Men våren och hösten är nästan ännu lite bättre. Jag, maken och vårt dagbarn Chansey har haft några ljuvliga dagar. Vi tog sista båten ut från Strömstad. Solnedgången och det blåa blåa är magiskt. Chansey tyckte inte att det var lika roligt att åka båt...han såg lite olycklig ut. Ätit gott, vandrat långa promenader och läst böcker. Maken har i och för sig även mekat med moppen, lagt nya takplattor, huggt ved (efter det att jag nästan högg mig i benet), fixat med fönster som inte gick att stänga, dragit igenom båtmotorn med sötvatten osv. Men jag läste i alla fall en bok jag inte gillade. Marie Jungstedt.... tack men nej tack!!! Återkommer till det i ett kommande blogginlägg. Så sover vi så gott framför öppna spisen. Och hunden fann en koja under Guns duk på soffbordet.

På våren och hösten är det alldeles stilla på ön. Bara ibland för en flakmoppe förbi. Ingen kö i affären och höstfärger på träden/knoppar på träden är en fantastisk utställning naturen själv bjuder på.

Vi hade en dag av stormigt regnigt väder...mysigt. Men mest bara sol och värme.

Sedan träffade vi fiskaren Kurt. Jag kallar honom Garbo - från fiskaren i "Att angöra en brygga". Jag förstår inte ett ord av vad han säger. När maken bjudit honom på två whisky var det ännu mer obegripligt. Men jag förstod att han tyckte att maken saltade krabborna mesigt och frågade "tror du att det är nån jävla aborre du kokar"...

Det bästa just nu med Koster är att det bara är några dagar tills dess att vi åker dit igen. Då med barnen och med familjen E. Då blir det mer hummer och förhoppningsvis har kastanjen exploderat ut i alla färger.

Incluso habla del presupuesto para la SEP al 2009 en el que no se prevee la compra de pizarrones, butacas, eso entre las cosas que puede decir. Lo que pasa es que como buena carroñera que es quiere sacar provecho hasta de lo que va en su contra. Ya veremos en su dichosa marcha cuanto apoyo tiene y a cuantos dirigentes de secciones del SNTE, vamos a ver cuál es el presio que los dirigentes creen que tiene la anulación de la educación pública, cuanto por hagacharse a besarle los pies a la Elba. ¡Ah por cierto! me ha comentado alguien que conoce directamente a la Chucky que ella (la mamá de chucky) muy seguido anda "alborotada" y pues con regalitos es como consigue que le hagan el favor.

HERMOSILLO, Son.— Después de poco más de 20 años, Elba Esther Gordillo, presidenta del Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (SNTE) convocó a los maestros a salir la calle para movilizarse en demanda de que les sean otorgados casi 8 mil millones de pesos adicionales al presupuesto que se destinará en 2009 a la Alianza por la Calidad de la Educación.

“Con alianza o sin alianza corresponde que haya un mayor presupuesto”, dijo, y acordó con los secretarios generales de la organización convocar entre 5 mil y 10 mil maestros por entidad.

Se prevé que en la movilización —con fecha aún por precisar y que se realizará de forma simultánea en todo el país— participen cerca de 300 mil maestros, que se manifestarán en los congresos locales.

Mientras las protestas contra la Alianza por la Calidad de la Educación continúan en Morelos, en el segundo día de la sesión extraordinaria del Consejo Nacional del SNTE, Gordillo aseguró que las protestas serán una “presión legítima al Congreso; pero al Congreso para que nuestra voz sea escuchada y no nos vayan a mayoritear”, dijo.

Enfatizó que la movilización no es en contra del gobierno de Felipe Calderón, “es un asunto del Congreso, no del gobierno, (para) mejorar el presupuesto; y que no se diga que somos ambiciosos y que queremos (el aumento) para salarios, y luego que somos los más beneficiados y otras tantas cosas”, dijo.

Al igual que ha ocurrido en los últimos años, el comité nacional entregará una propuesta de demandas desglosada y con especificaciones para que el recurso quede etiquetado por entidad a los programas de la Alianza.

Respecto a las acciones que emprenderán, Gordillo precisó: “Por primera vez nos vamos a movilizar, porque otros van suben y gritan y pareciera que eso hay que hacerlo”.

Y lanzó que “no se puede elevar la calidad de la educación sin presupuesto”, pero sin hacer señalamientos en contra del gobierno del presidente Calderón.

En tanto, legisladores del magisterio —representantes del PAN, PRI y Nueva Alianza— presentaron un desglose en el que Silvia Luna, coordinadora parlamentaria del Panal dio a conocer que a pesar de los compromisos firmados con la SEP, en el presupuesto de 2009 no se destina recurso alguno para la adquisición de butacas y pizarrones.

Una docena de camionetas de lujo Hummer fueron entregadas a igual número de dirigentes del Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (SNTE).

A las puertas de lugar donde se realizó la 26 sesión extraordinaria del sindicato fueron estacionadas 12 camionetas en su versión de lujo en colores gris y naranja.

Las unidades modelo H3, presentaban tarjetones de asignación a las secciones 2, 3, 8, 28, 12, 27, 28, 35,42, 44, 53, 54 del sindicato que encabeza la maestra Elba Esther Gordillo.

De acuerdo con información de catálogo de la empresa automotriz, este tipo de unidades tiene un costo aproximado de 41 mil 890 dólares.

Casi 500 mil dolares (MAS CINCO MILLONES DE PESOS) se gasto la tipa esta en los regalitos para mantener en la bolsa a los dirigentes lamesuelas y para tentar a los dirigentes disidentes a caer en sus brazos, y aún hay quienes piensan que la chuky no es una buena negociante!!, Aun piensan que la educación pública no corre peligro con este tipo de actividades, ese dinero debería de tener otros destinos, en vez de andar comprando apoyos para causas personales.

The Gray Lady is reporting that General Motors and Chrysler have been in talks about a possible merger for the past month, that "negotiations are not certain to produce a deal," "would most likely still take weeks to work out" and that two unnamed sources say that the chances of the merger going through are "50-50." Obfuscate much?

With GM's stock prices ending the week below $5 a share and Cerberus – the private equity firm that owns Chrysler – grasping at the flimsiest of straws, including continued talks with Nissan/Renault, a merger of unequals is two parts disturbing and one part intriguing.

Cerberus' people haven't been returning phone calls and the only comment offered to the NYT from the General's spokesperson, Tony Cervone, was, "Without referencing that specific rumor, as we've often said at GM officials routinely discuss issues of mutual interest with other automakers." Broad, unclear and exactly what we'd expect.

The merger of GM and Chrysler would put Cerberus in charge of an "unspecified equity stake" in the corporation, making the two-headed General-Chrysler (or Chrysler Motors?) the world's largest automaker, controlling over 35 percent of the U.S. vehicle market, causing rifts among brand faithful and offering more potential (vehicle) cannibalization than the Donner Party. Not to mention both automakers' labor contracts, supplier dealers and slipping market share. Shocked? Don't be. We give it a snowball's chance on the Sun.

If it does happen, let's hope it doesn't look like this..

My dream cars...check out these concepts--the Hummer HX, which is Hummer's take on a Jeep Wrangler-ish vehicle; and the Ford Bronco, a new take on an old classic.  I'd rock both of them.  At the same time.  If either of these go into production, it would be very hard to restrain myself from pulling my wallet out.  My favorite is the HX, but the Bronco will most likely happen...Hummer's future isn't looking so bright these days...gas prices and inconvenient truths and all...

I recently read an article in New Scientist which mapped which species were most at risk from climate change.  It wasn't very exciting, but if you are trying to hold off a stroke you can read it here.

Anyway it really was not very exciting so I thought I would draw up a list of at risk species due to economic change (if I ever get my hands on them).  Here's my top 5.

1)  At one we have 'idiotus maximus'  you can see a couple of them here in their natural habitat

It is expected they will hole up somewhere, hopefully never to be seen again.

2) At two we have bankers, when seen in groups the collective noun is 'Wunch' as in 'A Wunch of Bankers"

3) The $X$

4) Holidays, these will probably marked extinct by the end of 2010.  Bloody shame!

Foi assim que criaram o HMMWV (lê-se Hum-vee), um jipão forte, robusto, potente, blindado e com todas as qualidades de um boooooooom carro de guerra, começa pelo significado do seu nome... High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, que significa Veículo Automóvel Multifunção de Alta Mobilidade. Veja a foto dele:

Bom. Falei um pouco sobre o HMMWV, mais o intuito da matéria é pra falar sobre o Hummer. Com o sucesso do HMMWV, a AM General, começou a construi-lo, porque esse carro mesmo sendo de guerra, caiu no gosto das pessoas, começou assim uma trajetória de sucesso, o Hummer, que e hoje um Ultilitário Esportivo, ou um SUV, que quer dizer (Sport Utility Vehicle). Agora sim..., Essa é a foto do Hummer:

O peso desse grandalhão é pouquinho mesmo, 3,1 Toneladas, que atrapalhãm até na direção, que é dura e pesada, mais fora esse e muitos problemas, o Hummer é um bom carro sim. O carro tem pneus fortes e largos, isso pra passar montanhas e montes de pedra com conforto e rapidez, sem tremer muito e com o máximo de desempenho/potência possivel, mais pra fazer essa roda rodar, ele tem tem um motor-câmbio da GM: um V8 6.5 turbodiesel, controlado eletronicamente, que gera 195 cv a 3.400 rpm. O torque é óbvio: 59 mkgf a apenas 1.800 rpm, isso significa que o carro precisa de poucas acelerações pra passar um forte obstaculo.

O Hummer teve várias restilizações, mais eu vou falar o básico sobre esse carrão, ele teve várias edições, o Hummer H1, o H2, o H3, o Hybrid, que não é a versão Hybrida dele, lançaram a versão H1 Alpha, versão usada pelo exercito, o H2 Sut que é uma versão pick-up do Hummer...

Um sucesso de vendas nos E.U.A é o H3, versão menor mais acessível do Hummer, é um SUV de porte médio/grande, tem uma boa autonomia e é bem economico, quer dizer, em comparação com os outros, pq um Hummer não é economido logo de cara. O Hummer H3T é uma versão básica de um Hummer Pick-up, ele tem tração integral de série, pneus de aro 32 e oferecer diferenciais blocantes na frente e atrás e pneus de aro 33, Ar condicionado, trava e vidros elétricos e rádio via satélite com CD player vêm de série e há sistema de navegação, Bluetooth e câmeras na traseira para manobras como opcionais, caixas para armazenamento de objetos, calço para bicicletas e motos e extensor de caçamba.

O motor básico é um cinco-cilindros em linha de 242 cv e 24,7 mkgf, com câmbio manual de cinco velocidades ou, opcionalmente, automático de quatro velocidades. Também há o V8 de 5.3 litros, 300 cv e 32,6 mkgf, acompanhado da transmissão automática. Na versão Alpha, a picape pode rebocar até 2676 kg.

Agora voltando a falar do nosso Hummer mesmo, diz o fabricante que os Hummers atravessa trechos alagados com até 76,2 cm de profundidade, sobe rampas de até 60% (27o) e aguenta inclinação lateral de 40%, hehehe, carrão forte mesmo, não é a toa que ele tem um preço de R$ 189 mil um modelo 2006/2006 H3 3.7 4X4 20V GASOLINA 4P AUTOMÁTICO.

You ever wish that you owned a Hummer? You know, those 10,000lb, 30 ft wide, 30 feet long, tanks on wheels that the rich and elite who don't care that they only get 2 miles per gallon, drive....

I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area. Fort Worth's richest and most exclusive suburb is a town called Southlake. Southlake is home to a lot of the rich and elite of the area including a large number of professional athletes from the Dallas Cowboys, Stars, Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. This town has a LOT of money.

It also has a high-school that is among the top football schools in the country. With all the money the district rakes in, they were able to build themselves a state-of-the-art 20,000 seat stadium that is used only by their school and is not shared with any other area school or district. The school district is fat with money and the kids that go to school in Southlake, for the most part, are very well off to say the least.

The High School recently suffered a bout of vandalism in its parking lot when a number of HUMMER suv's were "keyed" while parked at the school. These HUMMERS were not parked in the staff parking lot, but were parked in the student lot. This is a high-school where multiple students drive HUMMERS to school! ( I drove a 1976 Pinto!)

One of the HUMMERS had a new surveillance camera system installed on it and the camera managed to film the vandal from every possible angle as he keyed the car.

The film was given to the police and they made it available to the local media who put it on the local news.

Soon, the vandal was recognized by his neighbors and the phone to the Police rang off the hook.

Police went to the mans house and he was arrested for vandalizing the cars after he was confronted with the videotape evidence of him committing the crime.

The man is 72 years old.

He later told Police he was mad that there were "kids driving $50,000 cars to school". He had recently suffered some financial difficulties in the stock market and was having family issues, so he took out his anger on the rich kids vehicles.

A disgruntled old man taking out his anger over those more well off than him?

Not quite.

Turns out, he is a member of the local Country Club himself and what vehicle does he drive? Only a gold BMW!

This was just a case of HUMMER ENVY. When you are 72 and have worked your whole life for enough money to be able to afford Country Clubs and gold BMW's, it apparently might make some mad that kids still in High School are given HUMMERS to drive to school.

And here when I was in High School, my only dream was to get out of the Pinto and move up to something classic like a VW RABBIT or VW SCIORROCO.

Darn I was poor!

They're not just tanks; in some cases, they're coffins, relics and tombs to those killed while serving aboard them, and the U.S. doesn't want to bring them home because it costs less to let them rot rather than transport them back, refurbish them, and redeploy them. The Anniston Tank Restoration Center's back-order of tanks to repair looks like a damn parking lot, and America is wondering how to fix their lack-of-armored-vehicles problem in Iraq and Afghanistan (why not make more and stimulate the economy by putting people to work?)

The point is, I took a story idea from this, not just for the images, but from the emotions I felt as I watched this video. The music also helped to trigger ideas. I actually found myself crying, because I was ashamed at the complete disregard for the abandonment and neglect to America's fighting machines, what I considered to be a grave form of disrespect to the crews which served, and sometimes died, within.

In the case of my stories, my character, Commander A9, is sent to Iraq to assist in counterinsurgency operations. He is captured by enemy forces, but he is not mistreated. In fact, he is taught the ways of their rationale, and already beforehand, he has sympathized (though that is not to say that he has betrayed his country). They then take him to this location in the video to show him the "tank graveyard." Overcome with emotion and broken-hearted at the sight of the derelict tanks, several types of tanks being his favorited Abrams Tank, a tank once thought to be indestructable, he collapses to his knees in tears, unable to understand why such once-proud and powerful war weapons would be abandoned in the middle of the bloodstained desert.

Reading the Bible through the lense of politics reveals a dangerous problem: the Bible is very political. Consider these Old Testament occurrences:

• God orchestrated a political revolution with millions of workers walking out of government jobs and becoming immigrants (bailing out of their lifelong contracts)
• God had a group of millions of people march towards cities and declare a literal war on other humans to establish borders
• God warned the Jews to take care of the aliens in their borders (illegal immigration commentary, anyone?)
• God authorized humans being removed from their communities for sins of certain degrees
• God was against the election of one person to serve as a monarch

What about the New Testament. This one is worse.

• Mary's song about her Son said things like "He put down those in the upper seats and lifted up those below," and "he filled the hungry with good things and the rich he sent away empty" 
• There were four main political parties on the scene when Jesus emerged. Jesus chose sides with none of them.
• A woman faced capital punishment for being caught cheating on her husband sexually with another. Jesus opted not to bring about the punishment.
• A wealthy man asked Jesus what to do if he's followed all of God's commandments. Jesus told him to sell everything he has (his oxen, his house, his stock, his Hummer, his mansion, his condo) and give it to the poor.
• Some of Jesus' opponents wanted to ask Jesus about paying taxes. He told them to give the government what it asks, but also give Him what He asks.
• The "Gospel" was a term the Roman government used to designate its success in fixing the world. Sort of like saying Rome was bring "Change." The disciples hijacked this term and used it for themselves. Country first? How about "Kingdom First."
• Jesus said its easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than for a person of great wealth to experience His Kingdom. It makes me wonder which Kingdom Wall Street lives in.
• Roman emperors were designated as "Saviors." Proclaiming that a "Savior is born unto us" was like saying, "A new, better President has been born."
• Caesar was known for riding a steed into town for a parade with people waving. Jesus did a similar action (with a smaller crowd) and on a humble donkey.
• King Jesus was assassinated for his admission that He believed he was the King of the Jews. This was a politically charged statement, like telling Fidel Castro that the real leader of Cuba is a plumber from a small village.
• Jesus was known to have crossed the border a few times to go talk to the wrong people and help them out. I wonder what he'd do for Mexicans these days.

Overigens zullen de Hummers niet worden voorzien van bestickering omdat ze zullen worden ingezet voor 'onopvallende taken', aldus de politie.

Blah blah blah... this is all very interesting, but let's face it: if you don't buy American, you're quite likely to be a US-hating, Mac-using, latte-swigging, commy little hipster who would rather see US flags burning on buildings and Apple Pie replaced with tofu in schools. And instead of hurding cattle with your F-150 at the weekends, you're recycling your shit and whining about universal healthcare.

Real Americans Buy American

Nothing screams patriot more than a 5 miles-to-the-gallon chick magnet, and the real American Heroes are the folks who continue to drive their Hummers two miles to Walmart, while sticking it to the middle East and their $5 gas bullshit. The wheel base of the F-150 craps all over the American Disabilities Act - the wheelchair-bound go in the back and sit there quietly, unless they're Veterans in which case they get to ride in the Vets trailer that blasts out The Star Spangled Banner at 450 decibels.

And for real men, what spells verility and pure awesomeness more than a monster truck? Most guys can't even reach the door with a ladder but when you park this little baby in Hooters, those all-American cuties will be bringing the wings and pitchers to you. The car is so high that throwing spent wings out the door can cause a brain hemorrhage to passers by. And Traffic problems are a thing of the past since you can just crush those Prius-loving tree-huggers on the highway, and take pleasure in knowing that the last thing those liberal-leaning losers will see as they peer out of the crushed windshield and take their last blood-gurgling breaths is your awesome, awesome sticker that tells it like it is: "KICK THEIR ASS AND TAKE THEIR GAS".

As for 'foreign manufacturers', while we've got alligators and mountain lions and shit that'll rip off your flesh from 50 feet away, they've got god-damned pandas. "The bear that loves bamboo more than making out" wouldn't last five minutes with my buddies, a case of Miller Lite and an afternoon of high-velocity-rifle bear shooting. Hell, who even needs a rifle with a panda anyway, when you could just use harsh language and the dumb sack of bear-burger will just fall over?

Finally, as everyone knows - at least everyone in a free country - size is pretty much everything and Americans wouldn't fit into the average Honda without loss of self-esteem. You can't even open the box of the Jack In The Box Sirlion Burger in a Civic without the steering wheel getting in the way - and don't forget that Smart Car picture above is to scale. I mean, whoever thinks of building these feminine little deathtraps apart from people who don't even speak American? Sure, they get 30 miles to the gallon, but so does a bicycle.

There is no price for awesome.

Detroit is well known to be the most American place in the country, which is why it's the number one tourist destination for patriots and Republicans alike. It's gone through some tough times in recent years as some Americans have forgotten what true heroes - like marines, firefighters and Bill O'Reilly - never lost sight of in the first place: the automobile the most important thing we ever invented. And while our cars have been extensively developed by top scientists in recent years to add cupholders in spaces previously thought too small for a supersized Coke, new foreign cars have been fitted with tiny little GPS transponders that give the location of your family to al-Qaeda and those who want to harm America.

But let's look at the real cost of giving up our car industry to the Communists.

Economists agree that $25 billion to preserve the American way of life is a small price to pay, as shown in the Fed's pie chart above. If this were real pie, most likely Apple Pie, the slice size is so insignificant that even Jenny Craig would be on the phone screaming "for God's sake, that's pathetic - eat some more". Congress has acted quickly and decisively in cutting this much-needed check, in order to help GM, Ford and our national heritage. GM's Bob Lutz is no stranger to straight talk, having recently denounced global warming as "as crock of shit", and together with his industry brothers has rewarded Congress with $62mm in urgently-needing lobbying funds in 2007, and has pledged to increase this in the future.

The real question when you buy your next car is this: "What would Jesus drive?"

This video, is one of the most amazing videos I have ever seen regardless of the band or whatever. Metallica have truly made themselves one of the best songs and videos of all time. It starts with two American soldiers (marines are they?) travelling through a desert on the back of a vehical when they are ambushed by someone or something. They jump off and asume a defensive position and soon enough the second soldier reveales himself to be wounded, tending to his wounds the other soldier soon enough calls in for extraction...

This is where the second part of the video kicks in, A second patrol of a much heavier squad (3 extra guys are noted, aswell as a Barrett 50 machine gun) they see a car stopped in the desert with a man standing out front, after telling him to move the soldier debunk and begin surrounding the vehical and forcing the man to the ground. A soldier notices a woman dressed in Islamic clothing (sorry is it hajib?) and forces her out of the car, she walks toward another soldier who rapidly tells her to get down and raises his weapon... a confrontation happens and she stands not six feet from the soldier, he lowers his weapon and doesnt fire a round... she walks off and the soldiers help the couple get their car running and even leave, The soldiers look back on their squad leader (The inital marine who performs aid on an injured comrade) with disgust, while the leader looks to the sky living the "day that will never come".

I like the subtleness to how the message is "revenge isnt good" simple. The guys friend gets injured and possibly dies (its never hinted at) but the soldier never goes and avenges his friend, instead he betrays his orders and helps... not kills furfilling a day that will never come by never killing in cold blood (or anything else you can think of.)

I wondered what kind of people own hummers. So I popped over to one of the hummer forums and here is what I found. With apologies to my spell-checker...

Candidate for the stupidity hall of fame: Ok just because I am getting 10 mpg doesn't mean I am killing the world and all it's available resources. Heck I drill oil and gas wells for a living!

Mr. Logic: You might want to tell the "Hippies" there are more poisonous materials in there "pricksus" of a car than they think i.e. Nickel-Metal Hydride( a rare earth alloy, so you are depleting natural resources)! plus a combustion engine so the're doing twice as much polluting. A concerned citizen: When its all said and done as long as the environment lasts MY lifetime I could care less.....

Stereotypes do exist: SOH DON'T GET ME STARTED...I got so much flack from a friend of mine when I told her I bought my hummer. Her STUPID response was "Hummers are the reason were in IRAQ (refering to gas guzzling)". I told her I'm getting aprox 18 mpg and then had to reminder it was made by the same company that made her Saturn. She said she cares about the environment and couldn't wait to get her Prius. I then asked her "Oh, how many miles do you drive a year? She said not much, about 4,000. So I said "then it really doesnt matter what you get, and in fact your both HURTING our environment and economy! 1st Toyota is a forgin owned comapny and is killing our US auto makers and taking BILLIONS of dollars out of our economy! 2nd Hybred's use battery's and a lot of them! Battery's are good for about 6-10 years before they need replaced, and a used battery is concidered HAZARDOUS WASTE! So exactly how are you helping our country or our environment? SHE HAD NO RESPONSE.

Big car, small head: I went to the passenger side and low and behold!! there was parked another vehicle ass end fist so that his passenger side was blocking my entry into the other side of my H2. (Man was I pissed!!!). I had to open the trunk and climb into my H2 that way. No, I did not leave any notes on their windshields I just left, but to this day I take up two stalls no matter what!! Worst part about it I felt very humiliated climbing into it like I did.

DETROIT - General Motors Corp.'s treasurer said Wednesday that the automaker is planning to put its Strasbourg, France, manufacturing operation and its Hummer truck brand up for sale, and it may announce more asset sales later this year.

Company Treasurer Walter Borst said in a slide presentation at the Deutsche Bank Leveraged Finance Conference that the company expects to distribute marketing materials for both operations in October.

The slides posted on GM's Web site Wednesday say the assets under review are worth $2 billion to $4 billion. The presentation also says GM continues to review other asset sales and will make more announcements in the fourth quarter.

"We believe that we can monetize certain assets without impacting the strategic direction of the company," Borst said during his presentation, which was posted on GM's investor Web site.

GM and other automakers have faced liquidity problems as losses have mounted and U.S. sales have declined. GM announced a plan in July to cut $10 billion in costs and raise another $5 billion through asset sales and borrowing through the end of next year.

On Friday, the nation's largest automaker gave notice that it would draw the remaining $3.5 billion of a $4.5 billion revolving credit facility to boost its liquidity.

Borst said GM expects the global market to grow from 70.6 million in sales last year to more than 75 million in 2010, and says GM is positioned to capture that growth in emerging markets. The growth, coupled with cost cuts, factory capacity reductions and other management decisions, will set the stage for improved financial results by 2010, he said.

By 2010, GM will sell two-thirds of its vehicles outside the U.S., compared with 59 percent in 2007, he said.

He said GM plans to reduce its North American structural costs from $33.2 billion in 2007 to $26 billion to $27 billion in 2010. That figure includes savings from shifting retiree health care costs to a trust administered by the United Auto Workers, although the accounting of those savings could change, he said.

By 2010, the company also expects to reduce its hourly health care costs by more than $2 billion. The company spent $3.8 billion in 2007, he said.

Borst said GM is shoring up its liquidity and has the scale to be well positioned for an industry rebound.

"We're making changes to compete and win in what we think is an industry revolution," he said.

Formerly Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot and currently only Missy Elliot to the masses, her first video, Number 2, "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)," released in 1997, set a high standard for the rest of her video work.  Missy had been behind-the-scenes writing for other artists for years, when she finally introduced herself as a solo artist, with Supa Dupa Fly, she kicked the door down.  A few rap cameos along the way didn't hurt. 

Sampling Ann Peebles' 1973 hit, "I Can't Stand the Rain," this video featured Missy's simple yet clever, nonsensical, and fun rhymes.  There's unintelligent lyricism and then there's this.  I think Missy's style is sometimes mistaken for the former.  With a stripped down, melodic, and well thought out flow, she definitely has influenced other artists since.   With rhymes more bulky and complex at the time, she brought an alternative style that harkened back to old school roots with a ‘90s update.

I'll name-check Hype Williams once more, because the collaboration between him and Missy is really what made this video special.  His fish eye lens effect, at this point, was fresh and not overwrought.  Name-checking other hip hop/R&B artists and actually having them in the video was a fun treat for music fans.  And the black trash bag outfit was bananas.  

Though her latest release, Block Party, has had many delays and single changes, refreshingly, not a skinny thing, at the time, Missy was, and remains, a true multi-threat performer with stage presence and charisma that's carried her through with trash bag, flawless makeup and ‘dos, tomboyish yet feminine style, and talents for rapping, singing, dancing, and producing.

Who would ever expect a member of Timarron Country Club in Southlake to also be a member of the Sierra Club and Green Peace?  I am sure those ties were not stated on James Jeppe's application for membership.  Jeppe, seen above, is a member of three.  He also stands accused of ruining the paint jobs of numerous Hummers across Southlake.

It turns out, the Hummer Jeppe got caught on tape vandalizing, is owned by another member of Timarron.  It got me thinking as to what would cause someone to scratch an X into a fellow members car. 

1. Did Jeppe catch the owner of the Hummer cheating at Gin Rummy?
2. Did Jeppe lose a big bet on the 18th hole?
3. Maybe the owner of that Hummer said, "Noonan!" in the middle of Jeppe's back swing.
4. Maybe Jeppe was playing golf one group behind the owner, painfully waiting on every hole.
5. Maybe while Jeppe was taking a golf lesson, the Hummer owner's son was chuckling at Jeppe's awful swing.
