It singles out our 2007 INOX as a "a fine example of pure Dijon clone chardonnay".

... the wine is packed with flavors of fresh stone and citrus fruits, which are nicely balanced with a vibrant acidity and just a hint of minerals.

We couldn't agree more. Check out the article.

Now who doesn’t know Sathyam Cinemas? If you are a Chennaiite or even if you have visited Chen

Now who doesn't know Sathyam Cinemas? If you are a Chennaiite or even if you have visited Chennai once so far in your lifetime, you would no doubt have heard and definitely have watched a movie or two over there. Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai is the most happening Movie complex in Chennai, closely followed by Inox Movies and Mayajaal. I have no idea if there are any other movie complexes in this lovely south Indian city that celebrated its birthday (368th is it?? I think so!! :) ) just this week that went by.

Now I have no complaints about the way movies are screened at Sathyam Cinemas...nor am I gonna bang my head concerning over the rocket high prices of popcorns (they are good, and ask for some 'extra butter' to be added...yummmy deliciiouusss!! :P ) sold over the counters there.

But the concerns that I have is again (like last time) related to booking and this time its regarding the online booking portal. Earlier the payment gate was well within the Sathyam portal, but of recent they have started directing the payment through some secure channel...I have especially had terrible experiences the last 2 times that I have bought my tickets online. As I log in, select the movie of my choice, choose the seating location, reject the food-at-my-seat option...it leads me to the 3rd party secure payment gate and thats when all the problems have been. The last time I booked 2 tickets for 200 bucks, the seats were booked and monetary transaction was successful (as it got debited on my credit card statement) but it failed to take me back to the Sathyam Cinemas portal and hence I ended up without the booking-number...which is essential to collect tickets later...nor did it appear in my ticket booking history column on the portal...The same thing happened when I booked the tickets for 4 - 320 bucks - the time before. :(

Asked the bank guys, they said that the money has been credited to Sathyam and Sathyam guys say that I have not booked any tickets as my booking is not reflected in their portal...What can I do, but Sigh! :(

I don't know if any of you have faced this problem...but this has made me not to use the Sathyam portal, and as a result watching movies on big screen at Sathyams has stopped since 2 weeks now...am missing it, no doubt...booking tickets is tough as I stay at a distance and mainly the timings don't suit for me to rush in for a newly released movie...

So I've headed to Inox Movies and Mayajaal to watch movies of recent...but its not the same...Inox is a small place...and it being on the top floor of the Citi Center Mall, does not have that appeal of a complete movie complex...while Mayajaal being on the ECR (East Coast Road) is way too out of the city and travelling late nights is a pain with the cops and cons treating you alike if caught!! Moreover, I miss the Sathyam popcorns at these two complexes...hmmm...

Hope the Sathyam guys do something about this...esle I have no other go, but to watch movies at INOX and Mayajaal. Not that good an idea, if you ask me even in sleep.

Ram Gopal Verma (RGV) is back with his new movie “Phoonk” which got released last friday

Ram Gopal Verma (RGV) is back with his new movie "Phoonk" which got released last friday...Last heard (with RGV, you never know! ;) ), it's a movie about superstitions and is supposedly under the "Horror" genre of movies. Being the creative one, RGV promised to pay Rs. 5 lakh (500,000) as a prize to that person who would watch Phoonk in a theatre 'ALL ALONE'. As per RGV, Phoonk is a horror movie of the kind that will-for-sure get on to the nerves and hence he threw open this challenge which ended on 18th August. One brave soul took up this challenge and is believed to have come out of the theatre in half an hour flat.

Now the question is, was Phoonk that scaringly spooky or was it simply unbearable (remember RGV's Aag?? :P )???? YOU NEVER KNOW...If anyone among you have taken up the challenge to even watch Phoonk, Let me know your thoughts!! :)

BTW, heard that another brave soul in Bangalore has decided to watch Phoonk tonight at 10 all alone at INOX and he has booked the entire 225+ seater for himself by paying close to INR 48K!! All the best to him, and to RGV too...hehe!! ;)
I have not watched this movie yet (and don't know if I will) but I certainly won't be watching it alone, like I did the last time with RGV's Sarkar Raj!! Period.

*************************************************************************************

What the Newspaper Article made me aware this weekend:

Web2.0 or the social networking/user-generated content era is the latest to take over the virtual world. But do we have the Cyber law to curb the misuse of the technology?
The article gave an example (most probably, a real one) of a teen gal getting to know a guy online through one or more of the various social networking mediums (mostly Chat sites) and then how she unsuspectedly gets entangled into the trap of sexual predators which finally leads/forces her to commit suicide.

Questions asked were:
1) Should not our lawmakers analyse the impact Web2.0 has on society and prescribe educational programmes for teenagers as well as educate individuals, mainly the teachers and parents of teenagers about the possible dangers of social networking?
2) Do we have a legal system to deliver justice to people like the teen gal in the above said instance or even to book the guy?

What's your take on this?

On one side, we see and experience the many advantages that Web2.0 has to offer us to build and maintain a social network, but on the other side, we have certain elements which bug the entire possibility of a clean virtual environment.
Now with the social interaction going to be boosted up soon with the arrival of Web3.0, I guess its time for the law makers to put the laws into 'real' action.!!

*************************************************************************************

What are the Indian Cricketers up to?? Man...they seem to be so confused with the whole process of playing cricket of different formats. With T20 totals in One-day matches and One-day totals in Test Matches, they seem to be heading no where. Moreover the fear factor in them about the tactics of the Lankan spin duo of Mendis and Murali seems to be reaching greater heights match after match. No idea what happened to the idea of Indians being better players of spin bowling!! Sigh!

The Men-In-Blue (MIB) are known to make heroes out of puppets...Remember the West Indian Franklin Rose? That chap got hammered and clobbered around the park at the hands of other teams whereas he came up with a 5-wkt-haul, each time he played against us. Ok...Remember Aaqib Javed, the Pakistani speedstar?? He was specially played only against the Indians and each time we didn't disappoint the Pakistani selectors as we gifted him a bunch of wickets just like in a promised package deal! ;)
The list continues...and so does the 'fear factor' of our well-nourished, well-branded and well-advertised cricketers. Hmmph!

*************************************************************************************

I have always been a Taurean, I have always read the sun-sign predictions and I have been amazed by the indifferences between what is on paper and what actually happens, always.

Check this out...this was last Saturday:
1) Good day to share work and responsibility with your peers: Sadly such things are said about me only on weekends! ;)
2) Accidental benefits are indicated: I didn't understand this clearly until a bus just whisked past the car when I was driving...My Dad who was in the front seat, yelled (am still not sure, it was at me or the bus driver!!) though this wasn't indicated!! :D
3) Your love life will be good: Ahem...he didn't know I was single, did he? Hmmph!
4) Don't give into emotional pressures when making financial decisions: Early morning as I reached Bangalore, my cousin called up to remind me of the pending treat I had to give him! I have been evading him for more than 2 months, but the emotions finally got over me and I agreed to his request. So Sue's Garden (A Caribbean Restaurant in Indiranagar, Bangalore) it is for lunch on Sunday...Ms. Sue, here we come! :D

I know I haven’t posted in quite long, like 10 days, and haven’t posted anything worthwh

I know I haven't posted in quite long, like 10 days, and haven't posted anything worthwhile in like a month (but then, have I ever?)... but the thing is that there is nothing to post about. My life has become boring and monotonous... the last interesting thing that happened in my life was when my friend told me to find a girl of Jalandhar who was also studying at Bansals and get her post something for his friend, who she was friends with (I know, pretty confusing!). Well you know how grave the situation is when you label something like that as interesting, and this also happened like a week ago. My whole day contains of the following things:

1. Sleeping (a lot of it)

2. Eating (very little..really)

3. Going to the classes (and listening to the profs trying to make sense of KTG and stuff)

4. Studying a little (really really little)

5. Surfing the internet (forcibly, even if I can't find anything)

6. Reading a book or watching a movie (for which I have to wait for like a day and a half to complete downloading)

Yes, that is all I have been doing, locked up in my room (except for going to the classes), for the last 2 months or so. My friends call me and all I have to say is that I have nothing new to say, so if they don't either, then we might as well hang up. I guess that all confusion part was a desperate attempt of my mind to spice up my life, cuz that has also totally died down too. It's like my life is about surviving, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the world, and not living.. I would be happy if I was doing something I loved.. but I'm not and so I am going where the wind takes me (though I am heavy for it and there is a lag). And the worst part is that I don't know what to do about it, cuz I can't see how my life was any different before I came into this shithole....

No, wait, that's not the worst part... the worst part is that the dark knight is not releasing here. How long have I been waiting for it? Well, not long, just like a year... and now its not releasing in kota. I mean the people here must be as dumb as fu*k, cuz when I went into the inox here (the only theatre here) to ask about the timings, they didn't even know there was a film by that name, and isn't it like the biggest movie of the year? generating oscar buzz before even releasing? but no, these ignorant guys don't even know about it and on top of that, don't know how to talk to people properly.. I mean who is getting PAID for costumer service here? I am so gonna look back to living in kota as the worst in my life, at least up until now. Anyway, that is not the point of the post.

Now, that I have bored you completely (wakey wakey!) with my rant about my life here, the news of the day is that as I can't find anything to post here... I am gonna start digging up the past and try my hand at fiction and stuff. Let's see how it goes.

P.S. - If you feel like killing me after reading this mind numbingly boring and pointless post, you are welcome to come here and try your hand at it, I mean at least it would add some adventure ;)

P.P.S. Yesterday while watching Schindler's List (again), a thing occured to me, that could the holocaust happen in this age and time with muslims, like jews during the WW2? Or does democracy play too important a role to let that happen now? Leave your opinion in the comments.

P.P.P.S.(This is the last one, promise) - How is the new header? Was the previous one better or this one?

Since last two weeks I had been waiting for this day to arrive…cos it was today early morning

Since last two weeks I had been waiting for this day to arrive...cos it was today early morning that the tickets to the movie, Jaane tu ya jaane na was supposed to be opened for sale. So as yesterday's night extended into the early hours of today I was logged into the websites of two "famous" multiplexes of Chennai....Sathyam Cinemas and Inox Movies. Both disappointed me in their own stupid ways. :(
I was awake till 1:00 am waiting for some miracle to happen and for the schedule to be opened for online booking. I went to sleep, when there were no signs of any upgradation on any of these sites.
I was up again early in the morning...and logged into these damn stupid websites. Sathyam and Inox didn't actually deserve, me doing all this at the cost of my early morning sleep!! Sickos!
The morning newspaper carried advertisements from both Sathyam Cinemas and Inox Movies which had them saying "Booking open" and we were either asked to choose one of the three methods:
1) Book online
2) Book by calling their numbers
3) Book by SMS

And this is what I got when I checked the 2 multiplexes at 8:30am.

Sathyam Cinemas
1) Book online - The site was up fast but there were no schedules from 4th July onwards.
2) Book by calling their numbers - Network was busy...but when it rang, no one picked.
3) Book by SMS - I got a reply SMS saying it didn't recognise the movie. And it took me 2 msgs to get to know this. It was not toll-free.

Inox Movies/
1) Book online - The site was super fast but there were no shows 4th onwards when it came to Chennai.
2) Book by calling their numbers - Got to hear a network connection failure message each time I tried.
3) Book by SMS - No reply...sent twice...no replies both times...fukced my phone bill again for nothing!

On reaching office, we thankfully had no access to these websites (who wants to see the missing schedules the whole day?)...kept calling unsucessfully both the Sathyam and Inox phone numbers till evening. One blessed soul in Inox picked the call and informed us that online booking would start 6pm onwards (it normally would be 7pm by the time I reach home) but tickets were sold out by the time I checked the site at 6:45pm on reaching home early. Damn!!
Got to know from a friend that tickets at Sathyam, were all sold out for Saturday without them having turned-on the online booking feature. Psychos! Its scheduled now, but what's the point? :(
Sathyam boasts of its online booking system....but it gets laid and screwed up when in demand. Where and how does it become housefull without a single soul having booked it? I won't be surprised tomorrow if I would get to lay my hands on one of the booked tickets. :P
Sathyam guys, go to hell!! You suck big time!! iilii

I believe its High Time for other multiplexes to come up...the monotonous hold that these nuts enjoy, has to be broken!!! Hmmph!

Darjeeling, June 4: The swanky auditorium at Inox here was bustling with activity at nine this morning. But the packed hall had not come to watch the latest Steven Spielberg movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, currently being screened at the multiplex here.

Rather, the attraction was a number of wannabe Spielbergs, who took their first wobbling steps. Three graduating films made by the students of St Joseph's College (North Point) made it to the big screen for the first time today.

“We always used to joke that one day our films would be screened in this auditorium and when it actually happened, the emotions were too big,” said Mikma Tshering Lepcha, the music composer of Subha, which deals with child molestation.

Lepcha, however, said the students had no watertight roles as directors or editors. Everybody switched roles according to the film’s requirements.

The first graduating batch from the department of mass communication and journalism in North Point were divided into three groups, each consisting of nine students, who were asked to make “proper” films.

“The show they have put up today has made us proud. They still have to travel a long way but the early steps are encouraging,” said Vikram Rai, a lecturer of the department.

The other film, A Thin Line, was based on the trials and tribulations of teenagers. It also explored the problems faced by gays. Except for the third film 13 13, which ran precisely 13 minutes and 13 seconds, the other two were about 20-25 minutes each.

For students like Gayatri Bhandari from Bhutan, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. “I am now confident that I can go the distance. I want to return to my country and do something,” he said. [The Telegraph]

Brian, Chehalem's Cribbage King and Cellarmaster was nice enough to take a couple of us in sales through our 2007 white wines. While the 2007 INOX Chardonnay and most of the 2007 Willamette Valley Pinot Gris were bottled a couple of weeks ago, the 2007 Reserve Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and the Rieslings are still in tank and it was a treat to be able to see how those wines are coming along.

Yes, I am biased, but will nonetheless claim that these 2007 whites show why Chehalem is widely regarded as one of the best producers of white wine in Oregon, if not the country. Every white in the cellar has brilliant acidity that is perfectly balanced with beautiful fruit. The Rieslings are deeply layered and interesting. I think the 2007 Reserve Pinot Gris is the best we have made. I can't wait until these are released.

Many Willamette Valley wineries have made their mark with Pinot Noir and we are no exception, but in many ways, the white wines are what set us apart from our peers. We are one of the few who make more white wine than red wine. And we like it that way.

"I just love making white wines and I love to drink white wines," Brian said while taking us through the 2007s, "We make what we love."

I think that is why we make them so well.

Multiplex operators are taking their operations to tier II cities now. Inox, the multiplex operator, which claims to be the first to move into untapped markets, now plans to enter Belgaum and Hubli with multiplexes of 4-screen. It plans to have a four-screen multiplex in Belgaum and another four screens in Hubli.
It has signed up developers in Hubli and Belgaum for setting up its multiplexes. The eight screens will be operational by February-March ‘09. The multiplex operator spends an average of Rs 2.5 crore per screen.

The slits in my wrists, not vertical but horizontal, are...not...bleeding. Not one measley drop of that crimson liquid pours from my wounds. I take the razors and slit more than a theif in a candy store. Nothing! Not a damn thing.

I've been trying for days now to commit suicide but nothing works. I tied a noose to my ceiling fan. I did the right knots for it; running bowline, the tarbuck knot, and the slip knot. But the funny thing is once I kicked the chair away from me I just hung there. Four hours of just hanging there and no sensation of choking. I thought maybe if I kicked and wriggled around like a worm on a hook something might happen but nothing. So I just swung around until the ceiling fan broke and landed on top of me. Not even that gave me any sort of bruising.

Just the other day I swerved my bicycle into oncoming traffic, got hit by a Subaru, flew flipping over it and landed into a plush grassy yard. Bermuda grass to be detailed. It was soft. The softest grass I ever felt before. And you know what I got for that? No cuts, no scrapes, no broken bones...NOTHING! Just grass stains and 30-something soccer mom screaming at me at why I would do that. I did not exchange information or anything of that nature. Fuck her, I'm trying to kill myself here.

Seriously, I try so hard for the first time and what do I get? Same thing I get for not trying, the big goose egg. I jumped off the top of my four storied apartment complex a few days later. As fate would have it, I did not die. The empty three foot deep pool did nothing to me. It made more cracks than me. Death simply does not want me.

But today is different. Today is the day I complete what I want, what I need. I just slid the full clip into the Beretta 92FS INOX Stainless 9mm. Just bought it, it is still shiny. I turn the saftey off and cock the gun. I'm laughing hysterically, this has to work. I continue laughing as I put the gun directly on my temple. Straight to the brain. I shake a little bit but Carl of Carl's Gun and Ammo assured me that's normal. Breathe, just breathe. You can do it! Count down. Three...two...ONE!!! *BANG*...FUCK!!!

Straight through the bullet went. Brains splattered across the wall behind me and the window as well. The bullet went in and out and the bullet sunk into the ceiling. Blood pools around my lifeless and limp body. The gun smokes bellows into my face as the gun as my left hand is still holding onto it in front of me. My arm appears broken from the fall. It is sitting very awkwardly, it has to be broke. Blood drips down into my eyes and I think I see a bone sticking out. I can't distinguish myself between the floor and the blood now. Everything is going hazy and grey.

Wait a tick. If this worked as planned shouldn't I be seeing pearly gates or the river sticks of hell? Where is the stairway to heaven? Where is God? Where is Zeus? Where is my grandma Patricia. Someone, something out there tell me my outcome.

A gasp? A gasp> Oh shit, did I just take a breath? And another? Oh God no. No, no, no. Where's my left arm? It's broken move it. You can see it out through the blood. There! Is it broken? No bone, I see no bone! Damnit, I'm still alive. Sirens?! I hear sirens. I finally blink and when I open up my eyes there stands cops, firefighters, EMTs, my next door neighbor...everyone. They speak to me but I can't hear a word. I see the mouths moving but their voices are non-existent in my mind. I hear nothing. Sucide escaped me again.

Film exhibition is going through a major revolution in India, with corporate players setting up country-wide multiplex chains. The majority of theaters in India are still independently owned and single-screen. There are less than 200 multiplexes across the country, compared to more than 10,000 single-screen theaters. However, they generate around 10% of total ticket sales, and account for 35% of box-office collections, because of they normally charge 2 or 3 more than traditional theaters. Observers predict their number could rise to 2-3,000 in the next five years.

A few years ago, multiplexes could only be found in metros, but today, as this article from Mint reports, the wave is also touching small cities. Companies like Adlabs, PVR, Shringar, Pyramid, Inox and Cinemax have very ambitious expansion plans for the next years. All these groups see big opportunities in small cities, as it is there, they claim, that the number of seats available per person is lower. These corporations are also helping create more transparency in the film industry, and pushing for the development of digital cinema in India.

An interesting article from Variety points out the differences, and similiarities between India and China: a growing number of multiplexes, growing share of the box-office for Hollywood movies, but overall, a friendlier environment for foreign investment in India. We give a complete overview of the sector here (including an overview of the major multiplex chains). Also, see our posting on cinema advertising. We have also given a complete overview of Adlabs here.

Here and here are two more interesting articles by Variety: the second one about the release of the 'Simpson' movie in India last summer. Disputes between distributors and exhibitors over the sharing of profits (or losses) are common. Recently, the release of the $ 10 m 'Akbar' (the biggest budget ever for a Bollywood film) was delayed because of these issues.

Crazy title, well im writing this for the sake of it,cant think of a better title.Im just thinking why i havent blogged for 2 months now. That too when i got internet connection a month back.Yes cable net provided by youtelecom, speeds are Okay, unlimited 192 kbps so just downloading movies. For a week i can excuse myself for being having a hectic schedule. i had "graduated" sometime back and am an 'ingineer'.Met few of my friends after a long time, dont know if i will be able to meet them next time. The next week after that went for travel as i travelled from Bangalore-Kalpakkam-Chennai-Kolkatta-Bangalore in 4 days. And Cleartrip had a great offer, 10 movie tickets free @ INOX!!(I never knew the offer existed when i booked, i just booked the cheapest ticket in cleartrip).

Due to worst mistake done by dear pal sanjeev (he read reviews of all movies for 2 hours and booked the worst rated,he says its the problem with the site) during online booking, first movie was worst one "Thotta" on Mar 2.Then back to work and had the "hectic" 10 days release period.Since i had to exhaust remaining 8 tickets, went to 10000 BC and "Black and White" with colleagues in bangalore.Yes the second one being a hindi movie, but now able to understand normal conversions,so movie wasnt so hard to understand.Last week back to chennai for cousin's marriage and went to movie called Vantage point. It was interesting in first half, then it was more like Gaptain's movie with all sort of unimaginable stunts.Met few friends on sunday and went to a good movie atlast in the 10 tickets.Vellithirai was a good flick.

Travelling to and fro to chennai by bus on weekends is pathetic.I wonder why trains are always full. There will be 10 buses lined up and you never know which one you booked for.For 11 clock bus, i came to know that my bus is cancelled and i had to board another bus(1045) only at 1050 and the bus left at 1055 though i was in bus stand at 930 itself and whenever asked about my bus,got a casual reply,it will come and even the conductor doesnt know properly what is the timing. When asked my friend that is it the case only with SETC,he said its with every bus service(even the private fellows).

Meantime i started my hands at cooking also, starting from milk, noodles to ready to eat are now common things.Once a week 'trying' to cook rice also :) But washing vessels is a major pain.

Meanwhile me using windoz, as im unable to(not finding time to) configure my cable internet in ubuntu.Initial googling gave very little results. So if any of you know to connect cable modem in ubuntu, please ping.Expecting some change in Ubuntu 8.04 due next month. Its nice to internet at home.Am almost back to college days, catching up online with friends,(now started blogging also :P),orkutting, watching lollu sabha by downloading, browsing freely.

I have started liking this game tribalwars and playing it for 2 weeks like mad. I dont know when my next post will be, Untill then keep visiting ;)
