I am happy Pulp Fiction is within the top 10 (number 9) although I would have expected other films of Quentin Tarantino to score higher. Saidly enough it seems to be the only film I have seen out of the top 20, a whole world out there waiting for me to be explored.

Every year every wrestling fan looks forward to Pro Wrestling Illustrated's Top 500 Wrestlers. This year the number one spot was rightfully given to Randy Orton. The full list of wrestlers is floating around on the internet, but I strongly suggest you pick up the issue instead of just reading the list. Now, in a smart move, PWI has done something new this year. Women's Wrestling has grown and become more of a focus in the industry over the year, and so, there is now a Top 50 Women's Wrestlers. You might be a little surprised as to who takes that top spot. Both issues are on sale now and a MUST READ for any wrestling fan.

Hoe wordt deze lijst nu samengesteld? Er wordt vertrokken van een lange lijst die wordt aangeleverd door TCAB (The Centre for Brand Analysis), een onafhankelijk bureau die info haalt uit verschillende bronnen gaande van sector reports tot blogs. Die lijst wordt geshortlist door een team van 27 experts naar een lijst van 1350 merken. De 27 experts zijn CEO's van bedrijven in allerhande sectoren zoals media, marketing en consultancy. Het spreekt voor zich dat de experts geen punten mogen toekennen aan bedrijven waar ze enige link mee hebben. Van deze 1350 merken valt ook nog eens ongeveer de helft af, namelijk de merken die overall een mindere rating kregen van de experts. Vervolgens wordt de lijst losgelaten in een marktonderzoek met een representatieve steek van 2.200 ondervraagden. De 500 best scorende merken krijgen de titel Superbrands en worden opgenomen in de UK Superbrands Top 500.

Klik hier voor de volledige lijst. Wat mij al direct opviel: Facebook scoort beter dan pakweg McDonalds, TomTom, MTV, etc. en het bij ons relatief onbekende Royal Doulton scoort beter dan absolute topmerken zoals Sony, Nike,...

Notably, power consumption benchmarks (which you can learn more about over at Earth2Tech) were added to the list this year, further proof of how important conservation and energy efficiency have become in the computing world. So while x86 architectures dominate today's list, with a few appearances from IBM's Cell processor, it's possible some supercomputers of the future will go green now that the power consumption is getting measured. One way could be through the use of lower-powered embedded chips being tested as part of a research project on low-power supercomputers at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.

But today's is the first Top 500 list to ever track power consumption of these machines and the results are only semi-encouraging. The fastest computers, surprisingly, do not consume the most power. The average power consumption of a Top 10 system is 1.32 megawatt and the average power efficiency is 248 megaflops per watt.

Older machines on the list are using more less power, but are just not as efficient. The average supercomputer on the Top 500 list has a power efficiency of 122 megaflops per watt. (The press release also says the average consumption of a Top 500 supercomputer is 257 megawatts -- we're pretty sure they mean 2.57 megawatts, but we're waiting to hear back on that.) Update: They got back to us to tell us that the average Top 500 power consumption is actually 257 kilowatts. That actually gives me hope that all the energy-efficient chips coming out recently can help this problem.

Ironically, many of these computers are engaged in the very types of climate modeling programs or protein folding operations that could one day help the environment. It's encouraging to see that the number of calculations per watt is trending up and that average power consumption seems to be trending down with newer machines at the top of the list.

However, the demand for power in these computers is crazy high (for comparison, an average desktop consumes about 80 to 150 watts), which explains why scientists at the Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Lab are hoping to figure out a more energy efficient way to build a supercomputer using embedded processors.

The VAR 500 list details the leading revenue producers among technology integrators and technology solution provider organizations in North America. The list's ranking is based on gross worldwide revenue of hardware and software sales, as well as earnings from professional and managed information technology (IT) services.

"The indirect sales channel for technology products and services drives two-thirds of all technology sales in the U.S., and the solution providers who make up the channel are the primary influencers of business technology decision making. This is why the VAR 500 is such an important list, because these are the top solution providers in the industry, and we salute each of them for their stellar performance," said Robert C. Demarzo, Senior Vice President and Editorial Director, Everything Channel. 

The 2008 VARBusiness 500 list includes 113 new companies with 10.6 percent of them in the top 100 of the list.  In addition, the starting point of the list - the revenue of company number 500 - rose to $33.4 million, up 35.2 percent, from $24.7 million in 2007. This increase reflects the strength and robust growth of the technology reseller channel.

To complete the 2008 ranking of the 500 largest North American solution providers, system integrators, VARs and IT consultants, companies were asked to complete an online questionnaire to determine prequalification.  In February 2008, VARBusiness conducted extensive research and analyzed the data. Independent data sourcing (e.g., SEC filings, annual reports, etc.) also was conducted.  finalists were ranked according to their fiscal year 2007 revenue, based only on their reseller-related services business.

Sattchi Gallery realizeza un top interactiv al celor mai influenţi 500 artisti ai secolului XX. Constantin Brancusi este, deocamdată, pe locul întâi. Daca vrei să ramana acolo, intra si voteaza aici. ( se poate sa nu mai fie pe primul loc, clasamentul fluctueaza destul de des )

Da, stiu, acest top are o mare doza de subiectivism. Orice mioritic înflăcărat, cu sau fara o minima cultura artistica, poate intra si vota. Asta insa nu il va împiedica pe patriotul austriac sa voteze cu Gustav Klimt iar pe boemul fracez cu Paul Cezanne sau Monet. Voturile venite din partea celor care stiu sa serveasca arta se vor pierde intr-un ocean de voturi acordate diletant si cu inima. De un lucru sa fiti sigur, cine va castiga va fi extrem de mediatizat si parca dupa dusul rece de imagine cu romul Mailat, o "victorie" in acest top 500 ar cădea tocmai bine.

Totusi, inainte de a va avânta la vot, aruncaţi o privire peste ce are de zis Wikipedia despre Constantin Brancusi.

P.S. pentru blogeri : considerati acest post un fel de leapsa cu pretentii si daţi mai departe informaţia si link-ul pentru vot. Va invit la o mobilizare artistico-patriotica de mare angajament pentru o cauza nobila si care necesita o atentia sporita: imaginea Romaniei !

Bueno llegamos a la jornada 20, número redondo, como redonda fue la jornada pasada para muchos (me incluyo), y eso no suele ser buen presagio para la siguiente. Además, me encuentro con las dudas de dos jugadores ahora mismo claves como Shammond y Curtis, y con un Madrid-Tau. En definitiva, que ¡vaya jornadita!, pero vamos a intentar hacer esto lo mejor que podamos.

Bases

Vamos a empezar con estos habilidosos hombrecillos.

• Ricky: Creo que no hay nada que comentar, no falla, y si falla se le perdona.
• Lakovic: El señor Jaka no tiene un partido complicado, aunque podría ser de pocos puntos, pero es el que tiene que tirar del carro culé para remontar el vuelo fuera de casa. Creo que lo hará bien, pero entre él y Ricky me quedo con el jovencito, regularidad al poder.
• Shammond: Si juega (seguid con atención el post de noticias), creo que la liará positivamente, yo lo he metido.
• Marcelinho: No me gusta para esta jornada, el granca defiende fuerte y creo que hay que quitarlo, yo lo he hecho.
• Gianella: Si sigue la ausencia de Curtis deberá seguir tirando del Granada junto con Page, es buena opción.
• Planinic-Prigioni: El que acierte con estos es medio vidente, yo no me la jugaba.
• Cabezas: Después de jornada mala le toca buena, el que quiera arriesgar ya sabe.
• Bennet: Mucho broker, jugando bien, pa’ dentro.

Aleros

• Rudy: Véase Ricky.
• Douglas: Con los extracomunitarios que tenemos últimamente no creo que haya sitio para él en muchos equipos, además los partidos que he visto del Ricoh no defienden mal a los aleros, vamos a esperar.
• Gomis: Contra el DKV no lo va a tener fácil, sin duda, pero yo voy a confiar en que siga su buena racha y lo he metido.
• Rakocevic-Bullock: Aquí viene el gran dilema del Madrid-Tau. A priori partido muy importante para ellos y en el que deberían dar la cara. Aún así, en estos partidos yo creo que cuantos menos jugadores tengas mejor, y yo no tengo a ninguno de los dos, a Rako me lo he quitado esta semana.
• Stojic: Me huele a partido difícil para él y además fuera de casa, pero yo me lo he quedado porque es bastante regular y porque tenía cambios más importantes.
• Welsch: Este es el Jiri que todos estábamos esperando, se queda en mi equipo y si no lo tuviese lo metería.

Veo buena opción también a Grimau, que parece que es el único que funciona en el Barça últimamente.

Para los amantes del riesgo: Jasen y Bulfoni.

Pivots

• Gasol: Véase Ricky y Rudy.
• Curtis: Si vuelve, no creo que sea al 100%, así que veremos qué tal para la próxima.
• Splitter-Felipe: Volvemos a lo del Madrid-Tau. En este caso me inclino por el español, el único del partido que tengo en mi equipo, que juega en casa y que se hipermotiva en estos partidos (a veces en exceso, pero en casa no creo que se la vaya la cabeza). A Splitter creo y espero que lo defiendan bien entre Felipe y el experimentado Lazaros.
• Triguero: Parece que la llegada de Roe no le resta minutos de partido, pero sí protagonismo y está de bajón últimamente. Lo he quitado de mi equipo y a esperar tiempos mejores.
• Eley: Partido difícil para él, nada recomendable.
• Asselin: Muy buena racha la que llevaba antes de este 9, que tampoco es una catástrofe. Creo que contra Pamesa y en casa lo puede hacer muy bien (en la ida se marcó un 27) pero ya se sabe que las plazas de extracomunitario están muy caras. Si queréis algo diferente es vuestro hombre.
• Sonseca: ¿Qué te pasa amigo? Parece que se le acabó la racha de pocos minutos y grandes valoraciones. Ahora sigue teniendo pocos minutos pero ya no hace buenas valoraciones. Le vienen partidos asequibles, si se comporta bien esta jornada puede ser aconsejable para las siguientes.
• Savane: Ha sido mi elegido para suplir a Triguero. Bastante regular, en la ida (fuera de casa) un 25, aconsejable.
• Haislip: Me gusta bastante este jugador, muy atlético, puede meter algún triplillo… Está en mi equipo aunque la verdad es que lo habría quitado por Roe si hubiese tenido un cambio más. Contra el León, a priori, le veo haciendo un partido normalillo, a ver si le pilla enchufado y nos da una alegría a los que optemos por él.
• Page-Roe: Se enfrentan entre ellos, y recomendaría a los dos.

Además pintan bien los pivots de Pamesa, me decantaría por Stanko Barac, más económico y creo que lo hará mejor.

Pues hasta aquí mi análisis, no se aceptan reclamaciones post-jornada, que a toro pasado todo el mundo acierta. Espero que sea de vuestro agrado, un abrazo y mucha suerte a todos.
