Gracias al plugin Alarm Clock, ahora puedes utilizar el reproductor musical Rhythmbox (por defecto en GNOME) como despertador.

Each journalist has been assigned a MacBook Pro loaded with Final Cut Express software. Their newsroom roles are diverse--a breaking news mobile journalist, a music culture writer, two business reporters, a sports reporter, a photojournalist and our state legislative reporter.

Two days. That is the amount of time I have to share what has taken me four years to learn. The reality is that what I teach in this short workshop is only the framework of what these innovative journalists will need to learn. The heavy lifting will have to come from them as they learn to master the fundamentals over time.

One of the things I’ve discovered from other video workshops I’ve taught, is the less technical I get, the better students are able to grasp the fundamentals.  Spending a week watching Final Cut demos is not an effective way to teach video editing. The more hands-on training a student has, the faster they will learn.

After the workshop, my plan is to be a coach until each new video producer feels comfortable enough to fly solo. I will give constructive criticism and editing help on each video they produce. Truth is, most of these first productions will probably suck. I’m ok with that—and so should they. Video storytelling is tough, especially for word-oriented people. But with time and feedback they will get better, their editing will become faster and their storytelling confidence will grow.

These seven journalists were chosen because each has shown a willingness to adapt to change professionally. As our website grows in importance, their videos will help enhance Spokesman.com’s content in way words and pictures cannot do alone.

EL Diseño es una actividad cretiva cuyo propósito es establecer las cualidades multifacéticas de objetos, procesos, servicios y sus sistemas, en todo su ciclo de vida. Por lo tanto, Diseño es el factor principal de la humanización innovadora de las tecnologías, y el factor crítico del intercambio cultural y económico.

también lo definiremos como el proceso creativo de programar, proyectar, coordinar, seleccionar y organizar una serie de factores técnicos y elementos gráfico-plásticos, con los objetivos de  crear objetos o productos de acuerdo a unas especificaciones  e integrando en el proyecto  los instrumentos de comunicación visual gráfico-plásticos.

La palabra diseño se usa  también,  en relación con los objetos creados por esa actividad. Así resulta habitual hablar de diseño de:  moda, muebles, jardinería, interiores, ..... 

Diseño Gráfico

Wucius Wong lo definió como una práctica situada mas alla del embellecimiento de la apariencia exterior de las cosas y lo considero un "proceso de creacion visual con un proposito"

Para definir la palabra Diseño Gráfico se puede recurrir al desdoblamiento de los términos: "diseño" . La palabra "gráfico" califica a la palabra "diseño", y la relaciona con la producción de objetos visuales destinados a comunicar mensajes específicos. Las dos palabras juntas: "diseño gráfico", desbordan la suma de sus significados individuales y pasan a ser el nombre de una profesión. En función de proponer una definición inicial, se podría decir que el diseño gráfico, visto como actividad, es la acción de concebir, programar, proyectar y realizar comunicaciones visuales, producidas en general por los medios industriales y destinadas a transmitir mensajes específicos a grupos determinados.

Google heeft op zen Picasa weer een cool tooltje erbij gekweekt: de "name tags".

Het geeft de mogelijkheid om kennissen te herkennen en hun naam te taggen op hun hoofd. Google doet de rest en plant die naam op de rest van de hoofden in uw picasa-albums.

Zoals sommige wel weten heb ik hier een picasa-album staan met een hoop foto's :)
Jammer genoeg zijn de Google nametags nog steeds niet beschikbaar (op moment van schrijven) in de Nederlandstalige picasa.
Dus we gaan Google wat omzeilen :)

Om te beginnen moet je even naar www.google.be gaan.

Hier staat onderaan links de knop "Google.com in English". Hier moet je even op klikken, en heel je google wordt amerikaan :)

Nu kan je dus ook bijvoorbeeld naar mijn picasa surfen, waar je plots heel de nametags ziet verschijnen :)

Nu om als hoster deze nametags te gebruiken moet je even bij instellingen de algemente taal op engels (united states) zetten, en dan kan je er ook mee spelen :)

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) uses a patented concept of retrieval which overcomes most of the problems currently associated with the more popular word based retrieval systems. It is an automatic software application that can return 30% more effective relevancy to text based databases than the current standard search word matching techniques used by search engines.

LSI is particularly beneficial when large amounts of data are to be processed and where information needs to be retrieved in multiple languages and translation needed. Current retrieval match words contained within text or documents in a database. while this system is popular they are far from perfect, and if you have ever used a search engine search box you will know what I mean.

The main problem lies in the lack of precision, and on average 50% of the information that is returned will be irrelevant to the end user. there is also the question of retrieval failure whereby only 20% of the relevant information available is returned. In other words, do you know what you are missing?

The main reason for this missing information lies in the fact that there are many ways to describe the same idea or concept. On non-LSI models, if a writer such as I use one word to describe a particular thing, and a searcher such as yourselves use another then you are quite likely to not get all the relevant information available.

An example of this would be if i were to use the word 'laptop', yet the searcher looks for 'notebook' or 'portable computer' it will be more likely to be missing from the search results for that elusive 'laptop' keyword. Authors and searchers alike find it increasingly difficult to anticipate the many ways in which a concept can be described.

LSI on the other hand enables the user to find relevant information even if the search query shares no words in common. LSI uses a very powerful and fully automatic way of statistically associating words of description to one another. LSI will learn that "laptop" and "portable" occur in many of the same contexts, and that queries about one should probably retrieve documents about the other.

LSI is 30% more effective than the current word matching methods used in retrieving relevant information to the user. (e.g., Deerwester et al., 1990; Dumais, 1995) LSI can handle many differing types of text based applications such as multimedia descriptions, marketing brochures, email messages or WWW urls all with equal ease. In addition LSI is unique in it's application to improving information whenever the retrieval rate necessary is high. e.g. multimedia information, advertisements etc.

Because LSI does not rely on direct word matching it finds more relevant information at a breeze.even in differing languages without any necessary changes to existing algorithms. No wonder the likes of Google are now heading in the LSI direction, it's search results can only improve on the relevancy to it's clients. i.e you and me.

De finesses van Chrome moet ik nog uitpluizen, maar de belangrijkste troeven merk je meteen. Het programmavenster is enorm clean, de adresbalk bovenaan doet tegelijk dienst als Google-zoekbalk, je surfgeschiedenis wordt standaard met screenshots van de bezochte sites getoond en - vooral - met Chrome waan je je op het circuit van Francorchamps: surfen doe je merkbaar sneller dan met het buggy vehikel Firefox 3.

Straks en de volgende dagen zal ik ongetwijfeld over enkele onhebbelijkheidjes van de nieuwe webbrowser struikelen, maar dat zien we dan wel weer.

De webbrowser van Google kun je hier downloaden. Let wel: het is nog een voorlopige versie, maar je pc help je er normaal gezien niet mee om zeep. Normaal gezien ;-)
