The New Doc

My parents recently started seeing a young female doctor here in the area. Seeing as how my current doctor is over 2 hours away from where I live, I figured I would go ahead and make an appointment to get established with this local doctor in case I should ever keel over before I get back up to my current Doctor.

Due to my long, Bible-length medical history and the endless 8 1/2 year lawsuit nightmare that I have been caught in, I have been hesitant to go see any new Doctors since I became disabled. My current Doc knows me, knows the whole story, and has basically been my main Health care Provider since I became hurt.

I decided that when this new Doctor walked into the room, I would give her the gory eight years of details in about 10 minutes, tell her all about the lawsuit, show her my disabilities, and then let her make the decision on whether she wanted to be saddled with me as a new patient.

Before I knew it, she entered the exam room after I had been waiting only a short period of time. Before she could say a word, I introduced myself and launched right into my rehearsed 10 minute speech detailing my myriad of health and legal nightmares. Like a classically trained actor, I glided from side to side in the room as if on stage, wildly waving my arms to emphasize important points in my story, and utilized a stack of digital photos I had brought to better visualize what I was describing. Before I knew it, I was up on the exam table without prompting from the Doctor and was almost completely disrobed, graphically pulling, spreading, twisting, pushing, and gyrating a vast variety of body parts too sensitive to name here. I figured that this lady was going to get to hear and see the entire picture on my sad state, no matter what.

Just as I was finished graphically displaying yet another body part, I noticed the woman was pale and looked quite Ill. The sight of me in late stages of undress has this affect on many people,....ask the wife.

My presentation was nearly complete. After an extended period of crying, uncontrolled sobbing and hysterics, and after showing numerous photos of my dear, sweet children, I asked the Doc if she would indeed take me on as a new patient.

She wiped a tear from her eye, swallowed once, and said in a soft voice, "Sir..I am Melinda, I am from the records office, I came into get your information so I could request your medical records...."

I hate seeing new Doctors!

Cuba helps train 23,000 foreign medical students

Havana (VNA) – The number of foreigners registering to study for health careers in Cuba has reached over 22,700 students this year, according to local media reports.

The foreign students are studying in the fields of medicine, dentistry, nursing, technology, and health psychology, the Prensa Latina quoted sources from the Public Health Ministry as saying.

The students, most of whom are from tri-continental countries, qualify for Cuban governmental scholarships as part of its traditional policy of solidarity.

According to the news agency, total registration for medical sciences this year is approximately 200,000 students, an unprecedented figure in Cuban history.

Cuba has four Higher Institutes of Medical Sciences and 24 medical schools, four in dentistry, an equal number in nursing and technology, plus 30 municipal branch offices.

The island is currently training somewhere in the region of 53,000 students from 89 countries across the world. –

PAKISTAN: PASTOR SUFFERS POLICE ATTACKS, DEATH THREATS

ISTANBUL, October 9 (Compass Direct News) – A Pakistani pastor and his family in Punjab province have been living in fear for months after death threats from a murder suspect and repeated attacks on their house by police squads.

Pastor Christopher Manzer, 55, of Jhugian Baja Singh, told Compass by telephone that a Muslim man blames him for the loss of his wife and unborn baby and has enlisted extremist Muslim groups to mount a wave of attacks on him.

“I’m a Christian pastor, and in Pakistan you know it is a trend to hurt the Christians,” said Manzer, pastor of Pentecostal Church of Jesus Disciples, by telephone from Jhugian Baja Singh, 26 kilometers (16 miles) southwest of Lahore. “Most Christians are suffering very much.”

Mohammad Nawaz considers the pastor responsible for his divorce and the subsequent deaths of his ex-wife and unborn baby following an abortion. Nawaz’s uncle, a man identified only as Makha whom Nishter Colony police are seeking in connection with the murders of two Christian men in the past three months, has called the pastor twice telling him to leave town or die.

Manzer said he received the first death threat from Makha on Sept. 21, and then again on Saturday (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m.

“Be careful, I’m going to kill you – you have only a few days left in the world … your days are numbered,” Makha told Manzer on the phone last month.

“He is still receiving death threats,” said Shahzad Kamran of Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan (SLMP). “Makha is giving life threats to Pastor Christopher and telling him to leave the area and go to another place, otherwise they we will kill him and his family. They are afraid.”

Seeds of Grudge

Nawaz and the daughter of a member of Manzer’s church converted to Islam in order to elope, hoping that Islamic law would shield them from their families, who were opposed to their marriage.

Convinced that his daughter, Sana Bibi, had been kidnapped, Anwer Masih sought help from Manzer and others to get her back. Soon after Nawaz and Bibi were married, Nawaz became increasingly Islamic in his views, prompting her to seek help from her family to find a way out of the marriage.

Manzer stepped in to help reconcile Masih to his daughter, forgive her and take her back. On July 16, 2007 she filed for divorce, which was approved on March 28. In January, Nawaz had opened a dispute case against Manzer and Masih. A Pakistani court dismissed the case.

Bibi returned to her Christian faith and practices with the encouragement of Manzer. On April 7, however, members of the Liberty police station in Lahore broke into Manzer’s house, kicked him and beat him with sticks for an hour, verbally harassing him and his wife as well as their four children, ages 8 to 21.

Manzer was able to identify the police station because of the van that officers drove and parked near his house. The officers handcuffed him and took him to his church, where believers were gathered for a prayer meeting, and continued to beat him.

This was the first of five beatings and arrests by officers of police stations from other townships around Lahore. Each time friends came to Manzer’s rescue with a bribe, police relented and claimed to have caught the wrong man. The pastor said that paying police to keep them from beating him has exhausted his and his parishioners’ finances.

He said the beatings, which occurred twice in the middle of the night at his home, twice at the church and once at the police station, took place between April 7 and July 5. On two occasions Manzer was able to identify the responsible police station as Model Town Lahore.

The police station of his area, Manga Mandi, supports the pastor but cannot take action against other police stations, a station officer reportedly told the pastor.

On Aug. 26, Nawaz opened a second court case in a First Incident Report (FIR) at Manga Mandi police station against Manzer, Masih and seven other individuals, accusing them of forcibly entering his house in January, physically attacking him and his family and kidnapping Bibi. He further claimed that they threatened to kill him and stole 10,000 rupees (US$125) and gold objects.

“It is a fabricated story,” said Kamran of the SLMP.

Masih told SLMP staff, “Nawaz has relations with some Muslims who support him; he already has implicated us in a false case of quarrel … Now he again implicated us in a murder case of my daughter.”

In May, about five months after Bibi left Nawaz, she was admitted into the hospital with a high fever. She was treated by a midwife but died on May 27. SLMP staff confirmed that she had been pregnant and had had an abortion. According to her medical report, she died due to septic shock.

Manzer said Nawaz enlisted the help of extremist Muslims and his uncle out of anger over his ordeal and because Manzer was acquitted in the first court case against him in January.

“When Muslim groups saw the local police’s good behavior toward me, they approached Liberty and Model Town Police Stations in Lahore to take action against me,” he told the SLMP. “Police from both stations raided my house unlawfully.”

The pastor bears marks of the torture he underwent, while both his wife and eldest daughter have undergone psychological treatment after the attacks on Manzer in their home.

The first hearing in the case opened against Manzer, Masih and the other community members is scheduled for Oct. 19. Manzer said his faith has imbued him with a deep sense of charity toward Nawaz.

“We are praying for protection from God, and that God blesses Nawaz, because I am thinking of him,” said Manzer. “I don’t want to do anything to Nawaz, because I love him.”

Canadian Party Leader Debate

Yeah yeah I'm always late on this stuff. Sorry, work and school and laziness =)

Excuses for the win. Anywho, I watched. LAST WEEK. Not on YouTube :)

It was a great debate. Very informative, and... I think Jack Layton did a really good job. I loved how Stephen Harper initiated the attack on the Liberal campaign and Stephane Dion; then all of a sudden the other four party leaders completely blasted Harper and the Conservatives for their failure of a government for the past two years. I believe they were right on.

Another thing I believe is that the Conservatives are more and more like the Republicans of the States. Harper and the Conservatives as of yet do not understand the Carbon Tax. I actually got the Liberal campaign booklet and read everything on the Carbon Tax, through every detail and what Dion says was spot on. Although in my last post on the election I said the Carbon Tax was quite useless; I have seen the light! It is a great method to punish those who are to hurt our environment and give back to the people as another benefit. I hope the Conservatives understand this.

Now, another thing I need to add is that... WOW! I am so surprised about Elizabeth May and her Green Party's platform. It's quite amazing I must say. I thought as a special interest party environment and a few other things were all the Green Party had, but to my constant undisputed belief; the Green Party had a lot to offer the average Canadian and Elizabeth May fought on par with all the other party leaders. If I had a second party to vote for other than the NDP, it would be the Green Party all the way.

I found the Bloc Quebecois leader Gille Duceppe quite... How should I say, useless. Although he was right about many things, he just seemed like he was unnecessary on the debate table. Though I found him to say that he would never become Prime Minister an admirable thing. At least he knows where he stands and does not act as if he could topple over all other parties with what there is available to the Bloc at this moment.

Now, Harper just got attacked throughout the debate. Of course he is the current government and that is to be expected; but in such an incredulous amount? That I don't think so. I think Harper and the Conservatives deserved every attack aimed at them. Canada has fallen into deficit and dropped out of one of the best Kyoto protocols and even entered Afghanistan and the Conservatives had the nerve to cut funds to the arts! The arts a major thing to the Canadian people, and the defence or "repair" of Afghanistan was not an interest Canada was so strong to pursue. Canada to many Canadians, myself included has faced away from it's peaceful presence in the world.

The Conservatives have offered no plan for the next government and the people are completely lost about the Conservatives. I am appalled to see many die-hard Conservatives tell me that they're just voting on what the last government was about. I believe Harper should understand what responsibilities he really has. Just because you cut 95, 000 jobs and created 100, 000 is nothing to be proud of. The 95, 000 lost were high paying, good jobs to raise a family on and live a good life. The 100, 000 are labour jobs by working at minimum wage. Harper relied on this so much during the debate, and I was so greatly angered by him just praying on this argument. I don't think he knows exactly what it's like to lose a good job and try to find one on par with the last. Another thing is that the new offenders act by Harper is disgusting. Fourteen year olds should NOT spend life in prison with adults. That is conflicting of the rights of a child.

Only one big thought on the Liberals. I like their campaign a lot; and pragmatically, they have fed off very well from the other parties to improve themselves for today's day and age. But Stephane Dion as the leader is something I do not like. Yes, he is strong in French, but during the debate I could not fully make out whatever he was saying. I think if he wants to see himself as Prime Minister, he needs to improve on his English language skills and better communication with his ideas as I don't think he can speak of them so well as he should. This might be mean, but guys, this is a candidate for the highest position in our country.

Hehehe... Time to comment on my NDP! Jack Layton! I think he might just cut being a good Prime Minister. It seems over the years he has his platform well memorized and it is very beneficial to the average Canadian. His attacks on the Conservatives were very well done. Why? Because he backed it up with what the NDP would do in exchange. I love the health care plan to get more doctors. It is something stolen from Cuba, but then again, if it worked in Cuba, then surely of course, it would work in Canada. The CMA is greatly diminishing potential doctors and it is time to get those oldies to realize that public healthcare is the way to go. Private healthcare is not in the interest of Canada.

The debate was very good, and I wish it was longer. Eight questions were not enough. Especially when immigration was not tackled at all; I think this is a major issue that should have been questioned.

stupid veins

When i was in the hospital last week, i had about 4 different IV lines over the course of my stay.

The wonderful hospital staff botched 3 out of 4 of the IV's

So now I have blown out veins on my felt wrist, left elbow

and the worst one, my right elbow, on the inside

The broken vein is about 2 inches long, you can feel it under my skin, feels kinda like a plastic tube

and my elbow joint bisects it, so every time i move my arm, it bends the busted vein in half

so much fun

in good news, i got a new Dr finally, at UCLA, first appointment is on the 25th.

Enfin ! Je suis enfin délivré du stage de médecine communautaire, la fameuse "merde conne" que je maudis depuis un mois ! J'écris ce billet dans le sale amphithéâtre de la Direction de la Santé Publique où j'ai été obligé de venir quotidiennement écouter des présentations presque toutes inutiles et ennuyeuses, à cause d'une maléfique stratégie de prise des présences nouvellement instaurée dans ce stage.

Je suis tellement content de me savoir libre de ces idioties, que ma retenue fond à vue d'oeil: si la secrétaire ose revenir aujourd'hui pour prendre les présences, je vais refuser sèchement de signer. Et si à mon évaluation individuelle on me demande, comme d'habitude, si j'ai aimé le stage, je dirai sèchement NON.

Incroyable: les deux principales organisatrices du stage s'agitent en avant, essayant vainement de connecter la vidéoconférence avec les étudiants du campus de Trois-Rivières. Elles s'imaginent que quelqu'un dans cette classe s'intéresse à la présentation de ce matin, alors que l'examen est chose du passé et que c'est la dernière journée du stage, haha ! N'importe quoi ! C'est le jour spécifique où les gens ne sont venus au cours que pour chialer entre eux contre l'examen mal fichu d'hier et contre le stage en général.

À 9:10 ce matin, malgré la pseudo-présentation qui commence et les heures qui me séparent de mon évaluation individuelle par ma monitrice, je déclare donc unilatéralement, malicieusement et frauduleusement ce stage terminé. Merde conne, c'est fini ! Maintenant, rions, jasons, n'écoutons pas, et plongeons-nous dans la quiétude d'une fin de semaine de trois jours (quiétude mêlée d'une grande joie puisque je passerai les deux semaines suivantes en... radiologie !)

The ultra-Orthodox neighbourhood of Meah Shearim in Jerusalem was shaken up last week following the arrest of three residents suspected of being active in the haredi community's chastity squad.

Demonstrations in protest of the arrest were held in the neighbourhood's Shabbat Square every evening in the past week, and on Thursday, protesters clashed with police forces and even flipped over a police car on Yoel Street.

The first person arrested three weeks ago was Elhanan Buzaglo, who was indicted of attacking a woman suspected of improper ties with married men in the capital's Maalot Dafna neighbourhood. According to the indictment, Buzaglo received $2,000 in return for his involvement in the attack.

Following his arrest, two additional suspects were detained last week. One of them is Shmuel Weisfish, who was allegedly involved in the torching of a store selling MP4 players against a ruling of the Ultra-Orthodox community's court of justice.

On Wednesday, the police arrested Binyamin Meirovich, a Jerusalem resident suspected of being one of the chastity squad's leaders, and the person responsible for the organization's operations. The police were expected to ask the court to extend his remand on Friday.

Battle against MP4 players

The protests against the three men's arrest were intensified Monday after the court decided to leave Weisfish in custody for seven additional days. The demonstrators directed their anger at a store on the Shabbat Square accused of selling "non-kosher" MP4 players.

On Wednesday evening, a group of yeshiva students demonstrated opposite another store in Meah Shearim, demanding that it stop selling "impure films."

The haredi community accused the police of "deciding to destroy the chastity squad," according to a prominent community member, who said that the "modesty guard" had nothing to do with the violent incidents.

"The chastity squad members are doing the work the police should have done. Instead of thanking us for putting things in order, they are acting against us and trying to destroy the guard," he added.

"Instead of saying thank you, they arrest us"

Jerusalem Police Spokesman Shmulik Ben Ruby said in response that "following a strenuous investigation conducted over the past weeks, three haredi men suspected of hooliganism, attacks and vandalism were arrested and brought before the court for a remand hearing.

"The court extended their remand, and the police plan to recommend that they be charged with severe violations and belonging to an illegal organization harassing some of the haredi community members whose conduct is not to the liking of the chastity squad thugs."

Murder threats

The indictment filed against Buzaglo unrolls the details of the severe incident.

"On June 1, 2008, at around 10:45 pm, the defendant arrived with six other people at the complainant's home, armed with a bat and tear gas. The defendant and the others shoved the complainant, dropped her to the floor, beat her, slammed her head against the floor and kicked all parts of her body. The defendant or one of the others sat on her head in a bid to prevent her from seeing what was going on and to prevent her from resisting.

"The defendant and the others also tied a piece of cloth to the complainant's mouth and warned her that should she open her eyes they would spray tear gas into them. The defendant or one of the others interrogated the complainant on her relations with men and asked for those men's details. The assailants took two cell phones from the complainant in order to check the names of those who called her.

"At the end of the incident, the defendant or one of the others told the complainant that she must leave her apartment, otherwise 'this will only be the beginning,' and that if she remained there she would be murdered."

Following the incident, the complainant suffered from serious injuries in all parts of her body and was in need of medical care.

According to the indictment, the complainant stated that the threats against her did not cease after the severe incident she described and that had she received continuous threatening phone calls throughout the following week.

A month later, she found a threatening letter in her mailbox and decided to leave her apartment, although her leasing contract would only expire in about a year.

Buzaglo was arrested after the police found his fingerprints in the complainant's apartment, although he denied the accusations and the complainant said she didn't know him and had never seen him before.

Judge Nava Ben Or was convinced that Buzaglo was not ideologically affiliated with the chastity squads, but ruled that he appeared to be "a rented fist".

"A man who is allegedly willing to take part in the cruel beating of a young and helpless woman, 'suspected' of socializing with married men, and all this solely for money, is a dangerous, conscienceless person with no inhibitions. His activity in the framework of such an organization makes his dangerousness seven times worse," the judge added.

The judge explained her decision to leave Buzaglo in custody, saying that the court had a duty to protect the defendant, that there was fear the defendant would attempt to disrupt the investigation and that he was convicted of violent offences in the past, including blackmail.

Buzaglo's lawyer, Attorney Ariel Atari told Ynet that he would appeal the court's decision.

Festivals and My flavor sensitiveness

Again after a festival season, I am down with ultricaria. I do not know exactly what is causing the allergy but something in the flavors is cozing the trouble. well i have decided to trace the flavor that is cozing the irritation and as doctor suggested along with his prescription for a month , to have desensitization from the flavor as a long term remedy.

SO a pinch of the bakery items, for some time , would hopefully get my body used to the flavor that it is finding irritating...

FRIDDDDAAAAYYYY

Today the weather is gorgeous! It's supposed to get up to 84 degrees today. It's been this way all week long. What a blessing to have a true fall, and a warm one at that. Oklahoma is known for never having a real fall. It usually goes straight from summer to frigid rainy yucky conditions.

I ran with my sis yesterday around the lake, and it was so peaceful. We stopped every so often to break up the run with crunches, lunges, or plank holds. I get bored just running non stop and I've not done it in a while, so I was sure I wouldn't be able to keep up.

Today I feel so good and am glad I have my sis to partner with in my running endeavors. We're going to do it twice a week. So now if only I can stay motivated. I'll let you in on a secret ... I'm lazy. I'm very lazy when it comes to exercise and staying healthy. I know I should do better, and want to ... but don't. So I've got to make myself do it ... if not for me, than my little boy.

He told me today that he gets lots of good exercise on the playground at recess everrry day! He drove the point home to me, that my exercising is influencing good choices for his life too.

I've made very good tips this week, but not enough to sustain our family. I know God will bless the fact that I'm working hard, but know that there is something else out there for me other than waiting tables. This I feel is a temporary fix, to be able to work around my son's school schedule. There has to be something that will allow me to work around his schedule, and still be able to make a living. What I'm doing now is not supporting our dual income needs. The blessing is that I have faith God is going to reveal it all to me in His time. I just have to keep pluggin along.

And lastly, my new sister-in-law is pregnant! I guess they got pregnant in Maui on the honeymoon, in July. They've been keeping it a secret, and just told us this week. I'm very happy for them and can't wait to meet my new little nephew or niece. I have a feeling it's going to be a boy! Dark skinned, long eyelashed, brown eyed beautiful boy ... can't wait to meet you little one!

Manoj tagged me on my 6 quirky quirks!! (Whatever that means!! )

I think I am suppose to tell six "odd" things that I do/did !

Now let me see... hmmmm... odd? Quirky? Hey, this is difficult than I thought!! I don't think there is anything "qurky" with me!

Okay, okay... enough of self praising.

1) When I was in fifth standard, I beat a classmate really hard, sitting on him... Don't really remember the matter but do remember his face with round plastic frame glasses and benny bunny like front teeth... I now think, he might have looked kinda cute, but he must have really irked me for some reason!!

2) In school, I was a good student. I could have been still better if I was a bit more sincere. But since I always stood either first or second in the class I had got good reputation.

Once I sat on the last bench and put "tic-toc" in my shoes and did "tic-toc", "tic-toc" during the class... teacher never suspected me (I wore a "oh-so-innocent" expression on my face!!) and the boy sitting next to me was made to stand out of the class for the whole day!!

3) In my Medical College, girls had a dress code! (Now don't raise your eyebrows, we did have a dress code! :x ) We had to wear Saree in college (Stop giggling, pleeeeeease! ) - every single day and for all the 5 and half years of MBBS (am including internship here! )

So what's so quirky about me, if every girl in the college had to do it??

Yours truly used to wear snickers with saree (for initial couple of months, as I never knew how to walk like a "female" and was really scared of tripping on my own saree if I wore a chappals or sandals!! )

4) Once at a restaurant we friends were really in mischeivious mood and a "dare" was going on... and I was dared to mix "sambaar" and "coke" and drink it!! (How stupid we can be in certain age!!)

I did drink it, but couldn't do it for more than a few sips!! ( I won the bet nonetheless, as nobody had defined how much was to be drunk!! )

5) First thing I notice in a person is his/her nose!! Please don't ask me why. I don't have the slightest idea!!

6) I love chocolates!! ( i know, I know, there's nothing quirky about it! but couldn't come up with anything else...)

Cindy McCain insults troops with PTSD

In what is fast becoming both a pathetic cliche and a sad reality of the McCain campaign, prospective first "lady" Cindy McCain has once again uttered a completely ignorant, insensitive and disrespectful comment about the troops in an interview. Talking to Marie Claire magazine recently, she had this to say about her husband's wartime experiences and the possiblity that he still suffers from them as a result:

MC: I heard that when you were in Vietnam recently, you found yourself in the same hospital room where your husband was taken after he was shot down. How did that feel? Surreal, or all too real?
CM: Yeah, actually, that’s a great description of it. You know, I had this feeling that that was the place. Don’t ask me why, because I don’t know. And then they proceeded to tell me that indeed it was the hospital and it was the room where he’d been photographed — you know, that famous photograph of him.

MC: Did you get a chill?
CM: I did. I got a chill, and I also was very poignantly reminded of just how strong my husband is, how tough and determined.

MC: You met your husband after his POW days. To what extent is that still with you — or is it a part of history?
CM: My husband will be the first one to tell you that that’s in the past. Certainly it’s a part of who he is, but he doesn’t dwell on it. It’s not part of a daily experience that we experience or anything like that. But it has shaped him. It has made him the leader that he is.

MC: But no cold sweats in the middle of the night?
CM: Oh, no, no, no, no, no. My husband, he’d be the first one to tell you that he was trained to do what he was doing. The guys who had the trouble were the 18-year-olds who were drafted. He was trained, he went to the Naval Academy, he was a trained United States naval officer, and so he knew what he was doing.

We'll put aside the laughable assertion that her husband "doesn't dwell on it" when in fact he and his surrogates never miss a chance to bring up his POW history even in the most trivial of circumstances. And maybe she's telling the truth when she implies he doesn't have nightmares as a result of it. If that's the case, then that's great for him. He's a lot better off than probably most of his fellow prisoners.

But to suggest that the only troops who suffer from PTSD are the 18-year old draftees is not merely ludicrous, it's ignorant, insulting and demeaning. To suggest that her husband doesn't have it because he had proper training is equally stupid and ignorant. To say this at a time when our nation is at war on two fronts overseas, and our young men and women are returning home with very real symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (even the officers), and treatment for PTSD is being denied them or is simply unavailable, is irresponsible and reckless.

And to say all this when your husband, the Republican candidate for President, is a man who has voted repeatedly against funding for veterans' health care, and who voted against a funding bill that would have provided improved body armor for combat troops because it included a timetable for withdrawal, is more than a little ludicrous.

It's insane. It's insensitive. It's unworthy of a first lady. Cindy and John McCain owe the troops a massive apology.

HOUSE BUDGET HEARING DoH 'skewed' priority hit

MANILA, Philippines --As the House of Representatives deliberates on the proposed budget of the Department of Health (DoH) this Friday, a militant lawmaker criticized its "skewed" priority, which he said prioritized foreign patients.

Deputy Minority Floor Leader and Bayan Muna partylist Representative Satur Ocampo said the DoH budget showed a "skewed investment in government-sponsored medical tourism that targets foreign patients instead of millions of Filipinos who do not have access to quality government health care."

"The DoH should explain government's health priorities. They should tell Congress why healthcare is apparently being transformed by government into a money-making venture targeting foreign medical tourists over ordinary Filipinos in dire need of health care," Ocampo said in a statement.

The DoH has a proposed P27.803 billion allocation for 2009.

Citing a study of the Health Alliance for Democracy (HEAD), Ocampo lamented that "past and current national health budgets under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program have not changed the general state of disrepair and lack of adequate facilities in public hospitals and government-run health facilities."

The program got P1.66 billion in 2008 – a whopping 822% increase from its 2007 P180 million allotment.

For 2009, the program will be getting P2.03 billion or a 22.29% increase, the lawmaker said.

"This Health Facilities Enhancement Program only aims to refurbish certain specialty hospitals for the government's medical tourism agenda. It has the highest appropriation compared to the potable water program (P1.5 billion) and the Tuberculosis Control Program (P1.3 billion) that will go directly to indigent Filipino patients," he added.

The HEAD study also noted that the 2009 national budget would only give substantial increases to specialty hospitals like the Lung Center of the Philippines (an additional P157.6 million), National Kidney and Transplant Institute (P185 million), Philippine Children's Medical Center (P236 million), and Philippine Heart Center (P185 million).

Ocampo said the DoH flagship hospital, the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center in Manila, is only getting P359 million in the 2009 budget. It is much worse for other public hospitals under the DoH, he added.

"Our government doctors and health professionals in HEAD aver that these are the same hospitals earmarked for integration as the 'Philippine Center for Specialized Healthcare' in line with the medical tourism program. If the Arroyo administration allocates hefty amounts to specialty hospitals, I do not see any reason why it should not give equal or greater budgets for government medical centers that cater to the general public and indigent Filipino patients," Ocampo said.

i suggest banning the entrance coaching.. that just kills the +2 classes

What is Entrance exam meant for... ?

I feel Those who conduct the entrance exam forgets this fact.
The Entrance exam should be a testr of a persons aptitude to take up particular course. With proper question set and proper analysis of answers we should be able to award a student a seat for the course for which he/she has the aptitude.

In the current state the entrance exam is just a test to find out how fast can you write down the memorized answers.
yeah i mean it .!!!!! Repetition of questions is the biggest curse of the Entrance exams in kerala.. you doesn't even need to know the trigonometric formulas to write an answer to a trigonometric problem.. the repetition is so bad and the entrance coaching centers just prepare the students to meet the repeated questions.

consequences of this.
#) Students doesn't care for the +2 classes and concentrates only on the shortcuts for the entrance exams.
#) Students looses the basics. without proper understanding in the +2 classes no student can shine in any degree class
#) Only the students for wealthy family can go to these memorizing and shortcut classes(coaching classes) ==> the able students from lower class family's looses out.. ==> In future this results in bad professionals for country ==> results in retarded growth of the nation

just a note to add Have any of gone through the CAT exams.. Hundreds of CAT coaching centers and yet Every year CAT Question paper surprises everyone.

What the Whole country wants ( not just kerala ) is a proper system of enterance exam which can assess a student's ability and aptitude for his/her own future and for the future of the country
