Ok, I ain't know stunt man, but I do try :) Since Fayyaad mentioned his dreamy condition I thought I should enlighten you all on how to deal with head trauma. In this scenario the head trauma was caused by me making a short movie where carefully choregraphed fight scene ending in me being punched over a couch. Now all went well except the dive over the couch where I seemed to aim my head at the only wooden bar in the otherwise soft couch.

Concussion symptoms

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Vomiting
• Nausea
• Lack of motor coordination
• Balance
• Light sensitivity
• Seeing bright lights
• Blurred / double vision
• Ringing in the ears,
• Confusion
• Disorientation

For me the pain and then bad loss in vision really frecked me out enough to want to go to the hospital.

What to do and not to do?

• Go straight to hospital
• Don't watch TV or play video games for 24 hrs after
• Don't drink booze
• Don't go to work or school for 24hrs

Below are some additions I would like to make :)

• Don't fool your wife into thinking you are ok and attempt the scene again
• Don't run for a bus the next day
• Don't tickle your wife causing her to accidently elbowing you in the head the following day

Conclusion

Never give up your dream of doing stunts, two dislocated arms, one concussion and millions of bruises later I still feel like a stunt man! :D

One of my favorite things to do is to see a great action flick on opening night.  I love it!  It's a thrill for me and I love all the emotions tied up in it.  Will the movie be any good?  Will I love it or hate it?  Will there be a big crowd?  It's "live" suspense for me.

Tonight my wife and I will go and see the movie Wanted that is coming out today.  There are several actors in the movie who we really enjoy watching and we love the trailer for the movie, so we're going to find out tonight if it's any good.  No point in waiting until everyone ruins the suspense for us, we'll be finding out for ourselves.

Whether it's good or not, I'm sure I'll be entertained by all of the action and stunts, so that will be worth it to me.  I've had a pretty good run of "deep thinking" movies lately, so I'm looking forward to one where I can just sit back, relax, and drink up the action.

What constitutes ‘gangster rap’ music.

I am the Production Manager of ‘We Got the Beat’ and while my job title may sound cool, I am basically mired in paperwork. To date I have been insanely busy hiring, organizing, and managing but with nothing very exciting to blog about. This week as I was filling out our application for Production Insurance I came across the following little tidbit.

Qualification Questions (check yes/no):
Any: Stunts, Pyrotechnics, Aircraft, Boats, Animals, Race Tracks, Race Courses, Helicopters, Motorbikes, Snowmobiles, Blanks, Squibs, Guns, Live Gangster Rap Music, Hard-Core/Soft-Core Porn?

That’s right: LIVE GANGSTER RAP MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They just slipped that one in there didn’t they. I thought about this for a moment and then realized that while there is a lot of rapping in the film gangster rap didn’t exist as a genre until the late 80’s. Bullet dodged. Still how could a live music performance put you in the same risk category as a film featuring a chimpanzee firing an AK-47 from the back of a snowmobile as he pursues a couple of rogue hookers (on motorbikes) across a minefield. Looks like I will have to rethink this scene for my ‘Arctic Chimp Bordello’ screenplay if I ever want to insure it.

Pelo visto, meu blog segue uma ordem cronológica meio Michel Gondry, vou no final, depois volto no começo, pulo lá na frente de novo. Nada com ordem definida.

O certo seria eu contar isso que eu vou contar agora primeiro, depois contar o caso da primeira parte da minha primeira vez.

Mas estava mais inspirado a escrever sobre a internet aquele dia, então já foi.

Voltando ao assunto:

Eu sou novo, tenho 21 anos. Logo, nasci em 1987. Logo tenho 21 anos e nasci em 1987.
E na minha infância, até os 8, 9 anos, eu me divertia era jogando bola, praticando esportes (ô), brincando na rua. A atividade mais nerd que eu fazia era jogar videogame. Mas isso é assunto pra outro post.
Ou seja, eu não tive nenhum contato com computador na infância. Aqueles computadores pré-históricos, com disquetes de 50 cm, telas verdes, e tudo mais, não cheguei a acompanhar.
Lembro que a primeira vez que vi um computador, cheguei perto, encostei nele e interagi com ele, eu não tinha 10 anos ainda, talvez tivesse uns 7 a 8 anos. Mas lembro que eu fascinei com aquilo.

Estava na casa de uns tios meus para o famigerado almoço de domingo em família. Meus primos estavam todos entretidos em frente a uma tela, montando algo que parecia ser uma pista de corrida no computador. Os caras botavam loopings, curvas acentudas, e outras diversas coisas.

Depois de montar a pista, eles pegavam um carro azul, acho que era um Lotus, e faziam o percurso que haviam eles mesmos montado.

Aquilo me fascinou de tal maneira que depois quando tive meu próprio computador, com internet, e bateu aquela saudade da infância (leia-se aos 18 anos, quando você despede-se da adolescência e sente saudade da época infantil), eu procurei o jogo e conseguí lembrar do nome do mesmo.

STUNTS!

Na época, era o melhor dos gráficos, jogabilidade. O jogo era bom demais.
Além de ser um bom jogo de corrida, ainda permitia ao jogador montar sua própria pista com loopings, túneis, curvas, subidas, descidas, e o que mais a imaginação permitisse.

Só que aos 18 anos, quando resolvi baixar o jogo novamente pra matar saudade, me frustrei.
Claro né. Quase 10 anos depois, os jogos haviam melhorado infinitamente. Gráficos, sons, tudo estava melhor. A realidade e fidelidade dos jogos era algo próximo já na época.
Eis que eu resolvo baixar um jogo pré-histórico, com gráficos parecendo que haviam saído do paintbrush (porque Paint é o que tem no XP,  até o windows 95 era paintbrush), com sons que pareciam martelo batendo numa vidraça... Era horrível.

Eu quase peguei ódio pelo jogo novamente.

Bom, e isso tudo é apenas para alertá-los: talvez uma (boa) memória seja melhor se for apenas uma memória.. nem sempre revivê-la é proveitoso.

Ou seja: não invente de jogar todos os jogos que te marcaram na infância, você pode se frustar.

1. INDIANAPOLIS SPEEDWAY - you have to work it in somewhere. It is an icon of American racing and cars and history all in one. Occasionally TG gets into the history of cars by exploring the past and how crazy ass those people were driving without seatbelts, air bags or windshields. Indy is an icon and the track isn't busy most the year, so stop by, build something, race it, put the stig against some real drivers, drive some vintage racers and see what happens.

2. The Bonneville Salt Flats - We all know this institution for it's land speed records and it's yearly speed week. I would love to go, but alas I have a day job that pays fairly well and I can't leave. So, go out, build something, race something, follow the stories of some teams, see what it is all about.

3. Nurbergring - Ok I know it isn't all one word like that, but it's how I say it. This track has gained heavenly status since it's TG inclusion and it is the 3rd most interesting car place to go on my list. A major feature of this trip would be the lack of German language knowledge of the presenters and the colorful regulars that race there. Sabine is a super bonus since she is an amazing driver.

4. Route 66 - Hello road trip. I think most of it is still available or close to being travelable now. It might be a fun challenge with vintage cars. They say they were easy to fix because there weren't all the bolt on power accessories back then, so if they break down it shouldn't be too hard to fix a 57 Chevy right?

5. Fuel economy cars - hey, we are all affected by this running out of oil because "we taught the rest of the world to worship cars and now they have them" problem. So why not do some alternative fuel conversions? I have a 2001 Saab 9-3 that I would love to convert to electric. How on earth does one do that? What ever happened to electric car magazine from the 1990's? Import some Hot Hatchbacks from Europe that should be for sale here based on their fuel economy stats.

6. Demolition Derby - Hello; fun times at the state fair. Every show should end with a Demolition Derby or breaking stuff.

7. NASCAR - Um, I am not much of a fan, but at some point you have to respect the speed that they travel and their innovative use of duct tape. I would suppose there could be a lot of interesting challenges here. Not sure what though since I don't watch because of that annoying rev-it-up segment they have. Do they have what it takes to be on a Nascar pit crew?

8. Figure out why American cars suck. Seriously, why do they suck now when they didn't 40 years ago? Take a poll, comparison shop, talk to the US manufacturers and ask why they suck and why I have to buy a car from Sweden just to get a decent looking one, even thought it is still an unreliable piece of crap from GM. Why can't they bring back the 50 mpg geo metro for the eco-people who want it or the EV 1 for people who love it, why can't Ford design a fuel efficient car to save their life and why can't Chrysler make a car that doesn't break down every 3rd week?

9. Buick of the week segment - just a suggestion...

Ok, that is all I could come up with in 15 minutes. I will post more later if I can think of additional ideas, but alas I have to go back to my real job now. I would think also that as many new car reviews as you can get for hot cars is great, but don't forget real people cars too like low cost entry level cars and family cars. You can forget the trucks and mini-vans though. No one really needs to test them, they are all the same.

Burress Won't Practice Without New Pact

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (June 11) - Plaxico Burress isn't going to practice with the New York Giants until the Super Bowl champions give him a new contract.

Burress reported to the Giants' mandatory minicamp Wednesday but refused to work out because he wasn't happy with the way contract negotiations are progressing between the team and agent Drew Rosenhaus.

Coach Tom Coughlin had indicated after practice that Burress did not work out because of a knee injury, but the receiver said he was healthy.

"Me and my agent are trying to get a deal done so I can stay a New York Giant for a long time," Burress said. "I, personally, don't like the way they're going and I am not happy about it. I am choosing not to participate."

General manager Jerry Reese refused to comment, saying it was an internal matter.

Burress, who caught a game-winning 13-yard touchdown pass with 35 seconds remaining in the Super Bowl to give the Giants a 17-14 win over the previously unbeaten New England Patriots, has three years remaining his six-year, $25 million deal. He will earn $3.25 million this year, $3.5 million in 2009 and $3.75 million in 2010.

First thing this morning is an audition for a stunt job. For this one, they're looking for a businessman-type guy with trampoline skills. (Trampoline: cool. Businessman: ouch, is that what I look like?)

This is the outside of the very nice studio.
Inside, there are real photographers, so it's not cool to shoot pictures.

When I get there, Jennings and Michael (two of my long-time friends with special skills) are there already. Watching them launch themselves through the air for the camera, I realize that this is a level of "quality time with friends" I really enjoy.

One note about stunt work: There are a hundred reasons you can miss getting the job. Wrong face, wrong height, wrong skills, you name it. "Didn't try hard enough" isn't one of them. Everyone who shows up is in it for real. That's how it works, and that's what makes these friendships great.

This attitude is also one of the qualities I'm most attracted to in my muse.

After that, I drop in unexpectedly to spend time with a bunch of my best friends during a very difficult day. Benjamin Franklin provides clarity: "We must, indeed, all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately."

I'm proud of you guys.

In the evening, I've got the good fortune of attending a small book signing in the city. It's crowded, and the author's kept very busy talking to friends who showed up. Still, she finds time to chat and sign my copy.
