I've spent the last 4 days pet sitting for a friend and had not had access to the internet during that time hence the lack of updates.

I have yet to develop those shots from brighton (-1)

however, I did take some more shots, a whole 3rd roll of film to add to my develop que (+1)

I also had an adventure with Meeshi recently and borrowed her camera for some shots so hopefully I can get those from her soon and get them up here.

Goals for the next 7 days include developing 3 rolls of film, cleaning those photos up and getting them posted, snagging the shots from the other night with Meeshi and getting those posted, having another adventure with Meeshi and hopefully getting some good shots, planning some sort of impromptu halloween creep show shoot, and seeing what i can set up for the Six Shooter halloween bash.

Whew! i'm going to be busy!

Oh! I also have some shots from last month that i took on a friend camera that I need to get from her as well as cleaning up the rest of the shots on her camera since she's slightly camera/computer/photoshop illiterate. heh. ^_^

I promise more updates soon but until then check out the new posts over at Meeshi Sense. Meeshi just put up 2 or 3 new sets that have some really fantastic shots in there!!!

Do you ever feel like you're trying to find something, like yourself? Just who are you and what do you really want?

Sometimes, I think I know, and other times, I know I don't know. Some days, I wish I could be one of those people who just always knew they wanted to be a doctor, teacher, or lawyer - you know the type, and live happily ever after pursuing and living that dream.

My dreams, on the other hand are quite abstract and shall we say, a little fuzzy. Clearly, I dream of moments and circumstances - what makes my heart go aflutter are the intangibles of a moving target that changes as my learning changes. Sometimes, these intangibles drive others NUTS. "Just why can't you speak in clear words about chairs and things? Why does it have to be abstract IDEAS?" Ha ha.

What I needed 10 years ago, is far different than what I need now, or 10 years from now. Not even - 10 months from now. I keep learning, growing and changing along with my new target, for the truth is, I keep attaining and surpassing those close-by targets and then find the view is a little different as I head towards new ones. I wish I could see the final target - just what is it? Yet, it is very possible there is no end because there are so many possibilities and opportunities that my brain is not able to understand.

Sometimes I seem to get a clearer picture, and then just as quickly, I'll lose the moment - just what was that clear, defined picture of, and how do I get it back?

For those who always had an end-goal - I'm happy for you. For those like me - it can be a frustrating but also enjoyable journey of contrasts, learning and agility training. I wonder what's up ahead and how it will change my life.

- Daisy

Mda. N-am decat 24 de ani, cred ca e de inteles cand o dau in bara, nu? :)).

... in termeni mai abstracti asa, tre sa fie asta ...!

Evident, fiecare scop atins, sa mai insemne inca un pas in implinirea viziunii noastre in viata.

- Ce vrei sa realizezi in urmatorii 3 ani?

Out of topic:

How many times do we tell ourselves that we want to do something, reach something or achieve somethi

How many times do we tell ourselves that we want to do something, reach something or achieve something but end up doing nothing about it? There are times that we begin things that would only last for a day or two...if we are more enthusiastic...maybe a week or two. Now, I am talking about myself here who always start something and end up with nothing or a partially finished product. And that goes to my wanting to lose weight.

A few months back, my purple, leather-bound journal reminded me of things that I wanted to achieve...my goal...which I wrote about in this post. That was in July. I was able to print and post the Lose Weight Sign but it got blown off by the fan after 2 weeks or so, after which my enthusiasm got blown away too. It was really hard for me because of the whole diet, and since I am the one cooking, I end up doing a lot of tasting, etc.

Last month, even without the sign telling me what I wanted, I decided to try once more. I dragged my sister to Himawari Apartment Hotel on Sisowath Quay to inquire about their fitness club membership. I told myself that aside from working out, we will learn how to swim and play tennis. That is a lot to do but we were very enthusiastic and ready to do it. The place was beautiful with a great view of the river while working out. They also had aerobics and dance classes for a minimal fee. The membership fee was $80 a month per person which would include unlimited use of the gym and swimming pool, tennis court which we can use as well as long as we book it for an hour each time. There was no limit of how many times we can use the court. We can also pay a coach $10 per hour to teach us how to play. We were ready to sign up so we asked for a form each. We asked to look at their tennis court booking form and it was swamped! They only had one tennis court and our enthusiasm about the place started to wane. We told them we'll think about it and left.

We were a bit down when we left the place and thought about just going to Phnom Penh Hotel where we used to go. Membership fee there was also $80 but they did not have a tennis court and their fitness instructor wasn't much help to us the last time but they did have a Steam and Sauna Room which made us retain it on our list. VIP Club was also a place where we could go to. Their membership fee was only $60 a month with a swimming pool, several tennis courts and Steam and Sauna Rooms and Massage room as well. But they were not as clean as those in the hotels and we were not really too happy about that. So we thought we would just enroll there as a last resort.

As we went out of Himawari, we thought of checking out Hotel Cambodiana which was just next door. It's a beautiful hotel with a great view of the river as well. I know they have a swimming pool and tennis court as well as a gym but was not sure whether their membership fees were affordable or not but we still went anyway. There was nothing wrong about asking. As we went inside their gym, we saw that it was only a small place. We were still enthusiastic and asked about their fees...it was $56 a month. We were ecstatic, far lower than VIP. They have a swimming pool too and not one but two tennis courts and a third one being constructed. Yey!!! There was a down side though, they did not have a Steam or Sauna room. But we thought about it and we decided to enroll there, it was a far cry from VIP, too...in a hotel setting. We signed up, paid our membership fees and informed them that we will be back the next day. We were skipping when we left.

That was last month. On Saturday, we renewed our membership because we were quite satisfied. We are missing the Sauna and Steam Room but it was ok. The staff are helping us a lot and were guiding us on what we should do. We have been going to the gym almost everyday and though we haven't lost a noticeable amount of weight yet but we have noticed that we are building our stamina and we are enjoying so much of our time here. Only Sis has learned how to swim already, I am still scared but can now go from one end of the pool to the other...crosswise...hehe!

Last week, they started an aerobics class every Monday and Wednesday and we have joined that too and are enjoying. The Latin Dance Class has been temporarily postponed because they have closed off the part where the Dance Studio is. But from what we heard they were building something else...drumroll please....Steam and Sauna Rooms plus additional shower rooms! YEY!!! I'm sooo happy.

We bought our tennis racquets yesterday and we are planning our Tennis Lessons on Thursday. Why not today? Today is Aerobics Day...:) That's why we are really on our way to losing weight.

This is really nerdy, but I must write about my excitement this week. I finally talked to one of the attorneys who loves figuring out Bluebook citations and broke the news about the library's newest citation wiki. She was totally excited to hear about it! I asked her to participate in it and ask all her citation crew to be involved. She agreed and will meet with me sometime this week so I can show her how to use it. I am really happy that she's open to this new tool. I really think it will be a great guide for new associates and summer associates. It can be a very helpful tool now--for everyone who's still confused about citations.

My challenge is to present the wiki in a way that it is very easy to understand. I guess my fear is that I will freak this attorney out by making her think that it is too complicated to add info and make changes into our internal wiki. But, I tried it for the first time this Monday and I didn't freak out...therefore she shouldn't freak out either, right? It didn't seem all that hard to use. Wish me luck! I will try to make it as easy as possible.

This rule was only broken ONCE after a month, and that was only to celebrate my diet's monthsary. :)

I never knew I could last this long after trying this diet again after 2 years. :) But I'm proud. My only motivation was the fact that I really want to lose weight. And now that I've achieved my target date, it's now time to start Phase 2 of my diet - No Dinner Diet!

Not eating rice was difficult enough. For sure not eating dinner will be even more challenging. Again, I'll try doing it for a month - and see if it affects my health. Because before, when I had this no-rice diet, I used to faint all the time. I was hypoglycemic then. My blood sugar was low because I wasn't breaking down any from my minimum intake of carbohydrates. This time, I've been compensating for my carbs with pastas, noodles, bread and potatoes. Moreover, I'm also not missing out on any meals, and I still have my snacks. A lot of people had been telling me that this diet has no effect whatsoever because I still eat a lot. In fact, I find this diet effective because I can now have lighter meals and be contented unlike before. Rice can really make us feel so full, and I also break it down quickly. So whenever I feel that I'm not as full anymore, I immediately think I have to eat because I'm going hungry.

These days, I'm getting contented with light meals. :) Oh well, except that time of the month when my hormones go crazy and then I get PMS. I never could really actualize my diet at that point.

I really hope that the no dinner diet, commonly known as after-six diet, would work and help me lose more inches and pounds!

I'll also try to have a better sleeping patter so that I will wake up early and have some time for exercises!:)

During the summer, I set a pretty aggressive weight loss goal for myself. And without bragging, I can say that I've made tremendous progress so far. I've tried to do it the right way: increasing the intensity of my exercise, changing my eating habits, and trying to get more rest.

But here's my problem: I hit a plateau.

Despite my disciplined efforts, my body settled into a weight, and I've been at this point for nearly 5 weeks. And to be quite honest with you, this is very frustrating. I'm still working hard, still watching my diet, and no movement on the scale.

Frustrated, I talked to the people at my gym, and what they told me relieved some of the frustration. The reality is that our bodies are always trying to achieve homeostasis -- a physical equilibrium that your body craves. Even with all the changes I made to get me to this point, my body got acclimated to my routine. Yes, even our bodies desire to find a comfortable place and stay there. (And this frustration often causes people to quit and go back to their bad habits.)

Long story short, the only way to break beyond the plateau and move forward to the ultimate goal is to CHANGE THE ROUTINE.

I've changed the exercises that I do. I started a boxing routine instead of the elliptical machine for cardio. And I've even started taking a zumba dance class. And these changes in the routine have started producing results again.

The other aspects of our lives function in the same way. Don't get stuck on the plateau. Make the necessary adjustments in your life so that you can achieve your ultimate goal!

by Susan Patterson

Everyone has a goal weight in mind. Sometimes when we’re dieting we get so caught up on the desired end result that each day we forget to rejoice in the small miracles that happen on our journey. Don’t obsess over your goal weight. Set small short-term goals. The Jerusalem Diet can help shift the focus from that final number to the daily changes that occur along the way.

The plan is pretty simple, and you don’t need a lot of fancy exercise equipment or expensive food to lose. There are two types of eating patterns, one called “fat” and the other “normal.” Make sure that you have a calendar and scale before you begin. When you start, you want to weigh yourself in the morning and write down your weekly goal weight for the next few months. Simply subtract one pound each week and write that as your goal.

To decide which kind of eating plan you will follow, you must weight yourself every morning. If you are equal to or below your goal weight for the week it is a normal day. Anything above your goal means it’s a fat day. On normal days, you can eat whatever you like without worrying about exercise. For the fat days, you can only eat fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts. You can’t drink anything but water and have to exercise for at least one hour on these days. Many people have reported success with this diet, as it requires a daily shift in habits. Some even experience quick weight loss at a higher rate than one pound a week, though that’s all the diet requires.

This diet is rather simple to implement and can be used in conjunction with other plans. It doesn’t promote any radical theories like food combining or no carbohydrates, but a gradual change in habits that lead to permanent weight loss. By allowing you to make your own choices most of the time, the goal is for you to naturally choose what’s best for you based on the results you see. If hunger is a problem, try using an appetite suppressant like hoodia to help make it through those fat days.

1. MENYALAHKAN ORANG LAIN

Katanya lu paling kencang". "Lha dia goalnya untuk tetap hidup sih, survive, lha gua goalnya untuk fun aja sih". Kalau "GOAL" kita hanya untuk "FUN", isi waktu aja, ya hasilnya cuma terengah-engah saja.

4. MEMPUNYAI "GOAL", TAPI NGAWUR MENCAPAINYA

Kalau kita menghindari proses, ya nggak matang, kalaupun matang ya dikarbit. Jadi, tidak ada tuh jalan pintas. Pemain bulutangkis Indonesia bangun jam 5 pagi, lari keliling Senayan, melakukan smesh 1000 kali. Itu bukan jalan pintas. Nggak ada orang yang leha-leha tiap hari pakai sarung, terus tiba- tiba jadi juara bulu tangkis. Nggak ada ! Kalau anda disuruh taruh uang 1 juta, dalam 3 minggu jadi 3 juta, masuk akal nggak tuh ? Nggak mungkin !. Karena hal itu melawan kodrat.

6. MENGAMBIL JALAN TERLALU PANJANG, TERLALU SANTAI
Kalau kecepatan dia cuma 50 km/jam, ya cuma ngabis-ngabisin avtur aja, muter-muter aja. Lha kalau jalannya, runwaynya lurus anda cuma pakai kecepatan 50 km/jam, ya nggak bisa take-off, malah nyungsep iya. Iya kan ?

10. MENGHIPNOTIS DIRI DENGAN KESUKSESAN SEMU
Biasa disebut Pseudo Success Syndrome.

I'm a regular reader of the blogs attached to SBrunning.org. They are so well written that I think how can I compete with that. I might as well mention that these are written by the same people who are faster than me in every race, every training run...how can I compete with that. I came to the realization that writing, like most things in life is not a competition to be won or lost, but an adventure, a journey into the unknown.

Much like running you just start. You have an idea of how it should go, but in the end it will turnout the way it is supposed to; just maybe not how you wanted it to. Every day is a good day to run, everyday is a good day to write. Every day is a good day to improve on both. Their will be good days, their will be bad days. But the goal can only be met by moving forward. So I move forward.

I may never win a Pulitzer prize, or a running race. But much like my running me, my writing me has the desire to do better; that is how I compete.

WIth a very explicit goal in mind,
I set off in motion.

My shoe withdraws from the comfort the ground and soil gave it.
It is lifted as I take the first step forward.

The hardened soil will soon fall from it as I move forward.

No one will get in my way, and if they attempt to they will
be pushed down with all the might and rage in me.

a goal.

Bringing out the beauty in women from every corner of the world, including New York, Paris, London, China and Morocco is what celebrity makeup artist Paul Innis does best. While his talent can be seen on today’s most recognizable faces, his passion is teaching and empowering women to see themselves with new eyes. Here he shares the same techniques he uses on today’s hottest Hollywood stars and runway models that make them so UNFORGETTABLE!

To go glam, you’ve got to embrace color. Keep the dark, saturated jewel tones, such as Navy or Sweet Plum, close to the base of the lash. Make sure you blend the color well so it fades up toward the brow bone.

To create a sultry eye with liquid eyeliner, pull the skin slightly and then draw the brush across your lash-line with a single swoop. Start with a lean face and with a little practice – you’ll be a pro in no time!

After you have applied foundation, brush bronzing powder all over the face to add a little sparkle. Then apply highlighting powder to illuminate the high points of the face – the tops of the cheekbones and a little on the bridge of the nose.

The trick for glamorous lips is to first line your lips, then fill them in with lip liner. Then apply lipstick and lip gloss for an eye-catching effect!

Found a fantastic outline tool. I have run to the end of what was arleady written/outlined and am going to take a few days now to make a very detailed outline. Goal is to have the outline done by Monday. It will be a lot of work, but it will help keep everything organized and show me exactly what I have already.

I will be taking the month of November to leave this project. I am participating in National Novel Writing Month and I will be spending the entire month challenging myself to winning (meaning writing a 50,000 word novel) the challenge.

My ultimate goal, will be announced later in the week, once I have a layout of where the story is going and what is already completed.

I am struggling to keep everything straight. I overanalyze in general. Doing this outline in a detailed, timely manner is going to be an exercise in throwing away the restraints in my head. I will not overanalyze and just go for big plot points through to the end.

Currently, the book is at 35,000 words, the goal is a short novel of 60,000, which will be filled out during editing.

Pg 120 – “The MEF asked students not only to learn about multicultural issues from an outside pe

Pg 120 – “The MEF asked students not only to learn about multicultural issues from an outside perspective, but also to become insiders – to understand how their own culture and perspectives came to be and how, through their actions and choices, they can change themselves and the culture around them.” ~ Research the MEF…

Pg 121 – This has the idea of a “color lens.” It would be interesting to have an “identity lens,” similar to a color lens, like seeing something through another identity’s eyes.

Pg 130 – “Arthur Chickering (1976) defines experiential learning as ‘the learning that occurs when changes in judgments, feelings, knowledge, or skills result for a particular person from living through an event or events’ (p. 63).” ~ Experience leads to greater identity development.

Pg 131 – While talking about a case study mentions that often missing from people is the ability to bring together “essential competencies,” the things that a person does very well. ~ Understanding what one does well leads to one understanding their own personal history, and, in turn, their identity more.

Pg 132-133 – “…Students were highly influenced and motivated by supervisors who validated them as knowers by treating them as knowledgeable and trustworthy from the onset of their internship experience.” ~ Challenge and support idea again.

Pg 139 – “These experiences provided challenge in the form of dissonance that granted students the opportunity to reconsider their multiple roles and their personal identity in the big picture of life.” ~ Dissonance leads students to greater identity development. It is necessary to develop, it’s the challenge of challenge and support.

Pg 142 – “Rhoads (2000) argued, ‘Reflection is key to promoting the self because it forces students to give serious thought to their experience and their overall lives’ (p 43).” ~ Reflection leads to understanding leads to development.

Pg 151 – “ ‘I hope you come to find that which gives life a deep meaning for you. Something worth living for – maybe even worth dying for – something that energizes you, enthuses you, enables you to keep moving ahead. I can’t tell you what it might be. That’s for you to find, to choose, to love.’” ~ Nice quote, absolutely nothing to do with identiy.

Pg 168 – How to bring about dissonance in students and what stages the students develop in afterwards. ~ Important!!

Pg 174 – “As students make the shift from defining themselves on the basis of other people’s beliefs and values toward becoming the authors of their lives, they experience dissonance in many areas, including the area of relationships.” ~ Dissonance from not being consumed by other’s beliefs.

Pg 178 – From a student’s quote, “I am embracing the idea that it is a process of becoming me. Today Beth is Beth and tomorrow she will be someone different and you can never fully capture who someone is.” ~ I love this! This is the idea that identity is never static put into words!

Pg 186 – “Students’ ways of knowing – that is, how they acquire, analyze, and judge knowledge – moves from a view that knowledge is certain or absolute and obtained from authorities to a view that knowledge is contextual and judged on the basis of evidence (Baxter Magolda, 1992). Students’ sense of self evolves from one defined primarily by how others articulate who the individual is to one based on self-reflection and self-definition (Chickering & Reisser, 1993).” ~ Not being consumed idea, again.

Pg 233 – It mentions Kegan’s theory of self-evolution. ~ Need to research Kegan…

Pg 245 – “The power of any framing device is that it provides a way of interpreting and giving meaning to the events, large and small, that we encounter in any domain of interest.” ~ Am I creating a development theory of framework for identity?

Pg 261 – “It takes time for groups to mature as communities. Many of our current FSGs have been in place for 2-4 years. From year to year, the membership may change somewhat with the loss of a member and the addition of another, but the agendas of the groups develop slowly and tend to progress in a manner that suggests a longer life span than we had first anticipated.” ~ Idea of culture growing, expanding and changing, important to the idea of personal identity.

Pg 261 – “…Bruner (1990) that storytelling is the premier vehicle for the social constructions of meaning and that storytelling can in fact be a prime indicator of movement from peripheral participation in the community to more central roles.” ~ Storytelling comes from experience, closest some have to actual experiences that change their identity.

Pg 267 – “Frames help us see familiar goals in new and sometimes disturbing ways.” ~ Nice quote.

Pg 315 – “To what extent do learners currently possess the self-authorship capacities required to achieve these learning goals? Identifying the underlying assumptions about knowledge, self, and relationships that learners currently hold is necessary to answer this question.” ~ This will help when creating final theory.

Pg 320 – “Three assumptions about learning serve as the foundation for Learning Partnerships Model practices: (a) knowledge is complex and socially constructed, (b) self is central to knowledge construction, and (c) expertise and authority are mutually shared among peers in knowledge construction.” ~ Rephrases earlier statement better.

Pg 323 – “Baxter Magolda identified three pedagogical principles that are central to connecting the three assumptions to learners’ current ways of making meaning and thus provide three specific steps that educators can examine for application to their own areas of practice: (a) validate students’ ability to know, (b) situate learning in learners’ experience, and (c) mutually construct meaning with learners.” ~ Rephrases earlier statement better.

Pg 4 – “Yet the authors recognized that learning to live with difference required understanding

Pg 4 – “Yet the authors recognized that learning to live with difference required understanding one’s own history and identity: (~ This is the basis of the idea for my theory. That in order to be fully developed you need to understand your identity, or at least a majority of it)

Because one’s own particular inheritances and experiences form an interpretive framework both for the construction of identity and for all further learning, all students should be encouraged to study these inheritances and to become conversant with and conscious of the images, symbols, stories, and vocabularies that comprise their own experience of cultural connections and particularities. (p. 21) (~ This is kind of another explanation of a personal history)

These authors also recognized that understanding oneself would be insufficient. They advocated understanding others’ histories and identities as well, writing, (~ Another aspect of my theory, that not only do you need to understand yourself, but others, as well)

Because our graduates will be part of a society that depends on engagement across difference, they need studies and experiences that enable them to become fluent in one another’s vocabularies and histories and to discover value in other ways of conceiving the world. (p. 21)

Finally, they noted,

Because issues of cultural diversity and racial inequity go directly to the core of human identity and self-knowledge, students should encounter these topics affectively as well as intellectually, learning to draw on experience and human empathy as well as rationality and analysis. (p. 22)” (~Good final goal for the theory)

Pg 5 – “Intercultural maturity includes the ability to use multiple cultural frames to construct knowledge, engaging in meaningful relationships with diverse others that are grounded in appreciation of difference, and the capacity to openly engage challenges to one’s beliefs.” ~ Basically, I think this rephrases my idea of identity lens’s. Also, it uses the idea of having to interpret things in many different ways at once. So you cannot just look at a situation or person in only on context, but in multiple contexts.

Pg 5 – From Lisa Landreman (2003) “achieving consciousness implies an understanding of self and identity (intrapersonal) in a historical and socio-cultural-political context (interpersonal), achieved through reflection (cognitive) and action” (p. 66).” ~ Again talks about the understanding of one’s identity in terms of various aspects, not just a single one.

Pg 6 – “Collectively, these reports suggest that contemporary college learning outcomes should include the following:
- Cognitive maturity, characterized by intellectual power, reflective judgment, mature decision making, and problem solving in the context of multiplicity
- An integrated identity, characterized by understanding one’s own particular history, confidence, the capacity for autonomy and connection, and integrity
- Mature relationships, characterized by respect for both one’s own and others’ particular identities and cultures and by productive collaboration to integrate multiple perspectives”
~ The identity is seen as a key part of contemporary college learning. But I think to have cognitive maturity and mature relationships one first has to have an integrated identity. One cannot understand what others are going through without first understanding themselves.

Pg 7 – “The slow pace of change in higher education, faculty training in their discipline rather than in pedagogy, and the historical bifurcation of academic and student affairs all contribute to lack of reform.” ~ I just liked this quote…absolutely nothing to do with identity.

Had a good trip to Chicago this past week for work. I actually maintained my calorie limit and felt pretty good the entire trip. So, you can imagine how gutted I felt when I got on the scale this morning and saw that I lost no weight whatsoever! I think it's because the only real exercise I got was walking a few blocks to and from the law firm.
Today didn't do me much better: I had Coldstone for lunch and a peanut butter bagel for breakfast! I've been craving sweet junk food all weekend ;(
To even things out a bit, I walked the 3 mile trail at Blacklick park today and mowed the lawn in 80 degree heat. Need to probably get on the elliptical at least a couple times this week to meet my monthly goal of 10 pounds lost (4 more to go by Oct. 10th).

I stood on a dirt road at the top of a long hill and watched runners struggle up and trickle by. The pack had long since strung out. Each runner appeared deep within their own thoughts, only to be drawn out by the voices of spectators, sprinkled throughout the course, or by the rhythmic sound of feet, that grew louder as they would catch up to the runner ahead or fall back to the runner behind. From a spectator’s point of view the race looked like a gentle give and take. Give and take; push and be pushed. But gentle? Ask any one of those runners laboring up that final hill, and they would tell you, it is pounding, tough, hard work. It's a battle against mind and body.

From my perch atop that hill I could see each runner take one arduous step after another. After 49 kilometers, the idea of running up this hill for many was not within their mental strength. When people would come into view I would raise my voice and shout words of encouragement. Most would pick up the pace, some even started to run. With about one kilometer to go, this was the time to dig deep and they knew it.

I cheered as my dad made his way up the hill, once he reached the top I began to run the last stretch with him. It was amazing how fast he completed those final meters. Struggling to keep up, I ran with him to the finish line. At the age of 50 or any age for that matter the ability to complete a 50k race is an amazing feat. Who wouldn’t want to be in that kind of shape?

----------

During high school and for a year at the community college level, running occupied a major component of my life. Then I moved away and took about five years off. Recently, I moved back to my hometown, Eugene, Oregon. The running community here was rich in resources and a great place to run and belong. It didn’t take long for me to reconnect with past coaches and other supportive runners from the community.

Watching my dad run a 50k trail race on his 50th birthday got me thinking about running again. At first, I started thinking of small goals, race a 5k, maybe a 10k. During one run early on, my husband and I started talking about kids, and when we might start having kids of our own. This conversation reinforced the fact that time is finite. That’s when I started to think big. I had heard about a training group for the May 2009 Eugene Marathon and decided to begin there. Then I thought about ultra trail races. What’s keeping me from running Ultras? I could do it, but you have to start somewhere, so I’m going to tackle my first marathon in May. Then work my way into Ultras.

Through this blog I will discuss and unpack the challenges, motivations, and epiphanies that come up through the course of training and racing.
