In a Sunday, Aug. 31 post on his Web site, Moore’s article “Show Us the DNA!” — a smear of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — suggested that she didn’t give birth to her son Trig, but rather Sarah’s daughter Bristol gave birth to Trig, and that Sarah was covering up the birth.

The rumor surfaced after John McCain chose Palin to be his running mate, but it was relegated to the blogosphere until Moore ran with it.

However, in an interview with The Hill on Tuesday, Sept. 2 — two days later — Moore backpedaled by saying that Democrats should not stoop to the level of Republicans: “Being tough doesn’t mean swimming in their sewer.”

Moore admonished Barack Obama for not using tougher tactics with Republicans, but said that employing petty gossip like the pregnancy issue was the staple of Republicans.

“[Karl] Rove would go after that, but we don’t want to become them,” the newly enlightened Moore reported to The Hill.

Moore's attempt to apologize for his unfounded and vulgar attack of Palin was not done on his own terms or under his own power - its has been reported that senior Obama Campaign officials contacted Moore personally and told him to kiss and make up.

In addition to accusing Palin of covering up a pregnancy, which again we want to stress is unfounded and untrue, he also said that Palin is  "right wing radical that is out of touch with the average American, and is dangerous given her radical gun ownership ideas"... Excuse me but what?

Who does Michael Moore think he is? He is not the average American, he does not know anyone that is an average American, and if he thinks being a working mom, gun owner, christian, and states rights propoinet is radical then who in the hell is average to Moore?

What Moore and his liberal elite friends need to get threw their thick heads is that about 80-90% of the voting body is just like Palin - parents, whom have kids that make mistakes, own more then one gun, and are blue colar.

I think Moore has done more to damage the Liberal Democratic Party then John McCain could had ever done - today McCain and Palin surged ahead of Obama in the polls by 6% as Moore's comments angered Independent swing voters whom have begun to side with Palin.

If Obama hopes to win in November he needs to take control of his so-called supporters such as Moore, MSNBC, NBC, Rev Wright, Oprah, Gangster Rappers, and the droves of Hollywood Elitests whom keep shooting Obama in the foot when ever they open their mouths.

Just in time for the election comes liberal hero (or enemy depending on your perspective) Michael Moore with a new movie. His latest, called Slacker Uprising, chronicles his efforts in the 2004 election to rally young voters and will available to download for free along with having a theatrical run:

“I thought it’d be a nice way to celebrate my 20th year of doing this,” Moore said. “And also help get out the vote for November. I’ve been thinking about what I want to do to help with the election this year.” [boing boing]

It remains to be seen whether this will help or hurt the election. I suppose it depends on how far off the deep end Moore goes. I’ve always found that his films just too far and alienate the folks that he should be convincing of something. Basically his movies preach to the choir.

I can’t tell much from the trailer (which is after the jump) except that it appears to again focus too much on Moore on not on the issues.

Not so cohesive. But who knows, hopefully it will get young people excited to vote.

Most of it seemed a mish-mash of negative images about the U.S war in Iraq; a couple of other parts of it were funny, and there was a disturbing segment on the grandiosity and extremely protected status of the Saudi consulate in Washington. I've also seen his Columbine "documentary" which I thought was garbage. I have not seen Sicko yet.)

Hi Zen Lill! I agree with you...life is stranger...and weirder...and more fucked up, than fiction. Soap and Space Opera's are reality -  My blog has proven that over and over. I find it fascinating and sad. 

Doug...that is a wild story about SP...again life is stranger...what kind of woman would do that? Palin's life plot thickens...I'm staying tuned.

The film follows Moore on his US speaking tour in 2004, encouraging young voters to get registered and vote. The younger age bracket is the only age group that John Kerry carried in 2004, and some are hoping that Michael Moore will help fuel the Obama campaign's mission to get out that young vote as well. Free movie that will probably get more people (from both sides of the fence even) encouraged to get involved? Okay, Michael-- count me in.

Oh, and if you're thinking about accessibility, a DVD version is also available. Moore encourages viewing parties and the endless sharing of this production all across the nation.

The preceding paragraph is total bullshit, of course.  It was Michelle Obama who made the crack about Hillary Clinton not being able to run her own household.  The Republicans never had any sexist attack machine against Senator Clinton; the Obama sycophants in the media managed that all by themselves.  It's clear where the true sexism is today.

Enter Sarah Palin, and we suddenly have an US Weeklycover that screams "Babies, Lies, and Scandal."  We suddenly have liberal women on TV questioning whether Governor Palin should be running for vice president when she has a young child at home.  We suddenly have Democrats who are suspicious of her ethics because her seventeen-year-old daughter Bristol is pregnant.  We suddenly hear Hitler references and fabrications about the "true" mother of Palin's baby.  Barack Obama has never been asked a single tough questions about his policies or his dubious personal relationships: McCain's running mate is announced and less than week later she's already been slammed harder and more often than Obama ever was.

This double standard is absolutely sickening.  Silly me, thinking that a strong, intelligent woman with a family who's running for the second-highest office in the country should elicit pride from everyone, especially women and particularly feminists.  Instead, one of Governor Palin's "sisters" in the media asked whether she should be running for vice president because she has a young child at home.

How about this woman ask whether Barack Obama should be vying for the most important job in the world - by her rationale, won't he be neglecting his two young daughters?  Could you imagine if Republicans said something like this about a female Democratic candidate?  Could you imagine the feminist marches, the public outcry, the demands for an apology?

But hey, Sarah Palin is pro-life and owns a gun - so who really cares?  It's not like we can expect Gloria Steinem or any other fair-weather feminist to come rushing to her defense.  I remember Ann Coulter once remarking that some feminists despise her (Coulter) so much that although they're normally against rape, they'd make an exception in her case.   Irrational partisanship has grown so ridiculous nowadays that I'm not even sure how much of exaggeration that is anymore.  After all, there are people who celebrate when a Republican gets cancer.  Michael Moore claims that "God is on our side" when a hurricane disrupts the Republican Convention. 

Here's what's funny:  The most apt coverage of Bristol Palin's pregnancy came from Stephen Colbert.  After talking up a "shameful story" concerning Sarah Palin's daughter (which everyone assumed to be the teen pregnancy), Colbert revealed his criticism: Palin had inflicted her daughter with the name Bristol. :)  He didn't say a word about the pregnancy.  If only the "real" journalists would learn from Colbert.

I myself am pro-choice and socially progressive.  I think Palin's position on having creation "science" taught in public schools is absurd.  I'm also a convicted felon.  And yet I wouldn't repeat half the nasty, insulting, sexist things that are being said about Governor Palin and her family.  This entire election has become a circus, a popularity contest, a quest for scandal and entertainment.  You'll find more depth and integrity on an episode of Big Brother.  Everyone needs to calm down and stick to the issues that are actually important.  Most of all, they need to grow up.
