. Zeroing in on that person's primary business driver took a couple of tries. Why? Well, like most of us, my client considered this most important person's most important issue through his own lens and the driver he identified first was not enough for the president to override his own lukewarm interest and the conflicting interests of others and support this proposal so strongly.

In coaching this client during is preparation, we moved up the president's “hierarchy of needs” until we found the ultimate driver: his financial target. The proposal was then built to set this context in the president's mind for the duration of the presentation and to show how the proposal supported the achievement of that target. And that's why the president wanted to ensure the success of the proposal.

We have duplicated this success with others for their speeches and presentations by using the same approach. Its successful application relies on the use of the Why? question. (The Japanese use a concept called The Five Why's? They keep asking Why? until they are satisfied that they have deepened their understanding to the fullest.) Spending preparation time on getting this front end right helps ensure success at the end of the presentation.

What about a mixed audience? We get this question a lot. We use the same approach.

Example: A client was going to a major industry conference in Europe. There was a lot at stake for the client. Her company had invested heavily in the content she would present and her boss wanted the company to make an impact. Her performance was going to be closely watched.

We talked through who would be in the audience. Not only did we identify audience segments (customers, potential customers, competitors, other suppliers, media, others) so that we could identify who was most important to talk to, but we also analyzed what their mindset would be at the time that my client would make her presentation. The reality is that getting 45 minutes right after lunch on the third day of a conference is like the story reader at kindergarten at naptime. Yes, you'll have some listeners, but most of the audience will be tuned out, even if their eyes are open.

That analysis of the audience is important. We knew what the client was facing. Then we put ourselves in the seats of the audience. (This is a great exercise: Ask yourself, “If I am sitting in this audience, how I am I feeling and what am I interested in?”) The client had a lot of data. Would the audience absorb it? Why were they there? Why would they stay awake and listen to my client? Why would what she had to say make an impact? Why would they engage with the company? Why would they follow up?

The answers to these questions fine-tuned the base presentation and the tactics to achieve the goal of the company. Instead of the presentation being over laden with data and rushed, to get it all in without running overtime, my client knew what the audience needed and how best to deliver on that need. She set the context: why do companies need to know about this data? Then she whets their appetite: What kinds of data have been collected? Finally, she set the measurable engagement piece: How can attendees (even the napping ones) get access to all of the data?

So, what’s new about this audience analysis? Nothing except the depth. Most people who make presentations think about their audience. In truth, many make too many assumptions (that’s a subject for a future blog post) and their analysis is light, or lacking, or they propose to talk to everyone, instead of to those who really matter. And sometimes they just miss what the audience really needs to hear, especially if it’s not what they said they wanted to hear.

Any audience can be analyzed and strategized. If you feel that you won’t be rigorous in doing it on your own, get some help: a colleague or a coach. We get so close to the subject we can’t see the forest because we have our nose pressed up against a tree. Remember the client at the beginning of this post? Would the president, the most important person in the room, have asked him that commitment-laden question if the client had not pushed himself to find and invoke the key driver that would eventually trigger the president’s support? If you want it you have to know whom you’re talking to and why.

Stau la intrarea in corporatie.
Noi vom avea parte de coaching in departament.

You can learn a lot on a field trip. Maybe even have some fun. Grade school field trips came up last

You can learn a lot on a field trip. Maybe even have some fun. Grade school field trips came up last week in a team brainstorming meeting. Some experiences totally depended on which parent was assigned to your group, and how much roaming, clowning around, or simply being a kid you were allowed to do. Others recounted going places that were probably informative and important, but not much fun to a 5th grader.

Our team captain recounted a scenario which included getting lost at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, and almost missing the bus back to Maryland. That would have been cool today with travelling exhibits like “Real Pirates” which tells the true story of the Whydah, a pirate ship that was found off the coast of Cape Cod in 1984 by underwater explorer Barry Clifford. But back then you couldn’t slip into the IMAX® to see what they describe as “The Dark Knight’s larger-than-life images, state of the art digital surround sound, all-encompassing screens and patented theatre geometry—designed to put you IN the movie.” So much for 5th grade field trips!

Today we want to treat you to a grown-up field trip. It’s appropriate for kids, too, so if you have one or two looking over your shoulder, be sure to invite them into the action. You’ll all have fun. If you don’t have kids, the grown-up kid in the next office might want to join you...

Here’s a fascinating look into the other kind of useful and beautiful things talented designers are creating with cork oak. Click Here.

Now, a field trip could take all day or more, but this one is only three minutes, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the trip.

It feels really good to know that when you create, design, fashion, use, or walk on cork oak, someone in Portugal or Spain did not cut down a tree, or harm a habitat to harvest the bark. We’ve written about this before here, so we won’t belabor it again, but it makes us feel really good about what we do. Any mostly, that’s why our teachers took us on field trips...not just to have fun, but to help us feel good, learn, and appreciate the work of others.

So, if you get a chance, take a look at what our talented designers at Amorim have created for your home, or office, or hotel or hospital...cork oak floors that provide warmth, silence, comfort, and a healthy environment to live in.

Until our next trip...

I was thinking the other day how all websites are basically the “same old same old”. Th

I was thinking the other day how all websites are basically the "same old same old". They are all "let's put some navigation up and make sure people know where they're going" type of thing. The structures are similar and the ideas are similar.

Well, I got bored of my Vida Innovation website about a year ago and just stuck a few things up there and ignored it - and then removed most of the content and turned it into a virtual business card. It wasn't core to my business as most of the work my company brings in through through networking both online and offline (mostly offline actually).

So, thinking about the new web 2.0 stuff and how it's "all about content" and that's great, I decided to try to think what a website for a company would look like if it's trying to be innovative and web 2.0-ish. Basically, all the stuff on a website is content. If you take it that there are different types of content (photos, blogs, pages etc) then you have a content types.

Once you have content types, how do you arrange them? Well, web 2.0 seems to be all about allowing others to arrange content and tagging is a big thing. But what if you were to tag all your own website content, so that others could find information out.

Tagging is useful in that respect, so I built a very simple Tag Cloud for my website:

Vida Info Cloud

I built it very quickly and it has an admin backend to CrUD content and tags for that content. It's not user-generated tags, but I don't really care. The principle is the same as for this wordpress blog, so that people can find content.

The other thing is that the navigation is basically linked to a tag, and not to specific pages. So it's really really simple to update.

I suppose it's basically a blogging tool for a company website. But instead of directing the user, the user is allowed to find their own path.

Told my friend Nigel Crawley and he said that at opentech the Guardian had unveiled their new site structure, all based around tags.

Now, I'm sure it's not the perfect UX, but who cares? I like the system so much, that the tag cloud will become my main company site for the foreseeable future, just to see if it produces results.

Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated. Currently, it needs work on design, but I liked the idea so much, I had to get it up on the web.

The corporate environment is competitive, challenging and demanding. Not withstanding this observation, it is an environment that can teach an individual to learn and personally develop valuable skills that can be transferred to another vocation/job.

I have somewhat little experience in the corporate environment but I'm am close to forefront of the corporate domain. At present, I work in Operations, Planning and Analysis (OP&A) of course on a part-time basis since my studies demand full-time attendance and recognition. Just by the standard name of our division, you can immediately tell that our decisions and activities certainly have a bearing on the overall performance of other business units.

In terms of the hierarchy of our department, I am at the bottom of it. That doesn't mean that my job isn't paramount. There's no doubt it is. I work as an associate in the department, handling and controlling the activities of the operational dialler that concurrently runs when there active operators. We oversee two locations - one in Melbourne and one in Queensland. That's all I'll share, for now.

Since the start of my role in this department, I've come across a diverse range of individuals, from departmental leaders to other associates from other departments. It's fun and interesting.

The position sometimes entails an involvement of other business unit team leaders liasing with our personnel. Regular meetings are considered as important for maintaining a strong mutual relationship between certain departments. Team meetings are important in the fact that they provide a forum for team leaders and other people to track performance and to communicate separate objectives from each other. They can be also used to negotiate or standardise objectives in order to resolve certain issues.

In my experience in holding meetings (noting that I haven't held many meetings), these are naturally some of the many important aspects of holding a meeting:

Creating a structured and understandable agenda of actionable items - an agenda identifies areas of concern that need to be discussed and ideally, resolved.

Setting a definitive timeframe for the meeting and preparing the basis for those meetings - let there be no confusion as to how long and when these meetings are to be arranged. Simply put.

Set aside personal and professional differences - many of the time, meetings involve those who we know and converse with on a regular basis. These can sometimes affect how a meeting will play out.

Let the meeting act as a consultative forum - meetings are supposed to be a meeting of the 'minds', not a one-sided discussion. Everyone should have input during the meeting, and respect is a must.

Discuss the objectives each participant may have - objectives should be recorded or written down and treated with importance. These objectives are then discussed in subsequent meetings and as to how far they have been accomplished.

Meetings end with a last round of questioning - during any given meeting, not all questions may have been raised. Allowing any further questions before the dissolution of the meeting is beneficial for all parties.

There's heaps more, of course. These here are derived from a lot of common sense.

That's it from me. I can't think properly now. Byee.

A tell tale sign that you are on a boondoggle is when you talk too softly. The person on the other end will question why you aren't creating unnecessary work in an overtly loud and aggressive manner. Those around you will wonder why you aren't demanding meeting times to be changed at an inappropriate volume. Remember, it is better to error on the side of annoyance rather than create suspicion. Throw your secretary off by creating a number of ghost meetings with vendors/clients. Accomplish this with gmail pen names.

That said, don't over do it. You must, I repeat, must admit to having some level of enjoyment on the trip. Endless false complaining about being "so busy" and "back to back" will solidify your enemy's position and expose that you are overplaying your hand. Tossing out a small token such as "we had a nice cocktail hour" before an important business meeting should keep them happily chasing their tails while you play golf.

1. Latar Belakang

jaminan pemenuhan prinsip syariah

4. Prinsip-prinsip Dasar GCG

9. Contoh penerapan GCG pada Bank Syariah Mandiri

1. ACCOUNTABILITY (Akuntabilitas)

Beware always of men and women, bullies, tormentors, control freaks, persons, civil and public

Beware always of men and women, bullies, tormentors, control freaks, persons, civil and public servants, politicians, pastors, leaders, elders, who falsely do, will try to enslave you, oppress you, exploit you

Is 51:23 ..your tormentors {and} oppressors, those who said to you, Bow down, that we may ride {or} tread over you; and you have made your back like the ground and like the street for them to pass over.

(Prov 21:9 KJV) It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.

Bullies, abusers, liars, slanderers tend to be clearly immoral persons who try to enslave others uancceptably even if they profess to be Christian or what ever,,

>>My ex-husband smokes pot and drinks a lot, and I am told, so does his girlfriend. He once told me that I am too righteous because I don’t drink or do drugs, and I attend church.

and that was a verbal abuse if I have ever seen one..

so do thank God daily that he has now removed your from this abusive relationship..

and do ask Him, God to take all the tears away and he will.

(Psa 4:8 KJV) I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

(Rev 21:4 KJV) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

and there still can be a good life after divorce with God’s help…

Truly any type of abuse is unacceptable and anywhere too

and exposing it loudly in public as well as calling the police is the best way to deal with it for everyone’s benefit, the abuser included.

God himself clearly does not accept verbal, physical, or human rights abuses

(Mat 18:6 KJV) But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

(Mat 18:7 KJV) Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!

(Mat 18:8 KJV) Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.

No we ALL cannot STOP, take the ostrich approach under the guise of love to the definite bad acts of others, we as Christians are still called to be fruit inspectors of those who profess to be Christians ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY RARELY QUOTE IT in actual context OR LIVE THE BIBLE THEY CLAIM THEY BELIEVE IN-

(Gen 31:42 KJV) Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.

(Lev 19:17 KJV) Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

(Neh 5:7 KJV) Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, Ye exact usury, every one of his brother. And I set a great assembly against them.

(Psa 119:21 KJV) Thou hast rebuked the proud that are cursed, which do err from thy commandments.

(Prov 24:25 KJV) But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.

(Prov 27:5 KJV) Open rebuke is better than secret love.

(Eccl 7:5 KJV) It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

(Mat 17:18 KJV) And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.

(Mark 1:25 KJV) And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.

(Mark 4:39 KJV) And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

(Mark 8:33 KJV) But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

(1 Tim 5:20 KJV) Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

(2 Tim 4:2 KJV) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

(Titus 1:13 KJV) This witness is true. Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;

(Titus 2:15 KJV) These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

(Heb 12:5 KJV) And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:

(Rev 3:19 KJV) As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

"This is from the book by Patricia Evans http://andthenshecried.wordpress.com/2008/02/05/the-verbally-abusive-relationship-how-to-recognize-it-and-how-to-respond

Verbal abuse is a kind of battering which doesn’t leave evidence like physical abuse does. However, it can be just as painful, and recovery can take much longer. The victim of abuse lives in a gradually more confusing realm. In public she is with one man, in private he becomes another. Often, for the verbally abused woman (man), there is no witness to her reality and no one to understand her experiences. Friends and family continue to see her ex, the abuser, as a really good guy and, certainly, he agrees with them. The verbal abuser, while maintaining his charm with others, always takes his abuse behind closed doors. It is a means of holding power over his wife( husband) /partner.. Many women and some men leave a marriage and come back into the singles’ world with the diminished self-esteem that comes from a verbally abusive relationship. The fact that many of these women (men) have never even realized that they were being abused, makes it easy for them to enter another abusive relationship. A verbal abuser is an insecure person and immature person who is looking for power and control over another. In order to help you recognize abuse, remember that all forms of verbal abuse are methods of manipulating you for the purpose of establishing power over you. The following are some of the forms of verbal abuse the author helps you recognize.

Withholding: a purposeful, silent treatment.

Countering: a countering of your ideas, feelings, and perceptions, even going so far as to refute what he misconstrues you to have said.

Discounting–a putdown of you or something you hold dear.

Blocking and diverting–this is a sneaky, covert way of violating your dignity.

Accusation and blame: generally involves lies about the partner’s intentions, attitudes, and motives. The author states that accusation and blame is present in all verbally abusive relationships.

Judging and criticizing: lies about your personal qualities and performance.

Trivializing and undermining: abusive behavior which makes light of your work, your efforts, your interests, or your concerns. The abuser attempts to dilute meaning and value in your life. Undermining might occur when your partner laughs at you, for example, when you burn yourself cooking. It is also jokes at your expense. Undermining is occurring when you feel a “so-called joke” is mean rather than funny.

Name calling: no one has a right to call you degrading names. Name calling is verbal abuse.

Ordering: Telling you to do something, rather than asking, or making decisions for you or for the two of you without your input.

Forgetting and denial: the trickiest form of denial is forgetting. Become aware that forgetting is a form of denial that shifts all responsibility from the abuser to some “weakness of mind.”

Abusive anger: this seems to be closely linked to the need to “blow up,” to dominate, to control, to go one up, and to put down. Any time you are snapped at or yelled at, you are being abused.

Threatening: Physical threats and sexual threats aside, verbal threats are an effort at manipulation. For example, a threat to leave, stay out all night, or take you home immediately is a manipulation for power. The threat of “pending disaster” is designed to shatter the partner’s serenity as well as her boundaries.

If you counter the abuser or attempt to explain yourself, you will probably be met with such statements as, “I don’t want to hear it, get out of my face” or “Woman you don’t have the brains“, “B” You shouldn’t have said that to me“.

If you are in a brand-new relationship and see warning signs of verbal abuse, the author suggests you might be wise to let the relationship go. It is not likely that a man (woman) who needs to dominate and control will change easily, if at all. It is also likely that when the newness of the relationship wears off, he will become more abusive. Verbal abuse can become physical in time and physical abuse is always preceded by verbal abuse, according to Evans. If you are in a long-term relationship, you can respond to the abuser as the book suggests and soon discover for yourself whether or not your mate is willing to change and stop his abusive behavior.

“If you have been verbally abused in your relationship, you may have discovered that explaining and trying to understand have not improved your relationship. Therefore, I recommend that you respond in a new way–a way that will make an emotional, psychological, and intellectual impact upon your mate.”

The abuser in your relationship may change when he finds that you do know when you are being abused, that you have set limits, that you mean what you say, and that you will not take behavior you don’t like.

If the man ( or sadly too often now a women) in your relationship remains abusive, it is not only not your fault," it is your responsibility to deal with it, make it public, call the police too.

Any person cannot still fight with you of you leave his or her presences, even forever.. and there is still a good life after a failed marriage now too. I practise what I preach and often now too.

The first spouse, love seems is always the best one in our false pride.. and I know what that is like too.. WE SEEM ALL TO REPEAT OUR BAD TASTE, VALUES.. When they let a person out a prison they generally have a rule not to let them return to his old environment, past home, for five years.. otherwise they will be under the same old bad habits, dispositions too..

NOTE I lost once everything I had owned.. still next I replaced it all with the same things, even though I never used most of them, old habits and bad tastes DO die hard still too for almost all of us..

Now still reporting publically the abusers, and calling the POLICE TOO most often solves the abuse problem the best.. for if the evil persons do not feel real negative personal consequences, REAL negative public exposures, they really have no reasons to change their bad habits next and likely then never will.

I rightfully too tend to openly expose all abusers, all bad people, all bad churches, all bad politicians, all bad corporations that I come across, and often and I also do do call the police, regulating authorities often and demand they all be fired, be put in jail too.

I was also still surprised how popular this post now is too.
