Yick.

I only have really one observation that I suppose is worth pointing out.  It doesn't seem to matter in you're young, professional, crazy, old and feeble, black, white, green, you get the idea here... Everyone listens to extremely loud music  with their earbuds in.  Loud enough so the person next to them can make out the songs. 

I am probably more sensitive to this because I have hypersensitive hearing and pick up a lot of noises other people don't notices.  In theory I should be wearing earplugs.  Not the obvious kind they sell at concerts but the kind that are fairly unnoticeable assuming I wear my hair down.  I feel like an idiot wearing them so I suck it up.  But enough with that tangent.  I can hear people's music that is being played through earbuds.

That has to be REALLY loud, I seriously wonder if these people spend the entire day asking people to repeat themselves, while the black eyed peas ring in their ears.  Not to mention it must mess up how loudly they talk. 

I've learned a lot about the workings of the ear, and inner ear lately and I have to cringe when I hear music blaring out of someones earbuds.

A lot of talk here lately on the growing and marketing of Marijuana in this country. But because of all this other ___ no one is really noticing. Pot growing in the U.S.A. is “big time business.” If we could somehow legalize this, and tax the sale of it, we could bust the federal deficit in a period of under five years.

80% of pot crop in the United States in now grown on Federal land, it invades our National Parks. Thousands of marijuana plants were seized last month in the Dixie National Forest in Utah. We have a new blight on the land. Mexican drug cartels are stepping up marijuana cultivation in national parks and on other public land, endangering visitors and damaging the environment.

75%-80% of marijuana grown outdoors is on state or federal land. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) says there were more than 4.8 million marijuana-plant seizures at outdoor sites in 2006. Tighter border controls make it harder to smuggle marijuana into the USA, so more Mexican drug networks are growing crops here.

We are finding more marijuana gardens in the parks year after year. And to top it off, we're dealing with some bad characters. We are arresting people … who have criminal records in Mexico, and almost all of them are here illegally with false papers.

The number of marijuana plants confiscated on public land in California grew from 40% to 75% of total seizures between 2001-2007, says the state's Campaign Against Marijuana Planting task force. Hunting and cleaning up after pot growers diverts resources at a time when parks face chronic funding shortfalls. says Laine Hendricks of the non-profit National Parks Conservation Association.

Recent busts:

• A site with 16,742 marijuana plants was raided last month in North Cascades National Park in Washington state. It was operated by a Mexican organization. People living at the site downed trees, dammed creeks and left 1,000 pounds of trash.

• Thousands of marijuana plants were seized last month in Utah's Dixie National Forest. Ignacio Rodriguez was charged with drug and immigration offenses, says Michael Root, a DEA special agent. The problem is worst on the West Coast, but law-enforcement pressure on growers has pushed them out this way.

• Last month, officials burned thousands of marijuana plants seized in Cook County, Ill., forest preserves. Drug organizations use the Chicago area as a base for distributing marijuana across the Midwest, says DEA special agent Joanna Zoltay.

• In July and August, officials seized more than 340,000 plants, some from Sequoia National Forest and Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks. Mexican cartels are responsible for many sites in those parks. They leave behind car batteries and propane tanks and poach deer and birds.

Visitors to wilderness areas are at risk, marijuana plants have been found marijuana within a half-mile of public beaches and very short distances from campgrounds and highways.

Perhaps it is time to legalize this cash crop and do something about this nationwide problem.

We might be able to “kill two birds with one stone” as my Mama used to say. This immigration problem on our southern border could be alleviated and the problem of growers taking over our National Parks for the illegal practice of pot growing, this might disappear too.

What would happen if we just made Mexico part of California, wouldn’t we spend the same amount of money to help support them in their efforts to grow, as we spend trying to keep them out? Why do we constantly try to jail these people and pay for their medical bills?

Especially when they are not willing to become “American’s” in most cases.

Why don’t we just give them California and let them grow all the pot for the nation, and we will collect the revenues and taxes on it. California used to be part of Mexico at one time. It would not take much to annex it back to them, there are parts of Oakland, Stockton that I would gladly give to a foreign country.

Let’s face it. The war on drugs hasn’t done anything, we lost, it is over.

Roughly 75% of the two million incarcerated prisoners locked down in America, are for drug related offenses. The drug problem, like it or not, is OUR problem. It is big business, #1 cash crop in America, take a visit a modern day pot grower see for yourself. We are the society that is using this garbage and creating the market for it. If we did not use it, then they would not be coming north to grow it on our soil.

If they are going to come which is a pretty safe bet, then we should document them, and let them help out with the tax burden, social programs, and welfare issues. If they need a job, we will just send them to Mexi-Fornia and put them to work growing smoke.

Tax the crap out of it, and pay off our huge federal deficit. If they can put a federal tax stamp on a pack of Marlboro's they can do the same with a bag of grass.  Plus it is great for the economy.  We will sell more Twinkies and Dorito's, China Mart will sell Goldfish at three in the morning, and Denny's will fill all their empty booths after two AM.

Its a win-win deal, I am surprised those pecker-heads in Washington haven't thought of it by now.

After 4 hours worth of job training, I settle for taking the tube or bus home when I find I can't mooch a lift. It all starts with getting a bus, reaching my destination, having a little window shop before getting another bus to start on my journey home... Except this bus decides to stop at the bus stop for a bit.

The driver announced over the tannoy(?): "Everybody off the bus!" Before playing a pre-recording of "find your nearest exit" with the lady's soothing voice. While waiting to get off of the top deck, I notice a strange burning smell. Naturally I become curious so turn around to see smoke billowing out of the back of the bus. Naturally again my reaction of "Oh Shit!" and my urgenecy of trying to get off and bashing into the back of the person in front caused a little bit of embarrassment...

Coward!

After a (very) slow exit from the bus I go to check the back and see the driver open the flap concealing the engine and witness a huge gush of steam come racing out. There was also this white foamy type liquid leaking all over the ground (coolant apparently) but it didn't seem to be on fire... Just really really hot and non-functioning.

After this little bit of strangeness (and on losing 90p!) I decide I've had enough of the buses and start walking. I look up to see a passenger airline (plane) at an angle in the sky, about 30-45 degrees. So there I am, walking along a very busy road with blocked bus lane and horns honking left right and centre, and I'm staring up into the sky at a plane which seemed to have taken a wrong turning as it does a turn that looks a lot like it was going back on itself... Good directions...

This is all from suffereing a huuuuge headache and a fainting sensation.

I thought that was the weirdest of weird I'd be seeing today, and then I saw a cloud... a cloud that was completely vertical and not surrounded by any other. And it was a dark grey / black.

What the hell is going on?

I ended up going with the cheap, filling option of the hamburger and onion rings.

While I waited for my order, the two employees at the counter discussed their cigarette shortage. They both smoked, but neither wanted to purchase the new lights themselves, so they decided to create a pool for future cigarette purchases. They would take money from all the employees (presumably from only those who smoke) and they would then purchase a pack for everyone to share during office hours. For every cigarette one took, that person would add a dollar to the pot.

What has it come to when the guy who takes my hamburger orders can't even buy his own cigarettes? Forget the bailout of the banks, could the government please get these guys a few dollars to buy some lights!

Right before my food was done cooking, one of the employees walked outside to have one of the few smokes left in the pack (I couldn't tell if he threw in a dollar or not). Seconds later, a young patron - no older than 14 - came up to the counter to ask for a cig. The employee simply gave one to the minor then asked for a dollar. The kid cordially complied. Surprisingly, the hamburger hop didn't charge the youth more than a dollar for the smoke. He could have made a little extra for him and his compatriots. He's a better man than I.

The kid looked relieved once he had the Marlboro between his fingers. He took it outside and lit up - to ease his worries about the financial crisis, no doubt. Maybe I should have thrown in a dollar as well. But I don't smoke, although I wanted one last night. Does this mean the recession also encourages smoking? Probably. How shameful.

Then some other dude calming me down about the Cannabis-drink I found for sale in a gas-station. Thank you for that! :) ha ha ha! I am really not a fan of drugs. But I know there are a lot of opinions in this area. For instance, I am definitely against drugs, but I smoke... Baaaad.... I also have a glass of wine once in a while and drink loads of coffee... I could get into some very interesting discussion about this I suppose.

He was there because He likes to hang with people He loves..... The place was dark and smoky, the music was "secular" the language was worldly... and there He was... go figure... the creator of the Universe in a bar in Westport on a Friday night... funny He didn't seem offended by the smoke or the music, or even the language, or the overall "spirit of the place".... Since he lives in me I can pretty well tell when He's offended and He wasn't.

Friday evening made Him remember that first dinner at Matthew's house, more a party than a dinner for a King. Both then and now He was with people He loves... and boy did they want to get to know Him....

I think He wasn't offended because He already dealt with all those offenses 2000 years ago when He was crucified.... That day He died for them even when they didn't know Him... 'cause he knew then that in 2008, on a Friday night they'd be looking for a better life.. and He wanted to get all the offenses out of the way so a real loving relationship could start up whenever they were willing to get to know Him….. more to come.

I arrive at work bright and shiny, I log in, type out a few words... and get to work. But this week, someone else has been coming into the office within 20 minutes of me arriving.

This seems to distract me a little as I like peace and quiet as I write. I am in a little glass bowl, which normally at that time, has only my energy in and around it... and when someone else comes in, it kinda messes with my mojo.

As I sit and write now, there is still someone in the office, behind me, and she can probably read everything I'm writing, but her presence isn't as distracting. But I just feel obliged to get something out.

Strange isn't it?  That after only 3 weeks (tomorrow) I feel like I owe, not just you, but me, the time and space to put fingers to keyboard and type away about something I'm feeling or thinking - even if its "just for today".

I'm a reformed smoker. Sometimes I still smoke, but mostly I don't. The writing, when I first really started, made me CRAVE like I haven't in a very long time. So I smoked... and smoked... and then I stopped. Now, perhaps I'm not writing things as deeply (if that makes sense), or perhaps I'm just getting more and more used to the feeling of "exposure" that writing tends to bring to me. And this means that I don't crave so much.

Either way. I am glad to be here. I have had nothing but welcome and good things. The sense of not just friendship, but kinship is wonderful. For example, my blog practically forced me to see Sanity... or should I say rather that it gave me a really really good excuse to see her after so many years. I needed someone to explain how it all works?

I'm the type of person that I like to be shown, or I learn myself. I'm not so good with instructions. So I persuaded her into seeing me and, well, I for one I'm very glad that we got to meet up. And laugh... and laugh and laugh...

So... what I guess I'm trying to say is that not all habits are bad. Her blog habit brought us closer and helped me to form my own blog. My own place where I can talk about what I feel is important and hopefully, as the days go on, and this blog here gets bigger, it will be what you feel is important to. And what you write has also become important to me. I like to read Amber, AA, My name is anonymous, Girl without shoes, Vanessa etc (all on my blogroll) and of course SanityFound.

I don't believe that habits all are bad. Here are, for example, a few habits that I have, which I think are good ones (or, at least, are not bad):

  1. I kiss my partner every time I say goodbye or hello
  2. I hug my friends when I say goodbye or hello
  3. Every time I get home I pick up my munchkins (kitties) and give them some love
  4. I lock my car door whenever I go anywhere in my car
  5. I drink a lot of water
  6. I constantly want to learn new things
  7. I read. Alot. Mostly fiction.
  8. I (mostly) don't smoke... as much as smoking is a habit... not smoking is also.
  9. I answer my phone (mostly) when it rings
  10. I often wish those I care about "safe" - wherever they are I think about them and send them "Safe" wishes (please keep him/her safe today/tonight
  11. I am polite (sometimes to much so)
  12. I put the alarm on on my home whenever I leave the house
  13. I go to work everyday
  14. I feed my kitties
  15. I always try and match my socks to my underwear (who knows why)
  16. I try and take a few moments each day to just "breathe" (still new... working on it... but its coming)
  17. I watch what I put into my mouth (most people call this fussy... but I think its not a bad thing)
  18. I ask a lot of questions
  19. I listen
  20. I write
  21. I feel
  22. I speak
  23. I love
  24. I am

'Sir Alberic ...? Taken by a dragon ...? Are you sure?'

'Of course I'm sure,' growled the sooty woman. 'I am Lady Lucienne, his wife, and I saw it.'

A dark-haired girl emerged from the ruins.

'That disgusting creature over there,' said Lady Lucienne, 'is my daughter, Sylvia. She and I are all that remain of this castle's former inhabitants.'

Sir Deveril, hearing unfamiliar voices, halted his tour of the walls and hurried to join us. I introduced him to the women.

'Lady Lucienne says that a dragon destroyed the castle and carried Sir Alberic away. She and her daughter have lived among the ruins ever since.'

'We must take you both to a place of safety,' said Sir Deveril. 'Do you know of anywhere suitable in the area?'

'There is an abbey at Liddington,' said Lady Lucienne. 'That's about five miles from here. I'm sure we could stay there a while. I have met the abbess on several occasions and found her to be a most kind and helpful woman.'

'Do you have any horses?' asked Sir Deveril.

'No. The dragon ate them, otherwise we would have sought refuge at the abbey long ago.'

'We have three. Sylvia can ride behind me. Tevis, can you lend Lady Lucienne your mare? I think Sir Conal's white stallion would prove too spirited for her.'

Mother and daughter returned to their ruins to gather a few items of value. When they returned, I assisted Lady Lucienne to mount Delilah, then helped Sylvia climb up behind Sir Deveril.

Sir Conal's horse was nervous of a new rider and refused to stand still for me to mount. Sir Deveril was obliged to hold the bridle as I swung into the saddle. The peasants came out of their cottages to watch as we rode out of the village with Lady Lucienne at our head.

The first part of the journey retraced the route which Sir Deveril and I had taken from Hungerford, but instead of riding up to the top of the ridge we continued along its base, following the loops of a tinkling stream.

As the shadows lengthened, Sir Deveril called for a halt. We dismounted, drank from the brook, and ate more of the saddlebags' contents. The women walked downstream and washed off some of the soot that coated their hands and faces. When they returned, Sir Deveril moved to Lady Lucienne's side.

'Tell me more about the dragon,' he said.

'It was the most frightful creature I have ever seen, Sir Deveril. Green, belching smoke, and with hideous red eyes.'

'Did it have wings?' asked the knight. 'I only enquire out of professional curiosity as, at some point, I could be called upon to fight the beast.'

'It had monstrous wings equipped with the most dreadful claws.'

'Mother,' said Sylvia. 'I didn't see any wings.'

'But it must have had wings, my dear, or how could it have flown?'

'You saw it fly?' I asked.

'Mother did,' said Sylvia.' I didn't.'

Lady Lucienne frowned at her daughter.

'It disappeared into the clouds, Tevis. That, in my day, was what we called flying.'

'I'm sure that it flew, my lady,' said Sir Deveril. 'That's the very worst sort.'

'Sylvia,' I said, 'what actually happened when the dragon attacked the castle?'

'It's very hard to say exactly. It was during the middle of the night. We were all asleep - even our guards, it seems!'

'I was awake, dear.'

'Yes, Mother. Well then ... most of us were asleep. I was awoken by all the shouting. "A dragon! It's a dragon!" people were screaming. I looked out of the window of my chamber and saw a dark shape standing beside the portal. Flames poured from its mouth. It burnt down the gatehouse and entered the bailey. I ran to my parents' room and found Mother there, looking out of her window.'

'I saw it all, my dear,' said Lady Lucienne. 'Your father had gone downstairs with his sword to fight the beast. I saw him run out of the keep doorway - utterly fearless - and strike the creature.'

'But it was useless,' said Sylvia. 'The dragon snatched him up and carried him off. A little later, it came back to burn down the castle.'

'How did you both escape?' I asked.

'We went to the chapel,' said Sylvia, 'and sheltered there. Thank goodness it was set apart the other castle buildings.'

'An awful and extraordinary story,' said Sir Deveril. 'You ladies have shown remarkable courage in the face of severe affliction, but now we must press on to Liddington before darkness overtakes us.'

We arrived at the abbey as the sky went dark and rain began to fall. Lady Lucienne approached the gatehouse and pulled the bell rope.

'It's me,' she said to the nun who came to the door, 'Lady Lucienne of Wroughton. May I speak to the abbess, please?'

The matted hair and filthy gown did little to confirm Lady Lucienne's identity. The nun looked her up and down. Sylvia, who came to stand behind her, was in an even worse condition. But when the nun looked beyond the women to see Sir Deveril and me in the shadows, she gave a sharp scream.

'Please,' said Lady Lucienne, 'this is my daughter and these men are friends. May we at least come in for shelter?'

The nun looked doubtful.

'We admit men to certain parts of the abbey, but only if they leave their weapons outside the gate. The abbess will come to speak with you in the almonry.' She raised a finger. 'Be sure you proceed no further!'

We agreed and Sir Deveril and I removed our swords and daggers.

'Oh, Tevis,' he whispered as we filed through the door, 'I feel quite naked.'

There were no chairs or any other concessions to comfort in the almonry. We stood around awkwardly and dripped until the abbess arrived.

'Lady Lucienne!' she exclaimed. 'What awful thing has befallen you? And who are these men?'

'Esther, my home has been burnt and my husband carried off by an evil dragon.'

'No!'

'Yes, and these men have brought me here for safety. Please let Sylvia and me stay here for a while.'

The abbess smiled.

'Of course. Stay as long as you like.' She turned to us. 'I'm afraid, though, that we haven't the facilities to give hospitality to men.'

'That's quite alright,' said Sir Deveril. 'Lady Lucienne, we shall go now and make our own arrangements, but tomorrow we will return to see how you are.'

'Thank you so much for rescuing us from the ruins of our dear, dear castle,' said Lady Lucienne.

'Yes,' said Sylvia, looking directly at me. 'Thank you.'

Sir Deveril took our leave of the ladies. When we entered the gatehouse to collect our swords, we found two nuns engaged in a mock battle with them. Seeing us, they dropped the weapons on the floor and ran away, giggling.

Of all the nostalgia smells, Pub-stink must be the only one whose significance changes drastrically after having come of age.

Once upon a time, the musty mix of odours: 'fresh smoke billowing over stale'; 'beery air underpinned by auld-lad sweat and whiskey breath' and 'six month old crisps mashed into mouldy carpet', would have meant one thing to me...
BORRRRRRRRRRING (but maybe a fanta and bag of crisps to last the first three minutes at least).

It's mid-to-late teens when that scent's meaning becomes inverted.
By age twenty, passing a public house evokes the complete opposite to the familiar childhood reaction, and lungfulls on the way to an evening class are savoured in fondness until class is dismissed.

The smell itself has changed a great deal since the smoking ban, but I doubt that will make any difference to the kids of today. They still feel the same stop-running-around-and-sit-down-and-be-quiet frustration now which pub-stink provokes (with or without smoke) and will still feel the same elated anticipation in years to come, when the odour is associated with more fun than they ever had indoors, getting that same smokeless, but musty booze whiff.

As bonus content on the upcoming 'B!tch Sl@p! Volume 1' DVD, we decided to try our hand at a 'Mythbusters' style experiment.

Theory: Cigarette smoke does not contain NEARLY the amount of carbon monoxide found in automobile exhaust.

Method: I locked myself in an enclosed car with a pack of cigarettes, a carbon monoxide detector, a video camera, an electric vaccuum pump, and 20 minutes to finish every cigarette in my possession. Repeat the process (without me being in the car) with car exhaust being fed into the passenger compartment, and see which one produces a higher level of CO.

Conclusion: You'll have to wait for the DVD, but I think you'll be surprised.

It was a lot of fun, and we managed to get some pretty cool pictures... I'll be sharing them soon.

Well today I got back to work on math. Turns out they delete all remaining review after an assessment (who knew?). That went well. After that it was on to history. I have decided that Andrew Johnson was a ten year old for most of his term. Every decision Congress enacted, he vetoed it. “You want to do that? Well I don’t!! So THBBBTTT!”  My basic interpretation of him. After lunch I did homework. Not much to say except that the “Dubliners” is still as dark as ever. I really don’t like that book. Then it was time for my guitar lessons. I can officially semi-play the riff to “Smoke on the Water”. My strings buzz a lot. Then my family and I went to Culvers where my stomach almost exploded. And now I’m blogging to you. So there.

The Aargauerhof used to be a real rough place at the corner of Lang- and Hohlstrasse. You'd show up and get a table between the alcoholics and the junkies. Every couple of minutes the waitress (more of a very strict matron) would walk over to a table, wake up the junkie which had fallen asleep and throw him out the door. Why would you go there? Because the roeschti was the best I ever had. The cook would make it fresh every time and you'd have to wait. After you'd been served he'd show back up in the dining room smoking a big fat stinking cigar. The good old days are no more and the Aargauerhof has been turned into a shinier place. There's still a small section for the alcoholics at the bar, but the place draws more to chic Kreis 4 clientele than your person in unstable living conditions with substance abuse issues.

We had a small dinner my friend opted for the salad bowl "Veronique" - need I comment the name ? I opted for a pork steak. The size of it was phenomenal for the price I paid. It was a tad dry but otherwise tasty and well-cooked, a real bargain. As a side dish I opted for spinach, which was made fresh and went surprisingly well with the pork. None of the food was stellar or worthy of any Michelin stars, but it's good and at a decent price:

I just touched down in Portland, Maine...went to the radio station & met the DJ for WRED 95.9 who wasn't 100% sure what part of PA Wiz was from. The plane ride wasn't long at all either, 15-20 mins after being in my seat my eyes were wide shut. I woke up  to what i thought was irregular turbulence, but we were actually landing.

 

3pm @ the Hilton Garden Inn, so far it's looking dry in Portland...No w##d, by this time we'd be smoking good and i'm pretty sure we won't be disapointed. It's kinda wild being by the bay especially because I've never been this far north.

(Later on that day...) What Up! After getting a little taste of the "Flavor of Love" marathon I took a rest from VH-1 & Look! What do we have here?!!! 7pm and the funk is in da house!!! We smoking Sour-that Sour Diesel (ha ha, thats good smoke if y'all don't know), but you know how it is when you rolling with "Young Khareefa".

You can't get no more official than the Taylor Gang...Stay in the fliest hotels...Smoke the best grade...in a city we know not so well (star life!) It might be hard to believe but we have only begun to take this STAR sh*t to a whole other level. Believe that!

I've been many places, seen many faces, & who can blame me for having fun?
