You know, it not often that we encounter a situation where the ultimate result is both a combination

You know, it not often that we encounter a situation where the ultimate result is both a combination of what makes us really and at least a small part given to the answer we are looking for. Hopefully this blog will help to define what really makes us get out there.

Paul Westerberg - 3oclockkreep - *** - Another amalgamation of random bits and bops, melted into one beautiful mess. Being only 20 minutes, as compared to the earlier 45 minute piece, this one is a bit more digestable, and with one "real" track this time, it makes it just swell. It's an interesting project he's up to, with these tracks, and affordable for what you get.

McFly - Radio:ACTIVE - *** - I really do like McFly, I suppose I'm not supposed to, but they play great songs. This topic is discussed a bit in "One for the Radio" as kind of a response to those who say they aren't "cool." I like that they are able to be honest with what types of music they like to sign and play. I say keep at it boys!

Saul Zonana - Blue Monkey - ***1/2 - You cannot go wrong with Mr. Zonana. Another awesome set of great power popping songs, that sound fresh and cool. Whenever I start to doubt my love of pop music, I will just put this on, and rock out.

Plain White T's - Big Bad World - *** - More of the same, solid pop songs from this group, who broke out with "Hey There Delilah" I sort of cringed the first time I heard their "followup" 1-2-3-4, which seems to just be trying to cash in on the success of that earlier single, but after a few listens, it does kind of catch on, so who knows.

Andrew Daly - Nine Sweaters - **** - What!? Comedy again? Well yes indeedy friends, and what a comedy this is. Andy Daly put together 9 characters based on 9 sweaters. These characters are twisted and crazy and lovable all at the same time. The way he comes at these characters and the depth that some have gives this CD a fresh and fun feel.

So, in case you haven’t heard, Disney decided that the covers already out there for Nightmare

So, in case you haven't heard, Disney decided that the covers already out there for Nightmare Before Christmas would be a great way to make some money. But instead of using those covers, they hunted down their own.

I love this damn movie. And not recently. I loved it when it was in theaters and I was but a wee child. I was spooky from a young age.

I'll give you a quick rundown.

Overture(DeVotchKa)

Pretty straight-faced playthrough, nothing too wild or out there. I didn't get the feel for the cover artist, just more Nightmare stuff. Still, not bad. Listenable.

Opening (Danny Elfman)

Not technically revisiting, is it? This is all ground he's ploughed before. Cheating. Let's move on.

This Is Halloween (Marylin Manson)

This is an old cover. If you haven't heard it by now, you lose at the internet. Still, it's solid. Say what you will about Marylin Manson, he knows what songs to cover. Another solid version of this is offered up by Panic at the Disco.

Jack's Lament (All American Rejects)

Now, understand, this is my favorite song of the movie. I absolutely adore it. So when I hear that whiny voice streak through my eardrum, I wail inside. I got 20 seconds into this song before I had to turn it off, and only 4 seconds of that was comprised of vocals. Next.

Docter Finkelstein/In the Forest (Amina)

Thus far, the instrumentals are two-for-two on being good, and this one takes a step outside of what Nightmare originally laid out for it. I think this one's quite well done. Loving the theramin.

What's This? (Flyleaf)

Ugh. So, instrumentals are winning, but vocal bits are just... not clearing it. Her vocals are not quite emotive enough to handle the wonder that is supposed to be coursing through this song. She sings "What's this?" but it sounds like she really couldn't care less about what anything is.

I never in my life thought I'd write these words, but Fallout Boy did it better. You have failed. Next.

Town Meeting Song (The Polphonic Spree)

Let me just get this out of the way: I love The Polyphonic Spree. And their absolutely inspired cover of Nirvana's Lithium made me very curious to hear this. I'm really enjoying this one. It's not what I expected, but it's doing it's thing and taking me along with it. Best of the vocal songs so far. My only real complaint is that it needs to pick up the pace.

Jack and Sally Montage (The Vitamin String Quartet)

Another instrumental. Rather meh. Doesn't entice, doesn't push away. It's just there, four people on string instruments playing some music that stays just this side of spooky.

Jack's Obsession (Sparklehorse)

I didn't know you could ruin this song this badly. After all, it's a bit more obscure, and doesn't draw as much love or notice as the others. I thought this would slip under the radar of suck. I was wrong.

Kidnap the Sandy Claws (Korn)

It's Korn. I don't think I have to say any more. I started laughing at this cover not ten seconds in. I'd much rather be listening to She Wants Revenge, and even I'm able to recognize that SWR didn't do that amazing of a cover.

Making Christmas (Rise Against)

Not horrible, but the vocals just do not work for this song.

I've started down this dark path, and I will finish. Not rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail will stop me from this crap. But good God, what have I condemned myself to?

Nabbed (Yoshida Brothers)

More instrumental. More delicious things-not-sucking. Seriously, I could take half those singers to school on how you do these songs, and I'm barely passable. This track is great, really divergent from the original, displaying the Yoshida Brothers for what they are, but still keeps that kick of what the song once was.

Oogie Boogie's Song (Rodrigo y Gabriela)

So, wow. First, whatever made Disney decide to pick up these two is beyond me, but for once, God bless 'em for making a good call. This was a wonderful cover, even if you don't like two guitars playing maniacally side-by-side (which really, if you don't, what's your problem?). Gabriela's standard percussion-style strumming and Rodrigo's sharp picking make for an amazing cover here.

Sally's Song (Amy Lee)

When I first saw who was singing this, I muttered "Goddamnit." She has a solid voice, but it's so typical, putting the lead singer of Evanescence on this kind of project. Still. She did a very solid job, and I really can't complain. It doesn't compete with Fiona Apple's version at all. I think the two bring their own things to the table, and shouldn't have to fight for the lead.

Christmas Eve Montage (RJD2)

Meh.

Poor Jack (Plain White T's)

First of all... what? The Hey-There-Delilah assholes covering Nightmare Before Christmas music? And... wow. This... isn't terrible. Crap. Have my standards fallen so low that this is good, or is it good on its own?

To the Rescue (Datarock)

The first few measures of standard uhn-tiss made me concerned. Largely, not bad, but not incredible. Feels like that's become the mantra of this CD (alongside "singers can't sing").

Finale/Reprise (Shiny Toy Guns)

And welcome to why I'm here. Hearing this is a terrible tease. It makes me want to hear them cover the whole album. I can only imagine how they'd kick ass at What's This, Sally's Song (though I'd wager Carah would swing it better than Sisley). Ah, well. Damn.

Closing (Danny Elfman)

Cheating.

End Title (The Album Leaf)

Maybe we go through a lot of suck, but this is prettymuch the best way to wrap up this CD.

In the end? I'd say don't buy it, just download the good tracks.

Well known for the mega huge success of the gripping pop candy “Hey There Delilah,” the Plain White T’s put forth Big Bad World. The title seems very appropriate, as I imagine these young popsters are going to find out just how cruel and uncompromising the world can become.

PWT’s seem to have taken a big step back, gambling on trading their pop rock sensibility for sappy teen inspired lyrics and forgettable bubble gum pop jingles. One can only guess at the possible success of the album, but songs like “That Girl” and “Meet You In California” spin narratives of unconvincing and lackluster sentiments.

About the Artists
Panic At The Disco released their sophomore album, Pretty. Odd. on March 25, 2008 through Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen. While the album is equally as catchy and infectious as their debut, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, the new album was created as an expansive pop album that channels the ghosts of Brian Wilson, The Beatles and The Zombies. The band's previous album sold over 2.2 million copies, and their single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" became a #1 hit on MTV, snagging the Best Video award in 2006.

Dashboard Confessional, led by critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Chris Carrabba, has had three consecutive gold records - The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most (2001), A Mark A Mission A Brand A Scar (2003), and Dusk and Summer (2006). The band toured with U2 and wrapped up their last headline run in 2006 with a sold out Madison Square Garden show. They are putting the finishing touches on a new album, which was produced by Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger.

Joining Panic At The Disco and Dashboard Confessional are very special guests Plain White T's and The Cab. Plain White T's are about to release Big Bad World the highly anticipated follow-up to the band's platinum-plus-selling breakthrough release Every Second Counts. On the strength of mega-hit single "Hey There Delilah," which rocketed to No. 1 in 10 countries and was the fourth song in history to sell over 3 million digital downloads, Every Second Counts sold over a million and a half copies worldwide and earned the Chicago quintet not one, but two Grammy nominations. The Cab are the next up-and-coming band that will soon become a household name. They released their debut album, Whisper War, on April 29th through Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen.

I know a place that we can go to
A place where no one knows you...

Darn! It has been 24 hours since I put this song into repeat mode in all my players. I even slept with my iPod on.

What makes this song special? Well, first it falls under the alternative genre. Second, the romantic lyrics. But there are a lot of songs with the same attribute, so why get hooked with this one?

We can get away to a better place
If you let me take you there
We can go there now cause every second counts
Girl just let me take you there
Take you there

I guess it gives me that feeling that one day, a man will come into my life - someone so wonderful I'd trust him with all that I have, someone who will make me feel secured, someone who will be able to accept me for who I am, together with all my flaws and the weirdness that comes with it - and he will take me to a place where only our love for each other will matter, that even the hardest obstacles would be worth fighting for. He will take me to a place where love can heal any pain. He will take me to a place where we can appreciate everything about each other, where we can open up to new things, a place where we will be bonded by our similarities, as well as our differences. A place where we coudn't ask for more. A place called everywhere. And I am certain that fate and the Higher Being who controls it will lead us to each other.

Again, love is a wonderful thing, but it's at its best when you're at the right place and at the right time - and sooner or later, it will come, usually when you least expect it. Embrace this reality and things will eventually fall in their proper places. Don't be afraid to fall in love, and don't regret it. As long as it made you happy, and you learned, then you'll be ok. The pain will linger for a while, but it is what makes you stronger.

... It is what makes you who you are.

----------------------------

Fine, fine, fine.

The song is about sex.

And it was a personal choice to not interpret it that way - but I'm not trying to be this little miss goody-two-shoes.

*sigh*

I hope its not too late to fix the heart I'm breaking.
I've made a mistake.

I am not a church going man, but I'm in desperate need of forgiveness.
I've lost track of who I really am,
My own mother won't believe that I've did this.
I deserve nothing less than the worst you can do,
Father please make me more like you

I've made a serious mistake,
I hope its not too late to fix the heart I'm breaking.
I've made a serious mistake,
I hope its not too late to fix the heart I'm breaking.
I've made a mistake

ooohh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh oh

I keep on letting myself down.
Even the rats say they don't want me around.
But every heart will someday break,
Everyone will make mistakes, wanna live with no regrets, walk the fine line between love and sex.
I deserve nothing less than the worst you can do.
Father please make me more like you.

I've made a serious mistake,
I hope its not too late to fix the heart I'm breaking.
I've made a mistake

To fix the heart im breaking
I've made a serious mistake
And I hope its not too late to fix the heart
I'm breaking
I'm breaking
I'm breaking
I've made a mistake

I am not a church going man but Father please won't you hear my confessions.

Today's RB release Tuesday is quite special because this past Sunday, September 14th, Rock Band 2 was released! The new game is already getting phenomenal reviews, scoring 9/10 from IGN and Xbox Magazine, just to name a few. Check out a collusion of many reviews here: Rock Band 2 on Metacritic.com

As you might have guessed, it isn't really a whole new entire game. The gameplay remains the same for the most part, and the interface looks almost identical, though admittedly it does look sharper and more polished up. The addition of new modes and the tweaking of gameplay aspects of the first game all add up to a respectable, and certainly purchasable sequel. One mode that will certainly be family (or drunk) friendly is the option of a "No Fail Mode." So handing the drum sticks over to grandma won't seem as questionable as bringning in troy Percival anymore. Plus, actually having your family play with you without the downer of failing the song is great, not to mention fun and a great family activity.

I also like the freestyle. I can guarantee that there are quite a few of us out there that have wanted to drum along with some of our favorite (legally downloaded) songs! The freestyle mode allows this, as you can drum over any MP3 file you have on your 360 or PS3!

The trainers I've read are pretty cool too, as you are taught some techniques and beats on drums which can aid in your own personal transformation from drum neophyte to the Joey Jordison of rubber pads and plastic foot pedals!

And of course, the soundtrack, all of master recordings, is pretty amazing- perhaps the best possible combination of classics and modern songs! If you want to check out the list of songs on Rock Band 2 out for your self, click here: Rock Band 2 Song List!.

Here at the heap. we don't have an xbox 360, let alone any of those types of games. We're just avid enthusiasts... and we love the friends that have the game and let us jam.

Along with Sunday's release of RB2, there were a few new songs added as well. On September 11, TV personality Stephen Colbert's "band" Stephen and the Colberts only known song called Charlene (I'm Right Behind You). Today, four songs from four bands on the "Rock Band Tour" concert released songs. A band called The Cab released One of Those Nights. Panic At The Disco released She's A Hansdsome Woman from their new album Pretty Odd. Plain White T's catchy song Natural Disaster (which I've seen live) is also available along side Dashboard Confessional's classic Hands Down. If that isn't enough, Megadeth's entire album Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, guaranteed to be pretty darn hard! We'll leave you with some Videos of the DLC and some highlights of RB2!
