Never met the man, I must admit, but his music has had a great influence on my life. I know, he uses

Never met the man, I must admit, but his music has had a great influence on my life. I know, he uses the N-word and the F-word and a lot of other words, too. But there's something about the music that I can't shake no matter how I progress as a spiritual leader, and I think that's just fine.

I find a lot of wisdom and inspiration in hip-hop. If you're hearing a person on MTV or Hot 97, that means that artist has probably overcome some serious obstacles in the pursuit of his goals. So what if his goals aren't your goals. Jay-Z raps. The questions are, 1)what do you do? and 2) whatever you do (could be mopping in a slaughterhouse), do you love it and aim for the type of mastery in it Jay-Z and the other greats bring to their work?

I got thinking about all of this because every now and then, Jay-Z drops a song that I simply can't get out of my head. Right now, it's that "A-billi Remix"--a few months ago, it was "The Roc Boys." "La La La" was another track that I couldn't get enough of a few years back. I won't open up the box and start listing the songs I like and why. Let's just respect it.

If you don't like this particular artist, no problem. But I hope some sort of art, music, architecture, literature, or rhetoric has shaken you to your foundations, helped brilliant ideas find their way into your head, or at least brought a smile to your face. And when you find that thing, keep pressing repeat until you know it by heart and you've squeezed it for all you can. Then find another.

The men he portrayed often possessed a cool, hardened exterior that occasionally let forth a suggestion of romantic or idealistic sentimentality. Bogart also had a unique method of smoking cigarettes in these pictures -- letting the butt dangle from his mouth without removing it until it was almost entirely consumed. It is believed that this habit inspired the current meaning of "bogart," which was once limited to the phrase "Don't bogart that joint [marijuana cigarette]," as popularized by a song on the soundtrack to the film Easy Rider, among other things. Today "bogart" can be applied to hogging almost anything.

When I first heard Jay-Z’s The Black Album their were songs I loved (What More Can I Say, Dirt

When I first heard Jay-Z's The Black Album their were songs I loved (What More Can I Say, Dirt Of Your Shoulder, Encore) songs I hated (Justify Your Thug will never grow on me) and songs that were good. Allure feel into that category.

As time has gone on, Allure has grown on me; not only the beat, but the concept behind it. The extended metaphor of "the life" pulling you back in works both as a wily veteran about to retire and a young hustler who has grown tired of the streets. Its a man coming to term with a decision he doesn't want to make but has to come to terms with.

And thats where my relationship stood with this particular opus...until about a month ago. A friend of mine (I'm looking at you Miles Coltrane aka FeFe Dobson bka Jazzmen) used the term 11ty billion. I had only heard the term used in this song...and it ALWAYS bugged me. Like was its 11ty billion, its not a real number, that shit is made up. If you look on urban dictionary, the terms doesnt so much have a definition as it has a string of words with numerical meaning. All the hate for that word came rushing back, making me question the greatness of the song.

The yesterday, I choose to examine the line that term appears in:

"The game is a light bulb with 11ty billion volts/and I'm just a moth"

Now, in context, the line adds to the metaphor of the song. He's a man, small compared to the attractive pull of the game he loves. Great. Wonderful.

But as my film geek and engineering friends that read this blog will quickly notice, LIGHT BULBS AREN'T MEASURED IN VOLTS. THEY'RE MEASURED IN FUCKING WATTS. So not only is Jay making up numbers, he isn't that keen on the science tip either.

Times like this, I wish i didn't pay attention in science class. That one line destroys the metaphor for me (much like my typo's destroy the flow of my articles lol).

5.Jay Nas and Kanye West Occult Secrets

A bit controversial but there must be something in it given

5.Jay Nas and Kanye West Occult Secrets

A bit controversial but there must be something in it given the poses and the lyrics. It has generated a lot of heat since it was first released and you have to say the editing was great. It is amazing what can be done with home editing and knowledge of Hip Hop. Obviously most people have not studied the influence of the secret societies but given that it has had half a million views that is good going.

4. Puffy Is Poison

This is a very talented comedian and when he said that Mase was preaching like he had a stroke I fell out of my chair. But this raises the question uit seems the record companies are the only ones who are doing out of gangster rap. On a serious note the only constant is P Diddy dancing on his artist records and when they do not sell records he gets to dance on their replacements album.

The one liner he had about LaTito ( a combination of LaToya Jackson and Tito) kids was great.

3. Prosperity Gospel and Hip Hop

Look at the reaction of Creflo Dollar when the woman says he talks to her first billion dollars ? If the prosperity gospel is Christianity then gangster rap is makes produced well arranged music. The video was so very observant.

2.Jay Z back masking

You did not think there was a thought process in hip hop? Well they can get a whole lot of subliminal messages because it is hard to know what they say. The truth Behind Hip Hop has caused a storm with fans being violently against G Craige Lewis but you have to note that he has done his research, I wish he had adopted a teaching style then you could have learnt more form the series.

1. Rick Ross Before They Were Famous

I give it number one status simply because it was vindicated, remeber who the real Rick Ross caused the Crack Cocaine Epidemic with the co-operation of the CIA. Now please remember the biggest taboo is being a snitch and we see that Rick Ross was sheriff> Can his career survive these revelations?

Although revelations have dented the tough exterior of gangster rap I still do not think it will stop women going to clubs dancing to all the profanities against women? I know it will not stop that simply because people are addicted to the beats.

Stumble

I spoke with a friend today about the essence of a entrepreneur, and why it takes a different type

I spoke with a friend today about the essence of a entrepreneur, and why it takes a different type of individual to be able to take a risk in being an entrepreneur. It was a weird conversation for me, he reminded me of myself a few years back, Anxious to become wealthy (wealthy is when money meets wisdom) I explained to him that you need to frequently converse with entrepreneurs, someone that can lift your spirits up and vice versa; It is definitely a roller coaster ride, but the reward is more like a spaceship ride

For Years I thought the Ferrari that I kept in my garage would make me happy (I trade in the current model for next years model every June) But that wasn't happiness, honestly the happiest times in my life were when I was some where ducked off in the books, plotting my latest takeover. Every year I test myself by what is the illest car that I can purchase, most exotic home that I can build, or how can I buy out my competitor for 37% less than what his company is worth. (speaking of worth, KNOW your WORTH.

It wasn't the purchasing of the car that made me happy, nor was it the fact that I could bring my competitors shamelessly to their knees. NO, what actually made me happy was the fact that whatever I decided to do, I actually did it, and done it well. This is A gift, not everyone has the knowledge and wisdom to expand their thinking outside the narrow scope of your daily affairs. Your brain probably has memorized your systematic day, so its naturally not working, its RECITING.

Your brain really works when you test yourself everyday, and that's what an entrpreneur DOES.

Everyone goes through hard times in their lives and many a time due to their own mistakes or mis

Everyone goes through hard times in their lives and many a time due to their own mistakes or misjudgments. It is tough to face the consequences and deal with all the rollercoaster of emotions one expeiences with life and black women are pretty notorious for keeping these matters private. They may talk to their girlfriends or even relatives about what happened with Mr. Man or how they made some silly completely-out-of-character decision but black women will NEVER want this business out in the street.

It's mostly out of pride in that they don't really like to appear, or feel, out of control, vulnerable, or stupid, especially when it involves a bad situation in a romantic relationship. While black women, like most women, like a little attention, black women never want their sensitive matters in the spotlight . They never want their name associated with any type of gossip.

Some higher profile examples of this reality are the love lives of Janet Jackson and Beyonce Knowles. Before Jermaine Dupree, Janet was married to Rene Elizondo, Jr. for several years, and though everyone knew he was her boo, no one knew they were actually married until the divorce came around. Why she kept that a secret? We don't necessarily get why, but we all know that if you are a celeb, the media likes to orchestrate your life, and surely Miss Janet was not going to have that. In Beyonce's case with super famous rapper and oft-collaborator Jay-Z, neither one of them felt they had to confirm their relationship or give any details about their ridiculously obvious 6-year romance! They even married in April, and STILL have not said anything! Though it seems kind of silly, why should Beyonce confirm it? Probably because she wants to be known by her grace as a lady and as a superstar entertainer with lasting global appeal.

Although it's not always all about pride and hiding personal drama, or in a celebrity's case, protecting your personal life and reputation from the relentless tabloids, black women are often raised to have strong personal dignity. This means always being classy and not caught up in gossip circles. In magazines, on television, and celebrity websites, you don't see very many black women celebs, but if you do, they seldom will be in any kind of wild or drunken state. Of course there have been exceptions with some black women ending up with jail time or a DUI (ie. Lil Kim, Vivica Fox), and you do know who has gotten married or had a baby (ie. Halle Berry, Gabrielle Beauvais-Nilon), there will probably never be a black Lindsey Lohan or Paris Hilton. Black women just do not roll like that!

Aside from the entertainment world, you will notice the same sort of "togetherness and grace" from black women on college campuses, in churches or other organizations, or even in the workplace. Black women could be going through a storm, or even a hurricane, and you would never know it. Black women are rarely going to want their "drama" public because they don't want that to be associated with their personas. Most of us want to be seen as mature role models who are always making wise decisions.

Yesterday, the Steel Crew found itself at 1515 Folsom, which was part garage, part art gallery, for "It's Pop It's Art," hosted by Ill-literacy, to celebrate the birthday of Ruby Veridiano-Ching. Featured at the gallery were the artistic creations of our favorite songs. The paintings were song lyrics in very crazy, aesthetic fonts. My two favorite songs were "I Just Wanna Love U" by Jay-Z and "The Littlest Things" by Lily Allen, mostly because those are the ones I recognize by ear. But anyways, now to the real question...

HOW'RE YOU SUPPOSED TO ACT IN AN ART GALLERY?!

An art gallery usually mixes the event of the high-society-inspired tradition of publicly appreciating art with the sadiddyness and bougieness (new vocab ya'll!) of the city's elite. At least, I like to think of it that way. I don't know if I was projecting my insecurities, but the art gallery was split up in schoolyard circles of San Francisco's hipster communities. I think part of it was because everyone in the gallery was locally respected. It was important people afraid to talk to important people. And then there was the Steel Crew (HA!). We were like the shy girl at the party waiting for the boys to talk to us. But I think everyone was thinking the same thing. That is the one common thread of the post college graduate psyche, the hope that meeting people was as easy as it once was at the alma mater. The night loosened up as the free wine was making it way into everyone's liver.

But we did get to meet the mamacita's of Miss Crew! Imagine how ecstatic we were to be inside the secret society, even if it was only for one night. Oh they were delightful and very friendly as they explained what they do, how they blog, etc. And what do they think of Murakami's Monogramouflage?! They love it. They even showed me a picture of the LV design that they took at the Brooklyn Museum. I felt like little kids sharing toys in the sandbox.

Halen Def Jam'e bağlı olan C, özellikle Nas'la feat'i Can't Forget bout You ve Jay-Z'yle yaptığı Lost Ones şarkılarıyla kendini gösterdi.Son olarak The Roots'un Rising Up şarkısında Wale ile birlikte yer aldı.

According to a brief snippet on MTV.com, Timbaland seems to think he is producing Jay-Z's next album. After his admittedly stellar work on Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds, Timbaland has embarked on a relentless assault on the contemporary musical landscape, gobbling up artists like The Hives, Ashlee Simpson, MIA, and Flo-Rida, and spitting out decreasingly inspired spacey-bounce tracks in his wake.

Just when it looked like the lumbering giant might return to hybernation beneath the Atlantic Ocean, he scored a recent hit with Madonna and J-Tim's "4 Minutes" (named for how long it took the team to create it). This seems to have gotten him all fired up again, and he has now locked his sights on Jay-Z. It's not that I don't love "Big Pimpin'," and it's not that Timbo doesn't have some great work under his belt, but his recent track record (every song on "Shock Value" that wasn't a single) has me more than a little worried. "Better believe me," says Timbaland in the MTV clip, "it'll be a monster." That much seems likely.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop?

Remember the good old days of rap? Back when it was either fun to listen too (like Slick Rick) or important to listen too (like Public Enemy)? Well those days aren't over! For every Lil Wayne (can anybody really understand a word of what he is saying?), there is a Kanye West. For every David Banner, there is a Ludacris. Rap ain't dead...you just have to look for the good stuff (such as Nas' new album which came out this week!)...

Me being the whitest guy on the planet, I figured it was time for me to throw out a rap mix. It consists of some older rap artists and some new rap artists. These artists have made a contribution to the genre and made it better every time they lay a track down. Here's 8 great rap tracks...Enjoy!

1. Jurassic 5 - "What's Golden"

2. Public Enemy - "Who Stole The Soul"

3. Tupac - "Death Around The Corner"

4. Nas - "Sly Fox"

5. Jay Z - "99 Problems"

6. EPMD - "You Gots To Chill"

7. Missy Elliott - "Sock It To Me"

8. Slick Rick - "Children's Story"

Is one of my fave five emcees. This guy has a mind unlike anyone else's. I won't go through the meaninglessness of comparing him to his contempraries, because, we all learned from 2001-2005 that our comparisons meant nada, that he and another GOAT candidate were like Apples and oranges, they were just plain different and there wasn't too much common ground between them. I won't go into a full review of his new disc or post a link to one. I will say that IN MY OPINION, this is his best offering since Illmatic, and cements his spot in the Top 3 (which was mentioned in a song years ago by his former adversary.) Hero and the song w/ Chris Brown are reaches for commercial hits, but NaS doesn't compromise what he was saying for sake of spins, no matter how hokey the personnel selection for those two tracks. I love it, and I'm givin 5 Mics. Hell, if the source were a credible magazine, they would too.

Here's some classic Nasir:

There are very few artists/people who could get us out of London to see a gig, but let's be real, seeing Jay-Z live isn't 'just a gig' - It had to be done! The Jigga Man has been everywhere in the UK as of late (Glastonbury, O2 Wireless etc), but for some reason, decided against doing a tour date here in London (No O2?). So we decided we would travel to the English coast and see Hova on stage, doin his thing, by himself...

It was a touch that we had crew members living IN Bournemouth (Uni purposes), who ever so kindly put up for the night!

...MUCHO LOVE to our lovely host Belle!

Luckily for us, Jay-Z brought the sunshine with him to Bournemouth too...We spent the day on the beach, catching some rays (my skin had forgotten what sunshine felt like!), eating, jokin and generally soaking it up. I'd never been to Bournemouth before and was told how lovely it was, but I was genuinely astonished by HOW buff it was!

So yea, we hit the beach...

^ Excuse our (London) ignorance, but who knew England had such buff, clear beaches?

^ REAL sand? No stones/pebbles? Love it.

We were also introduced to THE most amazing shop. It's sole purpose was to create EVERY imaginable Milkshake you can possibly think of...

^ I got the Oreo & Hershey-Cookie Shake *DAAAYUUM*. The combinations were endless tho! London, you need to fix up and get this!

After a day of fun, we headed back to our temporary lodgings, ate some [good, good home cooked] food and headed down to the BIC to get down to bizness...

We were instantly surprised at how small the venue was! It was both amazing and weird. I love small venues, who doesn't? And to see Jay-Z in such a small, intimate space got us hyped, but I kinda felt like someone lied to Jay-Z before he agreed to play there LMAO! The venue was basically a graduation hall and kinda looked like a basketball court?

The other noticeable thing was...we CLEARLY were not in London. LOL. I don't want to offend anyone out there from Bournemouth, coz your town is pretty fly, but sorry, your swagger is not. It's crazy. It's amazing how out of place we (Londoner's) feel when we're outside our bubble. I felt like an alien...Ok. That's enough of that, Bournemouth showed us love, so we ain't gonna come too hard on you lol!

...Back to bizness...

Mark Ronson was the supporting act...

I wish I could have been excited to see him, but having previously experienced his show live (the tickets were free) I was less than impressed. No hateration, just ain't my kinda thing. However, I was pleasantly surprised with a couple of his surprise acts...

^ Wale came through and rocked the mic! Was overly happy to see him do his thing live coz I've been rinsing his mixtape for minute now!

^ Man of the moment, Mr Usually Drink, Usually Dance, Usually Bubble came on and did his thing!

And then...

I BUGGED OUT! Seriously, I lost my cool and went mad. Jay-Z right there, in front of me? Confuse you? The whole place went mad. It felt like the roof was about to pop off. Jigga looked overly happs.

Now as most of you will know (from previous gig posts), I'm not great with set lists, so I ain't even gonna bother trying too tough. All I know is, Jay started with some "American Gangster" sh*t including "Pray", "Hello Brooklyn 2.0" and "Rock Boys"...

^ Of course, Bleek came on and gave Jigga a hand...

During one point of the gig, Jay-Z shouted out "London" to a very confused and dazed crowd. LOL. Soon as our lil clique heard that word, we went crraaaazzzy...! Receiving some what evil looks from the rest of the audience. What a perfect mistake to make? Bournemouth [effectively] got boi'd. Sorry.

Tunes like "99 Problems", "Big Pimpin'" & "Public Announcement" kept coming, but I must say, I was wanting some more classic stuff. And not just the 'classic hits' but, classic joints from that back catalogue Jigga has worked tirelessly to create! You know, those tunes that rarely see the light of day...But I understood that you can't always do those kinda tunes coz you gotta please everyone etc...

PinBoard Footage: "N***a What, N***a Who"

Other songs included: "Girls, Girls, Girls", "Crazy In Love" [No Beyonce], "Umbrella", "American Boy", "A Billie", "Say Hello", "Dirty Off Your Shoulder", "Izzo (Hova)" and "Show Me What You Got" amongst a whole heap of others...

And of course, Hov ended the evening with a rendition of "Encore"...

After the gig, we headed to the Jay-Z/Mark Ronson after party @ the 20/20 club (not to be confused with Jay-Z's 40/40 club LOOOOL!). YoYo took over the venue, with Mark Ronson, Seb Chew & crew on the decks. The party was very...Bournemouth-ish.

...It was pretty dry, but in that very "Stoosh London" type of way. Everyone was having a heavi time, but we weren't feeling it at all. It was kinda odd, but enjoyable in any case. We raved for a bit and then headed back, which lead to a whole heap of mess/drama involving a very, very, very drunk friend of a friend. But, that's for another time...

For me, seeing Jay-Z live was true moment. It's easy to underestimate how important and legendary this man is, especially as he's been everywhere recently. But to witness what it is, Jay-Z does is truly special. I've listened, watched and admired Hova since I was a kid and so, to see him live was a monumental moment in my life...

Peace, Love & Jay-Z Rocked Bournemouth

Maybe.

Timbo recently told MTV News:

"We wanna go to the world. The world is 'Big Pimpin'.' 'Big Pimpin' is an international hit, so we wanna do 10 of those. ... I'mma have songs with bagpipes. The music is gonna be so worldwide, he'll be able to tour the rest of his life, maybe, off just this one album. The Jay-Z album is gonna be phenomenal. You know why? We don't care. We're doing great music just to do it. We doing it for our fans who love us to say we ain't quit. I'm doing it 'cause that's my homeboy."

I don't really know how I feel about this. Tim is a hit-maker and so is Jay, and they both have a ton, so do they really need any more? I really don't want this album to be a bunch of Justin Timberlake-esque singles that have minimal long term appeal. What Jay needs is a producer who can bring out the best in him lyrically, with the hits to follow. Not the other way around.

Jay and Tim did 'Big Pimpin' and 'Dirt off Your Shoulder' which were both incredible songs, but we don't need a full album of songs like that. Jay is past that, he needs to refine his craft and make artistically relevant music. An album produced by Kanye West would do the trick.

Regardless, if the rumor is true, I still can't wait to hear the album.

My prediction is Timbaland will produce most of the tracks, with P. Diddy and Kanye likely making at least one appearance each. We'll see...

That's what the New York Times wants to know in their profile (more puff piece) of Nduka Obiagbena, the media mogul behind Nigeria's Rising This Day Awards; an annual party in the commercial capital Lagos (here's a link to pictures from this year's festivities held last week) for which Obiagbena flies in American music stars like Jay Z, Mary J Blige and Usher and people like Paul Begala (huh?).

Here we go with part 2, numbers 5-1 of the best early 90s Hip Hop songs:

5. NAS - REPRESENT

NAS was huge as soon as Illmatic came out. Fresh out Queensbridge (also home to Mobb Deep), NAS would help transform hip-hop into Gangsta rap. If you were to map out the lineage of this music he'd be in the center, the bridge from Big Daddy Kane and Rakim to 50 cent and Jay-Z (although Jay-Z would disagree). Most people would have put "life's a bitch" as the selected single, but I've always felt this track has something more.

4. A TRIBE CALLED QUEST - OH MY GOD w/ Busta Rhymes

Tribe is the epitome of that early 90s hip hop sound; uplifting lyrics and soft beats. And while the rest of New York would soon abandon it in favor of hardcore rap, Tribe would stay true to its origins, releasing 5 albums until their eventual break up in the late 90s. Their influence can be seen on many modern artists including Common, Blackstar, and Lupe Fiasco. There's tons of singles I could have selected for this (scenario, bonita aplebaum, can i kick it, etc.) but I wanted to see a bit more of early Busta. Plus the videos a throw to spike lee's Do the right thing (1989).

3. THE BEASTIE BOYS - SO WHAT'CHA WANT

Already established, the Beastie Boys were capable of doing of producing a variety of sounds. While Paul's Boutique was a step away from the cheesy, early hip-hop of License to Ill, check your head was the return to the NY sound. Mostly, I find it amazing that three white, upper class, jewish kids stayed relevant for so long.

2. THE NOTORIOUS BIG - JUICY

You can't talk about 90s hip hop, or any hip hop, without talking about BIG, his explosion onto the scene changed everything. Thanks largely in part to Puffy's melodic beats, Biggie's rhymes about drugs, would become more acceptable and gangsta rap was born. Now there's two types of rap, BB and AB, before biggie and after biggie (I know you Tupac fans would disagree but lets remember, he wasn't always gangsta, I do recall a small stint with Digital Underground.)

1.	THE WU TANG CLAN - C.R.E.A.M

And then there was Wu-Tang. While everyone was rapping about parties and black power and anything else, Wu Tang was telling tales of New York's dirty underbelly. They were gangsta rap before there was gangsta rap and no one did it better. Anything off of 36 chambers could have worked for this post but I chose cream because Cash still Rules Everything Around Me.

There's a lot of other artists and songs that could go on this list. Please post other songs you like, I'd love to see them. AND GO WATCH THE WACKNESS, IT'S GREAT.

There’s a considerable list of hip hop related news and tracks that I’m excited about to

There's a considerable list of hip hop related news and tracks that I'm excited about today, so rather than giving each the post it probably deserves or I would give it on a slow day, I'm just going to summarize:

Jay-Z has already mentioned that he's ready to get back in the studio, and it might be even more interesting given the fact that Timbaland claims that he will be producing the whole next effort. Obviously, Jay can get pretty much anyone to produce for him, but Timbaland claims that they want this album to have "10" "Big Pimpin'"s (their previous collaboration). We'll see. Timbaland was pretty hot two years ago, but his style has sort of stagnated since then. I'm dubious, especially considering Jay's record of following good albums with disappointing ones. I mean, I thought American Gangster was pretty good.

Flava Flav's got a kid! Does this mean that there won't be a Flavor of Love 3? What will I watch at the gym now? I'm probably going to gain weight because of this.

I'm back with a Just track. Actually a video of him in a DJ battle with DJ Delinger. I actually think he kind of got beaten in this battle, but both DJs are damn good.

Is Kanye using a ghost blogger? This is an interesting read from Marcus Troy, and it definitely poses some obvious questions about Kanye's ability to post so many sweet architectural plans and make really good music. I think it's pretty clear that Kanye writes his own personal rant posts (ex. "Anger Enhancement"), and I would guess that he has a pretty big army of people sending him sweet design links to promote their products, so it's not like he has to spend 8 hours a day on the Internet looking for expensive shit to link to. At the same time, there is probably somebody who at least screens these links even if Kanye does the actual posting. So yeah, Marcus is probably partly right, but does it matter? Kanye manages to put out a pretty interesting blog, and I'm sure nothing would get posted on it that he doesn't like because he's too neurotic for that. I'll still read it. But having a ghost blogger probably is a pretty good strategy for a rapper trying to promote him or herself. I'm unemployed at the moment, by the way. You know, if you're some label exec reading this

I always like Freeway (see above reference), and Polow da Don's beat is pretty damn good, so I'd grab this Hero Freestyle from Free if I were you.

Mickey Factz released The Leak #30. It's two tracks, "We Ain't" featuring Tanya Morgan and "Keys of Life" featuring Robin Thicke. They're both pretty good. I might review them at some point, but I'll let Mickey's facts (lolz) sum them up for now. On "We Ain't":

“Still moving forward, never trapped in the present”

For week #30, I wanted to do the 2 for 1 sale. So I jumped in the studio with Tanya Morgan and made some shit! Some real Hip Hop shit. Gotta respect it.

On "Keys of Life":

“I had dreams of being a black president”

The black and white keys on the piano inspired Paul McCaurtney and Stevie Wonder to write about racial equality. I’m doing the same thing but in the eyes of 2 young kids struggling with racism. Deep…

Also, probably the news that has me the most excited, is that J Dilla's brother, Illa J (seriously, though?), is planning on releasing an album with a bunch of unreleased Dilla beats from around the mid-nineties. I can't help but be excited about new tracks from the greatest. I just hope this doesn't turn into one of those Tupac situations.
