Every day I make sure that thing's full.

I also bought 5 of these from Office Max (and Andrea painstakingly wrote our address front and back on each one) and stuck them at the intersections leading into our subdivision but the city took them away because of some ordinance, of which the sheriff came by to inform me...

Then he took a flyer. And Andrea's boyfriend's dad took a flyer. And probably all of our neighbors have, out of curiosity, because we've gone through lots of flyers.

But by gosh, we have yet to run out!

(Speaking of Rodney, here he is - had he been 42 - in 1980. Ha Ha! I just can't get over this. And me! Aww, Class Couple):

I resort to things like this to subdue my house-anxiety. It helps.

Look at this big butterfly net outside the door:

I got a butterfly net for my 8th birthday - I'll never forget. One day I came inside and my mom was in tears laughing at me. "Wha...?" She'd been at the window watching me chase down a butterfly with that net - swiping it this way and that, and never able to catch the darn thing. I guess I looked funny? Thanks for the encouragement, mom.

As soon as we walked in, butterflies were darting all around us. They swooped like bats and when you watched them fly off, it looked as if they were marionettes on strings that someone was jerkily controlling from above. They're not graceful, that's for sure.

I mean, it's not like I've never seen a butterfly before, but seeing so many at once (and all flying right up and around you and taunting you) was a cool new perspective.

They gave us each these fans to combat the heat (so humid!) and also to identify the different butterflies. I kept laughing at Rodney carrying his around like he was on the safety patrol.

R kept saying, "That's a [whatever type of butterfly]," and getting irritated with me because I was calling them all birds.

This one creeped me out:

They ARE just like bats!

All the butterflies were regular size except for certain blue ones. They were much bigger than the others and did the most swooping and darting. I really wanted to take pictures of them but they were so fast! Or they would fly right up to me and around me playing ring around the rosie, making it impossible. I'd swing around and twist and shout and NEVER get them in the shot!

I tried chasing, I tried standing in one spot and letting them come to me, I tried flailing all over the conservatory. Basically I was 8 years old with the worthless butterfly net all over again.

I ended up with one shot of the ever elusive big blue butterfly:

I got your Blue Morpho's right there. That totally counts.

Update: Oh My Gosh. So, The Stone Rabbit blogged about going to the festival and my jaw hit the floor when I saw what happened and the pictures she got of the Morpho's. You won't even believe it. I don't want to talk about it.

His tradition he loves. Mine, well it's causing more difficulty for him each year.

Chapter One: NICE TO SEE YOU TOO...

"Well, this can't be good."

Sam struggled through the door into the dreary room, carting several open boxes. "Hello Mckay - long time no see. How's life?" she mocked, managing to prevent a landslide in her arms with a nifty side shuffle.

Mckay looked up, puzzled. "What, what?" he said. "Oh... yes," he realised that this was the first time he had seen her in several months. With them it was as if they never left one another's side. Mckay waved back. "Doing well, have a new cat - lives here with me, you?"

She lowered her gaze to the corner of the cramped office where a pair of liquid gold eyes peered back. Mckay's cat snarled, puffing its hair up into needle like shards before stalking off amongst the debris of Mckay's possessions. "Nice..." she muttered. “How important is that gadget you're working on?"

The room went silent as Mckay paused, "I - why do you ask?"

"If you don't get up here and clear some desk space for me, it'll be your legacy."

He was up in a flash. There were two desks in the Alien Artefact and Potential Developments Department (AAPD), both of which were hidden beneath several layers of Mckay's muck. He had been stuck down here ever since the Atlantis base was abandoned three months ago.

Mckay stepped back and nodded at the clear space. She made a dash from the door and deposited the contents of her arms just as it slipped from her hold. Now, more than ever, the room looked like a small disaster area.

"Much better," she cracked her elbows, reaching her arms up to the ceiling. She was dressed in a mustard overcoat and ash-gray jeans, prevented from trailing along the ground by combat boots.

"What did they get you for?"

Sam turned around and leant against the desk, facing Rodney. He looked exhausted and pale. "How do you know I didn't ask for this post?" She lasted about a minute before his gaze cut through her. "All right," she confessed. "It turns out that I'm more use to the Airforce down here than I am up there." She pointed nondescriptly to the sky.

"So, not an Astronaut then..."

"No..." she replied quietly. "Something about blonds in space."

Three days later, they were both asleep – deep rumbling snores filling the dank office. Mckay’s hand slipped off the desk and dangled awkwardly, the action dragging his head that bit further toward the edge. Sam subconsciously re-folded her arms, burring her head warmly in them. The hostile cat prowled along the edge of her desk, purposely knocking a delicate device off. The feline progressed and in an elegant jump, landed beside Mckay where it nuzzled his hair and curled up.

In another galaxy, the city of Atlantis drifted on a hazed-cloaked ocean. Smoke sat low on the water, several metres thick. Red light bounced off the atmospheric shell, obscuring the details of the city’s buildings. Everything was blurry, as if part of a dream.

A bleached skeleton lay draped over the west pier. Two clawed feet hopped along the exposed bones, surveying the ocean. The narrow throated bird fluffed its brown plumage and ducked into the body’s ribcage, protected from the salt laden wind.

It tucked its head under one of its folded wings, disturbed by a shrill sound escaping the city behind.

Chapter 2 : DOWNTOWN

The phone rang several times but remained ignored by the snoozing scientists. They had both been up past dawn, tinkering with a Tollan device found floating in space a year ago. Unfazed, their answering machine clicked on and Mckay’s crackled recording clicked over.

“If it’s not important, leave a message. If it’s vital to human survival or planetary safety – send a powerbar, flask of coffee, and – ”

“Mckay! This is my answering service too.”

“I was here first. You should get your own phone number.”

“You’ve reached Colonel Carter and Dr. Rodney Mckay, ignore him, and please leave a message.”

A harsh tone made the sleeping pair twitch.

“Ah, Sam? It’s Daniel. I’m downtown at that French coffee house you showed me last time I was here. Picked up something interesting on a recent trip. You should join me, I’ll be here all day... You sure you’re not there?”

Mckay’s cat unfurled its claws and began to kneed Mckay’s arm demandingly. The scientist felt the cold stabs of sharpened calcium dig in and draw blood.

“Ge-off,” he mumbled, unhooking the cat’s claws. The cat persisted, resuming its action with renewed determination. Mckay growled and with all his strength, lifted his from the desk. He was greeted by a world of white. It took him several moments to realise that a sheet of paper was stuck to his forehead, obscuring his view.

Conscious, he lowered his eyes and glared at the moon-eyed cat. “Might I remind you, that you’re not registered,” he hissed at it.

“Why are you even here?” said Sam, several hours later as they made their way down the busy street. It was the beginning of Autumn. There was a cruel chill tickling the turning leaves, reminding the street side trees that snow was on its way. Sam pulled her coat closed and latched it up across her chest.

Rodney trailed a step behind, glove covered hands tucked into his dark green trench coat. “I need to get out,” he explained, wishing he’d opted for a beanie.

“You’re such an arse, Mckay.” Sam prodded him sharply, almost overbalancing him. “Your sister wanted to come and see you... I don’t know why you can’t be happy that another life form elects to be in your company.”

“Apparently you do.”

“I’m paid, there’s a difference.”

“Rubbish. You love me.”

Daniel was located, nose first in a coffee mug. Catching sight of Sam stride past the glass store-front windows, he quickly set his smug down and dove into the rugged satchel beside his high-backed chair. From its depths he withdrew a field notebook and flicked to the appropriate page.

It was safe to talk in the corner he had picked out, though he was surprised to find Dr. Mckay in tow.

“Couldn’t shake him,” explained Sam, taking a seat.

Mckay frowned, “Oh how nice...”

It was tragic how they seemed to form a pair despite the time they spent loathing one another.

“No, no...” said Daniel, readjusting his glasses. “I was hoping you’d bring him along."

“Name’s Mckay... Dr. Rodney Mckay.”

No one paid him the slightest bit of attention.

Daniel turned the diary around so that they could read the line of text his index finger ran along. Rodney frowned, ripping the book from Daniel’s grasp through Sam’s protests. He held it up to the light filtering through the glass. The string of numbers, carefully transposed by Daniel’s hand, made Rodney want to climb the tallest monument and leap off it into the freezing air.

“The – meaning – of – life...” he muttered, word by word.

“Give it here,” Sam easily snatched it from him and then held off his groping mitts with her spare hand. “It better not be 42.”

“It’s not,” he assured her. “They’re natural constants written next to a whole set of numbers I have never seen before...”

“I recognise this one,” Sam pointed to an eight digit string. Mckay nodded but secretly wondered what it meant. “Where did you get these?” asked Sam, not yet relinquishing the book.

“Hacked into a temple wall on P8X 595. The SGC unofficially wants you to take a look.”

Sam narrowed her eyes, “What’s going on, Daniel?”

“The new government thinks it’s a waste of time, but Jack wants to be sure. He thinks it could be the remnants of a new race of beings that are intelligent and, he hopes, sympathetic to our cause. We need all the help we can get now Atlantis is lost.”

“And how do you propose we investigate below radar? I mean, there’s only one gate...” Mckay held up a single finger and waved it about.

I just came across that sentence when extracting information for my EAP presentation. My issue is regarding animal testing. Do u have any hint what is it about the Rodney? Actually Rodney is a dog which had been used for vet laboratory practical. I felt like my heart had been struck. Poor Rodney...I really pity him. Since my issue on animal testing in which I'm in favor of it, I felt like I'm taking the wrong side. I did not know about the cruelty happen to those animals until i read this real story. OMG, I couldn't imagine how cruel human toward animals. I had never thought that those people will do like that. Yeah I know human have right toward animals since we have mind to operate everything in our daily life. But I think this is just over the border line. It's like torturing the animals that can't speak what they feel. I've done a mistake, I shouldn't choose to allow animal testing for the advancement of research field. Supposedly I should against it.  No wonder UK ban this action. Here is the attachment of the file. Please kindly read it.

The eight week program is open for 5-16 year olds at a one-off cost of $$$.

Collaborating with the Estuary Arts Centre will encourage FILM LOVE in the community --

• We design classes to meet the demands of a highly mediated generation -- eager to express themselves in their own short movie.
• I'm teaching on an actual film set with FUN activities. I try to refrain from exploiting their labour. But no promises there.
• Students learn basic techniques in filming and editing. And will have the opportunity to use a Canon HV20 High Definition Camera and iMovie software.
• Each week classes focus on basic camera functions, framing close ups, editing short clips, moving the camera, adding music and special effects.
• Younger students are welcome to bring funny costumes and props to class. And can interact with their favorite toys on camera like show and tell.
• Older students are welcome to experiment with advanced techniques. And will make an art video about the modern world around them.
• At the end of the course, students receive a DVD showcasing their work and can hold screenings at home for family or show off to friends at school!

I am really really tired. Like bloodshot eyes, can't stay awake at work tired. I have got to get over this not getting in bed til one or later thing that I've been doing.

I had a weird dream this morning, since ya know, I didn't get in bed til 12-ish or one-ish. I can't remember. It was an odd mix of Stargate and M. Night Shyamalan's new movie. I say this because Teyla and Rodney were in the woods and there were sentient technologically advanced trees ...and they were ominous in nature. (???) I don't know where I come up with this crap either.

I know we got the air conditioner fixed at work and it was exciting and all but I'm wearing a three quarter sleeve shirt in August and it's cold in here. Not a happy camper.

I work in an office as a secretary. And I completely understand how annoying it can be when you call and leave a message and no one calls you back. But something people fail to remember is that the secretary is just the messenger. The person you should be yelling at for not calling you back is not here. I just had a woman flat out tell me that she was going to repeatedly call me back until she got a response from one of our techs. I was thisclose to telling her "You go right ahead and do that, ma'am. And I'll just keep telling you that they'll call back when they get in. It'll be fun." I really think these people think that I just take their calls, throw the messages away, and laugh maniacally at their expense. Which when I get calls like that one, I seriously consider doing.

I've officially become too proud to give Jane simply the curtain. Okay, maybe I should explain that a little more. I don't remember if I blogged about it before and I honestly am too lazy to look it up right now so I'll just start from somewhere in the general vicinity of the beginning. Jane's getting married. So that involves two showers. Her personal shower and her public shower. I got her a $40 Victoria's Secret card for her personal shower and with two other weddings and four other gifts to buy on top of hers this month, I was not really wanting to spend alot more money on Jane for a public shower gift. I looked on her registry and one of the only things available on their for twenty bucks or less that wasn't a wooden spoon or something was a really pretty curtain. But no matter how pretty it is, it's still a curtain. So I'm looking to buy her a pretty picture frame to go with her curtain. I found this one on the right I like online but it's small. Like 2 1/2 by 3 1/4 small. So we'll see.

I hate when people ask me to remember things. Seriously, I think I have some kind of early onset alzhiemers. And when people ask me to remember something specifically, the signal gets lost in transit. My brain thinks 'ooh, pressure' and I draw a complete blank. I would really like to see what my face looks like when this happens because my vision kind of blurs out as I'm mentally trying to picture whatever I'm supposed to be remembering. I hope I don't look constipated or something. That would be awkward. It's probably a combination of that with a 'deer in the headlights' look. And another thing is I don't trust my own opinion at all. For example, an insurance guy just came in the office asking about a wreck that happened last week. (laughs - he so doesn't know what he's gotten himself into. Last week! ha) He asks if I remember seeing blinking lights or heard a siren. Evidently, a lady got hit by a fire truck. I never actually got up to investigate as wrecks in front of our office are kinda common. I really should be more worried about that. I do remember hearing sirens and a fire truck driving in front of our office but that couldn't have been the same one because the wreck was on the left corner of the building. Unless of course the fire truck just kept going which I guess he would have a good excuse to do a hit and run. Somebody's house was on fire. Huh. I didn't think about that til right now. Anyway, my memory vagues after the fire truck passing though when Joseph's curiosity was peaked and he watched from the lobby window I glanced out my window and saw a cop car. Were the lights blinking or not? Was this even something the insurance guy was asking about? Probably not. I never even saw the car that was hit because we have a monstrocity of a bush that blocks my view of that section of the street. But, what was I talking about? Memory, but I guess I was done with the topic anyway.

So, funny birthing story to relate. An old friend of mine just had her baby a few days ago. Shawna is not known for handling pain ...at all. Really. At. All. Two weeks ago she started getting contractions so she went to the hospital but they sent her home because she was only dialated to one. Then over the course of the next two weeks she went in three more times only to be sent back home dialated at three. The last time was one o'clock in the morning. Trying to go back to sleep, Shawna kept feeling like she had to pee really bad but anytime she would try nothing would happen. Finally about six she was like, 'I have to be dialated more' so they went back to the hospital. They got there at 6:50 and Shawna couldn't even sit down. She said she just felt so swollen and then all of the sudden it hit her and she said, 'I need to push.' The nurses were all like just wait, let us get you on a table. Do not push. We need to see how dialated you are. Shawna's husband, Anthony, was still signing them in when they got her on a table and the nurse yelled, 'Get a doctor in here NOW. She's fully dialated.' So Anthony starts freaking out, 'I have to get back there I'm gonna miss it' so on and so forth. Anthony's mom was gonna be in the room for the birth and she went into the bathroom for a second and by the time she came back to the room Shawna had given birth. Evidently she was a good pusher. It sounds like something straight out of a movie. She says, 'I would have rather been in labor for 36 hours and had an epidural than do it the way I did.' lol. WARNING: Next comment not for the faint of stomach. Because she dialated SO fast, she didn't have time to stretch all that much and she tore BADLY inside and out. Cringe. Ouch.

Why is it that things start so cute and then they get progressively uglier? Well, for most people anyway. Case in point. Maybe it's true what I've heard before; babies are so cute so that we'll willingly put up with the screaming, pooping, and sleepless nights. If they looked like monster fish from the bottom of the ocean (it's pitch black down there for a reason), we might have ceased to exist as a species long ago.

Can you freaking even imagine how insanely awesome that would be?!?!

It's a good thing that it's a rule that you have to love your parents. Even if you hate your parents you love them. Because if you didn't, there would be nothing to stop you from killing them. Case in point, my friend, Lanae, is pregnant. BIG pregnant. And she's been BIG pregnant since about month four. She still has a month to go. Everyone and I mean everyone loves to tell her every single time they see her that she is HUGE and ask, 'Has that baby not come out yet?'. I want to tell her to say, "No, she has. I'm wearing a false belly to keep her incognito." Of course all the 'OMG you are beyond ready to pop statements' are just wonderful for her self esteem. To make matters worse, there was a group of people at my parent's house tonight, Lanae's mother included. Evidently merely being related to a pregnant person means that all conversation with you has to be about said pregnancy because everyone spoke to Ann about Lanae's pregnancy. This is one of the things that Ann had to say: "She's ruined. Her stomach is just covered in stretch marks. From her boobs all the way down, just completely covered in stretch marks." Mind you this was said in a room with about 10 people attentively listening to her. And not just a gaggle of gossiping old ladies either. People, guys my age. Ann goes on to say that she never had stretch marks when she was pregnant which caused me to make a huffing noise because I've never been pregnant, I don't have curves, and I have stretch marks so I was a little indignant. Big mistake. My mother seems to take this as her queue to tell the whole room that "Juliet has stretch marks and she's never even been pregnant." Thanks, Mom. Really. Though I think they kinda figured out the never had a baby part. But just in case they were curious about my bodily faults, I'm so glad you cleared that up for them. Like I said, the love is to prevent murder. And geez, it wasn't even just that tonight with my mom. Anytime I tried to say ANYTHING in a conversation, the woman would act as if I wasn't even speaking and just talk right over me. I eventually resorted to a very teenage reaction that I haven't done in ages. I rolled my eyes. This was a preventative measure. I believe that if I had not released my emotion even in that small way I was going to lose it in a verbal sense and that just would not have ended well.

And as my father proceeded to tell me as everyone was leaving their house tonight, "Your eyes are bloodshot, Jules." Thanks, Dad. I know. It's called the living dead. A new look I'm apparently going for. It's really simple to do too. Just don't sleep more than four hours a night. And that's a good night. So yeah, maybe hopefully I can convince myself to go crawl into my bed right now. Goodnight.

Him: Isn't that a song?

The man known as the "Dean of Baseball" passed away over the weekend. Jerome Holtzman was one of the true greats throughout the years. He wrote for both major Chicago dailies and is regarded as the game's first true historian. Holtzman is also the man who created the save category, so he's in effect responsible for making stars out of short relievers, who were mostly afterthoughts prior to the introduction of that statistic.

The save remains one of the game's most perplexing oddities. The rules for what constitutes a save vary depending on the situation, and the role has changed over the years. Who could have thought that some of the least frequently utilized players in terms of innings would become some of the game's biggest stars? And the fact is that if your team doesn't have a strong closer, they probably aren't going to be contending for any titles anytime soon.

Right now, there are several closer roles that are up in the air, which means trying times for some big league managers and some exciting opportunities for fantasy baseball players. Here's a quick rundown of the teams where the ninth inning role is up in the air, including a list of pitchers who could suddenly see a spike in their roto-value.

The Rangers continue to send C.J. Wilson out for ninth inning adventures, but it's looking more likely that they may finally make a move to a more stable source of saves. Eddie Guardado has been the far more reliable reliever, and with the Rangers pushing hard for a winning season, I think there's going to be a change taking place very soon.

Billy Wagner is having more forearm issues and the Mets could be forced to shut him down. Duaner Sanchez flopped miserably in a similar scenario a couple weeks back, and there are questions about his health right now. The Mets just recalled Eddie Kunz and I have a feeling he's going to get a real shot at closing if Wagner has to miss any substantial time.

Kerry Wood is about to return from his troubling blister problem, but the Cubs might stay with Carlos Marmol for a little while longer. Marmol is hot again, and there's no guarantee the issue won't return as far as the oft-injured Wood is concerned.

Brandon Lyon has slumped over the last few weeks and the Diamondbacks made a deal to bring Jon Rauch down to the desert. Lyon has done well enough to warrant keeping the job for now, but with every game crucial in the divisional title chase, I can't imagine his leash is a long one. Rauch did a nice job closing for the Nationals this season, so there may not be much hesitation to move him into the same role in Arizona should Lyon's struggles continue.

Huston Street, who I've said for three years is overrated, is now apparently out as Oakland's closer. He might regain the role at some point, but I have a feeling he's going to get waived and traded. In fact, I'm kind of surprised he didn't move prior to the July 31 deadline as the A's were dealing their other high-paid arms. In any case, amazing rookie Brad Ziegler figures to be the main closer for the time being, and if he continues his phenomenal pitching, it should become a permanent gig.

The Indians have basically announced to the world they're intent on finding a legit closer in the off-season. I'm not so sure they don't have their guy already. Rafael Perez had an early-season hangover from last year's playoff disaster, but he's gotten himself right and he's pitching really well the last several weeks. Perez is a superior option to Masa Kobayashi and I feel he'll emerge as the main closer for the Tribe over the season's last several weeks.

Finally, there's the hapless bullpen of the Detroit Tigers. It's almost comical how awful they've been at finishing games. The latest tomato can is Fernando Rodney, and the fact is he's terrible. Who should get the closing gig? In my mind, give the ball to the pitcher who's done the best work over the course of the season, and that's lefty Bobby Seay. Take a look at the numbers, it's not close. Joel Zumaya is the answer down the road, but he's been unable to stay healthy this season. I have no clue as to whether or not Jim Leyland will give Seay a shot, but he ought to. Considering the alternatives, why not?

The goal is to downsize so we've been looking at townhouses but I came across this place and it is so "us." It would be a downsize as it's less square footage and considerably less cost than our current house, but it's no townhome. Uh oh! I keep reminding Rodney about all that yardwork. We'll see what happens.
