Wow, the freelance author, Daniel Greenfield, is something else! He managed to do what I could never figure out how to do; He somehow managed to write a solid, humorous article that touches on just about every hot topic out there in the world today - From Islamo-Nazism to polar bears! Say what you want, but them freelancers can be mighty crafty when they want to... Of course, I'm pretty sure a Canadian beer or two may have been harmed in the making of the following article:

H/T - Matamoros, who also provided the photo and the caption below it:

"Phew!, that's a relief; they had me quite worried there for a while. Be a sweetie and grab us another warm beer will ya luv ?......and while yer at it, some walrus chips to eat while I watch the ice hockey on TV."

Islamic Terrorism vs Global Warming
Don't Pity the Polar Bear, Pity the Endangered Liberal

By Daniel Greenfield -Canada Free Press

Unlike the Egyptian Copt, the Iranian Bahai, the Kashmiri Hindu, the Kosovo Serb, the moderate Muslim or the Gaza Jew-- the Polar Bear is not an endangered species. Unlike even the native Londoner or Parisian who still speaks his or her native tongue and attends a church rather than a mosque, the Polar Bear isn't even threatened.

The Polar Bear population has actually been on the rise and while theoretical climate change computer models may claim that the Polar Bear will be in trouble-- all told the Polar has it pretty good.

For one thing, unlike the threatened populations mentioned above, the Polar Bear can fairly safely cross from floe to floe without expecting to encounter a suicide bomber, an Iranian missile, or some hate imprinted denizen of the Middle East who has been fasting for a month and thinks Polar Bears are an abomination unless draped in black sackcloth.

That is the Polar Bear is fairly safe because unlike the rest of us, it lives far up North and well away from any major Islamic population centers, which are the real threat. While liberals have been vociferously insisting that the "mythical" threat of terrorism cooked up by Karl Rove in an ideological laboratory somewhere with a Bunsen Burner and a team of cooking experts is no match for the "real threat" of Global Warming, the casualty tolls from Islamic Terrorism vs Global Warming would testify otherwise.

I would not pity the Polar Bear myself. For one thing he is better adapted to dealing with the real world than the liberals who would protect him are.

When a Polar Bear is attacked, he does not blame himself for the attack or agonize over whether he has any right to defend himself or not. He does not agonize over whether his species has any right to exist or wonder why his attackers hate him. As such it is likely that Polar Bears will outlive Western liberals, once the latter have succeed in finally decimating the societies they live in and the civil and military elements that protect them from the consequences of their own suicidally willful stupidities-- of which declaring the Polar Bear an endangered species is only a minor footnote.

If Liberals had any sense at all, instead of placing Polar Bears on the endangered species list, they should be placing themselves there. After all the number of countries and places, habitats if you will, where one can be an Atheist, a Homosexual, mock religion, draw cartoons, engage in transgressive performance art or demand that your country surrender to the enemy is rapidly shrinking. It doesn't take a computer model to estimate that the number of places where one can successfully be a liberal will continue going down as countries grow more and more Islamically oriented.

Polar Bears could better survive moving to Pasadena than Liberals could survive under an Islamic regime. But of course Polar Bears deserve protection far more than Western Dhimmitude Liberals do. After all the Polar Bears are not actively destroying their own habitats, attacking the people who are trying to protect them or otherwise ensuring their own destruction.

Ultimately the worst thing about the liberal agenda is that like a virus it is self-destructive, undermining even the conditions for its own existence. In limited doses liberalism can keep a society honest. In unlimited doses it sends the society into toxic shock.

More liberalism only produces the civil pollution that is a case of Liberalism frantically injecting the toxin that will kill it first and foremost. No Polar Bear would ever be that stupid.

Below is a post from last year before Doug and I reconciled in our marriage. It was days like these that kept me buoyed up, head above water, long after my emotional boat sank.

*****************************************************************************

The following picture won the editor's choice on a photography website that is holding a contest. The picture is mine. I just thought I would share it. Photography to me is about sharing the beautiful images that the photographer may find and capture. It is among other things, an art form. I am blessed to be able to see this scene very close to my house. It is a place I see when I am walking to the grocery store to get groceries and as you can see, it is very peaceful here.

I feel that a lot of my blogs have been about negative things, so.... to balance out the negative I have decided to post something positive.

The store I work in, is sometimes a negative since so many things go into working there that are negative, but TRULY to have a job right now is a great big thumbs up!

My girls, "A" and "A" are high maintenance and not always "fun" to take care of. But a huge blessing to me. Without them, I would be very very sad and lonely.

We have no car and must push a baby's umbrella stroller to the store past these trees, on the way there to put our groceries on. Invariably, a total stranger will say to me, "Oh you forgot your baby!" Or "you lost your baby" jokingly.

I just smile back. Passing these trees in the picture makes everything about not having a car and pushing a baby stroller full of groceries home, worth the trip!

BTW: gas is 3.25 $ a gallon here.

"Fuí forzado a renunciar," dice Polanski.

Curious but good news, The United Nations is sending an Racism Investigator out for a three week tour of the United States. Quoting the Reuters story:

"The special rapporteur will...gather first-hand information on issues related to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance,; a U.N. statement said on Friday. His three-week visit, at U.S. government invitation, will cover eight cities -- Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, Omaha, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Race has become a central issue in the U.S. election cycle because Sen. Barack Obama, the frontrunner in the battle for the Democratic nomination battle, stands to become the country's first African American president. His campaign has increased turnout among black voters but has also turned off some white voters in a country with a history of slavery and racial segregation." END QUOTE. For the entire story, click here ---> http://www.reuters.com/article/newsOne/idUSL1684309820080516?sp=true

I am not exactly sure how to take this story, because the story doesn't delineate exactly what Particulars he will be looking into. The Prison System? The Justice System? Society In General? The Black experience in America? The Hispanic Experience ? The Anglo or Asian Experience?

Yes I am being a bit coy here. I really want to know who this investigator, Doudou Diene, from Senegal, is going to talk to. Will he be speaking to the General Public? Will he be speaking to civic leaders? Will he be speaking to politicians? Which Ones? I want to know what questions he's gonna ask. You can skew, either positively or negatively, a Lot of information with How you frame a question and to whom you frame it.

I have faith that the U.N. in General and Mr.Diene have the best Interests of the U.N. Involved, and will do the best they can. But I would Like some more Information on this. The Itinerary and the questions and the people involved besides Himself. If you have any Information in that vein, drop me a Line, and let me know!

BTW, Does the U.N. targeting Xenophobia mean there gonna come after me because I think Tourists suck? :-0

You know How I call Myself a Libertarian. There is a man running for president who none of you may have heard of, and he is Looking to get the Nod of The Libertarian Party. Since I have spoken of Barack Obama and John McCain and Hillary Clinton and Ralph Nader in this space, I thought It would be only fair to speak of this man and His Views, seeing how he is looking to be nominated by the Libertarian party as it's candidate.

Bob Barr is a Former 3 term Republican Representative of Northern Georgia, having served from 1995 to 2003. According to Wikipedia:

"During his tenure, Barr was regarded as one of the most conservative members of Congress.[16] In 2002, he was described as "the idol of the gun-toting, abortion-fighting, IRS-hating hard right wing of American politics".[13] However, Barr's criticism of the Bush administration's encroachment on privacy and other civil liberties after the 9/11 attacks was unusual among House Republicans.[13] This criticism earned Barr other labels such as maverick,[13] Jekyll-and-Hyde,[17] and libertarian.[15]" , END QUOTE. For the entire Wiki article, click here---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Barr

He was Stridently against The medicinal use of Marijuana but has since changed position. He had passed legislation that says that Only Marriages between a Man and a Woman can be federally recognized, but Opposes the Federal Marriage Amendment. He Voted for The Patriot act, but only after "Sunset clauses" were put in to put a Time limit on the Patriot act.

     Another quote from Wikipedia:

"Barr is best known for his role as one of the House managers during the Clinton impeachment trial. It was Barr who first introduced a resolution directing Judiciary Committee to inquire into impeachment proceedings[36]— months before the Monica Lewinsky scandal came to light. Chief among the concerns Barr cited at the time was apparent obstruction of Justice Department investigations into Clinton campaign fundraising from foreign sources, chiefly China.[37]"

This man is all over the board, at least as far as I see it, which isn't necessarily bad, but Not necessarily good either. He Works with the American Conservative Union, and has worked with the NRA, and is also a Member of the A.C.L.U. Never thought I'd see any combination of those three in the same sentence without a fight involved. He wants to fight government power, which he (correctly) thinks has grown since 9/11.

I have a real problem tho, with the Conservatism here. I have always seen the Conservatives, and the Neocons, as a real threat to American Liberty, Much more so than the Democrats. That's why I generally side with The dems on most issues. They Don't threaten My liberty like the Conservatives do. The Conservatives have for the last eight years put security ahead of Liberty and Freedom, And the need and push for security by our government, for our own good, is a greater threat to our freedoms then Osama Bin Laden is to our lives today. I'd much rather not have big brother watch me.

As Much as I would Like to support this guy, he looks, too much for my liking, Like he was cut from the same mold as Newt Gingrich and the Neocons. He Might be Pro-Liberty, but he is too far a right leaning conservative for my liking. But if he wanted to talk to me about it, I think I could be convinced to listen. But he'd have to do one helluva job of convincing me he won't follow the generally poisonous Republican agenda.

That's it for The Politics and the news, Onto Music.

Guitar: Had a pretty good day playing today.

I played the Single string Alternative picking chromatic exercises, ascending, descending, and alternating.

I played the two string, four note per string, one octave major scales, In all keys.

I played the two string, four note per string, one octave minor scales, in all keys.

I played arpeggios, minor sevenths, ascending and descending, in all keys.

I noodled. The Noodling happened mainly in two main keys, E major and A major. The Majority of the Stuff in E Major was country-ish sounding at times, very twangy, while the A major stuff was very METAL!

The real news playing wise was the extra attention to detail I gave the Major and Minor scales. I was not pleased with the way it was going early, so I just decided to play every single one several times Until I was comfortable playing it, and could do it three times without a Mistake. The worst were the scales starting on the third string, going to the second. I botched the handoff from one string to another a BAZILLION Times. Sometimes after 7 or 8 times going through and getting a scale right, that move up one fret kicked my ass and I'd goof it, have to go back and get it right. THAT Annoyed the Hell outta me. So I was significantly longer with my scales than usual, but all for a good cause. Making myself a better musician. By the end of them I was much more comfortable playing them, and that was the point of the exercise.

Kata temanku..."Aku risi mbak, tapi mau bagaimana lagi, habis bapak pimpinan yang lain kayaknya tak terlalu memperhatikan," kata temanku lagi.

Pertanyaannya, bagaimana cara menjelaskannya.

The Mean Seasons: Fables Vol. 5 - Willingham et. al. I am enjoying this graphic novel series so much

The Mean Seasons: Fables Vol. 5 - Willingham et. al. I am enjoying this graphic novel series so much. I spent an evening sitting in a cafe composing a post on the awesomeness of one of the main characters. The series is not unproblematic, but it's better than a lot and it is fairytales not retold but... matured? continued? and thrown into a difficult situation they have to deal with or perish. Snow continues to be amazing, Bigby to be difficult, everyone has their own agendas and jealousies, and they are beginning to be under threat not only from the old world but from elements of the new and from their own rules. Will the triumph of democracy be a deathblow for Fabletown? Will investigative journalists expose the secret at the heart of 21st century New York? Will true love triumph? And will anyone ever cut Snow a break? I wish comics weren't so expensive. I'm trying to not buy more than one volume of this a month, but I bought vol. 6 a week after this one.

Batman - A Death in the Family . My first actual Batman encounter other than the movies and The Daily Batman, so while I enjoyed reading it (and found the idea of readers "voting Robin off") I don't really have any framework within which to review it. But seeing the Joker so much gave me a jawache.

Assorted short comics acquired at Supanova - these were out of context for me, both in terms of the continuing stories and the sort of comics they are, so I won't review them. Also, I was disconcerted by the artwork being so much weaker than what I am used to seeing and so much better than mine.

Labyrinths - Borges. Finally. And yes, he is gorgeous. He reminds me of Umberto Eco, but perhaps took himself a little more seriously. His short stories, essays and poems tread between fantasy (sometimes reminding me of Lovecraft) and philosophy, theology, impossible hypotheticals, all short enough that they leave you room to go off on thoughts of your own. I would sit on the bus pondering the relationship between his examination of 'The Argentine Writer and Tradition' and the cultural cringe and the landscape in Australian speculative fiction until I began to suspect the reason I was having trouble concentrating at work that week was because I was thinking too much outside it. The final poem in the collection was 'Elegy' which contained the very lovely line: "to have grown old in so many mirrors" which reminded me of Elliot but is both more beautiful and just as tragic.

The Game - Diana Wynne Jones. As lively and convoluted (plot and story and characters all) as any of her stories, but in other ways just as reserved. The story of the paths of the mythosphere, the interconnectedness of families and stories and myths and legends (the Sysiphus strand which reaches out to the legend of Sysiphus at one end, but closer to home is office workers dealing with never-empty in-trays), the whirling wheeling stars (which reminded me of P. L. Travers at her best) are so rich and ripe and vivid and yet DWJ holds back so much, telling only the barest part of the story and leaving the reader wanting so very much more. Not that the story is untold, but she has shown and hinted at wonders and worlds just over the edge of it and then pared back to only the core of her tale. It is incredibly frustrating. I wrote to the DWJ list that "DWJ is very good at giving the impression that there are stories spilling over the edge of the one you are reading, that there are worlds and events and tales that you can't quite turn the page to read although you *want* to, and that she probably won't tell you ever because they aren't necessary to the (quite wonderful) story at hand. Lately, however, she seems to be developing this to a very fine pitch - as if she has worked out the bare minimum she needs to actually tell to convey the story she wants to tell you, while hinting at an even more voluminous universe. The story she is telling works and is very very good, but as a reader I am convinced that there is *so much more out there* that it becomes a kind of exquisite torture." The worst part is that I know from experience that even if she does write a sequel, it will probably be about an extremely peripheral character and is unlikely to take place in the same universe.

The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat - Oliver Sacks. If you ever saw Awakenings with Robin Williams, Williams played Sacks. This is a series of case studies of patients with various neurological anomalies - twin savants, a 'disembodied' woman, a musician who ceases to recognise faces (not just the faces of certain individuals but human faces at all), people whose lives are held together with music or who can only walk upright by means of a spirit level attached to their spectacles, who recognise expression but not words or words but not expression. It is fascinating and alarming but most interesting because he treats his patients less as fascinating cases than as interesting, complicated people, whose 'problems' may not be problems at all, or part of a continuum of human experience. I was glad I read this after Borges, for Sacks referred to him (and particularly his story 'The Mnemonist') several times.

I have a new philosophical question: when does the line to Starbucks begin?

Teaching at a city school means students can leave the building during the day, and often we leave at the same time. If I suspect they’re headed where I am—the Starbucks across the street and down the block—is it rude to pass them well before we arrive?

The line to Starbucks isn’t physical. It’s a perception—an imaginary point where the civility of lining up takes effect. And it’s conceptual—a question of what a line IS anyway and why it matters where it is or whether it is.

And that line can also be philosophical. Are all lines human inventions? Is there a neo-platonic notion of linedness…or am I just being foolish?

In high school and college I worked in a movie theatre. Because ribbon mazes weren’t in widespread use then, I couldn’t rely on customers to wait for the next server. Every shift, a few people missed seeing a line or walked past it to stand expectantly at the counter. In that situation, I decided who was next, weighing the claims on my attention. “First-come First-served” usually worked, but, as my focus centered on the person right in front of me, I didn’t always notice the last person in line when a new person walked up. And, okay, part of me always wanted to penalize the line-breaker. Invariably I left someone so long they departed with a huff.

To be fair, the lines weren’t always easy to identify but, once people witnessed the success of bellying up to the counter, and notion of “a line” disappeared entirely. I hated that.

I believe in lines and am sometimes miffed when a car swerves onto the shoulder to skirt patiently waiting vehicles. I politely alert other customers to lines when they pass them by and am suitably appalled when I’m ignored. I let ties to the line-up point go to the other person, believing myself the soul of courtesy.

Yet, I also join my family already in line and would let a friend in too, if one suddenly appeared. Sometimes, when the highway drops to one lane, I zip down the disappearing one telling myself all the other drivers are silly not to take advantage of the lane while it’s there. I think, someone will let me in.

I can always come up with a reason why the law of taking turns doesn’t apply to moi.

On my Starbucks trips, the minute I emerge from the school with a student in front of me, the internal war begins. Do I slow down—really, do they have to be so pokey, are they only getting a coffee in their own cup like me—or do I speed up—really do I have to be so competitive, am I in so big a hurry?

This debate makes me think lines aren’t created by ribbons. They are an exercise in temporarily putting others before ourselves and are created by the people in line, those who’ve made a tacit agreement that, though cuing up will slow them down, turns are still the best way.

But I also wonder. In the absence of those ribbons, does self-restraint apply? If lines are emblems of self-restraint, aren’t they as suspect as the whole concept of human self-restraint?

I’ve been teaching absolutism and the Enlightenment in my history class this week, and, in the battle between Hobbes and Locke, Locke has been taking a beating. He's reeling. While some of my students find Locke’s social compact inspiring, others suspect he’s fooling himself when he says we’ll give up some individual liberty in trust to leaders who know they serve us. Hobbes, they say, sees people straight—humans only care about getting theirs. These students are also taking biology this year and tell me social biologists would agree. It’s only in us to survive in order to reproduce, they tell me, and any collective behavior lasts only as long as it agrees with that all-consuming aim.

Well, if scientists say it, I’m a fool to disagree, but I’d rather Locke was right. In any case, in the absence of absolute, irrefutable proof, I’d rather live as if Locke were right. Though ignoring my own Hobbesian brutishness seems perilous, I can’t give up trying.

Some people are never in line. They explain shortcuts and “expediencies” by saying no one stopped them and that, until you’re made to do something, you can do what you want. Maybe, but I’m not sure I want to live in a world where not getting a turn is your own fault because you weren’t aggressive enough.

I’ll accept my Hobbesian lapses, but I don’t want to contribute to aggression ruling all. I guess I’ll have to be in the line to Starbucks…always.

By now everyone has heard about Megan Meier, the young girl who killed herself in October when she was 13. The details of the story are rather bizzare, and bring up all sorts of discourse about how far we should go in prosecuting a 49 year old woman who, for whatever reason, thought that she could tick off Megan enough through this fake identity to leave a relationship that I guess didn't even really exist or only on cyberspace or, yeah it's really weird. If the girl was having a relationship with someone online that didn't even exist in the first place, I don't know.

I won't even begin to understand how a 49 year old got dragged into a fight that adolescents were having anyway, particularly online. How can you intentionally manipulate someone like that online, and not even using your own profile but one someone set up for you at that? What's worse is that I am to understand that this women actually knew the girl in real life.

People have debated this issue to death about how hypersensitive people who are depressed can be. If you've never been depressed or suicidal yourself you would have no clue as how you can magnify these issues. They should have left Megan alone; on the other hand, and what no one really likes to talk about, is that this shows that Megan had been depressed for quite some time, had kept it to herself, and most likely would have found any irrational excuse to kill herself. Opportunity presented itself and she took that fatal leap; some of us come back from that and some of us never get there, it's that simple.

It's a sick way of looking at it but again unless you're suicidal yourself you can't really comment on it. I've spoken on this issue before, particularly with the Virginia Tech situation; what is it about a society that allows so many people to fall through the cracks and so successfully enables so many people to commit suicide that it takes a tragedy like that one, or this one, to really get someone's attention. I hate to see someone go at such a young age, I mean 13 life can change and turn itself around so quickly you wouldn't even realize it. You haven't experienced anything you know absolutely nothing at that age.

Nothing is going to come from this; perhaps the woman will get the full 20 years in jail hopefully she is isolated from the general population and she actually gets to see those full 20 years. We heard about this a while back and had completely forgotten about it except for now that an actual ruling has been reached. We'll have a few far reaching laws on the books created as a result of it but then they too will be diminished because individuals that already have a problem with some of the perversion that goes on in MySpace and other social-networks will begin using those laws to their own advantage, instead of within the context that they were designed for.

Sure it's great that there has been some justice, but it won't have any effect on social-networking at all and certainly won't change or educate the public about depression or suicide whatsoever. Those are the real issues at stake, because quite honestly, privacy advocates will be protecting anonymity on social-networking sites long after I've died of old age. There aren't any tools that are going to protect anyone from anything as long as the lines continue to be crossed and adults continue to use the sites to do stuff they wouldn't be able to do in real life; such as confronting the person in real life, as the woman could have, or perhaps she couldn't because she was so close to the girls parents, yeah right.

What's even worse is that because it is an incident between an adult and a child we'll never really know what truly happened. The adult is always the bad one because they are supposed to be more mature and details are almost always left out when the general public gets a hold of the news. At the same time it seems to be that, more and more, adults fail to use any discretion when dealing with children anyway. That same perverse society that treats children like adults and emboldens them and gives them the authority to talk to adults any kind of way and disrespects them on the one hand, goes to extreme lengths to protect them from evil that their own parents should have been more vigilant about fighting against, on the other.

There was no MySpace for me at 13, heck I was still playing with Atari. In fact I didn't even get to chat until I was like 20, and that was on Gopher using Telnet. But would it have made a difference, perhaps; I had the same old friends and associates and the Internet could have opened up a whole new world to me at the time. I wouldn't be talking to schoolmates or people I saw every day either to me that seems like such a poor use of the technology but to each their own. I mean there are people across the world you can hook up with, but anyway. But we feared our parents; if we took a plane flight to Greece we just didn't come back for fear of what our parents would do to us. That's like, opening up the car door on the way back from the airport and falling out of the car at high speed and running away type of trouble; like you're no longer welcome in your home anymore.

Yet times have changed, for some the Internet is a fantasy but for others it is quite real. If you don't already know watch the tapes of that girl getting jumped and beat down that was played over and over again in the news. A reflection of how much different life has become, and how much it is still the same; technology rarely changes anything when it comes to human behavior ...

The Problem is not conservatism, but conservatives who aren’t conservative
A Simple Conservative

The Problem is not conservatism, but conservatives who aren’t conservative

A Simple Conservative Message

There is a lot of anguish among Republicans as they look at the dismal polls and the even more depressing performance of their candidates in various preliminary House races. New books and prophets forecast an end to conservatism, and a need to formulate a new sort of muscular liberalism to meet new challenges. Expect more such nostrums if Barack Obama wins in the fall.

What mystifies is the paralysis of Republicans and their impotent protestations that “Bush did it”. The truth is that Congressional Republicans, responsible for turning principles into governance, deserve to lose—unless they craft clear positions that won’t be compromised and then offer them as alternative choices to the voters this fall. Here are some examples:

Spending: a balanced budget, no exceptions. Voters are tired of hearing that this or that projection assures a balanced budget in 2, 3, or 5 years. Revenues continue to soar after the tax cuts, so the problem is too much going out, not too little coming in. Surpluses are preferable to deficits, since we want to retire, not add to out foreign debt. Just say no—or better yet “Please pay for it” — the next time a new entitlement is introduced.

The War: Afghanistan and Iraq have radically improved. Anti-war hype and slurs are a year out of date. We are finally on the edge of having done the impossible: removed the most odious regimes in the Middle East and fostered constitutional governments in their places. Spending on general defense and the war still run at only 4% of GDP, not high by historical levels. The reforming Petraeus army is stronger and wiser, despite the toll of war, for our ordeals in the Middle East. As troops slowly begin to come home next year, let everyone take credit for it.

Energy: Drill, explore, conserve. The answer does not lie in any one area, but in the willingness to produce more energy in all of them. We must ensure more oil, coal, and nuclear power, conserve more energy as we produce more—to prevent going broke while we transition to next-generation fuels.

Why should others abroad, who are far less careful, extract oil for us in areas of the world more fragile than our own? We must end the notion that ANWR only yields a million barrels a day, or the coasts only 2 million, or tar sands or shale only a million, or nuclear power and coal only so many megawatts of power. To paraphrase, Sen. Dirksen—‘a million barrels a day here, a million there, pretty soon it adds up to real production.’

Economy: We are in a natural down cycle, not the Great Depression—interest rates, unemployment, economic growth, and stock prices do not reflect a recession. Use this downturn as a warning not to spend what we don’t have when things rebound.

Immigration: Close the border, and then, and only then, argue over what’s next. Stop illegal entries, while we promote assimilation, the English language, integration, and education in American civics. Do that and most of our seemingly insurmountable problems will shrink as we endlessly bicker over amnesty, guest workers, and legal quotas.

Trade: free and supervised trade creates more jobs, makes us more competitive, and fosters alliances. Protectionism does the opposite. Americans like to compete and usually win—when they know the rules of the contest are fair and clearly explained to them.

Foreign Policy: Neither provoke nor talk to our enemies in the Middle East, Asia, or South America. Instead, cultivate our allies, build our defenses—and be ready for anything.

Homeland Security: the framework is in place. Let the Democrats try to repeal it. Let them make the argument that the Patriot Act and Guantanamo haven’t made us safer.

Ethics: Warn Republicans that in matters of sex, influence peddling, and graft, the Party of family values suffers the additional wage of hypocrisy. So the tolerance level for these sins is zero.

If Republicans could adopt such a simple message, stick to it, and find the most articulate spokespeople, they could still win.

The Alternative

Why? Because for all the charisma, Barack Obama advocates antitheses that most in most years would not otherwise choose—higher taxes, more government spending; pie-in-the-sky promises of wind and solar while gas hits $5 a gallon; more government intrusion into the economy that leaves us with more obstacles after the economy improves on its own; more illegal aliens as we talk in lofty terms of “comprehensive immigration reform,” a de facto euphemism for open borders; a protectionism that only antagonizes friends, drives prices higher, and insulates us from reality; and a multilateralist foreign policy, patterned after UN leadership, in which we deny rather than confront challenges.

In short, the Republicans’ problem? They forgot who they were and can’t explain what they might be. They need to go back to basics, adopt conservative principles to confront new challenges, and then find the most effective spokesmen they can to explain their positions—hourly.

On Mother's Day we all went to see the new movie Speed Racer. Now we don't get to the movie theater very often so when we do it's a big deal.

(picture from http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1808406004/info)

Here is our opinion:

The story line was a bit confusing for our children 11 and 7. They had many questions afterwards. This isn't always bad as it provides plenty of teachable moments, but I think maybe there was a little too much that they didn't get or couldn't follow. Of course they loved the action and cars but I think my older one really wanted to get more out of it then that.

It was visually impressive, I thought. I think they spent a lot of money on it and you could tell. It was exciting and kept your attention.

The overall underlying morals were good. The main character, Speed, was promised lots of money and career advances but he didn't take it from the begining. I thought it might be a story about him taking it and then realizing his mistake and coming back but he stuck with his family and what he thought was right from the begining.

Of course with any movie there was language that I think should have been avoided. The little boy gave someone the finger and there were girls dressed inappropriately. At one point I felt like my hubby and I were deciding if we were going to stay for the rest but it turned around with a decent story and less language (it seemed). It would be so nice if people could use their imagination a little and leave all the extra junk out. Do people really write companies and say "To Whom it May Concern, I wish there were more curse words in kids movies."?

Overall we thought 3 out of 5 apples.

On that note I have a riddle for you. What vehicle can you spell the same backward and forward?

Have a "Speedy" Day!

My favorite childhood memory:

I had previously gone to a forum that had a thread topic of "What is your favorite childhood memory"... So, I replied about mine and I thought I would share that here as well.

When I was younger, I would love to go outside at night because it was so much more peaceful and quiet than in the day time when everyone is running about. There was a place that I would like to go and lay down flat so that I could look up at the sky and see all of the vast array of stars.

As I would lay there in silience, I would think about how big I thought the universe was and if it were that big, how big is heaven beyond it. At times, I would feel myself grasping at the grass blades because it would feel as though I could at any moment, just float off into this black openess.

I really enjoyed at times, being able to look out and see the dome shape of our atmosphere by the galaxy line. That would only happen on very clear nights though.

I would think also about how small it made me feel and how big God must be to have been able to create such a huge amount of things and spaces. It really made me ponder on the power of God and how incredibly greatful I was for Him to care so much about someone so small (in the scheme of things).

Now when I look up and see all of the stars, I imagine how it will be when we are called to be with Him there. What will it feel like, how will it sound, what will I think, what will I say? The thoughts run through my mind like a slide show of images, trying to capture the moments as they might happen.

The thought of coming face to face with the One who created me, who knew me before I even existed is just mind blowing. I was talking with Bradley last night about how it may feel when He looks in our eyes, knowing that He 'knows' us through and through. We, I imagine, will be able to feel Him seeing into the very deepest parts of us, our thoughts, feelings, etc. It is just all so powerful and wonderful, it amazes me to no end.

I wonder what others see when they look up at the night sky on a very clear night... if they live where they can see the stars. Some may think about ufo's and aliens, or of space novas and asteroids, etc.. Hmm... I wonder. What do you think about when you look into the night sky? Please post your thoughts on this and your favorite childhood memory, in the comments section. I look forward to reading all of your thoughts.

Some of you may have seen the short youtube movie Muto and for those who have not.

Muto Movie

The future for movies may lie in this film and the impact it has had. The movie industry is a falling one, while Iron Man did earn fistful of money there was still one thing that prevented it from earning as much as many other blockbusters. There were still those who pirated and illegally downloaded and watched the movie, while some say it maybe a small percent of people who do this the issue is still there. Modern film is being hijacked by pirates and those who use and abuse there services. The movie industry is going to have its smash hits but they will become fewer and fewer and further and further apart. Something like this indie project out of BLU is what I think to be the future of movies and entertainment.

Now I am not saying that you will not have your overly produced special effects heavy movies like 300 or 10000 BC but you will see less and less short films being previewed at film festivals and instead at social networking hubs such as Facebook and MySpace. The reason, they will get greater exposure to the general public than if they preview at some small festival. Overall it will be a win win because with more exposure comes more notice among industry peers.

So in closing I think that this is one of the coolest films I have ever seen in a very long time. But I also believe it could be the peak of rise of indie filmmakers using the Internet and Youtube as there form for both release and notice.

Mamá empezó a sangrar.

Maltrataste a mi madre y me asesinaste a mí.

Y ahora me dirijo a tí.

In about three hours or so, the fate of Gretna football club will be known to club administrators W

In about three hours or so, the fate of Gretna football club will be known to club administrators Wilson Field. On Monday morning the remaining playing staff will be told if any of the bids received - assuming bids where made - will be sufficient to keep the club alive or whether, as many expect, the club will fold under a mountain of debt and cease to exist as a professional football club.

It has been reported that four potential investors have been linked to a possible deal to save the club, but no further details have been forthcoming. Amongst the possible bidders is Paul Davies, a consultant with Glasgow football agent Hume International who claims an international consortium are ready to step in should the club's accounts pass inspection and due diligence.

Whilst Gretna have done a tremendous job getting from the Third Division to the SPL in an explosive run of form, survival in the top tier was always going to be a big task even with the millions that Mileson was pumping into the club. Their home ground, Raydale, was not suitable for football at this level. Sharing a ground with Motherwell was the obvious option but the distance to travel for home games (160 mile round trip) or away games at somewhere even relatively nearby such as Dundee (312 miles) meant that support was always going to be thin on the ground.

One has to wonder then why an 'international consortium' would be interested in buying Gretna. Aside from huge debts, no playing staff , a stadium that could contain the entire population of the town and have room to spare, there is simply nothing in or around Gretna to warrant even a Third Division side. With a population slightly over 2700, Gretna is a small town to host a professional football team, by anyone's standard. The next smallest town to host a team in the League is Dingwall, home of Ross County, ironically situated as far away from Gretna as you can get in the current league setup. Dingwall's population is twice that of Gretna's yet it has successfully sustained a team since 1929, one that has never gone lower than the Second Division.

The only reason that any investor might be interested in Gretna FC is not so much the club, but rather in its place in the league. This might sound crazy, but consider for a moment what happened to Clydebank. Clydebank where another club who, when faced with financial ruin tried to relocate from town to town in order to stay in business. Carlisle (where Gretna played in the Carlisle and District League from 1946 to 1982), Galashiels and even Dublin where touted as possible alternatives before Jim Ballantyne bought control of Clydebank and relocated the club to Airdrie, changing the name to Airdrie United following the bankruptcy of Airdrieonians.

Would a potential buyer relocate the club? If so, where would they move to? Or are Gretna destined to join the ranks of other Scottish teams like Third Lanark, St Bernards and Renton, teams whose stars burned brightly, but that ultimately burned out, never to reappear again.

We'll see on Monday.

Y aqui tenemos a Hitler.

experience:

there are truckloads of people around you who will claim they are working on something just for the sake of 'experience'. they further continue their theory by saying this experience of theirs will help them in their future projects. crap. experience is not a fruit, you don't pluck it from a tree. also, like several other things (money, power, friendship, love ), you don't go looking for it, you subconsciously and involuntarily pick it up. gaining experience should never be on your agenda, it comes along, you need not specifically look for it.

dear people, please stop reinventing the wheel.

why looks are important even in business ?

ever imagined why they don't sell soft drinks like 7 up and sprite in regular bottles, the funny thing here is that you wouldn't get the feeling that you are drinking a soft drink if you are served such drink in a transparent bottle. this one example pretty much explains looks are important.

today i learnt something amazing, the mall owners who are in serious business often chose the muzak (background music ) they are playing depending upon the crowd, if there is huge crowd and they want them to disperse soon, they play fast music, but if there is very little crowd, they play soothing calm music so that the customer ends up staying at the mall for a long time and buys something.

the same effect is resonated when we're in the car and our speeds more or less depends upon the music being played in the car.

if such minute details can impact the human mind, even though subliminally, then there have to be several other places where this fact can be utilized. i am still thinking of examples where such a strategy can be applied. any ideas ?

coming back to cars, an average man spends approximately anywhere between 1 to 3 hours in his car, he will use his laptop or phone for sometime, for most part of the time he is absolutely free, this is the right time for advertisement. the problem remains, how are you going to do it ? i am still thinking, any ideas ?

Yuletido disco. Villancicos marchosos.
