The top seven players in the ATP 2008 Race and the top seven teams in the Stanford ATP Doubles Race following the BNP Paribas Masters qualify for the circuit finale, with one spot reserved for Grand Slam champions finishing within the Top 20. Mr. Unpredictable a.k.a Marat Safin won a three-set match against the No. 3 in the world, Novak Djokovic. Marat won 6-4, 7-6 (3), 6-2.

Had I known Marat was going against Novak the day before, I would've said, "okay," content to see our favorite hot-headed Russian roll out the green carpet for the top Serb. Honestly, Marat hasn't been really playing well, and for him to beat Nole today was really unexpected. According to Nole, he respects Safin so much, and thinks that factor probably affected his game today. As for Marat, most of us know what he is really capable of doing; the guy could've been in the top 5 right now had he been consistent with his game.

Marat was interviewed by Patrick McEnroe and Darren Cahill after his match. He looked very calm and somewhat tired.

Had a bad draw in the French Open, lost to Davydenko in the 2nd round, then I'm here playing against Djokovic nothing to lose. The guy is under pressure because he's gonna finish #1 in the world, at least. And he has a lot of pressure so I needed to take advantage of it."

P-Mac: "I guess you have to change your flight plans now because apparently there's an 8:30 flight to Moscow tonight."

Marat: "There are flights everyday."

Borg happened to be present at the Wimbledon center court, the court that made Bjorn Borg a household name for fans all over the world. Would Borg give up his record or even share time on top of the heap? He predicted that this Wimbledon would belong to the Spaniard, not the Swiss Champion from Basel, Switzerland.

The Federer/Nadal match started like many Wimbledon championships in tournament history... with rain and a delay in play. Fortunately, London weather changes quickly. After a 30 minute delay, the tarps were removed from the playing surface and the wheels were put in motion.

Rafa went through his usual routine, a very superstitious player, changing nothing in his routine and very careful to follow his regimen. Federer looked as cool as can be, walking out onto center court and waving to the crowd, mostly full of Fed-Fans, and looking dapper, sporting his Wimbledon 2008 cardigan, with his "RF" Roger Federer insignia on the front right. After his warm-up with Nadal, Federer moseyed on up to the center of the court at the net, ready for the ceremonial coin toss and preparation for the match. Nadal, as another one of his superstitions, leisurely arrived at center court with Federer, fashionably late in jumping around as he usually does, looking like a boxer ready for a big bout. The coin was tossed, and Nadal chooses "heads" and "heads" it was. Rafa served first.

You have to earn them... both players earned their points and both Nadal and Federer gave everything they had in this match. To attempt to explain how this match progressed "in the written word" would be like trying to describe the color green of the Wimbledon grass or the smell of strawberries and cream served for breakfast at Wimbledon. You simply have to see it to truly understand the splendor of it. Undoubtedly, this match will be played over and over again for those who unfortunately missed watching this tremendous athletic event unfold live. Wimbledon 2008 was televised to the biggest television audience in the history of Wimbledon TV telecasts. Broadcast in dozens of languages in over 60 countries around the world and in front of billions of people, the world was treated to an annual event that hasn't lost its excitement, it's romance, it's respect between player and audience or it's rich British tradition.
