Thoughts From Mars Hill and the Body, Soul, and Spirit Expo

It is difficult knowing where to start when describing the impacts which the Body, Soul, & Spirit Expo have had in mine and others faith. Were we called to do this out of bringing Jesus to those who sought after him most? Or, where we there to witness the impacts and expressions of Jesus which would affect those who came seeking and that of ourselves in following his lead? Sitting and listening to the many stories and the many moments of expression coming from those who went to the Expo, I could not help but recognize the depth to which Jesus worked; not just in the hearts and minds of seeking attendees but also in the core of his followers.

There are many stories which I would like to share with you but perhaps for the moment I will share just one. It was the later part of Friday afternoon and we had pretty well just finished setting our area up for people to come in and speak with us. A gentleman named Scott, who was just passing by, quickly noticed our open relaxed format and promptly walked right in a sat next to my friend Justin while asking, “So, what is this all about? Who are you guy’s?”

In truth, we were a little taken back by his upfront approach but we easily explained our affiliation with two local churches and intent to offer a place of hospitality and rest to those who might be down here at the Expo. “That’s cool!” he said. I asked him what brought him down to the Expo and he explained that he had come down for a “Quantum Energy Treatment”. I didn’t really understand what he meant but through conversation I could really sense his need to find a social setting of acceptance and to find a community which would not be judgmental by worldly expectations.

That was what was so cool about being in conversation with Scott. We went from talking about worldly judgments and values to the possibility of a different world’s values and then; the possibility of another Kingdom’s values and judgments!

It was in the midst of this conversation that Justin and I extended our hands out to Scott’s shoulders and we asked if we could pray for him. After asking how, he graciously accepted and following praying for him he asks with a large smile, “Is that it?”

I couldn’t help but sense the simplicity of Jesus’ gospel within these many moments at the Body, Soul, and Spirit Expo. Jesus made it clear, “The Kingdom of God is near!” (Luke 10:9) In the acceptance of that truth, “come follow me.” (Luke 9:23). Is that not what a true disciple is?

I have found so much encouragement out of this experience and can see the great things Jesus has done and is doing through our presence at the Body, Soul, and Spirit Expo. It is with the greatest hope that we return to these people as we share a gospel of love, hope, and faith (1 Cor. 13:13) and remain in their home (Luke 10:7).

Thoughts for the future…

Greater and more Radical Discipleship

We need to plan for Invitations of follow up and places for seeking people to go and encounter more about Jesus as we encounter them at the Expo. Whether it is gathering around ‘Alpha’, ‘The Secret Message of Jesus’, or something else.

Planning for Generosity

We offered free Bibles and donated materials. It is just a thought but, if we could plan for a rather more structured generosity “package” such as a connected Bible, Book (i.e. ‘Purpose Driven Life’, ‘The Secret Message of Jesus’, ect.), and a Daily Bread; I wonder if it might find a greater response.

More Space and Planning of Format

It seemed our 8’ X 8’ booth was quit cramped at times and difficult for inclusive and hospitable practices/values. If we had the opportunity to expand our area as well as the availability to use an electrical outlet we could work towards communicating a Third Place space and the values of Authentic Community in greater fashion. Hospitality can also be improved with better coffee, tea, and atmosphere.

Does anyone else think that they are saying pretty much the same thing. Amazing isn't? That two cultures say different things but mean the same. Yet everyone tries to be different. Umm...

The Hawk

This morning, through the pending clouds and gray skies, I saw a hawk. She was perched up in the pine tree. She was squawking as if to say, "I'm here! I'm here!" Wow! How amazing this bird looked sitting up there. You could see her head moving from side-to-side, taking in everything that was happening around her and below her. The wings unfolded as she moved from branch to branch in the tree. The wingspan is huge, but it shows her creamy white chest that she likes to puff out a lot. She of course groomed herself a moment, then back to looking around.
Call me crazy, but I think this hawk follows me. This is not the first time I have seen her over the years. Growing up so beautiful. There is a patch on her chest that has helped me to know that this is the one that keeps popping up and squawking her heart out. :-)
I love it! I love paying attention to the things around me and taking a moment to see.

This verse begins with the word "for" which is translated from the Greek word hoti. One of the other English words for this Greek word is "because”. Because God performed a certain divine act in the life of the believer, there was a manifested change in the mind of the believer. The manifested change came in the form of divine revelation knowledge concerning the glory (doxa) of God. Because God infused, (breathed into the spirit) of the believer, this came about. This is the working of regeneration as a part of the salvation plan of God. This regenerative act is a part of 2 Corinthians 5:17 speaks of the "newness" the believer. What was old has passed away, and replaced with all things new. Our minds have been renewed through this divine act (Romans 12:2). We have been made alive by God's Spirit. Old things--concepts and perceptions have been replaced with fresh spiritual enlightenment. This spiritual enlightenment is an ongoing process in the life of the believer. This renewal process began at the moment we accepted salvation. Now we are responsible to walk in the light as He is in the light on daily basis. This will help us to learn the new spiritual knowledge of Him through our growing relationship with Him.

The action God performed came through a commandment. The word "command" comes from the Greek word epo, which finds its root in a primary verb, which is used, only in the definite past tense. The other tenses of this word are borrowed from the Greek word ereo which is translated into English as say 57 times, speak 7 times, tell 4 times and speak of 2 times for a total of 71 times in the King James Version. It means to utter, to speak, or say. The other alternate form of epo is rheo, which can be understood as a pouring forth. In this divine act of God, He poured forth into the new life of the redeemed the knowledge of His glory.

God broke the silence that had existed for 400 years. All man had to go on was the laws and commandments that had been received by Moses on Mount Sinai. Since then, many more man-made laws had been added making the total number of laws 613. To break one of these laws was to break the whole law. These inconsistencies were among the many things that Jesus pointed out to his disciples. It was time for humanity to hear and receive the revealed Truth of the One True living God. It was time for them to come to the knowledge of truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ--God's only begotten Son. It was time to set the record straight. It was time for humanity to get the true description of Who He was, and the love He had in His heart for them.

Since we have been given this knowledge, it should be understood that no man could successfully preach and be of much good if they do not have a working relationship with the Lord and His Written Word. The individual mind cannot vacillate and hesitate concerning the gospel of Jesus Christ nor did the life that must lead. When the mind is filled with doubts, there is no faith. When there is timidity in doing the work of the Lord, then the boldness that is promised has not been received. The individual who declares what he has no acquaintance with the Lord cannot be effective. If there is no deep-felt conviction concerning the words written in the Bible, then how can this individual be effective for the kingdom of heaven? There is a lack of understanding concerning what the individual affirms. How can they stand by something that they do not understand?

What then should be the standard by which to measure the effectiveness of a person's words concerning Jesus and His gospel? This lesson teaches that there must be God-given spiritual enlightenment. The individual must be God-breathed upon in order to receive the right illumination. There are illuminations that have their source in the rulers of darkness, and then there is the true Illuminator who shines through to the heart causing a change. There must be a relationship developed through personal interaction and experience with Jesus Christ.

But if there have been a few transfigured men and women, there has never been such a thing as a civilized society. Creştinii au găsit repede soluţia la această restricţie (au ales pahare mai mari) :

“…Fiule, am spus odată să nu se bea mai mult de trei pahare cu vin. Şi creştinul a făcut paharul de o litră. Domnul nu a băut pentru poftă…”(25 iunie 1979)

4. Vinul este permis, dacă se bea cu măsură: un păhărel

“…Fiule, nu zic să nu te atingi de vin, dar bea numai un păhărel. Ce e mai mult aduce pe duhul rău”(9 iunie 1985)

Să înţelegem de aici că în perioada 1979-1985, când erau permise trei pahare de vin, acestea îl aduceau pe duhul rău la creştini?

5. Alcoolul e interzis. Cine bea spirt devine inflamabil

“ Pentru ce, fiilor, vă duceţi în cârciumi, folosind băuturi alcoolice până vă îmbătaţi ca şi cei din lume? […] Lepădaţi băuturile alcoolice” (8 decembrie 1970)

“…Vine focul şi mistuie totul şi se va face pământ nou, şi să nu te temi că te voi arde şi pe tine, dar să nu bei spirt. Crezi? Chiar dacă ai postit o lună, şi o dată ai băut spirt, vei fi mistuit de foc.” (31 decembrie 1973/13 ianuarie 1974)

6. Arhiereii care beau ţuică nu sunt arhierei

“…tot omul care bea ţuică îşi pierde darul cât ar fi de mare, chiar dacă zice el că e arhiereu sau patriarh. Dacă bea ţuică nu e arhiereu, nici patriarh”. (8/21 aprilie 1974)

Probabil că la Pucioasa acesta este un criteriu infailibil de a-i recunoaşte pe cei care sunt sau nu sunt arhierei.

7. Numai vinul a rămas neblestemat, fiindcă Maica Domnului s-a rugat pentru vin

“…Să ştiţi că Dumnezeu a blestemat toată băutura afară de vin. Şi era gata să cadă şi vinul sub bestem, dar Maica s-a rugat. Aşa să spuneţi, că Dumnezeu S-a supărat pe beţivi şi a blestemat şi a rămas neblestemat numai vinul şi apa.” (21 iulie 1974)

8. Creştinii care nu beau vin au numele binecuvântat.

“Să ştiţi că mai e un grup de creştini, nu de aceia care beau ţuică. Mai e şi fără ţuică şi mai e şi fără vin. Vinul îl are numai când se împărtăşeşte. Să le fie numele binecuvântat!”

9. Creştinii beau la înmormântare, iar mortul are de suferit de pe urma faptei lor

“ Vai de mortul care s-a îngropat şi s-a dat băutură la îngroparea sa…”(15 iulie 1977)

“ Cine pune alcool la pomană, la praznic sau la parastase, nu este primit de Mine…” (3 sept.1980)

10. Propovăduitorii nu mai au voie să se atingă de băutură

“…Sunt unii creştini care beau, ca să aibă chef la rugăciune şi la propovăduirea sa. Nu aşa! Feriţi-vă de aceste păcate. Nu puneţi pe buzele voastre băutură, când rostiţi despre Duhul Sfânt.” (3 februarie 1978.)

11. Băuturile îmbătătoare (deci, şi vinul) nu se binecuvintează

“ …Au ieşit oameni care dau binecuvântare la băuturi îmbătătoare. Feriţi-vă de aceştia…” (21 iulie 1978.)

Practica liturgică din biserică a consacrat însă binecuvântarea vinului, grâului şi untdelemnului, nu numai la slujba Litiei, ci şi la alte slujbe (pomeniri, parastase, etc.)

12. De prea mult alcool, tot pământul va lua foc şi va arde

“…Alt cuvânt grăiesc, că din pricina prea multului alcool, va lua tot pământul foc şi va arde şi nu ştii unde te vei piti. Unde ai să te duci? căci focul se va întinde cum se întinde pe iarba uscată.” (9/ 22 septembrie 1978.)

13. Cine bea alcool, acela să nu se aştepte la bine

14. Alcoolul e băutura satanei

“ Dacă ţi-e milă de acel răposat, fă-i soroacele după voia lui Dumnezeu, lipsite de băutura satanei, cea ameţitoare.” (1/14 decembrie 1986)

15. Unele izvoare nu mai dau apă, ci ţuică

“…Copii, am vizitat pământul acesta în lung şi-n lat şi am numărat izvoarele de apă şi nu am găsit câte am ştiut Eu. Multe izvoare nici urmă nu mai au şi în locul lor era şipotul de ţuică. Iese spirtul şi din lemne şi din secară şi din porumb şi din grâu, că Domnul Iisus a binecuvântat să nu se facă spirt. Tată, tată, când stai în genunchi, roagă-te să nu îţi fie poftă de spirt, că Dumnezeu nu vine să te scape, fuge şi te părăseşte. Dumnezeu nu se mai uită la cel ce bea spirt. Just like you, I looked everywhere for simple logical answers and not opinions. After months of researching various resources and attending courses, I know I have the simplest answer. All skeptics call these sort of concepts as delusional, paredolia, hallucinatory, illusions, fantasy, dreams and imagination; but if you "believe" or "know" otherwise, here is a short, simple and concise definition.

A ghost or spirit is a mind without or outside a physical body. That's it.

Spirits, apparitions, angels, psyche, ego, id and souls are the synonyms of the same.

My wife and I deal with these on a daily basis. We have assisted over 50 spirits move into the light or back to source. After 13 years of witnessing my wife's psychic experience, I have been able to completely understand and write about this. The text here is divided into multiple short easy reads.

~What are they?~

All minds exist in states of emotions, and ghosts are exactly that; dissatisfied states of emotion hence very unstable. This emotional state is the same as living humans who are equally dissatisfied but having physical bodies. 'Souls' on the other hand are generally satisfied minds (spirit guides, guardians, healers) but are incorrectly associated with negative ones in terms of terminology. [When we as humans refer to mind, body and soul, what we subconsciously mean is: Dissatisfied Ego (mind in need), Physical Body and Satisfied Soul (mind with no need), if you recall, soul food is a term commonly used to describe food that is satisfying or soothing.]

~the human concern on ghosts~

Ghosts/spirits have been termed as good & bad by those who are unaware of its lost meaning. Most good spirits are really positive emotion energy sources and parade as guardian angels or spirit guides. They constantly help people evolve into positive minds. These guardian angels or guides could be anyone you have known or not known from your living life. They are there to serve you when you truly make efforts to help yourself or when you need to perform an act of selflessness.

The ones termed bad aren't really bad in the sense of the word, but just insecure, lost, less evolved and selfish. Some call them energy vampires, evil spirits or versions of Satan or the devil. These negative spirits are usually the dissatisfied ones unconsciously seeking help while in self denial. As they are selfish in their ways, they are easily attracted to selfish acts by you or me. Its the law of attraction: Like attracts like. This is one of the reasons why its wise not to call spirits for personal help unless its an act of selflessness. Your guardian angel may not help you keep them at bay once you receive help from such negative sources. Its a price you pay for being selfish and interfering with the "results" of your actions/karma (i.e. interfering with your destiny). I suggest watching "The Sixth Sense" and paying keen attention to the script. All scripts are written very carefully; each sentence specifically revealing crucial details about the concept. Some Hollywood script writers and movie makers are already aware of this as a reality and quite a few movies have their scripts tuned to put the point across in a subtle format.

~spirit assistance~

Helping ghosts or spirits move on into the light is quite an age old practice. The easiest of it is achieved by complete spiritual belief in prayers or seances. This is done by praying to your guides or for those who are religious, pray to your version of a "God". Its best to speak or think with your heart and not with mantras or incantations you barely understand. Your spirit helpers, guides and healers in the astral world (or emotional world) can read your emotions from your prayers even when you think it before they help these lost souls move on. However, if you have discovered your own psychic abilities and have overcome your fear of this unknown, you can assist them in a way as simple as you would help your friends move on in their troubled lives; through talk, empathy, listening, understanding and hope. Most of the time spirits don't know that they are dead and need help to recognize this. They are just confused, lost and need love. When you feel they are ready, ask them to move into the light. Sometimes some may keep coming back for more help but this requires only additional patience & sensitive nurturing. If you would find yourself being drained, ask other spirit helpers or guides for assistance as well. This can be easily done through emotions and thoughts/prayers. All spirits, especially those seen as evil or bad, need help. Its up to you if you have it in you to help them. If not, no worries, there are plenty who constantly take up the part time task of making this place a more positive environment. There is plenty of reading material on-line on this subject. ~how to see a ghost or spirit~

Ghosts or spirits exist in the astral plane (synonyms: emotional realm, mental plane, ethereal). If you are in touch with your emotions, there is a good chance you can emotionally feel or see their presence (also known as extra sensory perception - ESP). Some appear as auras and some exactly as they might have appeared in the physical. Since we all have minds, it is but logical to be able to meet spirits in the mental plane (an area of debate with skeptics). Some say that you require your minds eye (ajna, third eye, 6th chakra) but it means the same as mind. For the most part, you would need to meditate regularly as a practice. This might also help heighten your physical senses bringing you to one or more of these states:

Clairvoyance: Heightened sense of sight

Clairaudience: Heightened sense of hearing

Clairgustance: Heightened sense of taste

Clairscent or Clairalience: Heightened sense of smell

Clairtangency or scrying: Heightened sense of touch
Clairsentience: Heightened sense of knowing how you feel

Clairempathy: Heightened sense of knowing how others feel

~How to be a ghost or a spirit?~

You already are one since you possess a mind; but in the true sense of it all, please do a course in Vipassana to see the world like it is. This will help not just heighten your senses, but will also teach you how to have an out of body experience (astral projection). In this state, you will be completely conscious outside your physical body with abilities beyond experience. There are plenty of other courses available and I know some are taught by the International Academy of Consciousness and The Monroe Institute of Hemi Sync Research.

~How do people become ghosts?~

Based on plain physical human knowledge, ghosts or spirits are the astral/emotional remains of what used to be the person in the human physical projection; but the reality is that the physical is just a temporary projection (or presence) to aid in learning the concepts of true satisfaction. The astral/spirit world is our real home and the astral body (mind), the real body. The physical plane is just a school of learning. We incarnate a number of times to complete our karmic tasks as students or teachers. You'd be surprised to know that you have many ghosts of your own past lives. These are normally termed as past life egos and predominantly take control of your life as you live this one out. Its easily noticeable especially when your behavior is out of control and you have no clue or realization on why you behaved so bad. Past Life Regressionists usually refer to these events as reliving emotions from your past life. Google on karmic groups for additional information or just read the book "Many Lives, Many Masters" by Dr. Brian Weiss.

~Rituals to get rid of evil spirits~

Every ancient culture has it. There are incantations, incense sticks, yagnas or yajnas, candles, exorcisms, smudging with dried sage, cauldrons, silver bullets, crosses, herbs, etc, you name it. The rituals are aplenty, you can buy a mask in Africa or place a black dot or eye in India to ward off nazar or evil spirits. What I am about to say will be a bit far fetched if you haven't researched the concepts of the consciousness, astral realms, out of body experiences or near death experiences. These rituals come from age old traditions that are active in universes other than our own physical universe. Within the astral realm, there are parallel worlds where souls live the same way we do. For them, their life is equally physical as we live ours but their laws of physics differ. Their laws may involve telekinesis or magic wands or communication like telepathy. These rituals we perform originate from those worlds. It comes to us through people from those worlds who incarnate into ours or from people who astral project into that realm. (Astral project is to put your mind into a form of trance which some people refer to as OBE or out of body experience. This projection, like they do in the movie Matrix while sitting in their chairs, helps you visit other worlds that we usually deem as fantasies. )
Within the physical realm, these rituals do no actual good except soothe your mind into a belief that everything is fine. Its important to note that the end goal is peace of mind and this can be achieved even without rituals. The next time you run around warding off spirits with symbols of religion in your hand or screaming prayers, do remember that there are simpler ways to help them leave; ask spirit guides for assistance or channel to them with positive thoughts and persistent empathy. I just hope that spirit is not related to you from your past or present life. It would be really tough if you would have to pay karmic debts by constantly or unwillingly helping them.

how do ouija boards or seances (séances) work?

When spirits are called to answer questions using ouija boards or seances, in every case, the spirit is either hosted by one of the members pushing the planchette or the spirit assists in its movement. This person could temporarily pose as a spirit medium and in some selfish cases, spirits drains them out of their energies for days or months. ~what is paranormal?~

Anything outside the laws of physics is considered paranormal. The mind is one example of the paranormal even though we all have one and its quite normal. Minds do not follow laws of physics and hence poses a real problem for skeptics and researchers. Traditionally speaking, the paranormal is what cannot be physically sensed by majority of humans or physical instruments. Emotions are what I have found out that exists under the general categorization of paranormality. Ghosts, angels, demons etc are all minds with emotions and hence emotions itself. You won't find this specific explanation anywhere online.

~Skeptics: Spirits & Ghosts on Camera~

There are plenty of picture and video galleries available on-line where sightings have been displayed. But lets be honest, for skeptics, be it any skeptic, until they witness it in person to a convincing degree, they will not yield. Trusting other's experience is something skeptics have not been able accept; its a fair justification. All afterlife experiences are meant to be personal and individualistic. Its a starting point to understanding that there is more beyond the everyday rut and to understand that you are not here by accident, that you have a purpose in this lifetime with karmic duties towards close friends and family. Spirit sightings are well meant to awaken these thoughts.

But are they really visible on camera?
The answer is:

Only if they want to be seen in that way and know how to project into the physical. There are various reasons for why they may make their physical presence felt.

They are related to you in some way and trying to talk to you
A past life or current life karma with them could need closure
To awaken your curiosity about the afterlife
To have you question traditional dogmas and doctrines
To have you question gaps in science itself
To have you question life in its biggest picture
To ask the really big questions!

There are plenty of reasons and you need to find that specific one.

Ghosts/minds/spirits in general cannot be sensed by physical objects unless they project into the physical at will. When I say project, I mean making themselves available at physical frequencies detectable by physical instruments. All forms of physical instruments render useless if a spirit does not wish to be noticed. This is one of the main reasons that hunting the physical realm for something that is mental is always never accurate or reproduce-able. The emotional or mental realm can only be accurately researched using mental or emotional means.

I saw this quote on Model Mayhem. Kinda struck me. Marinate on that one for a minute.

Leave you breathless. You won't forget me. You will remember.

To capture someone's attention. What does that mean?

Not only do they look, notice, stop a sec, but you hold their notice. For a few seconds, a few minutes, something about you, what you look like, your personality, your heart, your soul, your words, your actions, held someone's attention. And if you can leave that person breathless, then damn that's powerful. Who or what do you give your attention to? What holds you? What moves you? What do you dwell in?
What takes your breath away?? What makes you pause in your step, in your thoughts? What makes you so excited that you have to catch your breath?

And the simple fact that human beings, your soul, your spirit, has the ability to reach out to another person, and "capture their attention" and "leave them breathless" is like WOW.

A lot of times, beauty, the abnormal, the strange, the loud, the surreal, will capture someones attention. Makes you a double take, take a second glance. But breathless??

Maybe a sunset, maybe the way i see a tree blowing, gazing up at mountains. Those things leave me breathless. But a person?

Are we open to people? Do we give people a chance to leave us breathless, or do we just bypass their spirits?

I need to sit on that one for a bit longer.

Romans 8

After reading Romans for the past week or so, I've come to a very convicting and good conclusion. For most of us Christians, I think that it's safe to say that we like living right. We like being in touch with what God has to show us. We like being obedient and led by the Spirit. However, I think that one area that is somewhat dusty, or at least untouched in my life to the reality of the war of flesh vs. Spirit.

I think that as Christians, we are held by God to a higher standard. Because we have been given knowledge in the Bible and through our own experiences, we know what's right. After reading the first section of Romans 8 enough times, I think that we need to be conscience in the way that we walk in the Spirit, and not-walk in the flesh.

So when you're at the mall with friends(guys), do you choose to stare at Victoria's Secret like some of your friends- or not? When you're at the movies, do you choose to watch a movie filled with sexual humor and scenes?

This is the question, and the reality is that we much put forth a conscience effort to do what the Spirit wants us to do. We need to think and pray about our actions and realize what we are living for.

This is how we move from Spiritual mediocrity into Spiritual greatness.
