Apesar do CD "Invincible Summer" estar previsto só para dia 22 de setembro, Common fez uma audição especial no Reino Unido, com amostras da maior parte das músicas que estarão no no álbum (8 de 10). O DJ Semtex foi um dois convidados e eis a sua análise das faixas, traduzida por eu mesma:

UNIVERSAL MIND CONTROL
Tenho tocado esta música a meses. É demais, ele disse que é inspirada nas baladas do Reino Unido.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT (FEAT PHARRELL)
Um dos melhores tributos ao Notorious B.I.G. Ele arrasa, não existe dúvida de que ele é um dos melhores letristas da atualidade e não, ele naõ escreveu o verso do Pharrell.

THE GLADIATOR

Hip Hop rústico e dançante. É bem similar a faixa "I Got Right Ta" (do Cd Eletric Circus), em relação ao balanço, e os Neptunes produziram a batida. É o Common dando o máximo de si mesmo no mic. Eu odiaria ser um MC quando ele está por perto. Pode ser facilmente classificada como uma das melhores do álbum, você vai amar essa música.

CHANGES
O Common disse que espera que esta seja a música tema da vitória de Barack Obama , quando ele for eleito presidente, então dá para ter uma idéia sobre o que ela fala. É uma música muito inspiradora que conta sobre a necessidade de mudanças no mundo e nos EUA. A filha do Common recita um poema no final da música.

WHAT A WORLD (FEAT. CHESTER FRENCH)
Produzida pelos Neptunes. Essa música tem um clima tipo, o hip hop encontra o rock. É boa, mas muito grande para o público tradicional de hip hop e rap. Será muito tocada nas baladas aqui do Reino Unido.

SEX SUGAR
Neptunes na batida de novo. Parecida com ‘Give It Up’ do Twista, essa é pra balada. Common faz um rap direcionado ás mulheres. É legal mas eu prefiro quando ele rima sobre coisas menos suaves.

MAKE MY DAY (FEAT CEE-LO)
MrDJ na batida.
É absolutamente fantástica! Muito futurista e de outro nível, se é que vocês me entendem. Está um nível acima de tudo que ouvimos hoje em dia. Eu odeio fazer analogias mas causa a mesma impressão que a música "Millionaire" da Kelis part. Andre 3000.

PUNCH DRUNK LOVE (FEAT KANYE WEST)
Se eu não estou errado , tem a participação do Kanye no refrão. Eu preciso ouvi-la de novo antes de avaliar, alguém tirou minha atenção enquanto ela estava tocando.

Ainda existem mais duas músicas para serem adicionadas ao album mas parece que vai ser muito bom. Considerando que é seu oitavo trabalho, Common só perde para o Jay Z em termos de consistência em relação a bons albuns.

O vídeo a seguir mostra o Common cantando um pedaço de "Gladiator" nesta mesma audição, parece boa mas o jeito é esperar. Aí vai:

Beast made quite a first appearance. Wolf and Justice helped to lower his cage from the rafters. Beast (Matt Morgan) growls and roars the entire time. He does a great job of acting like an 'out-of-control' animal, if you ask me. He does a lot of heavy breathing and rips his clothes off (not all of them, he leaves on his furry underwear). Oh, did you you think I meant exclusive to here? No, it's exclusive to the Telegraph. It covers his workaholism and the glut of material he's released in the past few years (albums, soundtracks, other stuff) and some upcoming projects--no new album is mentioned, but that's to be expected as he's recently released two (Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! and Grinderman).

Fans will want to read the whole thing, but there were two items of particular interest to me. The first is that the interviewer believes that Cave is working on a new novel. I read his first (and so far only) novel, And the Ass Saw the Angel, almost a decade-and-a-half back and really liked it, but it was so long ago that I don't know how reliable my memories or judgment are.

And then there's this:

There have also been scores for a handful of stage productions and at least two (as yet) unproduced screenplays, his original Death of a Ladies' Man and a stab at Gladiator II for Ridley Scott (rejected because it was too surreal).

Well, gee, Ridley, what did you expect?

I hated Gladiator, and a script by Nick Cave is just about the only thing that could have gotten my butt in a seat for Gladiator II. Of course, such a thing is obviously too awesome to ever actually happen.

Estava eu ali a fazer zapping, as usual, quando me apareceu uma novela à frente. Só consegui ver, uma gaja a salvar um indivíduo. Eu aposto o que quiserem, em como no final da dita, eles estão juntos. A falta de originalidade nos programas de televisão, até mete medo. Eu desafio-vos, a ver o início de uma série e a tentar adivinhar o fim. Tenho a certeza, que em duas, ou três, tentativas, acabam por acertar. E no CSI ? Todos sabemos, que no final a/o gaja/o é apanhada/o. O que me provoca mesmo grandes dissabores é no meu querido cinema. Há quanto tempo, é que eu não vejo um filme verdadeiramente original ? Ui, até tenho medo de tentar descobrir. Qualquer pessoa, está apta, neste momento, a adivinhar como é que o filme vai decorrer. Podemos facilmente, adivinhar o que é que vai acontecer a seguir e a seguir e a seguir. É tão chato isto. E quando vamos ao cinema ? É dinheiro deitado ao lixo, literalmente. Parece, que todas as ideias e histórias foram "gastas", já não há nada a fazer. Dantes o bom da fita, salvava-se sempre. Hoje, de vez em quando, lá morre. Mas, também é fácil ver quando vai morrer, ou não. Um que me surpreendeu bastante, foi o Gladiator. Nunca pensei que ele morresse. Mas lá está, apesar de o herói morrer, gostei do filme. Porque no final deste, tiraram-me o tapete debaixo dos pés. Só por isso, já mereceu ser visto. Mas, meus amigos, não pensem que isto só acontece na televisão. Há mais, muito mais. Bastar observar, por exemplo, o engate de hoje em dia. Sem charme, sem originalidade, sem nada. Tão seco e sem piada, como a pessoa que bate o coro. Mas deixando o engate de lado, o que me entristece mesmo, é no cinema. Adorando eu filmes, fico bastante desapontado com esta onda de filmes, que por aí vem, porque, apesar de não os ter visto, já sei como acabam.

The Unwritten Rules of Beirut (or Beer Pong)

I’m not entirely sure if anyone is really reading this blog and if there are in fact humans reading my musings, I have no clue what their age range is. But if I could bank on one thing, I would imagine that many of you, if you exist, have played drinking games in your time. Whether this is after college, in college, high school, or a pre-K rager, the most popular is usually the famed “beirut” or “beer pong”. There is a set of unwritten rules to this game that are not usually explained by the person paying rent so one is not necessarily able to ascertain this particular set of rules. I suppose that is why they are unwritten. These rules are often not discussed by the mass of party goers, but if you follow these simple rules, everyone’s beirut/beer pong experience will be much more delightful.

Don’t argue about the name – Nobody gives a shit that you alone know the true reason of why the game should be called beirut and not beer pong. Yes, the game was invented at Dartmouth in the 1980’s during the United States’ conflict with Lebanon, but nobody gives a shit. People are on a quest for glory while getting really wasted on the way; not preparing for “Who Wants to be Not Get Laid-and-be-a-Douchebag-aire” You’re going to turn a lot of heads for the wrong reasons and you will not be given any free Natural Ice by the nice people throwing the party.
Don’t celebrate excessively – We understand that there is tremendous dexterity involved in launching a tiny sphere eight feet into a cup while moderately buzzed, and that there is a lot on the line, such as whether or not men will revere you and whether Veronica will sleep with you or Archie the douche bag, but cut the shit when it comes to celebrating. This includes chest bumps, high fives, fake head butts, real head butts, hand jobs, special handshakes with you and your roommate, or screaming “Yeah baby! Woo!” People will hate you and root for you to lose. If Gladiator and 8 Mile have taught us anything, it’s that the crowd is the most important part of any contest… and that having sex in automobile factories is actually fairly hot.
Always follow house rules – This is not your house. This is someone else’s house. If they pay the rent and heating bills, then they are always right when it comes to the game. One should never say, “Well… what if we play (insert rules you like)”, or “(insert your rules) is better”. This is not your prerogative. You are a prick otherwise. It is, however, acceptable to ask what the house rules are and to clarify if there are any special rules such as NBA Jam rules, pull cup vs. leave cup, or the house policy on bouncing. Speaking of bouncing; don’t be that guy when it comes to bouncing. Everything in moderation.
Beer is for drinking – It boggles my mind that this rule actually needs to be fleshed out but, as they say, here goes nothing. Whether you are playing at a friends house who has been kind enough to supply booze, at a random party of which you do not know the hosts and have paid an absurdly cheap cover charge to essentially drink free all night, or are hosting a party yourself and are charging the cover and making out like a bandit, the fact remains that the beer is there to drink, not be left out. Too many times after an all night banger someone has to clean up everyone’s wounded soldiers. The only clean up that should be done is of empty cups and whatever dignity there is lift from the respective parties involved. The very bottom line of this rule is that: regardless of how many cups are on your side, if you lose the game, you must finish drinking every last one of those cups. Some rules state that the loser must finish all un-drank cups on the table – both sides – however this stipulation falls under the house rules clause.
Never underestimate girls – This is more of a personal survival tool than a rule. Some of the most terrible upsets have taken place at the hands of a femme fatale(s) . As men we often forget the competitive fortitude of women because they used to spend most of the day in front of a hot stove making us food, but after Title IX, shit got real. Let’s put it this way, do you really think you could beat Lisa Leslie in basketball solely based on the fact that she is a chick and you are a dude. If the girl’s got skills, then the girl’s got skills. Even though most of them lean when they shoot, but that is neither here nor there.
No covert douchebaggery - With the amount of cups on the table and the mere fact that there are four people playing the game, it becomes inevitable that when a shot is taken it will pass through an area that was previously occupied by a cup. Enter the Covert Douchebag. At this juncture, there’s a brief but palpable silence at the table as everyone waits for the covert douchebag to make his appearance. He will disguise his first comment, as with subsequent comments, as good-hearted ribbing done between comrades. In most cases it comes out as, “Oh man, you already hit that cup.” Did I? Did I really? Do you not think I already fucking noticed? I don’t suffer from hysterical blindness and need your pop collared, Abercrombie wearing, sweatband around your forearm sporting ass to fill me in on which cups are still available as a viable option for targeting. I hope you fall and shatter your clavicle.

Another comment that falls under the category of Covert Douchebaggery is, “Man, I’m so thirsty, I could use one of these cups.” We understand that you have to mask your semi-derogatory insults as indirect comments because you’re too miserable at the game to prove your worth with results; but for the sake of sportsmanship, keep your shit to yourself. We also understand that you want to get drunk. This is in fact a drinking game. The only way this would not be the case is if you were not drinking and your friend is “drinking for both of you” because beer has too many “calories” or you were “driving”. There is no scientific proof that calories or driving exist. They are like global warming, evolution, and the female orgasm.

What one can take away from this is that these rules are indeed universal. People will come and go into parties, but douchebags are eternal. There will always be those that may break the Unwritten Rules of Beirut, but if you take this guide to heart, begin practicing it at any party, event, regalia, etc., we can help rid the world of obnoxious people that are SO fuckin thirsty that they have to explain it to us every five minutes. For some time, I've been struggling to find some valueable shows to watch. I stopped watching CSI for instance after the strike, simply because I realised it was crap :)

But I've stuck with House all the way, and I also watch all the talkshows (Stewart, Colbert, Leno, Conan, Letterman and Craig Ferguson.) as often as I am able to. (It isn't really up to me.)

I recently got the urge to download the NBC show "American Gladiators". Not really knowing what I could expect. (You know, most of the american "gameshows" are either very lame (as in cheesy) or just simply boring (*Thinks of Celebrity family feud.*))

But I was suprised when I watched episode nine of the second season of american gladiators. It was actually pretty awesome (Except for all the cheesy chit-chat talking, which kinda ruins it alittle.)

But the massive gladiator men and the gorgeous women was enough to keep me interested.

I normally don't like "muscle-chicks", but I got to admit that some of the girls on the show are pretty damn awesome.

Jennifer "Phoenix" Widerstrom and Gina "Crush" Carano is simply awesome!

Jennifer is a former NPC figure (Bodybuilder/fitness competition). Have a look-si:

Gina "Crush" Carano is a MMA-fighter (Mixed martial arts). Achieved a 12-1-1 Muay Thai record.

Pretty impressive, and she sure is STUNNING! (Cheesy line incoming: I sure have a crush on Crush!)

New American Gladiator BEAST

Tunisko - Sahara 1. deň

Oddych pri mori sme zamenili za pobyt v autobuse, našťastie klimatizovanom. Čakal nás dvojdňový výlet na Saharu. Khamel (nie Camel-ťava) - náš tuniský sprievodca bol bombový. Nebol problém s dorozumievaním. Keďže jeho tec - diplomat - pôsobil v Čechách a Khamel tu študoval, rozprával po česky. Jeho výklad bol excelentný. Jeho flegmatické: "Nespěte mi tu, to je drahé spaní!!!" sa ozvalo po autobuse niekoľkokrát. Ale mal pravdu. Za výlet sme si zaplatili a teraz nám malo z neho niečo ujsť, len pretože sme zaspali... Upozornil nás však, že na spánok bude času dosť, keď pôjdeme cez holú púšť, kde nie je nič k videniu.

Prvá zastávka - EL JEM - tretie najväčšie koloseum po Ríme a Verone. Už z diaľky je uchvacujúce. Zaplatíme poplatok za používanie foťáka 1.000 DT, čiže 1 tuniský dinár a plní očakávania vstupujeme. Vo vnútri na nás EL JEM dýchne niekoľko storočí. Auditórium - tak tu bojovali s levmi gladiátori! O svoj život tu však prišli aj bojovníci, ktorí v koloseu ukončovali vojny. Po boji vždy koloseum obnovili zo zničených kameňov, a tak je tvár EL JEMu rôzna. Jedna, tá staršia a pre mňa pôsobivejšia, je z konca 2. a začiatku 3. storočia - viď obrázok - a náprotivok (viditeľne novšia časť) z 18. storočia. Cesta na najvyššie poschodie je strastiplná. Vedú tam strmé schody (podľa delegáta Khamela vhodné len pre masochistov). Každú chvíľu máte pocit, že sa skotúľate a dolámete si všetky kosti v tele. Ale výstup sa oplatil! Vidieť odtiaľto celé mestečko v okolí EL JEMu s rozľahlou púštnou krajinou v pozadí. EL JEM však nie je len turistická atrakcia. Ešte aj dnes je každoročne využívané na festival klasickej hudby, ktorej však veľa tunisanov nerozumie, pre vynikajúcu akustiku. Tak, koloseum máme za sebou! Čo nás čaká ďalej?

Cestou na púšť zvanú SAHARA prechádzame menšími aj väčšími mestečkami. SFAX - jedno z najväčších priemyselných prístavov Tuniska vidíme len z autobusu. Mahres - naša zdravotná zastávka. V modrobielej reštaurácii si povystierame zo sedenia ubolené údy a hor sa do GABES. GABES - prímorská oáza, naša prvá "live" oáza. Človek neverí, že toto miesto sa označuje oázou. Keď sa povie oáza, okamžite sa mi vybaví skupinka najviac 10 paliem uprostred so studňou alebo malým jazierkom. A tu, čuduj sa svete, stojíte na pahorku a kukáte dolu na hotel s bazénom a nespočetné množstvo paliem. S nechápavým výrazom na tvári nastupujeme do autobusu a dumáme, aké prekvapenia nám tento výlet ešte pripraví. Vyrážame smer MATMATA, ale o tom až nabudúce ...

I am perhaps the worst blogger in the world. Yes. I know. Sorry. Anyway, last Wednesday was my birthday. It was cool. I went to school, nearly fell asleep, and then went out to Dim Sum with Mum and Phillip. He brought along some of his friends. It was...not something I'm used to. I don't usually converse when I eat, as I'm usually shoveling food down my throat. [good stuff]. Went home, did a little posting on thepurseforum, by far my most favorite forum in the history of Izabelle. Later on we went to Happy House--it seems to be THEE place to go when we celebrate for any occasion--Birthdays, etsy 500, 1000, etc...

Hmm...I still haven't received my Married to the MOB shirt yet. I'm pretty sad about that, as he said he would ship it out on July 4th, but of course being a holiday, I figured July 5th...Well...It's July 14, and I don't have my shirt. well, it's 2:07 in the morning, but still. I want my friggin shirt.

What else...I'll just post pics of my recent purchases. Not recent, actually, a lot of this stuff I got a while back, but since I'm needing to post stuff with pictures, here we go.

My MBMJ Kingpin Strike Bag! Been wanting this bag since it came out, just got it like two months ago. WOOH. Wasn't even searching for it. Honestly, totally forgot about it. Just popped up on EvilBay, and i got it right away. Reeked of smoke, though it claimed to come from a smoke free home. But being the person I am, I left positive feedback. Not necessary to rock the boat!

And following the whole 'gladiator sandal' trend, I really wanted a pair. Like. REALLY. I was looking at street style blogs, and came across a picture of someone with a LOVELY pair of gladiator sandals. After questioning on the purse forum, someone informed me they were by Cynthia Vincent, pictured here:

Well, after seeing the price of $405, and they were sold out anyway, I figured I'd look around. And what better place than forever21.com? I figured [i do a lot of figuring haha] that this is a trend. It probably won't last that long, just like the whole legging trend, and by the time my $24.80 'blanea wedges' wear out, the trend will be over. A small price to pay for being fashionable, right? These are mine:

And as you can see, were 'inspired' by Balenciaga! All the more reason! Another little sidenote--been wanting an 06 grenat city. Showed the bags to 'my people' (mum, aunt, sister) and the first two said ew, 'i don't like it' and 'for that price you could get an LV or something'. The latter just said, 'eh'. So... begins my journey..to save and save and save. I could get the LV mahina, or about two chanel flaps. Of course I won't get TWO, but, just for an idea of price....haha When I can afford ONE chanel, I'll decide whether I want to buy one, or wait a little A LOT longer to get the MAHINA... Mum doesn't believe I can wait that long, as I just bought $60 something dollars worth of clothes from american apparel...I'll post those when I get them. This is a pretty lengthy post. haha. Gladiator o sandalo ultrapiatto?

Ne avevamo già ampliamente parlato prima che iniziasse l'estate vera e propria; sulle passerelle ce li avevano proposti più stilisti e molti avevano fatto una smorfia alla vista di quei sandali, da molti definiti con un pò di disprezzo: più che da gladiatore da frate.

Ed, invece, le più temerarie hanno accolto questo nuovo sandalo con entusiasmo, una scarpa capace di rendere più grintoso il look neo-hippie o bohemienne che spopola quest'anno.

Se proprio non si riesce a scegliere questo tipo di scarpa, è sempre in auge, il sandalo ultrapiatto, magari infradito, ma con laccetto alla caviglia (abolite, invece, le ciabatte in stile da spiaggia), per rendere confortevole una scarpa, non proprio elegantissima, ma fresca e più trendy se scelta nei colori dell'oro e dell'argento.

I'm surprised. I thought that Wolf and Crush would be the winners, maybe because they are my favorites. Why does Hurricane have so many votes? Have I missed something about him? I had no idea he was so popular. Can someone give me some info on this? I'm really curious.

Results so far: The male gladiators have 149 votes counted and Hurricane is in the lead with 72% of them. The female gladiators have 123 votes total. Phoenix is in the lead with 57% of the votes and Crush is next with 27%.

These sandals are THE shoes of the summer. And I have to admit, I went crazy looking for them as soon as I saw them on Carrie in the SATC Movie. Of course, she had on the Dior version, Dior Extreme Gladiator Sandals, (left) which retail at $770. The Madden version, Steve Madden Madalynn Gladiator Sandals (right), are much less expensive at very low $109.95 ("very low" compared to the Dior ones!). I looked all over Bend for the Maddens and when I couldn't find them, I looked around for some that at least looked similar to them. I looked all over: Famous Footwear, The King of Sole, Ross,TJ Maxx...no luck. So I went to my favorite online shopping store, Victoria's Secret (they are my fave because the sizes are always reliable--which is a MUST when you are shopping online). VS carries Steve Madden shoes, as well as other name brands, such as Colin Stuart, Jessica Simpson, Guess, just to name a few. But unfortunately, they did not have the Madalynns. But as I was browsing around, they did have Colin Stuart Strappy Platform Sandals (below) for the clearance price of $49.99. It was love at first sight! And indeed, I had to have the python print ones (Hello, Lover!). It felt kinda good to know I was going to be a little different than everyone else...

One Rocky movie a week was enough to boost benefits, study says

LONDON - Just a few more Rocky movies each week may protect men from prostate cancer, British researchers reported on Wednesday.

The researchers believe a chemical in the brain, once enhanced by the popular Rocky series films sparks hundreds of genetic changes, activating some genes that fight cancer and switching off others that fuel tumors, said Ricardo Milton, a biologist at Britain's Institute of Genetic-Film Research.

There is plenty of evidence linking the successful Sylvester Stalone movies to reduced cancer risk. But the study published in the Public Library of Genetic journal PLoG mentioned the first human trial investigating the potential biological mechanism at work, Milton added in a telephone interview.

"Everybody says, “Rocky IV just makes me feel good, but nobody can tell us why," said Milton, who led the study. "Our study shows why watching Rocky III makes you feel like even you could beat Mr. T."

Prostate is the second-leading cancer killer of men after lung cancer. Each year, some 680,000 men worldwide are diagnosed with the disease and about 220,000 will die from it.

Milton and colleagues split into two groups, each with 24 men with pre-cancerous lesions that increase prostate cancer risk and had them watch either (group 1) Rocky or (group 2) Legaly Blonde II each week for a year.

Rocky watcher’s genes changed
The researchers also took tissue samples over the course of the study and found that men who watched Rocky showed hundreds of changes in genes known to play a role in fighting cancer. Evidence suggests the world renowned films increase the body’s understanding of expert fighting techniques…maybe even give it some pointers.

The benefit would likely be the same in other fighting films, such as UFC Midnight Brawl 2006 that increase in the body a compound called isothiocyanate. Other films suspected including Fight Club, Lion Heart, Ledgend of the Pitfighter, Gladiator (1992), The Warriors, Enter the Dragon, Best of the Best, and Bloodsport. Some evidence even suggests that the fighting Genre video games also showed some benefits they added.

Rocky, however, increases a particularly powerful type of the compound called sulforaphane, which the researchers think gives an extra cancer-fighting kick, Milton said.

"When people get cancer some genes are switched off and some are switched on," he said. "What Rocky seems to be doing is switching on genes which prevent cancer developing and switching off other ones that help it spread."

The Rocky movie watchers showed about 400 to 500 of the positive genetic changes with men carrying a gene called GSTM1 enjoying the most benefit. About half the population has the gene, Milton said.

The researchers did not track the men long enough to see who got cancer but said the findings bolster the idea that just a few more Rocky movies each week can make a big difference.

It is also likely that these movies work the same way in other parts of the body and probably protect people against a whole range of cancers, and maybe even E.D, Milton added.

"You don't need a huge change in your diet," he said. "Just a few more Rocky movies and it will make a big difference."
