So, I've spent a few days at my first placement school and I love it there! The science staff are really welcoming and friendly and my mentor (who, for the purposes of this blog, shall be referrred to as David) is everything you'd want a mentor to be. He did the same PGCE course that I'm doing and his first placement school was where I'm at now! So he knows what I'm going through, which is cool. Although he's completely non-assuming as well and doesn't seem to mind me asking him a thousand questions. And he's arranged a weekly meeting with me to see how I'm doing. The chief technician is incredible as well and she's been there for nearly twenty years, so she's seen a lot of student teachers through! I can see her becomming my new mummy very, very soon.

One thing that did annoy me though - someone else used my mug, even though there were plenty of others that were clean! On Monday morning, I diligently took my mug into school (it even has my name on it!) and I use it and wash it every day. So why should someone else use my mug? What annoyed me more is that this person was supposed to be my mentor as well but couldn't really be bothered. Argh!! But I'm happy with how things have worked out.

David's given me a whole cross-section of classes to take over as well, from a Year 7 to a bottom set Year 10 and his AS Physics class as well. I observed one of their practical lessons earlier in the week and, put it this way, they don't seem that bright.

One thing that's starting to get to me though is the whole "You have to make lessons fun and interesting" thing. When I was at school, you just accepted that you had to be there and made the most of it. You knew you had to learn things, even if you didn't find them that interesting. The teacher was just an aid to learning, not the be all and end all. So much emphasis is placed on making everyone learn something. That really annoys me. I don't really want to put time and effort into helping those that don't want to learn. But I guess I'm going to have to if I'm going to work in the average UK state school. Government targets, guidelines, OFSTED, league tables... the list goes on. I guess I'll only escape that if I teach in a school where the government can't really get me. Oh hello, independent schools...

There were two teachers that I had in high school who had a huge influence upon my life. One was a woman who pushed and challenged me and also served as a role model as a strong and intelligent mathematician. The other was a man who taught me to see the real meaning in things and how to appreciate art, among some other life lessons.

We don't give thanks as much as we sometimes should, yet we all know how much it means and how much we appreciate when someone thanks us. This morning I was able to check an item that I've had on my to do list for some time; I sent a heartfelt email to the woman who was a role model to me to tell her what an impact she had on my life and to thank her.

I don't know what it is about it, but sending that email has put me in a great mood and plastered a huge smile across my face.

To decide that you will set out to fulfill what you believe is your purpose is to begin a journey th

To decide that you will set out to fulfill what you believe is your purpose is to begin a journey that is dogged with the same obstacles as any hero's journey. First, you make the decision and you are so excited! Finally! You're ready to begin achieving your dream! This feeling of euphoria lasts for a while and it feels so good.

You take your first few steps. Then suddenly you come across a hurdle.

You hear the voices of your loved ones saying, "Are you sure?" "Is that safe?" "What if XXX happens?" Of course, the voice of the Inner Critic echoes everything your well-meaning friends and family say to you. This is the first hurdle. There are more.

There are days when nothing seems to go right. When nothing appears to be moving in any direction at all. When you're not sure that you've made any progress up to now. When the world seems to through obstacles at you from every direction. This is an easy place for that sneaky voice of the Inner Saboteur (Check out Rosanne Bane's fantastic work about this conniving little character), to pipe up and tell you that you might as well not go on. You're a failure anyway.

Perhaps you stand up to the Saboteur and continue to move toward your goals. Perhaps a wise mentor shows up to help guide you. Perhaps you see a sign that inspires you to go on. To keep fighting.

In the hero's journey, the closer you get to the mountain top the more challenging the tests become. You are being asked: How badly do you really want this? How many times are you willing to try, try, try again?

Consider this Thomas Edison quote: "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

If you're facing hurdles you must jump, or difficulties you must overcome, or doubts you must silence, or thoughts of giving up try waiting. Just wait. Sleep on it. Wait a week and see if things suddenly become easier or you are able to see a creative solution to what you thought was an insolvable problem. Remember even though he almost gives up and suffers setbacks many times along the way, the hero always gets there in the end.

In a recent speech by U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on October 2, 2008 she said:

It isn't a secret that education is key to getting a better job. Today, high school dropouts makeabout $540 per week on average for full-time work and the unemployment rate of this group of workers is about 9.6 percent. Workers with a high school diploma average $776 weekly and this group has a 5.7 percent unemployment rate. Workers with some college or an associate degree average about $902 per week and this group's unemployment rate is 4.8 percent. But workers with a bachelor's degree or higher average $1,484 per week and have an unemployment rate of2.7 percent. More than ever before, education is the real ticket to the middle class.

As a volunteer at a tutoring and mentoring program I need to remember that the results are long term and not just the friendships of the day.

People turn to executive coaches for a variety of reasons. Sure, if you’re in a jam, an executive coach can help, but they’re not only for crisis situations. People used to hire executive coaches in reaction to a pressing situation. Now, people are being proactive and hiring executive coaches when things are going well. For example, to help increase your competitive edge.

While mentors can also help, they may not have as much time as you would like, or you may feel you are imposing on their time. Your boss may “coach” you from time to time, but they have their own jobs to do and their own issues to contend with.

Whether you're in trouble or looking to strengthen your position, now is the right time to hire an executive coach.

Here’s our “Take Five” on how an executive coach can help you:

Raise Your Game – Whether you want to position yourself for promotion, increase your industry knowledge or be more effective in your job, an executive coach can help you get there. Increasing your competitive edge is key to long-term career success. Whomever you hire should be able to teach you best practices in the areas that are most important to you (e.g., negotiations, leadership, execution, etc.).

Putting Out a Fire – Your situation may be dire. For example, you may be on a plan with a short timeframe in which to improve your performance. Your boss wants to see significant improvement in certain areas and your job depends on it. When working with a coach, have them develop an action plan to aggressively address each of the areas you need to improve. Measurement is critical, so make sure you hire a coach who will hold you accountable.

Transitioning To Something New – You’ve reached that point in your career when you know you need to do something different but are not sure what. A good executive coach can help identify those things which you enjoy and are good at. S/he can then help you leverage those into a new, more fulfilling career. Once you have identified what it is you want to do, you and your coach should create a career plan with specific actions to move you in that direction.

Increase Job Satisfaction – We can all be happier in our current jobs. An executive coach can help target those components of your job which you enjoy most and help you focus more on those areas. Similarly, you can take the areas you don’t like and work with your coach to make them more fun.

Improve Your Relationships – Most people work in an environment where they are dependant on others to get their jobs done. Given this, having good working relationships makes you happier and more productive. An executive coach can help you strengthen those important relationships, identifying opportunities for you to bond with co-workers in genuine and productive ways.

Hiring an executive coach is a smart thing to do. Not only will they help you raise your performance level, they can give you invaluable perspective on your situation. Executive coaches counsel hundreds of people in a myriad of industries and that perspective can yield significant benefits.

A good coach can help move you into first class.

A normal day (As normal as it can be). Started off with a mini briefing by the mentor, then off to the designated form group. Observed pastoral duties and witness my first disruptive student being punished. Viewed a Year 7 lesson in progression and then focused upon the various focus tasks. To wrap the day up, an insightful meeting with the ITT coordinator.

Activities undertaken today

Observing another year 7 lesson that is covering the same topic, reinforced the numerous aspects of the lesson that are neglected and missed the first time around as other dynamics of the lesson are emphasised upon. Whilst the students' were engaged in their specified task, both mentors answered any queries myself and a colleague had regarding various focus tasks and about the differentiation required between the range of students in each year group.

Most of the emphasis today was indicating, identifying and recording the assorted focus tasks which required acting upon the three keywords.

Short Term Plan : To finish most of the focus tasks.
Medium Term Plan : To finish all the focus task for next Friday.
Long Term Plan : Start thinking about lesson planning for the specified topic assigned by the mentors.

Target for Monday - Ask mentor regarding FT2, F13,F14. Plan scheme of work for the low ability
group(animation suite).

OK Hello everyone I'm back! I am truly LOVING LWS Frredom! As of this moment I am at a total earning of $2080.00! That's not bad considering I have been in the program less than a month and 16 out of my 17 sign ups was a new prospect. I have only had one sign up that was a person I knew before I joined the program.

Many other people showing how much they have made are making their initial sales from leads they already developed a relationship with in the past. Big difference there... Also keep in mind i am workng on this by myself, not with any partners doing my marketing. If I had a partner it would make sense for me to make two times as much as I have. Make sure you pay close attention to the details of a persons personal testimonial. For example, I used nothing but FREE MARKETING to generate the sales I have made so far.

I have a nice stack of cash right now from this program. What should I do with my earnings? I am going to invest a small portion in a powerful marketing tool which I can't mention to those other than my team. I am still going to continue to use free marketing strategies, only now I am going to turn up the heat.

After I purchase this new tool, I am also going to start some newspaper ads. I get responses on a Daily basis for this program. What I am really beginning to like is the People I meet as a result! I meet some people who are already VERY successful who want to do business. It's very rewarding to deal with people who come from different career fields who want to work with me. You never now who you might meet....

She sat down after work to watch Oprah. Seeing Maya Angelou was going to be on the show and ignori

She sat down after work to watch Oprah. Seeing Maya Angelou was going to be on the show and ignoring that obnoxious Suzy Orman was also on, she waited and rested. It wasn't that Emily didn't like Suzy Orman, it was just that Suzy's zest for helping women manage their financial masterpieces had caused her to whip out her credit card, two years ago, and spend a slightly obscene amount of money on a book, some CD's and a blue plastic suitcase. The suitcase was where Emily was supposed to keep her important papers and the plastic case with a flashing light, no less, would keep those papers safe through all kinds of acts of mother nature.

During that time there was a tornado that hit her house but none of her unorganized papers where damaged. The money spent had done nothing, actually, but make her feel guilty about not following the program. Suzy's "Save Yourself" money managing program just hadn't had the pizazz she'd hoped it would for making money management fun. But, she did learn her FICO score. This forty four year old woman liked being a feminist, but to her managing things was not a spontaneous act and she enjoyed spontaneity. Watching Suzy explain America's current state of financial crisis she understood what she and the bald headed Jewish guy, that managed Oprah's money, were saying. She wasn't stupid.

Waiting and wading through the boring world of money (unless one of her very creative schemes where about to hit pay dirt ) the opportunity finally came to see and hear Maya Angelou. Dr. Angelou, Oprah likes to call her dear friend.

When Maya was about to come on, Emily's heart became warm and soft. Even the thought of the comfort, dignity, and soothing that Maya provided, was enough to make Emily proud of being a woman. This wonderful dark woman who has amazing grace and integrity built into every word she speaks, into her mental-muscle and vibrant molecular structure.

Emily saw her face. A sadness dropped on her, this woman, full of vitality, was approaching leaving this reality, her reality. She knew that Maya would never really leave but what Emilly had learned to grab onto, not the essence but the physical Maya would leave. She would leave in a visual/auditory sense. Maybe that's not entirely true, thought Emily, because at one time or another, she could hallucinate the grand-matriarch or perhaps Maya's wise words would come to her in her dreams.

Maya spoke about being in her eightieth year, and thinking that she had not many years left. Emily's horror and selfishness danced around like a taunting teasing playground song. Tears poured inside her heart knowing that soon her mentor would be gone. Oprah new this too, but she had found a way to cherish her every living breath. Oprah said she talks to her friend two to three times a week.

Tears will come, she thought, for this woman that is so beloved. With her own indignent anger Emily acknowledged why Maya has written a poem entitled "contentious objector" regarding Maya's own imminent death. No, it's not true that only the good die young. When Maya's gone a good and great woman will be gone. Emily also rejected the idea of death for Maya, and hoped when her time of death comes that life will be so precious that loosening her hold on it, will also be objectionable.

(I just threw in the tag hustler for my friend Melissa)

Untill next time my friends, tack för besöket.

Tú no estarías regalando TODAS tus técnicas estratégicas y ventajas competitivas.

There is nothing easy about looking for a new job, though I do usually find something highly invigor

There is nothing easy about looking for a new job, though I do usually find something highly invigorating about it. However, there is one aspect of it that is always in need of being balanced: am I approaching a potential employers as a sales person with something I want them to buy or am I approaching them as a buyer focused on getting the best value for my time and energy?

Jobs are about a trade: my time, energy and talent for my employer's investment of time, opportunity and money. In a perfect world, that is a fair exchange. When a that balance shifts and one side is getting the better end of the deal, then it is time to re-evaluate the arrangement. For me, that shift in balance typically indicates the moment where I realize that the party is over and it's time to start job hunting for something new. The real question is, how do you balance being a buyer with being a seller?

What does it mean to be a seller?
Being a seller is the obvious, and in some ways, the easiest part of job hunting: that's the part we are taught to focus on, which is convincing our potential employer that we have what they seek and therefore they should pay us to provide that service. That's the part we are conditioned to asking questions about and looking for clues to provide us insight into how we are doing: we wear a suit to the interview, we sound authoritative and confident when answering questions, we schmooze well and network effectively, we show examples of our successes and downplay the impact of our failures. This is the part that, all too often, we get stuck focusing on. Too much of the time, we forget that we are also a buyer.

What does it mean to be a buyer?
It means that you are making sure that the company you are signing up to work for is meeting YOUR needs at the same time you are working to meet their needs. Over the course of time, most of us learn what is important to us and what is not. For me I know that a reasonably laid back environment that allows me to wear jeans to work if I want, is important. On the other hand, a company that is so lax that meetings never start on time or people do not deliver on their word is too extreme, and not something that I want in a company. A company whose leaders are visible, participatory and accessible is also important to me; I do not want to work for someone who hides in their office and never has contact with the "rank-and-file" employees, but someone who demonstrates integrity and inspires the same in his/her employees. And, because I am in IT, a place that pushes the envelope, encourages early adoption and generally makes a sincere and genuine effort to be as close to the cutting edge of enterprise technology as possible is critical to fostering the type of environment that brings out the best in me -- including my own best energy and enthusiasm.

Of course, in a truly perfect world, I'd also get to take my dog to work like I could in my early days -- but in the scheme of all trade-offs, most of the time, I have to pick my battles.

What does this mean to the job hunt?
It means taking the time to look around and ask as many questions as you are asked. It means asking for a tour of the office, and speaking to people your interviewer may not have originally planned to give you the chance to talk to. It means using social networking sites like LinkedIn and Facebook to find people who work for that company and speak to them about what it's like to work there: what is leadership like? What are the customers like? What is a normal work day? What's the best thing about the culture? What is the worst? Or, better yet, as Guy Kawasaki suggests, use LinkedIn's Recommendation functions to see what employees (past and present) have to say about your potential bosses.

The down-side to this is obvious, though: this takes more time and more commitment on your part before jumping onboard to a new company. And while that is always preferable, I also recognize that sometimes time is a luxury that we cannot afford. If you have to move fast for any reason, then this process is the one that is the easiest to short-change.

There are, of course, the formal sides of being a buyer in a job market: what will this employer pay me? What is the training policy/budget? What are the perks and benefits? But these tend to be the most straight forward, they are easy to quantify and typically the HR person will be able to answer these questions for you in less than five minutes. But with rare exceptions, most of us love a job because of the 401K matching program: we love a job because we have a boss that motivates us or a corporate vision we believe in and are willing to strive for.

But these things are harder to be certain of -- both for the employee as well as the employer.

Now that I am getting settled in Austin, I am starting to look around for the next chapter in my career. I recently had a meeting with someone who said that the hiring process within their company is extremely involved: several rounds of interviews, lots of speaking to multiple people, an on-site visit and tour, and -- if a candidate survives all that -- then they are often asked to create a presentation to make to the team. He said that, while the process is laborious, they recognize that in the long run, it is less expensive (and destructive) to spend the time and money up-front finding the best possible candidate, than it is to rush through the process and get someone faster who is "close, but no cigar."

I always like hearing organizational leaders say this: it's a key indicator that their corporate culture and values really are important to them. They do not want to bring in someone who is scared off by hard work, or someone who doesn't get that the culture is worth protecting and cultivating. That's a good sign. And it's a good lesson for job hunters, too: make sure you know -- and like -- what you are buying. Otherwise you run the risk of dreading getting out of bed every morning, and that's not good for either you or your employer.

Tú dí si te gustaría o no.
Has tomado tus vitaminas?

Teuer. Gediegen. Entspannt lehnen Sie sich in Ihrem Ohrensessel zurück. Sie freuen sich darauf, die nächste Folge Ihrer Lieblings-Serie zu lesen: GEORG UND BOB IM SPIEGELLAND. Sie blättern in freudiger Erwartung um. Es kommt, was beim Magazinjournalismus immer kommt.

- No way.
- Gut. Wie steht’s mit einem Bussard?
- Bussard?
- Ja, ein Mäuse-Bussard. Wenn ich den im Büro.
- Du hast sie ja wohl nicht alle. Ein BUSSARD? In unserem Büro?

- Seltsam. Hier steht: ICH HABE BRUDER IN MEINE GEWALT GEBRACHT. ENTWEDER SCHIEBST DU DEINEN ARSCH SCHLEUNIGST HIER RÜBER (DOM-REP), ODER IHR SEHT EUREN GELIEBTEN BOSS NIE WIEDER! UND WENN ICH SAGE NIE, MEINE ICH: NIE! HAHAHA! WIR WARTEN IN EINER DUNKLEN HÖHLE AUF DICH. FREUNDLICHE GRÜSSE, ATTILA BERG. Was soll denn das? murmelt Georg.
Georg schaut Bob flehentlich an.
Bob sagt verzweifelt:
- Was soll ich denn sagen, Georg?
- Verdammt. Weißt du, was Punkt vier ist, Bob?
- Nö.
- Interessiert es dich?
- Aber sicher. Kann ich vorher kurz pinkeln gehen?
- Nein.
- Oh, Mann.
