I am all excited about the upcoming Santa Live Now event on November 11th! I thought I would go ahead and get set up early. Not having used Stickam myself before, I thought it might be helpful if I document my steps for others who are not familar with podcasting. I'll continue to add things as I learn more. If anyone has any additions, feel free to add them.

It is really quick and easy to get set up on Stickam.

After I signed up and confirmed my email, I signed in and was taken to my profile page. From this page, you can add your profile pic and add any other profile info you want. You can then go Santa Live Nows page, and on the right, under Santas picture, click on Add As Friend. As soon as Santa accepts you as his friend, you can easily access his page from your profile page.

Below are some basic FAQ's from the Stickam site.

Q 1. What is Stickam?
A Stickam is a free service that allows you to stream live video over the internet. There is nothing to download and Stickam is 100% free.

Q 2. What are the system requirements to use Stickam?
A An internet connection and a browser with the most recent version of Macromedia Flash Player installed. DSL or T1 broadband is not required, but it is strongly recommended.

Calafell és una preciosa vila marinera de la Costa Daurada tarragonina a una seixantena de kms. de Barcelona, un xic més al sur de Sitges i de Vilanova. Hi podeu accedir per la N-340 o per l'autopista Pau Casals, pels túnels del Garraf o, també, per l'AP-7, sortida El Vendrell. La població principal, dominada pel barri antic on hi ha el castell de la Santa Creu, (foto) i l'esglèsia, està un km. terra endins, mentre que a la costa hi trobem els barris mariners, com ara Segur de Calafell. Al terme de Calafell, a més del castell i el barri vell, podeu veure també la magnífica ciutadella ibera completament reconstruida, i la casa museu Barral, situada al barri de mar, a tocar de l'aigua. Si hi aneu a l'estiu no us deixeu el banyador!. Podeu completar l'excursió amb una anada a Sant Salvador, vora Comarruga, a veure la casa i el museu Pau Casals, i amb una visita a Sitges, (Cau Ferrat) i també a Vilanova i la Geltrú (Museu del Ferrocarril i Museu Romàntic). No direu que no hi ha coses per fer feliç la canalla!. Per dormir i menjar trobareu molts i molts hotels i restaurants, sobretot arran de platja. Nosaltres, però, us recomanem un establiment just al poble antic, a tocar de l'ajuntament i l'esglèsia. Una casa fonda anomenada "Antiga". No us en penedireu.

Nosotros, no obstante, os recomendamos un establecimiento justo en el pueblo antiguo, a tocar del ayuntamiento y la iglesia. Una casa fonda denominada "Antigua". No os arrepentiréis.

Trata-se de uma das 140 mil imagens da Mãe, Rainha e Vencedora Três Vezes Admirável, mais conhecida como Mãe Peregrina, que diariamente vão de casa em casa no País. Elas atingem um total de 4,2 milhões de famílias católicas. Só na capital paulista são 6.700 capelinhas da santa e mais de 200 mil lares participantes.

O movimento das imagens itinerantes começou em 10 de setembro de 1950. A religiosa Teresinha Gobbo, do Instituto Secular das Irmãs de Maria de Schoenstatt, mandou fazer três capelinhas. Escolheu três católicos de Santa Maria, no Rio Grande do Sul, e deu uma imagem para cada um. Com a singular missão: fazer a santa visitar uma família por dia. 

Só o comerciante João Luiz Pozzobon, viúvo e pai de sete filhos, levou a incumbência a sério. Calcula-se que até a sua morte, em 1985, tenha percorrido 140 mil quilômetros com a imagem. A quem quisesse colaborar, ofertava réplicas da capela - isso fez o movimento crescer com o tempo e ganhar mais divulgadores.

Being fooled into something good for you, for the world, which you are happy to be persuaded of, is to be subject to magic.

Being fooled into something that is bad for you, that makes the world worse, and you are unhappy to be fooled is to be ticked. Doing that is trickery.

Technically speaking, this difference between magic and trickery is based on a spectrum of cases betweeen the two extreme, unambiguous ideals. So there is a huge grey middle ground which we can argue over to our hearts content.

Santa is a really good and simple example of the difference.

1. Parents tell their kids about Santa and dress up as him at Christmas as a way of giving them presents selflessly, to make Christmas a more magical time and get their kids to sleep on Christmas Eve. When they are older they let their kids in on the secret.

2. Parents use the threat of santa not coming to get their kids to behave, when they just crave attention. Santa is obviously them, and they expect thanks for the christmas presents from "santa". One christmas eve, santa doesn't come.

The first case is obviously more like magic. The second more like trickery. But imagine the first exactly the same but where Santa molests the kids. (Tragically, there are cults that work just like this.)

The importance of this distinction is that it is wrong to trick someone into believing something. But believing in magic is obviously good, because the person wants it.

There is nothing inherantly better or worse about a magical or non-magical world view. The things that make life good or bad are so much more immediate. There have been millions of amazing lives lived believing in the most bonkers stuff, and plenty or shit ones believing in nothing at all.

You can tell the households that don't get visits from Santa Claus. They lavish gifts on their spoiled rotten children and claim they are from 'Santa'.  OR they lavish gifts on their children that they really cannot afford and claim they are from Santa. The reality is Santa wouldn't lavish gifts on any one child. The true spirit of Santa Claus started back before the marketing of toys became such high stakes. [have you noticed that the new toys for Christmas are already hitting the television?] When the legend of Santa began, children didn't have a closet full of toys, they appreciated any toy they received. And does anyone remember this "he knows if you've been good or bad, so be good for goodness sake"? Santa Claus would not lavish gifts on children who are talking back to their parents, bullying other kids at school, not cleaning up their rooms or intentionally hurting animals or destroying other people's property. Santa Claus DOES hold children responsible for their actions but enabling parents do not and spoil the children who really need to be held accountable. The spirit of Santa Claus has been tarnished by well-intentioned parents. I don't believe they want to condone bad behavior but for a myriad of reasons they do. In order to regain the spirit of Christmas, you must stop tainting the purity of Santa Claus if it is a tradition you choose to embrace.

About the show: I have a cast that lives with me in Santa’s Village from around the world. We want to interact with the Child in all of us. I want to make the Internet a safe place for the Child in all of us. If the first time you experience the Internet is at 4 years old on your parents lap experiencing the spirit of giving with Santa for all the right reasons rather than @ 13 for all the wrong reasons our world is going to be a much safer place for many years to come.

Nos dois projetos, tive bastante dificuldades nos últimos dias: tudo dava errado!!! Então parei um pouco, comecei a refletir e orar mais... e o que me veio bem forte foi a passagem de Mateus 25, do servo fiel, onde o patrão recompensa: "já que foste fiel no pouco, eu te confiarei muito": Eu estava buscando demais essas coisas grandes, talvez até para o meu próprio ego, e deixando de lado o mais simples e completo mandamento de Deus: o amor!

Deus quer, mais do que grandes projetos, que amemos a todo instante! Qual foi o grande projeto de Santa Terezinha??? O amor! Na simplicidade de sua vida, ela amou tão intensamente que foi um grande exemplo para todos, se tornando a padroeira das missões sem nunca ter saído do convento!

My head made me silent by obligation, but I would only have to walk and interact with more movement and drama. How else would anyone interact with me? My head did well to attract attention on its own. So my drama was only half-needed.

Those mall Santas had it so easy; at least they could use words.  The Easter Bunny had to rely on their nonverbals and the natural draw of the head.
