[caption id="attachment_81" align="aligncenter" width="510" caption="Hancock est vraiment un sale con..."][/caption]

Will Smith décide ici de briser son image de mec parfait, classieux, qui essuie les coups sans trop froisser son smoking. Fini le temps de Men in Black, Independance Day et autres joyeuses séries B sympas.

I would like to wish you all a belated Happy 4th of July! So far my 4th of July holiday has been a success. Altough it's now the 8th of July, I'm still on vacation! :)

It all started at 2:00 on the 3rd of July. My office closed at 2:00 pm, so I rolled shortly thereafter. As I was heading out of Silver Spring, I looked around and breathed a sigh of releif because I wouldn't be back in the area for 6 days! That's right! I took some much needed time off. After all, I'm preparing for the real holiday which is the 5th of July - my mom's birthday! :)

Yes, I did not post over the weekend, my reasoning for not doing so were simple. Most people who surf blogs were busy doing "holiday stuff" over the weekend, as was a majority of the country. Personally, I spent the time setting off fireworks, grilling food for friends, and enjoying the company of my wife and my friends.

That said, I would like to address one topic that came up over the weekend. That of the distain that certain people have both for the country I live in, and their distain for anything that can be viewed as "patriotic". Now, some of them would claim that they feel that patriotism has been stretched to far, that it has been politicized. They can claim that no longer is patriotism about "Our country! In her intercourse with foreign nations, may she always be in the right; but our country, right or wrong!" as Stephen Decatur said. They claim that there is no reason to be proud of where you are born through a miracle of chance, they think of themselves as part of a global community, not as part of their home community.

The problem isn't their patriotism. The problem is that they are vehemently anti-American. They are rabid globalists, their hatred not just of their own country, but of their own birth turns them against the greatest country on the planet. They watch scenes of Americans doing anything good and heartwarming, and they decry it as a stunt or some other silly jackassery. These people aren't Americans, these people are the heralds of doom.

Every great nation reaches a certain point where almost nothing they do can save them from collapse and their own destruction. Rome reached that point, Great Britain, Tzarist Russia, and as much as I hate to say it I believe we have now passed that point. Ladies and gentlemen, I submit to you that while our country is a wonderful place that in my mind, is right, no matter how wrong she may be in others views, our country is partially doomed because there are no longer enough people who still believe that same sentiment.

This saddens me.

I am getting the impression that some of you believe that I am a cookie addict. So I will come clean with all of you. I may have a cookie in my mouth right now (yes chocolate chip) but by no means am I an addict. It is only my third for the day and it is 12pm so how can I be huh?

Thanks all for your support with my lifestyle change to non-smoker-me. Saw my cousins yesterday for the first time in years (my whole family practically lives overseas) and they were so funny - apparently I smell better now that I don't smoke (thanks guys and there I was thinking its was my Givenchy Irresistible).

Apologies if I come across more loopy than usual, it has been raining solidly for who knows how long now. Our Lego house is leaking, 10,000 20,000 in Cape Town are homeless and canoes/inflatable boats have been added to the available forms of transport... If you have a big yellow ball in the sky please send him in my direction even if it is just for half an hour... please I beg you! One has to laugh through the pain though, there is no other way... oh and before I forget, if you happen to spot Spud out tanning please thank him from me for reminding me of my distant memory of the sun. *sniff sniff* No seriarsely, I am once again glow in the dark, my tan has gone poof and I need to wear my sunglasses in the shower it is so bad!!! Hmmm maybe the secret will help?

Words are an important part of our lives and I realise that at times I do "speak" funny. Apologies, if at any time you don't understand a word that I have twisted please shout (not too loudly as I am going deaf). I have come to accept the fact that I can be a total lexecutioner, cruel I know. Writing is merely thoughts right... so what does that say about my mind? (Yes I am expecting the jacket delivery shortly).

This week has definitely been an interesting one, I've even become an American-African after doing a quick test on the "culture". Hope you all had a fantastic Independence day. Most of the "American" blogs had something worded about this day and what it meant to them, so many that I fear listing them all but one, perhaps because it is broader in nature and a subject closer to my heart... Impendence for the world - Thanks Hayden that really made my day.

Do you guys realise that the latest note being printed in Zim is 50 billion? Imagine paying 30 million for a roll of toilet paper... hmmm... Our local cartoonists Madam & Eve released this the comic on the left today - true classic... yip time to face reality Boblet! (Click on the image to see it full screen)

Ok I didn't mean to get all depressing, the state of Africa does get me down so when I get a chance to zip through Paris it brings big smiles to my face and lifts my mood beyond the soil I find my ass sitting on. Can anyone tell me if the world is getting any happier, please, someone???

Back to the topic of America, I must admit that I am in total shock. The land of the free and you only get 2 weeks vacation time a year??? Hello? Come again? Something is really wrong with this picture, seriarsely wrong... Even South Africa has more leave days, we get 3 weeks by law and then companies add more on... am shocked to say the least but then again we also legalized same sex marriages back in 2006. Guess it's always a give and take, we have freedoms such as those but then we live behind bars *shrug*.

Virgo's are pedantic (apparently) right but don't bad manners irk everyone else as well? No am not being rude about all other star signs I promise. It is just that when I sit opposite someone who chews with his mouth open, food spitting out across the table in my direction, I get an intense need to hug a white bowl. Is it bad when a man just pushes past you to get through a door almost knocking you to your feet?? Or kids/adults/humans swear and show little respect, if not bully tactics? How about simple thank you's and the word please? Am I the only one??? Hmm perhaps I am just a b.i.t.c.h. who needs some zen.

Perhaps having manners has a lot to do with a persons upbringing or is it more to do with the fact that one has respect for others (including the proverbial environment). We often forget that showing respect builds relationships instead of breaking them down. Perhaps rude people (aerosols) weren't cherished by parents, siblings or partners as kids or as adults - what do you think?

Life, love, friendships, relationships, humans really, all have their own rhythm. You and I may be similar but there will always be a few beats that differ. We often try to change it, map it, bend it but at the end of the day it is what it is and we get to choose to love it unconditionally and accept it/them or not. Once we have made the decision as to which we choose we then begin to beat a stronger rhythm, we are more in melody, happier. Sometimes it is perhaps more about what and who we make priority than anything else, perhaps it is self love before all others.

Deeps has finally accepted that she is touched in the head, you are truly special but perhaps it is just the fact that we have decided to remain kids forever... or perhaps not. I shan't say to much with regards to what I think of her recent posts, she might get a big head.

Personally if Deeps was my kid I'd erm ok well... she is cute (brownie points?). Talking about kids though, the idea of having my own does scare me and who can blame me when one starts to think about what society is like these days. Then added to that is the question of whether you can party with them or not. I don't know, it is just really scary, remember the manners part as well - just how much do you have to teach these sample humans???

Health yurgh ok it used to be when it was all those big words that I had to whip out my medical translator for, these days its way more easier with Amber's Medical "Files". Simple and easy to understand everyday thingiemabobs that make all the more sense and make me feel more intelligent medically speaking (yes I will still see a doc but these are good!)

We did not make it to see Grupo Control on Thursday night. :( I tried and I tried, but Jose would not budge. We came to some very nice compromises, though. We went to the bar right behind our apartment complex that night. I was pretty impressed. I had no idea they had a full menu nor did I know it was a huge as it is in there!! I had a couple of drinks (they're not priced too bad, either!) and Jose had a BBQ cheeseburger. He said it was really good!

Yesterday morning, we drove to Rockport, Missouri (a little over an hour) so we could smuggle back some good old, illegal fireworks! That's a HUGE compromise on his part, because he hates fireworks and thinks they are a big waste of money. We spent $60, while my suegra spent $80!! LoL, I couldn't believe she spent so much on fireworks.

We spent the afternoon at my mom's house. She had BBQ ribs, cheesey potatoes, and hot dogs. Jose made a little carne asada.

Around 8pm, we took off from there, and went over to my suegra's house. She had caldo de camarron! Ewww... I am so not a sea food person. Jose enjoyed it, though! We started lighting off fireworks around 9pm (we being me, Rigo, and Omar) and by the time Jose brought us home (11ish) they still had tons of fireworks left! There were a fewerrors in judgement. Like when one of the huge rockets broke off the stick, and Jose thought he could tie it back on. When he lit it, it fell onto the street below and zoomed right at the neighbors house and exploded under their car!! Yikes!

Isabel was not having anything to do with the fireworks. She was inside, watching cartoons! Every so often she would stick her head out the front door to check to see if we were still lighting fireworks, and then SLAM would go the door.

Olivia was outside with us, but hiding under a table! :)

No one was injured, Thank God. My suegra's boyfriend was burnt kind of bad by a sparkler (of all things!). LoL, I think next year the illegal fireworks can stay in Missouri. I was a nervous wreck all night watching Rigo light off the rockets!

When we left, the huge fireworks show at the baseball stadium had JUST started, so we got a pretty cool view of that the whole way home. I'll post some pics a little later!

Bye!!!

The town we are living in put on a really good party in the park, with food and music and lots of stuff for kids, and even though we knew no-one and hung out with no-one in particular, it was just so nice to be surrounded by a whole community who were out celebrating the 4th right alongside me and totally understood what it was about and how it was supposed to be celebrated. Lots of red, white, and blue, and not a single barbecued breakfast sausage in sight!

That when the inevitable rain came pouring down in great angry sheets, we were home for naptime, and then it kindly stopped in plenty of time to leave again for the fireworks.

That the only panicked screaming that occurred today was when the first noisy group of fireworks went off and so thoroughly scared poor E1 that she was unable to draw breath for several moments and just stood shaking, with terror in her eyes and her mouth wide open, before finally breaking into great body-shaking sobs and all but climbing right up her daddy's body into the safety of arms. And even though she eventually calmed down and was able to watch the display with a sort of guarded enjoyment, every time fireworks were mentioned after that, she still pointed out that they were very scary and made her cry 'a little bit'.

Today marked yet another year of US History (as if anyone in the entire world didn't realize that). I myself spent the 4th a day early with fireworks, dinner and a large crowd in Brewerton, New York. There were at least a couple thousand people crowding the restaurants, streets and bridges and it was no less than an organized mess. It was a truly beautiful place to celebrate our great country. I watched fireworks on the shores of a lake and enjoyed, what else, some fish. The service at the Waterfront Tavern was exceptional and the day couldn't have gone better. I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th and lets hope this will mark the begginning of some good times in the USA.

From PBS:

During the 1850s, Frederick Douglass typically spent about six months of the year travelling extensively, giving lectures. During one winter -- the winter of 1855-1856 -- he gave about 70 lectures during a tour that covered four to five thousand miles. And his speaking engagements did not halt at the end of a tour. From his home in Rochester, New York, he took part in local abolition-related events.

On July 5, 1852, Douglass gave a speech at an event commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence, held at Rochester's Corinthian Hall. It was biting oratory, in which the speaker told his audience, "This Fourth of July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn." And he asked them, "Do you mean, citizens, to mock me, by asking me to speak to-day?"

Within the now-famous address is what historian Philip S. Foner has called "probably the most moving passage in all of Douglass' speeches."

What, to the American slave, is your 4th of July? I answer; a day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him, your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sound of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your denunciation of tyrants brass fronted impudence; your shout of liberty and equality, hollow mockery; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanks-givings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are to him, mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy -- a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation on the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of the United States, at this very hour.

4th of July is always a holiday that weirds me out. I feel like every American is staring down their

4th of July is always a holiday that weirds me out. I feel like every American is staring down their nose at me because I'm British. I know that's partially my insecurities and paranoia talking, so I try to quash it and not feed the voices in my head. So I join in with a smile on my face and do it all for Abby. I'm not going to let her miss out on Independance Day because I don't want to go. She was born in the US, so she has every right to wave the Stars and Stripes and be all happy. It's really funny though about how many people ask me if it's a national day of mourning in the UK. HAHAHHAHA. Most British people don't even know that the 4th of July has anything to do with the UK- it's a topic that is heavily cut out of our history books. We know about that period of time, but going over to America never gets discussed in normal secondary school History books and lessons. I imagine if you take it at a University, there's something about it. It's like a dirty secret that the British government don't want you to know about.

Anyway, so me and Abby took part in the annual Bay View 4th of July Parade. We marched with the church, and I set her up in her wagon along with the small cooler and some flags. Our wagon was the most un-patriotic one in the parade...but you know, I never thought about it before hand. We weren't even dressed appropriately. But, I honestly don't care what people think about myself or my family- I even got approached by someone from church asking if I'd like to wear a church t-shirt instead of my pink CEG Miranda Lambert shirt. Er, no. I honestly don't care if it says 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' on the front, I'm very proud to wear this shirt...and honestly? What's more American that country music? Ugh I hate shallow people- think I mentioned that already.

But the two of us had fun and we got a ride back with some friends afterwards. I'd gotten a ride down to the parade with the pastor and I'd left my bag in her car. So when I got back to the car with my friends, I realised that I needed my bag because it had my house keys and everything else in it. Luckily, we saw the pastor at the stop light and I leaned out the car window to tell her about my bag. We met at the church and she gave it back to me, thank goodness. Disaster averted :)

Happy 4th, everyone! :) Technically I should say Happy Independance Day.

Today is a very nice, bright, sunny day. Awesome weather, not too hot, not too cold. Just perfect. I tried out my new $20 cordless hand vac though my car really needed vacuuming very badly. Got most done before the charge ran out (both on me and the vac!) and I even did a little rug cleaning (have to work on that more) and interior vinyl cleaning followed by Armour All Protectant. I should just plan out things that can be done at one time and not try to do too much at once. Now I'm pretty sore. Woke up in pain as it is. Ah well, My car is a little cleaner. Smells nicer too. I love that car! It's almost like owning a brand new one.

I should clean up the dishes, if my back would stop hurting. Got a muscle cramp that would not let up since last night. :( I am thinking of hooking up the graphics tablet and playing around with some scrapbooking stuff, though. Or just enjoying a few games. Just resting. I'm too sore to really fix a big meal, so I probably will make some rice and cheese a bit later. I'll see.

Very nice day today though. Perfect 4th! Glad to have a nice long weekend. I kinda needed the extra rest. I also see that some more of my vegetable seeds have sprouted. I'm glad of that. I have to get some more bins and soil and stuff to transplant when the plants grow big enough, and some bamboo sticks for propping up some of the plants.

I do have something to look forward to on Monday. My new printer should arrive. Maybe I really should make a few scrapbook pages, so I can test out my new printer. :)

Tuesday will be 2 months that I have had my car. Time flies. Then I hope to take off Friday through Monday as my birthday falls on Sunday. Just want a vacation. It looks like it might be a go if I can get some stuff done next week that I been needing to finish at work. Looking good so far. It'll be nice to take a super-long weekend and enjoy the summer.

Hard to believe the year is half over though. Time flew by fast. In fact, yesterday went by so fast I couldn't figure out where time went! It was an unusually fast day, and I didn't think I did all that much. Then in August I have to start planning and thinking about more online courses. At least in Marketing, Online Business and C# programming. Maybe some Linux Admin stuff.

September is when the new Knight Rider series will start. I'm looking forward to that. Definitely some things to look forward to these days. :)

Everyone enjoy your 4th of July weekend!

Today, millions of people are celebrating Independence Day in America. Originally, begun to celebrat

Today, millions of people are celebrating Independence Day in America. Originally, begun to celebrate the Declaration of independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain in 1776, millions are simply celebrating family, togetherness and freedom. Being a Brit with many American friends - some in the US, some in the UK trying to reclaim their dependence, I've celebrated many an Independence Day and always enjoyed partaking in the celebration of freedom (the Brits were all too happy to take that away from so many over the centuries).

Since joining Mozilla last year, I've spent alot of time thinking about what Freedom means particularly on the Web, and for the Web. Be that Freedom from the often evils of propriety technology, freedom to choose and online privacy, to accessibility and security. Its clear to me that here at Mozilla we have been doing an amazing job with our products and work, but there is a long way to go before the Web is closer to the vision we set out in the original Mozilla Manifesto guiding principles. Every day though we do get a little closer, and the Mozilla community grows a little stronger.

Launching Firefox 3 on June 17th recently, and seeing the amazing 8M+ number of downloads clock up in 24-hours - I was thrilled to see so many people freely making a choice on which Web browser they use. In fact, since those 24 hours, another 22M of you have also made that choice (Firefox 3 was now downloaded more than 30 million times in the last 18 days). To take a trip back down memory lane -- some years ago, selecting your Web browser of choice was virtually impossible, there was really only one choice for most people. I'm glad to say we've come a long way since those days. Mozilla as an open source project and movement has been pivotal in driving back innovation and bringing forward choice to this most important window on the Web. But the work is by far not done, and we are only at the foot of the mountain.

So today on July 4th, I would urge you to also help promote freedom and choice on the Web.

Tell someone they do have a options,

show them how they can participate,

help them understand they too can help make the Web a better place for everyone.

Happy July 4th!

So I've never been to the States before, but Happy 4th of July to all Americans!! :) I usually watch some celebrations on the tv, and the fireworks are amazing! I guess it will be the same thing today!

I am currently waiting for lunch to cook, I have to be back at the pool by 1pm. The fog is still hanging around, but it is supposed to clear away today..and you can see the sun trying to break through! Gah, I certainly hope it does! The water temperature is 58F now, so it is slowly moving up.. :P As long as it doesn't go down anymore!

Well, I can't remember if I posted about the chalets recently or not, but I was #2 on the waitlist, and I've been accepted for a room now :) Which I am pumped about!!!!! Morgan was #25, but now she is #4, which is awesome, too! She is in the best position right now. I called into housing this morning to just check up on it all. Thing is, Chelsea wrote us a message on facebook last night and she says she is so frustrated about the chalet situation right now...because she doesn't think Morgan is gonna be accepted and aparantly, another friend of hers asked if she was interested in staying at her apartment....!!!! I am a bit pissed about it. Because Chels is gauranteed at the chalet, she was accepted first, along with Elizabeth. And now Morgan is almost accepted and she is doubting is all again. I am angry that her friend asked her to live with her; we've had these plans for the chalet ever since early in the university year!!! Man! I've just been hopin' and prayin' that Chels won't change her mind for good and bail out on the chalet deal....I told Morgan to call me so we could talk about it and sort it all out between us two, and then we'd just try and convince Chels to not worry. I think it's a little unfair really that Chels even thought of reconsidering :( Wish us luck...

We are Deer Island bound later this evening...I get done work at 7pm, and we'll be heading over to the mainland then. I will be back again on Sunday....have a great weekend, everyone :) xox

Contrary to popular opinion, historical research has failed to prove that Betsy Ross made the first American flag. In fact, the story that Betsy Ross made the first flag did not appear until 1870! Betsy's grandson, William Canby, began the story by telling it to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania. He claimed to have heard the story from an aunt.

In addition, no records of a Continental Congress committee to contract a new flag exist. As a final blow to this story, the are no written records of payment.

If there is so much evidence against this story, how did it circulate in the first place? Well, someone spread the story and it was published in the 1876 centennial celebration. It became so popular that now most people except it as fact.

This is my fourth 4th of July outside of the United States. I have almost forgot what it's like to have a day where you cannot get away from the fact that it is a holiday. Oddly enough, they don't celebrate it at all over here! Tonight at Wilpshire Methodist Church, we have a variety show and I hear the choir is going to sing some patriotic songs for me and April. I doubt one will be "God Bless America".

I don't remember doing the same thing each year on this day, but it was the tradition for me and my dad to watch the film version of the Musical 1776. So, in honour honor of Independence Day (and for my dad, who has been unable to watch this with me four years running), I offer this video from the said musical: Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams argue what will be the national bird as they wait for Congress to read through the Declaration of Independence.

Out here in flyover country, every town, large or small, will have a Parade today. Everyone will stop their daily activities for a little while to honor the flag and the country. Even the tiny little town of Hitchcock, South Dakota with their population of 106 will have a parade tomorrow. I will be there to salute the flag as it passes and to see the antique cars, trucks and tractors. I'll see what this year's Boy Scout project will look like, I'll watch the parade of horses as they prance by then the Future Farmers of America and the 4H club with their contributions. The local American legion post will be in charge of parading the colors and providing the honor guard. The Mayor will have out his Model T and another neighbor will bring out the 1928 Continental stretch limo. I will wave as the parade finishes with the fire truck blaring it's siren and bringing up the rear.

Where am I going with this? People out here still hold Independence Day in high regard. It is not a day to buy a mattress, a new couch or even a car. It is a day to reflect on what we have and to celebrate our separation from British tyranny. You see, these things are still taught out here. Children are taught that this country was built on the concept that the people are the sovereign and government is the servant of the people. That's why when Iowa flooded you didn't see people sitting around on rooftops waiting for the govnm't to rescue them. You didn't see the mayor of Cedar Rapids standing on broken levy talking about how it was all George Bush's fault. You didn't see the Governor of Iowa blaming the FEMA for not helping soon enough. No, the people out here still realize that it is the people (neighbors and friends) that are the first responders to a catastrophe not the govnm't.

Today I will go to the parade and when I do I'll be watching small town America pass by. As it passes I'll smile and thank my God that I live in the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Who has seen the magic of a summer day in June?
Who has seen enchantment at the rising of the moon?
Who has seen the everglades with sun up in the sky?
I have seen it all, and in the blinking of an eye.

Who has seen the ocean as it rolls up on the shore?
Beaches that just stretch for miles, to wander and explore?
Who has counted seashells as they lay right on the beach?
As big around as coconuts, and all within my reach.

Who has felt the sand that's as soft as talcum powder?
Who has heard the ocean rolling in, and getting louder?
Who has watched wild pelicans along the coastline fly?
I have seen it all, and just how blessed does that make I?

Who has seen the palm trees stretching out to greet the day?
Who has walked along the beach, enjoying Tampa Bay?
Who has watched the sunrise, and been blessed to see it set?
Who has watched the evening shadows make a silhouette?

I have seen it all, and now I write to share with you,
My toes upon the morning grass just wriggling in the dew,
The sun upon my shoulders, the warmth upon my skin,
The happiness of " being home", that's felt so deep within.

I have seen it all, and I thank God just one more time,
For sharing this America, and making it feel mine,
I thank God for sharing too, the visions that I see,
This beautiful America, land of the brave and free.

We must always give thanks for the freedom God has allowed us to have in this great country of America.. And remember the ones who have fallen to protect us. Regardless of your view on the decisions that are made to go to war or not . We should always pray for our service men and women. So while we are celebrating this Independence day let us stop and give thanks to our Lord first and to our service men and women second.

"In Remembrance''
