I haven't talked at all about my recent vacation. Hubby, Sis and I flew out to Salt Lake City Utah...and flew home from there too. In between, we rented a car, and drove 3700 miles...through Northern Utah, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota. We saw all the touristy places..although we didn't really have time to actually stop and do anything...there wasn't enough time. That was the price we paid for all the places we saw, I guess. My fave had to have been Yellowstone National Park. All in all, the scenery was spectacular. Enjoy the Slideshow. I also haven't said anything about the scrapbooking contest I entered...and won! Before I left on my vacation, I created and entered a page about my father. The contest called for a submission of your favorite student. Around the same time, I had come across a picture of my dad in grammer school...so that was the photo I used on my page.

Journaling on the page is as follows: Star student, Frank J. Fox, is my dad. This picture was taken sometime in the 1920's at St. Bridget's School, in Watervliet, N.Y. My dad was not only academically inclined...he was a musical genius. He studied classical piano for eleven years, beginning when he was a youngster and continuing through high school. No one could tickle the ivories like dad. I'm sure that my appreciation for classical, ragtime, the blues, and music from the forties is a direct result of listening to dad for all those years. One year, my mom asked what I'd like for Christmas. My request was for an audio cassette of dad playing his repertoire of routine songs. It was the best present I've ever received.

After I got home from my vacation, I went to Scapbooking.com, and I can't explain the feeling inside, when I clicked on the contest details, and saw my page, and my name, saying that I had won the contest. However, even though they managed to stop in time, the car behind them didn't and ended up crashing into them which resulted in the following images:

Thankfully, my friend and her family weren't hurt or injured and the car wasn't too badly damaged either. The two cars in front that caused the accident fled the scene. And so I hope they both die a fiery, hellish death and get double-raped by Hitler and Osama.

My words get harsh when the situation involves my close friends. That was not harsh.

Now on a lighter note, you'd think that the car that crashed into them wouldn't have sustained much damage as well. You're right, because logically if their car only had some dents and a broken back bumper, the car that hit them should maybe - at most - lose their front bumper.

Wrong.

Thankfully, again, for those two condemned-to-hell drivers who caused the accident, no one was severely injured.

To Cleone: Two words. Seat belt.

Just as you pull into a grand right curve at seventy miles per hour, it occurrs to you that if you just straightened your wheel - or better yet, let go - that you would careen headlong into that concrete wall. It would be an easy thing, a simple thing. One moment, one tiny impulse to the muscles of your arm.

You don't do it - but you imagine. Now it's in your head. You've completed that stretch of highway, but you are still visualizing what would have occurred if you had let go. Perhaps it would be even more satisfying to ram that wall, to jerk the wheel to the left, surprising even yourself with the suddenness of the movement - but only for an instant, before your appointment with the immutable.

Then, of course, it occurrs to you to question your thoughts. What is it that prompted this morbid vision? The obvious answer would be depression - a suicidal tendency. Perhaps. Maybe. But that doesn't seem right, does it? You might not be the most joyful person in the world, but you really haven't felt all that depressed lately. Have you? No, not really. Not like that.
What, then?
The next thing that comes to mind is curiosity. That might fit better, for, by necessity, you've never done anything so extreme. In fact, you've led a pretty cautious life. There really hasn't been much that you could call "wild" in your past, and that wasn't an accident. Usually "wild" has seemed to equate pretty well with "stupid," and those wild people have all kinds of problems that have never accosted you. You're not an alcoholic, nor do you have any substance problems. You don't have any real health problems, not really, and you've never lost anyone very close to you, although you can't claim any credit for that.
See, another reminder that your life is really quite good. Why then, if your choices have served you well, are you so curious, so desperately curious, about the most reckless of things?

If you feel left out of all things exciting in your safe, planned little life, why don't you go out and get trashed? Do some jello shots and regret it with your throbbing headache in the morning. Why must you dwell on something so tremendous, something irrevokable? Have you saved up so much care and safety inside that only a violent and terrible crash and squeal of steel and bones can balance it out?

Perhaps....

You're coming up on another grand right curve. As you begin to turn the wheel again, you glance left and wonder. Heart beating faster, you let yourself begin to drift toward the edge of the lane, concrete barrier looming. You look again, then gaze at your hands on the wheel. Your left front tire crosses the yellow line, but then you correct course. There's an aching feeling in your stomach as you finish that grand right curve and continue on your way, safely.

I had received a few documents sent to me by Mr. Gregg Ward, the Vice-President of the Detroit-Windsor Truck Ferry. My blog posting about the Truck Ferry caught his particular attention. He had told me that he sent his matter to the US congress dated in June 2007.  By reading pages 6 to 8 of the TI testimory, a few lines about accessing the truck ferry from the U.S. is pretty clear:

On the Canadian side of the border, directional signage to the ferry exists on
highways as well as county and local roadways. These signs identify the U.S. hazardous
material restrictions at the border and provide excellent trailblazing to the truck ferry
terminal. On the U.S. side of the border before the entrance to the bridge and tunnel, not
a single sign exists on the state, county or local roadways providing information on the
US National Hazardous Materials Route Registry restrictions or the alternate hazardous
material crossing of the Detroit-Windsor Truck Ferry.

He also states that after the events of September 11th, 2001 - Detroit media clearly sees that fuel tankers and other trucks carrying hazardous materials were able to cross the Ambassador Bridge illegally. Even though that there are signs clearly state that dangerous goods are NOT allowed to cross the Ambassador Bridge (and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel).

There was a little sign that was posted on the Ambassador Bridge - but after the toll collection procedure. In addition, there are no toll booth operators on the Canadian side to prevent a vehicle who carries dangerous goods across the Ambassador Bridge.

While prohibition signs exist in a few areas in Montreal, Quebec (notably the Ville-Marie Tunnel of Autoroute 720, Melocheville Tunnel, Louis-Hippolyte-Lafontaine Tunnel) and Quebec city, Quebec to notify truckers that carrying dangerous goods are prohibited in addition to signs in Windsor, Ontario leading to access to the truck ferry to inform truckers who carries dangerous goods, nothing physically exists on the American side in Detroit, Michigan.

Something should be done to avoid such a catastrophe. This reminded me of a Sesame Street segments, "Danger's No Stranger" and "The word is Danger" (sung by Little Jerry and the Monotones) - but to make matters more serious and to tie in with the HAZMAT loophole, the song "Danger's No Stranger" is used. I want to thank Mr. Gregg Ward for sending me all the information that he provided.

Changing gears, I stumbled upon watching a music video up on Youtube from a band based in Edmonton, Alberta called Social Code. They recently released their new music video "He Said, She Said". By watching this particular music video and to my "sharp" eye, I can see that Josh Ramsay of Marianas Trench made a cameo in this music video. I literally laughed on what the music video unfolds and there is even a shot of a random person in a Gorilla costume!! I wonder what if Bobby Foley has his say about that particular music video. It's anyone's guess. The saddest part for Josh Ramsay - his signature blue hair is gone!!!!!!! The music video reminisces me of Nelly's "Batter Up". Anyways, enjoy the music video(s) below.

The communications ministry has already requested the foreign affairs ministry to seek opinions of the Myanmar authorities in this regard, said a senior official concerned.

Dhaka may take up the issue of the proposed direct road link between the two neighbours for discussion with the vice-senior general Maung Aye, the vice-chairman of the State Peace and Development Council of Myanmar, who is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka this morning on a three-day official visit.

"The survey on the proposed Bangladesh-Myanmar link road will begin soon" The construction work may begin in the middle of 2008," the communications secretary, Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, told New Age in his office on Monday.

The contract for conducting the study and cost estimation of the trans-boundary road by March 2009 will be signed soon as the evaluation of the proposals was under process, official sources in the communications ministry said, adding that five consulting firms were short-listed for proposal submission.

Eight firms submitted expression of interest for the survey in response to the advertisement by the Roads and Highways Department.

The interim administration of Fakhruddin Ahmed after assuming office in January 2007 expedited the previous government's move to establish the direct road link between Bangladesh and Myanmar to boost trade and commerce between the two neighbours.

The Planning Commission on March 10, 2008 approved an estimated fund of Tk 4.97 crore for the survey.

The governments of Bangladesh and Myanmar earlier signed a memorandum of understanding on April 4, 2004 to initially construct the 25km link road two kilometres in Bangladesh and 23 kilometres in Myanmar at an estimated cost of Tk 195.85 crore.

Later in July 2007, the two governments signed another agreement on the proposed road communication between Myanmar and Bangladesh, to be financed by Dhaka.

The project area includes Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh and the Arakan province of Myanmar. As per the memorandum of understanding, two task forces ‘technical and financial' were commissioned for the proposed link road.

The Bangladesh-Myanmar Direct Link Road Project has been initiated by communications ministry of the government of Bangladesh and the Roads and Highways Department is the implementing authority of the project.

Alles in allem bin ich drei Minuten vor Abfahrt angekommen und alles war gut. Dann bin ich also Bus gefahren. Und gefahren. Und um 10.30 am kamen wir im nirgendwo an. Nur der Highway und ein riesiger Rock, in dem es Essen gab. Dort war Fruehstueckspause vorgesehen und gleichzeitig sollte es mein Stopp sein, naemlich Tea Gardens. Tea Gardens war aber noch ein Stueck weiter weg und dort gab es keine Busse oder Taxis. Der Busfahrer fragte mich dann, was ich denn da wolle, da das fuer Backpacker eigentlich nichts waere. Und er wuerde mir doch Port Macquarie empfehlen. Also bin ich spontan da hin gefahren, angekommen und wurde gleich von Leuten ueberrannt, die mir eine Unterkunft angeboten haben. Eine habe ich dann auch angenommen und nun sitze ich im ... oehm .. hab den Namen von dem Hostel vergessen, naja, und hab erstmal mein Busticket aktualisiert. Und dann werde ich mich mal umgucken, ein bisschen rumlaufen und morgen mit dem gleichen Bus weiter an Byron Bay fahren. Soso.

• Includes a tunnel under the Saigon river (under construction)

When complete this highway will take huge stress off the city's overloaded roads. Cat Lai is home to a very busy shipping port so this highway will be a huge relief for truck drivers who at the moment have to make their way through the busy streets where motorbike riders tend to give them very little consideration.  Trucks are also banned from the city roads at rush hours.

But boy am I glad I managed to make it back 2 days again for the Slingers' record-breaking game and catch up with old friends, especially Gurmit - both of us haven't caught up for a while.

Also managed to catch up with many blogging co-sojourners. Last night, I met even more at the launch of the Samsung Innov8!

I have loads to write here, and I hope I can find time to do so soon!

Nicht schon wieder...

Ben war gerade dabei eine Kreuzung mit seinem elektrischen Rollstuhl zu überqueren als die Ampel umschaltete. Der Fahrer eines Riesentrucks hatte keine Möglichkeit den direkt vor ihm stehenden Rollstuhl zu sehen und fuhr los.

Daraufhin verfingen sich die Griffe des Rollstuhls im Kühlergrill des LKW und Carpenter, der zum Glück mit einem Sicherheitsgurt an seinen Rollstuhl gebunden war, wurde über eine Strecke von mehreren Kilometern mit 80 Km/h geschoben.

Passanten versuchten der Brummifahrer auf seinen blinden Passagier aufmerksam zu machen, dieser hielt jedoch er an als die Polizei ihn stoppte. Den Rollstuhl hatte er während der ganzen Fahrt nicht bemerkt.

Ben ist zum Glück unverletzt und nannte die Fahrt den Ritt seines Lebens!

This project is actualy called New Saigon. The second image shows work on a new bridge which will be part of the very needed widened road. We looked around the show apartments last year and were impressed.

I am in my home state of North Carolina. Driving has become a novelty after living in New York City and hardly using my car. I have found it to be such a pleasure, but once I began to really sense again how absolutely necessary it is to have a car in the south, it starts to take the pleasure out of it, a mile of strip malls at a time. However, there is so much beauty here, and it is nice and slow and peaceful, so that has been rejuvenating.

I have been working on the treatment for my documentary short film. It is about ideas, where they come from, and how they work their way into a reality. I am hoping to get some very special people to be a part of it. More on that soon. I have to get on the phone and see who is going to be in town when I am shooting. Scheduling, and luck, are everything. I am excited about it, and I think I have some designs on pushing the genre of documentary a little bit. The balance is keeping it true, and perceptible to as many as possible, while somehow applying one's own stamp of creativity to it, and making it unmistakably "your work". I am curious about these supposed boundaries.

My new record has been received well which is nice. I feel a little awkward about it in a way, as it is largely material from 2 years ago, and so much has happened since. Also, it is the least conceptual work I have ever made. There is also something liberating about having it be more of a reaction as opposed to a comprised, coddled thought. It is beginning to see some airplay here and there, which I also find surprising since it is only available here in digital format. It is always nice to know people are hearing what you have done. It is a necessary part of the process to feel like it is getting out there and consumed somehow. The thought of sounds being soaked up that I have made tends to make me feel like I have more room in my mental garage. Room for new things. That has been a theme and an intent of mine for some time now. I guess as long as I am single and do not have a girlfriend, I can continue to think about these things at such a depth!

Speaking of, I am thinking that I may be single for a very long time. My constant change (or evolution I suppose) has kept any energy from finding a grip on my being it seems. It is quite strange really. I was just talking to my friend Maya in Kenya, and she always thinks I have a girlfriend, and when I told her how many years it had been, it just made for a laugh. I am good for those!

Well this has turned into sophomoric gibberish. Oh and speaking of... the VP debate is tonight. My sis and I are going to watch the Biden/Palin debate tonight, and drink beer. If we hear "maritime border" we must take a big shot. We decided since the world is seeing this as some Super Bowl, then we would just follow suit. I have had many conversations lately with friends about what country each intends to move to should McCain be elected. Where are you going to go? You better have a plan is all I am saying. The "October Surprise" is coming, so don't get comfy with poll numbers!

Blue Ridge Parkway was originally called the 'Appalachian Scenic Highway'. The project of the "Blue Ridge Parkway" placed under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, started in 1935 and took over fifty-two years to complete. It runs from the southern terminus of Shenandoah National Park's Skyline Drive in Virginia  to U.S. Route 441 at Oconaluftee in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park near Cherokee, North Carolina.
The Parkway has no direct interchanges with interstate highways, offers overlook and picnic areas, and commercial vehicles are prohibited. The roadway is not maintained during the wintertime and several sections which pass over higher elevations are often impassable and therefore closed from late fall to early spring.
Because the lush Blue Ridge Mountain range puts on one of the longest-running leaf color displays in the country, October is the month to enjoying nature's grand show and the numerous events and art festivals in the Blue Ridge Mountains and in our area.
