Watched this film last night been wanting to see it since it came out but never really had the chance to. I wasn't really expecting much from it but I was pleasently surpirsed. The suspense in parts of the film is brillaint and the special effects are excellently done, especially in the plane scene. I wasn't too keen on the whole superman thing but this film has changed my mind. As for the "new" superman, Brandon Routh fits perfectly into the role. The only thing I didn't really like about it was Kevin Spacey's portrayel of Lex Luther, I just think his overall appearence wasn't that "evil" and you couldn't really take him seriously, I just wish he was a bit "darker". Everything else was perfect in my opinion.

The film suggests that it is open for a sequal in parts, which I'm not going to give away. Plus I've also read up that director Bryan Singer has confirmed that he is working on a sequal to be released in 2009, bring it on I say.

If you haven't seen it already check out the trailer.

The Life of David Gale (-03).

I got to see Hurlyburly for the second time, it has become my 2nd favorite film of all time.

It is based on a great play, and has some of the sharpest, smartest dialogue I have ever heard,

it was hard to find clips for it, but check this out:

It stars a great cast including a great sean penn, a very sexy meg ryan (who does that tanktop-bra strap thing I have wrote about), a very sweet anna paquin, and many others.

the sean penn role reminds me of me when I was younger, wildier, and yes a little bit happier....

I wish I could find a clip of the end scene, it's pretty great.

Roteiro: Peter Steinfeld, Allan Loeb

FRONTIER(S) ( 2008 )
This French-made blood bath follows the familiar (and reliable) Texas Chainsaw Massacre template. On the lam after a heist during a riot sparked by a controversial Franco-election, four young criminals (one a pregnant, guilt-crippled girl) find their way to a peaceful-seeming (seeming!) inn, en route to Amsterdam. Unfortunately for them the place is thick with cannibal Nazis living in a bizarre familial cult. Within the first half hour the gore-splattered survival horror begins and there’s little time to breath on the way to the ultra-violent, though thought-provoking finale. Frontier(s) scores big with beautifully cold earthy cinematography, effectively inducing dread. There are plenty of visceral thrills and enough smart surprising moments, great charachterization and solid performances to make this a stand-out not to be dismissed as the kind of torture-porn crap pushed by Rob Zombie and Eli Roth.

ROMAN POLANSKI: WANTED AND DESIRED ( 2008 )
This made-for-HBO doc offers a fairly nonjudgemental look at the genius/perv director's 1978 conviction for the statutory rape of a 13 year old girl and the dramatic life that led up to it. Some time is spent on his devastation over the murder of his wife, Sharon Tate, at the hands of Charles Manson's "family" -- but the primary focus is the rape case, the difference between European and American reactions to that case and the unbelievable legal clusterfuck that forced him to flee the country soon after. (He's never returned to America and would be immediately arrested if he did). There's some nice use of soundtrack music from his biggest hit, Rosmary's Baby, and judiciously doled out clips of his oveure. There are several illuminating clips from old interviews as well as new interviews with the people that knew him best (not to mention, a few moments spent with the rape victim today). It's all surprisingly less skeezy than it sounds and probably one of the best bio-docs I've seen, on par with Crumb.

RECOUNT ( 2008 )
This made-for-HBO movie is a nicely-balanced all-star take on the weeks directly following the 2000 Bush/Gore election fiasco. No matter whose side you're on, you have to appreciate the straightforward stick-to-the-facts historically-accurate screenplay. Kevin Spacey is typically (almost mundanely) good as Gore strategist, Ron Klain and I enjoy Tom Wilkinson (as Bush's) a little more every time he pops up in a movie. The top performance, though, is from a practically unrecognizable Laura Dern as flighty, clueless, self-absorbed Florida Secretary of State, Katherine Harris. Things start to drag a little in middle and unfortunately we know how it ends but for a political movie, it's more entertaining than most.
**1/2

FANTASTIC FOUR, THE (2005)
Jessica Alba can’t act, Dr. Doom is about as menacing as a the Tin Man, the sfx are unimpressive and The Thing looks a lot like a dried-up clump of crumbling crap, but FF still has a few things going for it. Probably the most kid-ready of the Marvel Comics adaptations, this story delivers the genesis tale of the super team (in space…atomic mutation from a…space thingy…or something) made up of The Thing (Michael Chiklis), Alba’s Invisible Woman, Ioan Gruffudd as Mr. Fantastic and Chris Evans as the Human Torch. There’s a little too much bitchy in-fighting and not enough clobberin’ time, but there’s something sincere about the way the story rolls that’s reminicent of Chris Reeves’ Superman. It’s a fun afternoon diversion that won’t stick with you for very long after the credits roll. **

4: RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER (aka Fantastic Four 2) (2007)
Although I don’t remember anyone clammoring for a sequel, FF2 delivers what the original didn’t — particularly action and better effects. The mysterious Silver Surfer has arrived on earth to ultimately destroy it with his matter-mutating powers. But it turns out he’s really not a bad guy, and with a voice like Larry Fishburne’s and that sleek silvery surf board how could you hate him? Dr. Doom returns as nothing more than a minor plot device. Characters, having been clumsily and broadly defined in the original seem to make a little more sense this time and the authentic comic-booky writing keeps things light and fun. Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman’s wedding is a central focus, filling the comic book movie’s mandatory-seeming love-is-hard-when-you’re-a-superhero-story quota. As forgettable as the original but far more fun and a solid entry into Marvel’s impressive roster of superhero movies.**1/2

And now, Kevin Spacey is going to be a professor at Oxford, starting this October.

Hmm. Sounds a bit like a plan of mine to be in Europe (home base Germany, but -- this is the important bit -- perhaps making a visit to friends at Oxford from time to time) for about a year, starting this October. Hope against hope...could I sit in on a lecture/workshop/seminar? I might explode with fervor, somewhat akin to what happened to my senses after seeing Speed-the-Plow this past March.

Goodness knows how strict Oxford can be about such things, though. When I was there last, I couldn't see any of the buildings because I was there on a bad day for visiting and I wasn't a student of the university. Further, what self-respecting university would hire a movie star to be a professor without making some strict rules about sitting in on class? Well, we shall see what happens; but goodness knows I will do everything in my power to see that something wonderful comes of this! (Somewhat akin to my tenacity when it came to getting Speed-the-Plow tickets. :))

Okay, so I'll play catch up a little. Last week, I...that is moi, Roxanna Danae, directed a scene of 'Pygmalion' on the stage of the Old Vic theatre in London. I say that with an air of theatrical snobbery much akin to the likes of Frasier Crane because...well, why not. It was fantasmical! The associate director of Pygmalion is a chick called Cordelia Monsey who is closely connected with theatre leg (end) Peter Hall. There were about 7 directors including little me who comes from a modest film background with zero experience on le stage whatsoever...unlike those guys who actually are fringe directors...so yes, the nerves were present. There were about 30 actors who came in and we were split off into groups where we had to rehearse a scene and then perform it on the stage for general critique and humiliation. Some of the guys just didn't want to take the criticism. 'Oh no, I meant to have that actor's back to the stage. It was an artistic choice.' Yes. I'm sure it was.

For those of you raggedy muffins who don't know, 'My Fair Lady' is a version of 'Pygmalion' almost entirely identical with the minor exception that it is not actually a musical and there is no racecourse scene and therefore, to my utter devastation, no 'Come on Dover, move your bloomin' arse!' Nevertheless, my scene was the one in which Higgins and Pickering come in from the ball (in the play it's a garden party) with Eliza in toe, only they forget she exists, instead choosing to congratulate themselves in their public-school-boy-testosterone-induced manner with lots of back slapping and 'welldone, old chap'. It's a scene both poignant and melancholy, addressing issues of class and sexuality. Anyway the scene went well, particularly as we only had 25 minutes or so to work with it and Monsey was chuffed with my work so that helped to produce a warm glow in my belly. I'd love to do more in the theatre; I mean if nothing else it gives you the right to be just a tad pretentious.

Wanting a scholarship to transfer to Harvard School of Medicine with the desire to become a doctor, Ben learns that he cannot afford the $300,000 for the four to five years of school since he comes from a poor, working-class background. But one evening, Ben is introduced by his unorthodox math professor Micky Rosa into a small but secretive club of five students, Jill, Choi, Kianna, and Jimmy whom are being trained by Professor Rosa of the skill of card counting at blackjack. Intriged by the desire to make money, Ben joins his new friends on secret weekend trips to Las Vegas where, using their skills of code talk and hand signals, they have Ben make hundreds of thousands of dollars in winning blackjack at casino after casino. Ben only wants to make enough money for the tuition to Harvard and then back out. But as fellow card counter, Jill Taylor, predicts, Ben becomes corrupted by greed and his arrogance at winning which lets his feelings get in the way, and it also puts Professor Rosa, as well as the group, on the radar of a brutal casino security enforcer, named Cole Williams, who holds a personal grudge of some kind against Rosa which threatens to undo everything the students have learned and earned.

Dear BBC,
I have been watching your recent series of ‘I’d Do Anything’ with great

Dear BBC,

I have been watching your recent series of 'I'd Do Anything' with great interest, and was particularly delighted to see such a worth winner as Jodie Prenger emerge in this week's final. It seems that there has already been much speculation as to whether you will be producing another series of the 'find-a-star' format next year, given the level of criticism that the show received earlier this series.

Personally, I would be very disappointed if you decided against commissioning a new series, and I know many other people who feel similarly. However, before making a decision, I would encourage you to consider my suggestions on how the show could be improved next time around. With these changes, I believe you will be able to answer much of the criticism that has been levelled at you in the press. You may even find that it is popular with the viewers at home, thereby increasing audience figures.

My five-point plan is therefore as follows:

1. Cast one part, not two
It was an intriguing idea to search for Nancy and Oliver in this series, but I would recommend returning to the original format in coming series. In many ways, the search for Oliver proved a distraction, as it was very difficult for the viewing to get excited about the search for Oliver given that they couldn't vote on that part of the competition. It was also pretty difficult to form an impression of the boys, as there just wasn't enough time dedicated to them during the show itself.

2. Concentrate on musical theatre songs
I don't understand why you were so afraid of letting the girls sing songs from shows. There was only 1 week in the entire series when all girls had to sing a song from a musical, which seems entirely ridiculous as the whole point of the series was to find someone to star of the West End stage. Singing songs from musicals also helps show up when people might not be quite ready - I'm thinking in particular of Samantha who did a great job with pop numbers, but struggled with 'Somewhere' from West Side Story and 'Defying Gravity' from Wicked. If there is a next series, please stop worrying soi much about viewing figures, and remember what the show is about.

3. Be consistent about whether you want experience
If you don't want the winner to have professional training, then don't put anyone with professional training through to the live shows. It was completely unfair on the girls who made it that far, as they didn't deserve to cope with the the furore over comments from Kevin Spacey. Rachel and Sarah both suffered in this series from incessant comments by Andrew Lloyd Webber about their professional training. Was the series meant to be about raw talent, or readiness to play the role 8 times a week? Make up your mind next time please.

4. Improve the judges panel
The judges panel was substantially weakened this year, after losing 2 excellent judges from last time. I understand why it was better not to have a producer on the panel, which accounts for Bill Kenright's absence, but I still cannot understand why Zoe Tyler, a fantastic judge last time around, was replaced by Barry Humphries. The panel was much weaker without a singing coach who could really pick up on vocal quality, and it left a clear imbalance in the judges, with 3 performances, but no producer, coach or director. Next time, I'd recommend reinstating Zoe Tyler, or finding another vocal expert.

5. Produce more programmes linked to the show
I suspect the criticism from Kevin Spacey (and others) earlier this series was hard to take. Unfortunately, some of what he said did make real sense. it's about time the BBC did more for theatre in general, and the lack of theatre coverage is embarrassing for a public service broadcaster. As I've said before, I don't the answer would be to stop making programmes like 'I'd Do Anything' - instead, I would encourage you to use the next series as a platform for increased theatre coverage. You have a fantastic opportunity to take a large, excited audience, and show them more about the theatre. It would be easy to make programmes about theatre, musicals and drama, and use the main show to advertise them to the wider audience. How about a proper weekly theatre round-up (like its Film equivalent) to start the ball rolling?
In conclusion
I have been a fan of all of 'How do you solve a problem like Maria', 'Any Dream Will Do' and 'I'd Do Anything', and am still hopeful that you will be commissioning another series next year. However, I think it's important that the BBC continues to look for ways to improve an already successful formula. I hope my suggestions above might prove a useful starting point.

Kind regards

Apakah cuma satu orang ?

Satu sehari, satu seminggu, satu sebulan ? Apa kita cuma mendapat kebaikan? Apa kita cuma mengharap kebaikan? Berapa kebaikan yang kita telah berikan? Satu sehari, satu seminggu, satu sebulan ? Hehehehe.. cuma kita yang bisa menjawabnya.

Beberapa waktu yang lalu aku membaca buku berjudul Pay It Forward. Sudah di filmkan oleh Warner Bros dengan bintang Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, dan Haley Joel Osment. Di situ dikisahkan tentang seorang anak bernama Trevor mempunyai ide ketika diminta membuat school project dengan judul Do something to change the world , yaitu melakukan kebaikan kepada 3 orang dengan aturan bahwa 3 orang tersebut akan membalas kebaikannya dengan memberikan pertolongan kepada 3 orang lain lagi.

You do a favour that really helps someone and tell him or her NOT to pay it back. But to pay it forward to THREE other people who, in turn, each pay it forward to three more..

Begini cara melakukannya.

Pay It Forward.

Nb : Terimakasih sebesar-besarnya buat mas Dian, orang baikdi Jakarta, di Plasa Telkom Gatot Subroto.

Recount, the made-for-HBO docudrama about the fiercely contested 2000 US presidential election, is beautifully Aaron Sorkin-esque.

The two-hour series is an immense film; a harrowing tale of the fierce, domestic challenge for control of the western world. It's one for the political junkies, the West Wing viewers who traded in their seven seasons of the Martin Sheen starrer for the $200 box set, just to glimpse the 30 minute documentary disc.

Laura Dern is incredibly revealing as Secretary of State/Bush make up tin, while Kevin Spacey is similarly Sam Seaborne-esque.

Film critic Roger Ebert:

You might assume the movie is pro-Gore and anti-Bush, but you would not be quite right. Dave Grusin's almost eerie score evokes a journey into uncharted territories and haunted lands, but that's as close as it comes to making a statement (other than the incredulity voiced by the losers). The Democratic Party figures portrayed in the film have been the loudest in protest, especially Warren Christopher (John Hurt), who was the first head of the Gore team, and is portrayed as a wimp ready to cave in to the GOP. Whether the film is fair to him I cannot say.

The movie will roll out internationally as the current US election heats up; Channel 4 and the BBC are understood to be vying for UK terrestrial and digital rights.

I just finished watching a movie on HBO called “Recount.” It followed one of Al Gore’s campaig

I just finished watching a movie on HBO called “Recount.” It followed one of Al Gore’s campaign coordinators (played by Kevin Spacey, one of my favorite actors) during the protracted 2000 election crisis. It was painfully depressing to watch; I was only 13 when the actual events took place, so it filled a lot of holes in my memory and knowledge of the events. Back in 2000, my political knowledge consisted of what I could regurgitate from my conservative environment, so I blindly followed the “Sore Loserman” narrative, when in truth the situation was far more complicated and far more corrupt.

My favorite scene showed Spacey’s character getting drunk with a friend while watching a Bush lawyer spin unflattering reality into political narrative; a bit slurringly, he lists off all the things wrong with the Florida election: the fact that the authority to call the election and authorize recounts rested with the head of Bush’s Florida campaign, the fact that the state disenfranchised over 20,000 black voters with a wildly inaccurate “purge list,” and most disturbing, the fact that no one seemed to give a rat’s ass. “Doesn’t anyone care?” he moans over his liquor. It’s all well and good to expose when someone’s breaking all standards of legality and decency, but apparently that’s not enough; you have to convince people that it matters.

It seems like this attitude has gotten worse and worse over the years, as our current leaders have continuously shifted the goalposts of acceptable and legal behavior (or maybe I’m just able to see it more clearly now that I’m older). You can turn on a TV or log on to a computer at any time and immediately find evidence of the White House lying to the public, presenting false evidence to support its agenda, breaking federal law, defying the Constitution, defying international accords—hell, you can find administration officials admitting to a lot of this. But those admissions always have a smug tone: “yeah, we’re holding people indefinitely and torturing them in secret military prisons…what of it?” It’s because they know that no one will do anything about it, and sure enough, people blow it off and marginalize it into the realm of “political matters.” Instead of acting on evidence that the White House is breaking the law, lawmakers and pundits turn whether they should be allowed to do it into a political talking point, thus absolving them from punishment. Habeas Corpus may be written into our Constitution, but now it’s a matter of political opinion; it’s a different take on a national security issue, not blatant high treason.

I normally blast people who whine about partisanship, and I belong to the school of thought that says anyone who claims not to be partisan either doesn’t know enough about politics or just doesn’t like them. But in the case of people turning their backs on the law because their party’s interest would be better served that way, I can’t help but decry such a selfish and dishonest affront to liberty. At some point, we have to put the welfare of our country, its citizens, and the world at large over party affiliation; this is the attitude that Gore adopted when he finally conceded the 2000 election, but unfortunately for all of us, the other side did not follow suit.
