Today Santa Claus released a statement from the North Pole:

"This weekend is a special weekend for all American's as they celebrate the end of summer with their Labor Day festivities. We join them in this celebration and take this time to congratulate them all on being nice so far. We would like to also warn all Americans that we are still checking our list twice as we officially enter into the election season. We would also like to announce that due to increases in energy costs we will no longer be issuing lumps of coals to naughty boys and girls. Instead they will be receiving a bag of biodegradable non-toxic packing peanuts. These packing peanuts conform with all international standards for toxins and are completely environmentally safe."

Just thought you might want to know.

About.com writes:
“Christmas in Germany - Kris Kringle and Saint Nicholas :Not to confuse matt

About.com writes:

"Christmas in Germany - Kris Kringle and Saint Nicholas :Not to confuse matters, but Germany has both Saint Nicholas and Kris Kringle (derived from Christkindl). German Santas are not necessarily the fat and jolly guys we see at Christmas in other countries. In fact, they look downright malnourished much of the time.

Saint Nicholas has a day of his owns and fills the kiddies' shoes with goodies on Dec. 6. After that, Kris Kringle takes over and delivers presents Christmas Eve. It's confusing because, I swear, they could be twins!"

All this is not entirely true. Here are the facts that ARE correct:

(Wikipedia)

Kris Kringle may refer to:

an American (mis-)pronunciation of Christkindl or Christ kindel, the German Christmas gift-bringer

another name for Santa Claus, by assimilation in America of the separate Dutch tradition

another name for Secret Santa, a gift exchange deriving from the Christkindl tradition

the lead character in Miracle on 34th Street, who claims to be Santa Claus

Christkindl refers to:

Christkind

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(Redirected from Christkindl)

Christkind.

The Christkind (German "Christ Child"), pronounced /kristkint/, is the traditional Christmas giftbringer in regions of Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, parts of Hispanic America, in certain areas of southern Brazil. In Italy it is called Gesù Bambino (Italian for "Christ Child"). Promulgated by Martin Luther, explicitly to discourage the figure of St. Nicholas, it was adopted inCatholic areas during the 19th century, while it began to be gradually replaced by the Weihnachtsmann("Father Christmas", a secularized version of Saint Nicholas) in Protestant regions.

The Christkind is a sprite-like child, usually depicted with blond hair and angelic wings. Martin Luther intended it to be a reference to the incarnation of Jesus as an infant. It is presumed by some to be so, but seems to be rooted in the Alsatian-born myth of a child bringing gifts to the baby Jesus.[citation needed] Children never see the Christkind, as parents will always tell them that the Christkind just disappeared before they came.

Since the 1990s, the Christkind is facing increasing competition from the Weihnachtsmann in the American version of Santa Claus, caused by the ad industry which used Santa Claus as an advertising figure.

Christkindl or Christkindel are diminuitive versions of Christkind.

HERE IS WHAT I THINK -

I "observed" Nikolaustag -Santa claus day on December 6th and then the Christkindl came on December 24th on Christmas. Until I got more familiar with American culture it never occured to me that one could be connected to the other...

In the last few years I have been contemplating the fact that maybe because I grew up in a protestant surrounding Christkindl was more familiar with me - well, maybe I'll find out for sure one of these days why there is a Christkindl and a Santa...but quite frankly, a Christkindl gives me a warm fuzzy

After figuring out that the stated wallpaper size for the new LG Chocolate 3 didn't seem to be accurate (240x320), I finally came up with a size that seems to work really well. These are 250x308 and should work perfectly on the main inside screen.

Click images to view them full-size, then right-click and save them to your computer. You can then transfer them to your phone using a microSD card or BitPim.

Have you ever bought something from a late-night infomercial? What convinced you to make the purchas

Have you ever bought something from a late-night infomercial? What convinced you to make the purchase? Was it how easy they made using the product look or the smiling faces promising that you too would be a satisfied customer?

Today I attempted to use the Body by Jake and I was seriously disappointed. I have no idea how this guy scammed all these people with this piece of scrap metal. I do not believe for a second that the machine would make anyone look like the guy on the commercial. The unfortunate thing is how much of the promises of media and advertising leave us disappointed like the Body by Jake that was thrown out for trash.

Whether it's the lottery, hair club for men or anything pawned by Kevin Trudeau, life is full of empty promises. The Christian life has its share of disappointments sometimes, but God delivers on his promises. He doesn't promise you'll be famous or wealthy, but he does promise to take care of your needs.

Sometimes it's frustrating waiting on God because he doesn't deliver on our schedule. The hardest part is when you feel he's failed you and things look bleak. But it's at those times that we have to cry out to him, remind him of his promises, trust and believe that he will take care of us. God is not Santa Claus. He's better than Santa because he doesn't give us what we want; he gives us what we need. God knows us better than ourselves and he promises to never leave us or forsake us and he is all we need. So the next time somebody tries to tell you that their product will satisfy your every need remember that God is the only one who can do that.

Slice of Life Sunday is a meme dedicated to preserving the accounts of events cut out of the lives of average people just like you and me from all over the world. And like having ice cream with your pie, there is more to this meme than meets the eye - it's a meme a` la mode. I hope you will join me and share a Slice of your Life.

Sometimes doing the most mundane things triggers a memory. This slice of life is the result of such.

Why is it that the simplest of chores are the most irritating? You know the kind, the ones you keep putting off until there is no more putting them off. I do not know why, but cleaning out my purse is one of those chores. I allow receipts, stubs, and pocket change to build up to a point where my purse strap leaves a mark on my shoulder and I lose fifteen pounds by just not carrying a purse. Then a day finally arrives when the chore absolutely has to be done. Today was one of those days. I am always amazed to see what is in my purse and how long it has been there. I was surprised to learn I had $32.56 in change, although my all time record was $40.04. I also found receipts for Christmas present purchases I made for my grandchildren. I quick viewing of them made me glad I had $30 left over! As I reminisced about last Christmas and how much joy it brings me to watch the kids open their gifts, I thought back to a Christmas in my youth. The Christmas when I learned there was definitely a Santa Claus.

I was eight years old and in the third grade. Several of my classmates took it upon themselves to educate the naïve ones of us that there was no Santa Claus. I remember getting so angry at one boy in particular, Roger Smail, on the last day of school before Christmas break. Since we lived in a very small town, there was only one class for each grade, thus everyone of the same age was in the same classroom every year. I had a schoolgirl crush on Roger because he had always been very nice to me. He would come to my desk and compliment how well I colored within the lines of whatever picture we were given. His opinion meant a lot to me, so when he started talking about Santa Claus being made up and it was our parents who bought the Christmas presents, I was at first confused. Since “he” said it, it must be true. But like most children who first hear about Santa not being real, I was not ready to let go of my beliefs. How could I not believe in Santa? He brought me a nice doll every year and a new outfit of clothes. Sometimes we would get more presents, but I could always count on a doll and a dress, usually ones that I picked out in the Sears & Roebuck catalog. So after careful consideration, I decided Roger was wrong and told him so. He and the other boys laughed at me. I didn’t mind their laughing but when Roger said, “You have to be stupid to believe in Santa Claus,” I got mad. I was not stupid and I wasn’t going to let a dumb boy say I was. I told him to shut up, but he started chanting, “Stupid girls believe in Santa Claus.” He was in the middle of saying it for the fourth time when I found my hand slapping his face. I mean I really slapped him. His face had a red outline of my handprint and we were both so shocked we couldn’t move. All the other kids were shocked and everyone stood still. It seemed like forever before Mrs. Norris came over to see what was going on. After hearing both sides of our tale, she sent both Roger and I to stand in a corner as punishment. After school that day, before I got on the bus, I walked over to Roger and apologized for slapping him. I also said “there is to a Santa.” He gave me a sheepish grin and said, “I don’t know if there is a Santa Claus or not, but I do know you sure can hit for a girl.”

I told my mom what had happened in school when I got home. I really had no choice since my older sister was in the same class (she failed kindergarten and we ended up going through school in the same grade) and she witnessed the entire event. I ended my accounting of the event with, “There is too a Santa, isn’t there mommy.” I figured I would get a good whipping since I got in trouble at school and was surprised when I didn’t. Mom just said I was not to hit kids and left the room with tears in her eyes. My older sister, with her hands on her hip, said, “You sure are a stupid kid, just like Roger said. No, there is not a Santa Claus. Mom and dad buys our presents and puts them under the tree after we go to bed. But this year there ain’t gonna be any presents because dad got laid off from his job and they don’t have any money to be spending on Christmas presents. And now you have just made mom feel even worse about it. You really are stupid!” And, with that said, she stomped off. I sat alone in the living room looking at the Christmas tree in the corner. Now, I was confused. Was there or wasn’t there a Santa? After thinking about it for awhile, I decided I sure hoped there was one since we didn’t have any money.

The next day was Christmas Eve Day. I always liked Christmas Eve because we would go to grandma’s house for a big supper and then open her gifts. When we were little, grandma would make all three of us girls a ragdoll for Christmas. We also got a doll from Santa, so we would have “sister dolls” or “best friend dolls” to play with. Once we started going to school, grandma made us a knitted scarf and mittens to match instead of a ragdoll. I was surprised, and somewhat disappointed, to open my gift and find a ragdoll this year. My mittens from last year had holes in the fingertips and I really wanted a new pair. I hugged and thanked grandma anyways and secretly hoped Santa would bring me a new pair of mittens. After we opened our presents, Toupey, my older sister, told grandma I had gotten into trouble at school and had to stand in a corner for hitting a boy. Of course that led to a whole discussion about Santa Claus. I still maintained my belief in Santa but noticed mom and dad looked very sad.

Grandma listened to what I had said and answered my question, “There is a Santa Claus isn’t there grandma?”, with, “Yes, Cricket, there is a Santa Claus. But Santa isn’t a man in a red suit that comes down chimneys with a sack full of toys. That part about Santa is made up, like Little Red Riding Hood or the Three Little Pigs. Santa Claus is the spirit of giving that lives in everyone’s heart. Sometimes that spirit of giving can only give us presents that we need, not just what we want. It is because Santa lives in my heart that I made you this ragdoll. Your mom and dad have the spirit of Santa in their heart too. But sometimes they don’t have the money to buy all of you kids the presents their heart wants them to give you. So, whatever Santa leaves for you under the tree tonight, just know that it comes from the heart. And you shouldn’t be hitting other kids because they tease you. Did hitting that boy make him believe what you believed?” I shook my head no and grandma finished with, “No, of course it didn’t. Hitting someone is never the answer to a problem. Sometimes we just disagree with what other people believe. And it is OK to disagree. When we disagree with someone, we need to use the spirit of understanding that also lives in our heart. Instead of hitting someone when we disagree with them, we need to understand they have a right to believe what they want to believe and we have the right to believe what we want to believe.”

That night, as I tried to fall asleep thinking about everything grandma had said, I became even more confused. If grandma’s spirit of giving made her want to give me what I needed, then why did she make me a ragdoll instead of mittens? I really needed mittens. Mine had holes in them, which I had pointed out at Thanksgiving. Not only did my mittens not keep my fingers warm, it was embarrassing for other kids at school to see they had holes in them. I went to sleep thinking my spirit of understanding did not understand.

The next morning my younger sister woke everyone up with, “It’s Christmas! Santa Claus came!” We all ran down the stairs and stood in awe as we looked at all the presents under the Christmas tree. The four of us looked at one another and then attacked the presents, dividing up the gifts by the name written on the wrapped box. We each had a new coat and boots. Each of us girls had two new dresses with socks that matched and a new doll. There was one big box that had all three of our names on it. Once opened, we found a table and four chairs with a set of dishes. My younger brother also had a big box that contained a John Deere tractor. After we opened the gifts that were sitting in front of the tree, my older sister found four presents lying under the tree. There was one for each of us. We quickly opened them and found we each had a set of scarves and mittens like grandma had made the year before. Mom and dad had not said too much during all the mayhem of opening gifts. They kept looking at each other and said, “No, I didn’t” and “I don’t know what’s going on.”

It was many, many years later that I learned my Aunt Idie and Uncle Raymond had the spirit of Santa in their hearts too.

Remembering something I had read in a book somewhere about some weird American laws, I decided to research some more about wacky things that are and are not allowed to happen in certain areas of the USA. I found a webpage dedicated to strange laws in America. Some of them follow.

In Alabama, putting salt on a railway track is punishable by death.

In Long Beach, California, it is illegal to curse on a mini golf course.

In New Britain, Connecticut, the speed limit for fire engines is 25 mph, even when going to a fire.

In Florida, unmarried women who parachute on Sundays can be jailed.

In Portland, Maine, it is illegal for men to tickle women under the chin with feather dusters.

And finally, in Minnesota, women may face up to 30 days in jail if they impersonate Santa Claus.

There are many more of these crazy laws to read about - just click here!

Dear Santa,

I have about ten minutes to write this before heading Fergus off at the pad and getting him outside for yet another potty break lesson, grabbing some lunch, maybe brushing my teeth, and running off (one minute late) to work.

I'm writing to you today because my wish list contains long term and sometimes expensive things. I thought you might appreciate a heads-up.

1. I'd like a backyard with a little house on it.

2. I'd like an unfinished basement in the little house.

3. I'd like some sturdy shelving in the unfinished basement.

4. I'd like a few empty glass jars on the shelving.

5. I'd like a lot of full glass jars beside the few empty ones.

6. I'd like a canner beside all the glass jars.

7. I'd like an old-fashioned, ice-and-salt-cooled, handcrank-powered, ice cream maker beside the canner.

8. I'd like an old-fashioned, handcrank-powered, meat grinder upstairs.

9. I'd like homemade sausages and homemade "Leftover Surprise" dog food in the freezer in the fridge in the corner near the meat grinder in the little kitchen upstairs from the sturdy shelving holding the empty and full jars beside the canner beside the ice cream maker in the unfinished basement in the little house in the backyard.

10. And maybe a little freezer in the basement, too.

Your little friend,

Lavenderbay.

In the meantime, I'd like you to join me in pondering this photo I took on August 2 in Seattle, Washington.

Why were these men dressed like Santa in August?

Does Santa really ride a bike during the summer?

Which one do you think is the "good" Santa, and which one do you think is the evil-twin "bad" Santa?

I am Santa Claus. There are some children here and there and I give them some gifts. Suddenly, there are a couple of wolves and some sort of evil woman on a chariot ( pretty similar to the Narnia universe ) and they start fighting with me. Two evil dwarves start chasing me and I enter a tube with plenty of doors. Every time I cross a door, I close it and I lock it and the dwarves finally give up. When I leave the tube, I am in a park near my house, but there's an army of evil people and they're going to fight some war against the good people ( at least that's what I think ). The evil queen comes to me and I give up, since there are too many to fight.

One of the craziest dreams ever.

It might be August, but the Christmas spirit is just four months away. So what's all wrapped up under the Christmas tree this year...how about two hilarious comedies.

Unwrap the truth about Santa Claus as William Shatner narrates Stalking Santa. Millions of people may believe in Santa Claus and thousands claim to have seen him, but only one man is foolish enough to attempt to prove his existence. In a offbeat comedy, self-proclaimed "Santologist" Dr. Llyod Darrow will stop at nothing to take on government conspiracy, corporate suppression, and phony mall Santas - all in pursuit of the world's oldest yuletide enigma. Trailer

And then prepare yourself for the very worst...when Christmas is BANNED. The competition heats up at the annual Greenlawn Christmas decorating contest when Norbert Bridges moves to town and stirs up trouble with the reigning champion - Donnie Manning. But when things get out of control and the town outlaws Christmas, it's up to the feuding neighbors to save the holiday. The Town That Banned Christmas...it's a bag filled with family fun. Trailer

Every kid believes in magic, in fairy tales, in bedtime stories, and even in Santa Claus. There are animated television series and programs showing the wonderland, the never land, Disney land, and other places which feed the fantasies of children. However, the story of Santa Claus and his reindeers is different in the sense that everything seems to be real even though grown ups know the truth. In malls, we can find Santa Claus greeting everyone especially the children and giving them candies. On the streets, Santa is dancing together with his reindeers and sometimes with Mrs. Claus. During Christmas season, our parents tell us to make a wish and we hang a sock on the door. The next day we will find chocolates, candies and coins inside the sock. A beautifully wrapped Christmas present is under the Christmas tree and there are attached letters from Santa. How amazing for him to travel all the way from North Pole with his reindeers just to give gifts and letters to children. That is why children are always excited when December comes and Christmas season is on the air.

Yet kids nowadays are smarter than we think. It is not easy to fool them with those old tactics especially when they will recognize the handwriting. Fathers who disguise as Santa Claus can still be recognized even how they change their faces and voices. As for that, there are personalized Santa letters available online with the name of the kid, who will receive, on it. It appears so real that kids will never suspect about it and it will be mailed from the North Pole. Fantastic!

The feeling of a kid who receives that present can not be explained in simple words. All those nights they were dreaming of Santa Claus and they wanted to experience that magic. A simple Santa letter can bring a moment of joy and happiness that kids will never forget.

“But the aim of chinese whispers is to keep the message as close to the original as possible.

"But the aim of chinese whispers is to keep the message as close to the original as possible. It's normally pillocks who deliberately ruin it that creates the distortion." - meatman

Once upon a time, thousands of years ago there were no printing presses and the majority of the world was completely illiterate. For fun they would tell stories around a fire and if the story was good it would be handed down the generations.

You've all played this game at one time. It is called Chinese whispers or telephone. This is where we have a group of people and one has a secret message. Each successive participant secretly whispers to the next a phrase or sentence whispered to them by the preceding participant. Take a passage from the bible and see how distorted the message is after passing thru just 20 people. Now do this through 10 generations for fathers and sons. At the end have a monk transcribe the story in a dark room then translate the text through no less then 3 languages, (Hebrew, Latin, Greek and English). Pass that book down another 2000 years with revisions and translations and you will find why it is very difficult for a rational person to believe this is doctrine from the designer.

Archaeologists, scientists and religious studies have looked for the subject of this text and have been unable to discover much about the original authors. They have even less evidence about the main characters. So what does this make this book?

The answer, Fiction. That's right it's all completely made up. Just like any story by the Brothers Grimm. Rumpelstiltskin, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Hansel and Gretel are just as real as the Epistle John, Judas, Je$u$ and g*d.

What's that you say? You still think it must be true because the book calls itself true? Or does it? We've just interpreted it to be true for several reasons. First because our parents taught us it was true. The same way they told us of Santa Claus and The Tooth Fairy.

Secondly, because it is an ancient text. Just because something is ancient doesn't make it correct. Take witch burning, accupuncture and leeching as examples. Not to mention the inaccuracies of Chinese whispers.

Next, we tend to want to believe it for its moral value. Stories are good at teaching lessons of morality. I agree there are many parts of the text that can be use to teach morals. I also think there are many examples we should NOT use and we should show caution on our interpretation.

Lastly, we tend to want to believe the bible because we want answers. Answers to the deeper questions of life. There are many unknowns and because we are mortal we wish to know our lives have meaning. We want comfort in losing loved ones and lie to ourselves to make it better. Having a Utopia is a great way to recover from a loss.

Now before you call into question my morals and ethics let me assure you they are just fine. In fact I could point out that an argument of that would have no authority. Also note that if you believe the whispers then judgement is reserved for a higher power.

So go ahead. Next time you have a large group of people play Chinese whispers. Let it remind you to think of the possibilities for errors in these messages. Most of all let it open your mind to possibilities.

While on-air last night during for cable sports network DASN, national sports reporter Justin Gallagher used chichés he had heard hundreds of times before to describe sports fans in the Philadelphia area.

Lacking any knowledge of the history of Philadelphia sports or the area itself, Gallagher proceeded to use his knowledge of previous reports on the city to explain Eagles' quarterback Donovan McNabb's situation this season.

"Listen, these are the same people who booed Santa. I mean c'mon their former mayor threw snowballs at Santa Claus," Gallagher said during the show.

When told the story involving now Governor Ed Rendell occurred years after the alleged "Santa incident," Gallagher responded by saying, "Whatever, they've got the worst fans no one can compare."

Sports historian Albert Ralston, professor of kinesiology and history at Drexel University, said history has shown other cities have had worse incidents than snowball throwing.

"Right off the top of my head I can think of the infamous "Disco Demolition Night" in Chicago where they had to bring in riot police and dozens of people were arrested, or even "10 Cent Beer Night" in Cleveland where again there was a near riot and the Indians had to forfeit the game," Ralston said. "Yet you never hear the national media bring up those events. What was the worse thing that happened here, a guy got hit by snowballs?"

Justin Gallagher did not return calls for comment by press time.

Me and the elves have been working so hard to get ready for this Holiday Season. I just wanted to let you all know that I have assigned a special task force to handle all the incoming letters I get from all the boys and girl. They have created a website www.santaletterz.com where parents can go to help us out. Until next post, be good!
