In an interview with MTV, Steven Segal says that there are a few offers on the table for UNDER SIEGE

In an interview with MTV, Steven Segal says that there are a few offers on the table for UNDER SIEGE 3; even going as far to day that he would like the storyline to be extraterrestrial in nature. While I don’t know exactly what those offers could be, I would be quite surprised if Warner Bros, who produced the first two entries in the series, would really be keen on financing a third, considering the former big screen action hero is now 57 and has been reduced to making straight to DVD fare for over a decade. I will say this though - if Segal was somehow able to make a real comeback, I could think of nothing better than to do it with his ass kicking navy cook character, CASEY RYBACK.

I have always had mixed feeling about Segal. He’s always come across as a guy way too full of himself, although I am a big fan of the Under Siege series. After breaking onto the scene with ABOVE THE LAW in 1988, he went on to do successful B movie fare like HARD TO KILL, MARKED FOR DEATH and OUT FOR JUSTICE. It was 1992’s UNDER SIEGE that Segal elevated his game. Warner Bros upped the ante by increasing the budget in comparison to his other films and surrounding him A-list talent, with names like director ANDREW DAVIS (The Fugitive) and actor TOMMY LEE JONES, who was terrific as the film’s main villain. UNDER SIEGE opened to solid reviews and went on to gross 156,000,000 on a budget of 35,000,000.
His next film in 1994 was ON DEADLY GROUND, an environmental message film that Segal also directed. While watchable, the film was heavy handed and short on action. It also featured a silly over the top performance by MICHEAL CAINE, as the film’s villain. The movie was roasted by critics and an underperformer at the box-office, damaging Segal’s new found status in the business. Segal returned to his most high profile property in 1995, reprising the role of Casey Ryback in UNDER SIEGE 2, with the action taking place on a train this time around. Surprisingly, at least to me, Warner Bros didn’t screen the film in advance for critics, although it received a THUMBS UP on the AT THE MOVIES show by both Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert. I remember going to see it at a matinee the day it opened and enjoyed it very much. It’s a film I still watch almost every time I stumble upon it on TV.

With his star starting to fall hard, Segal took a small role in EXECUTIVE DECISION (1996) starring KURT RUSSELL in which his character is killed off in the first 30 minutes of its running time. It’s actually one of the most surreal moments in movie history as nobody expected it. After starring in the poorly received bomb, THE GLIMMER MAN the same year, the fledgling action star went on to do another environmental themed film, FIRE DOWN BELOW. The movie was a watch-able time killer but nothing more! That would be the last time I paid to see Segal on the big screen. Despite a try at a comeback in films like EXIT WOUNDS (not very good) in 2001 and HALF PAST DEAD (even worse) in 2002, Segal was relinquished to a career of straight to DVD features.

So now he’s talking about a big screen return in a third Under Siege film. For his sake I hope it happens, but I just can’t see a major studio, or even private investor, forking over the type of budget to make it viable. We’ll have to see how this plays out. Still, his legacy as an action hero has been solidified with the Under Siege films and his earlier work before them - are always a fun watch!

What intelligent person from the 80’s and early 90’s didn’t watch Van Damme movie

What intelligent person from the 80's and early 90's didn't watch Van Damme movies? The Van Dumb ones, that's who! Van Damme is the undisputed king of action flicks. To name a few; Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Lionheart, Streetfighter, Sudden Death... Com'on this guy defined international Action Hero! Okay so gays aren't known to be the biggest fans of Action. Generally most gays turn their nose at "Le Genre de les Actions" ...not this gay! I grew up with three brothers, we all loved this shit. At first I thought I hated Action and violence, and tried to rationalize why I should even pay attention to the opposite sex, especially if this is what they enjoyed and emulated. I was 10 years old. Due to acute "B-action-movie" exposure and too much sugar, I grew up with a thirst for glorified violence (shout out to Tarantino for nourishing my "violence hunger" as a young adult). After a few years of 90's Karate flicks and brutish so-called Action Heros of the era... like Steven Segal (douche), Sylvester Stallone (douche), Dolph Lundgren (too obvious) or Arnold Schwarzenegger (ugg), I realized that Van Damme offered something else, something a little more interesting.

For starters he's "The Muscles From Brussels," a hero with an edge... a character that is conflicted in his portrayal of alpha monkey doorknobs. For example in Nowhere To Run, he's an escaped bank robber looking for his loot and decides to rescue Rosanna Arquette and her two kids (one of whom is a young Kieran Caulkin that thinks Van Damme must be E.T.) from some ruthless developers that are trying to push her off her land. In Universal Soldier, he plays a soldier cryogenically frozen after a traumatic experience in Vietnam who is later re-generated as a cyborg Uni-sol and begins to have glitchy flashbacks of his possibly immoral choices. We don't get boss story premises like that any more! Wtf?

Okay maybe I'm giving you all an exaggerated view of this juice-quads past work. That's only because you need to get your gay ass out of your cardigan, off of you chaise lounge and go see JCVD. For the snoot in you (ya flaming queer), you'll appreciate the beautiful cinematography and intellectual choices in story telling. This is Van Damme's best work to date. And for the fags, he is still ripped like a porn star! In fact it'd make more sense if he played for our team (he's so effing sensitive). I actually wanted to cry at one point, until a 15 year old behind me laughed so nervously it jolted me out of the moment. It was as out of place as an A-hole that laughs at a funeral. If there was ever a way to gage how good a film is, a piece of the criteria certainly must be how unconventional an Action film makes you feel. JCVD will kick you in the face and make you laugh so hard you'll cry and then sit in silence because you know you've just witnessed cinematic gold.

Don't you just love it, being (semi)home alone. I'm sort of Home Alone today. My little sister is upstairs playing around with her computer.

Why I like being home alone? well I can just drink the entire bottle of Orange Juice by myself. I can eat the entire bag of popcorn (or till I feel sick like now).

I can watch old crappy movies like I did just now (Steven Segal saves people from collapsed tunnel) and I could go trough all the channels in the commercialbreaks without my parents saying that I have to stop it or that I have to watch something educational. Well I did also watch the same movie (flatline) as I did with relegion. that made me think, what is time?

but anyway back to the topic. I can use the laptop and watch crappy movies about annoying asian kids (which are actually quit funny) and watch a documentary about the Italian mafia on National Geographic.

I can lay in front of the fire on a huge pillow with the dog next to you without my dad saying that it's to hot or that my sisters take my place when I have to go to the toilet.

oh and something I also like to do when I'm home alone but what I didn't do today is taking long long hot showers.

ah lovely night tonight, did you enjoy yours?

A collection of skits written by the writers of the Onion news.

PLOT:

We watch the Onion News, America's Finest News Source, with Dana Dobbs, Senior Correspondent Kip Kendall, and award-winning anchor Norm Archer. In addition to watching the news, we see the program's commercials, some commentary on the film as it proceeds, and we watch some terrorists in training. Behind the scenes, Onion News's corporate owner, Global Tetrahedron, seeks synergy by promoting its other products within Norm's news broadcast. Norm doesn't like it, especially when a toy penguin (think Energizer Bunny) waddles across his desk promoting a Global Tetrahedron film starring Steven Seagal. But Norm may end up needing Steven's help.

REVIEW:

I had never even heard of this movie until I happened to see a trailer on one of the DVDs I watched last week. It seemed like it would've been hilarious. Well, in parts, it lived up to the hype, but for the most part it was just not that great.

It wants to have a plot, but just when it seems like it's about to go forward with it, then it goes back to skits that with a couple of exceptions aren't even funny.

The highlight of this film is Steven Segal as Cockpuncher.

I don't want to make this sound like this is the worst movie ever, because for all its faults, there are a lot of movies out there that make this look like Citizen Kane!

2 1/2 out of 5 stars

Thanks (I think) to Kin, who sends this Dharma-Burger-ific video from Steven Seagal, "Girl, It's Allright." It's from a few years back.

Really, Mr. Seagal? Is it "allright?" Because seeing you place shots of the Buddha or you putting your hands in gassho in this video -- in which you seem to be wooing a girl half your age -- does not make me feel "allright." It makes me feel yucky.

But who am I? After all, you're the tulku.

...on the other hand, if you wanna see a more relevant Video of the Moment, good ole Nate at Precious Metal has the scoop with this video of Brad Warner (author of Hardcore Zen) on CNN.

In 1985 a new restaurant opened for business on the causeway that traverses Mobile Bay connecting the port city of Mobile, Alabama, from its affluent suburbs in Baldwin county. That restaurant is now world famous. It was the ironically named Original Oyster House. Why is the name ironic? Because it was neither the “original” oyster house in the Mobile market (Wintzell‘s opened in 193 nor the “original” restaurant run by its owners (the original “Original Oyster House” opened in Gulf Shores, Alabama, in 1983).

Fast forward two decades and the Original Oyster House was known far and wide for their fantastic seafood and “mix it yourself” cocktail sauce. Every musical act that visited Mobile made a point of visiting there. Likewise with the plethora of NFL coaches and players that invade the Azalea City each year for the Senior Bowl. Even the occasional B-list Hollywood star like Steven Segal had found their way to the two-story restaurant overlooking the bay.

And why wouldn’t they? The OOH was famous for their award winning seafood gumbo. Accordingly its location on the Mobile/Baldwin County line made it the perfect meeting places for friends and family that lived on either side of the bay. If you live in the area long enough you will eventually have a birthday party there, a fact as sure as death and taxes.

On August 29, 2005 Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Mississippi Gulf Coast causing flooding to the west in New Orleans and to the East in Mobile. A 12 foot storm surge ravaged downtown Mobile and the adjacent causeway. The surge all but eradicated the first floor of the restaurant leaving only enough structural support to keep the second story from falling through. The building was a total loss.

On November 1, 2005 the new Original Oyster House opened just a mile or so down the Causeway from its predecessor, in the building that formerly housed the Cock of the Walk catfish restaurant. This newest incarnation was built completely off the ground. The owners were able to relocate everything including their commitment to excellence as they have now won 1st place in the Mobile Register’s annual Readers’ Choice awards in five different categories for the fourth straight year.

As for the old location - it is has been refurbished and currently holds Oysterella’s Oyster Bar. Sure the name is wacky but the food is adventuresome and half the visitors to town won’t even know it is not the same place that ate at all those many years ago.

Why isn't the Steven Segal box set available in America? Because no one would buy it. Why? Because we don't make awesome commercials like this:

I wasn’t sure about writing this article. Easter Eggs are only Easter Eggs if everyone doesn’t know about them, right? But the more I thought about it, the more elitists and exclusionary that felt. And, everyone keeps asking me about it. Like, whether or not certain things were intentional. And since TBS included some of these in his article last week, I figured it’d be okay to share the rest with you here… which features a bunch that I’m sure TBS wasn’t even aware of. So sneaky! Oh, and for those of you who plan to take part in our Trivia contest at World’s, you may want to take some notes.

Without any further hubbub, I’ll just get right to it. A list of all the Eggs I can remember from Marvel Universe. Oh, and just as a working definition, “Easter Egg” will mean any flavor text, powers, versions or names that reference anything from outside Marvel Universe or the comics that directly inspired the characters and themes chosen. Everything else, like where the art came from or the more obvious versions, you can figure out for yourself. Or, if you’re stumped you can ask and I might answer. Deal?

The Marvel Universe Easter Eggs

MUN004, Captain America, The Patriot, Secret Avengers: “The Patriot” is a reference to the movie of the same name staring Mel Gibson. Hah! Mel Gibson reference!

MUN004, Captain America, Living Legend: The flavor text “Is this what we’ve been fighting for?” is something I thought Cap might say in the (at the time unpublished) Avengers/Invaders maxi-series upon traveling to the future and discovering that, well, the future stinks. Was I right? Too early to tell. Also, the version plays to the fact that Steve is still alive in the A/I maxi.

MUN035, Above The Law: Yes, one of the many references to an 80’s/90’s action movie. At some point in naming these cards, right before editing took over I think, it occurred to me that there existed a great wealth of potential card names in the Segal and Van Damme sections of the Internet Movie Database. Genius? I think so too.

MUN042, Hard To Kill: Another Steven Segal movie reference. Classic stuff, man.

MUN048, Switching Sides: “Consider this a divorce” is a line from Total Recall. Arnold says it just after busting a cap in Sharon Stone’s head when he discovers she has once again betrayed him. Heh.

MUN054, Bullseye, Closer to God: The version is a reference to the Nine Inch Nails song “Closer”, which I guess is the music I hear when I think of him killing people. Plus, he’s got a God-complex.

MUN067, Speedball, Penance, Painmonger: “I am pain” is a line Pinhead says in one of the Hellraiser movies. Seemed appropriate, given the S&M tendencies of both characters.

MUN077, Dangerous Liaison: I mean, I’m not the only that’s seen this movie, am I? No, I’m not talking about “Cruel Intentions.”

MUN079, Ruthless Aggression: Originally titled “No Mercy”, we changed it because TBS wanted to use the name for Ultimate Battles. We didn’t end up using it, by the way. Ruthless Aggression and No Mercy were both inspired by the names of WWE pay-per-view events. What, I used to watch wrestling.

MUN080, Sanctioned Killers: Not really an Easter egg, both I thought I’d offer a clarification. The art cropped wrong. You can’t really tell, but Bullseye is actually stabbing two US soldiers in the brains. Cool, right?

MUN083, The Wrong Stuff: You’d think it’s a reference to the epic space movie “The Right Stuff”, but you’d only be half right. Actually, it’s from the homage scene in Micheal Bay’s “Armageddon” where one of the Air Force trainers says, about Bruce Willis’ ragtag crew, “Talk about the wrong stuff.”

MUN099, Life Model Decoy, More Human Than Human: The version is a line from the classic Sci-Fi movie “Blade Runner.” If you remember, Blade Runner was about replicants, or androids, trying to become human.

MUN106, Sentinel Squad O*N*E: This was some leftover art from… not really sure which set.

MUN128, Company Of Heroes: The name of a video game based on WWII. Good game and it sounded cool.

MUN129, I’m A Futurist: I’m sure the flavor “The best is yet to come” is taken from somewhere, I just don’t know where exactly. Or, it’s just one of those phrases that entered the American lexicon years ago. Like, “bread and butter.”

MUN131, License To Kill: An obvious reference to James Bond and his movies.

MUN132, Out For Justice: Another Steven Segal reference. Man, I love that guy!

MUN136, Security Clearance: Leftover art from Marvel Teamup. Yip and I had the idea to introduce the S.H.I.E.L.D. affiliation through a team-up card.

MUN142, Doctor Faustus, Johann Fennhoff, RAID: “Look into my eye” is a line from James Cameron’s Aliens. Look it up!

MUN147, The Hood, Prince of Pistols: The version is yet another reference to a Steven Segal movie.

MUN170, Assault on Helicarrier 13: The name is a reference to the John Carpenter film, “Assault on Precinct 13.”

MUN197, Bloodsport: Another reference to a Van Damme film.

MUN201, Hulk Smash!: The alternate foil art for this card is indeed the “face on a card” Jason Hager piece. The flavor text is a nod to Hager’s most famous creation, Evil Medical School and all its subsequent iterations.

MUN206, Annihilus, Anti-Matter Master: Our little nod to the fans. We all know the Negative Zone and the Anti-Matter universe are the same place, if only we could put all the characters on the same team. Le sigh.

MUN215, Cosmic Control Rod: Leftover art from Heralds of Galactus. Originally, this was intended as the long-awaited Annihilus character card, but he was cut in development.

MUN219, Gift For Death: From one of my favorite Thanos stories, this was leftover art from Heralds of Galactus or Marvel Teamup, I can’t remember at the moment.

MUN239, Clandestine Operations: This one is so obscure that only two people in the world would ever get it… me and my best friend from High School, Chris. The name of the card was wholly inspired by that man. I think it was sophomore year, and one of the words of the day in English class was clandestine. The teacher asked Chris to use it in a sentence. And he did. I don’t remember the sentence, only that he paired clandestine with operations and he said it in the most awkward, plodding way possible, just to annoy our teacher. “Claaaannn-dessss-tin-opppp-arrr-aye-shunnssss.” I guess you had to be there.

MUN240, The Elektra Situation: The name is taken from one of the chapter titles of the film “Pulp Fiction”.

This card idea offered the perfect opportunity to showcase it for everyone’s enjoyment.

MUN246, Loki, Laufeyson: Leftover art from Marvel Teamup. He was going to appear as 7- or 8-drop legacy for the Masters of Evil.

MUN251, Magneto, House of M: The flavor “Go in peace before I send you I pieces” is not just a play on his text box, it’s also a paraphrased line from the classic 80’s Sci-Fi thriller “I Come In Peace" starring the Punisher. Okay, maybe “classic” is too strong a word.

That’s a pretty exhaustive list right there, but I’m sure I probably missed some. I had planned to post the original art description for the official Easter Egg of the set, the alternate art Hulk Smash!, but I can’t seem to find it. These days, I believe it may only exist on some UDE mail server or lost inside Andrew Yip’s inbox.

I hope this was an enlightening read and that it taught you something about the silliness of set design. Or, maybe you didn’t learn a thing. Depending on what kind of feedback I get on this, which is usually verbal since no one that reads these can use a keyboard apparently, I might do the same for one of the other sets I worked on, like Marvel Legends or Marvel Team Up. That could be fun.

I love that Sopranos where Tony asks Dr. Melfi, “What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, sil

I love that Sopranos where Tony asks Dr. Melfi, "What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type. That was an American. He wasn't in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do." For real.

So I got to thinking; who are my Gary Coopers? Men so awesome, that no matter how tough you think you are, in comparison, make you feel like Buffalo Bill tucking your junk between your legs. I put together the list, and Gary Cooper isn't on it. I'm starting off with 44-40. I'll then be posting the subsequent entries in the order that they ranked. This way I won't exceed the maximum amount of awesome that this server can handle.

44. Lance Armstrong

First off, having the word strong in your name is exactly that. The seven TDF's don't do a lot for me. The fact that he did it with one nut... kinda huge (not the actual nut, just that he did it with only one). Then he went out and tagged Sheryl Crow, one of the Michelles from Full House, and Kate Hudson. Again, with one nut. Kinda huge.

_____________________________________________________________________

43. Johnny Knoxville

The rest of those Jackass guys are losers with nothing to lose. But Knoxville risks a pretty decent looking face to do the stuff he does. (I didn't just call him good looking.)

______________________________________________________________________

42. Steven Segal

Slow down. Before you jump down my throat, I know, he's a douchebag. And if this was a fashion contest he'd be disqualified. Plus he got fat, which makes me throw up just a little bit in my mouth. Having said all of that, you have to respect his aikido style (if you don't , Segal will teach you to respect it). Plus, ask me if I think opening a real dojo is perhaps the coolest thing on earth. Aye Sensei. You know you're dying to check out aikidojournal.com. Please finish the blog first.

_____________________________________________________________________

41. John Basedow

His head is three times the size of his body? Why don't you say it to his face? Because of the following two words: FITNESS GURU. Oh, you work out? Are you a fitness guru? Didn't think so. John Basedow is. That's why he's number 41 on the list and you're only reading it.

_____________________________________________________________________

40. Henry Rollins

What do these three things have in common?

a) Black Flag

b) Appearing in the movie Heat

c) This Video

So who knows where this blog is actually headed. 7 People read it today . . . I'm pumped!

So lately i've been taking my impulse to randomly bark out words and noises to a new level. For the past month or two, My vocabulary has been riddled with Jamaican slang. With my most used Deahhhh, and Bloodcot, to the occasional BEEE o BEEEE. I'm actually not even sure what falls into actual slang derivative from Jamaica.

I was exposed to all this slang while on a motorcycle trip down south shooting for the documentary i've been doing. I was sleeping on the floor of some hotel room falling asleep to Marked by Death, a movie about Steven Segal up against a dangerous Jamaican Gang Leader.

You can watch the trailer HERE

That was all I sort of wanted to get out in this post. On a personal note, I'm pumped on possibly collaborating with a rad Baltimore band on a music video. And I believe a music video I directed for VH1 show will air sometime in July. However that is a rumored air date.

Until Next time, Deahhhh Cowboy, Deahhhh
