Alongside yesterday's "A Pug and a Puppy" post, one of them left behind this toy in my office.

A Hollywood musician by the name of Jerry Riopelle invented the device (invented as in: "was the first to conceive a Laser Harp financially accessible to the public"). He obtained a distribution deal through Sharper Image selling it at $600. Now that Sharper went kaput the price went down to $400.

The Beamz is sold with W shaped arches that you can fold, a USB cable to hook up to a computer, and some drivers. Six lasers shoot out from the arches, each representing a channel of some pre-determined track. You place an object in front of the laser and you got the sound from the channel playing. The Beamz comes complete with 30 songs in 19 musical genres with more songs available from www.thebeamz.com for $1.99 each.

The Beamz is getting pretty bad hype from from many tech websites because of this video that frankly seems as if it were produced in the early nineties.

I thought long and hard to choose which video to embed and decided upon this one. There are quite a few funny ones on youtube anyways.

Reviews are actually pretty mixed as some people find it to be a great entertainment tool and others a rip-off made to make you look like a douche. I still have yet to figure out if we can import our own mp3 tracks to mix them, which would be rather cool making the Beamz experience more instrumental. If you only use the tracks they give you, it's nothing more than a toy. Makes up for a great xmas gift if you're willing to spend the money. As to whether the device should be called an instrument, again if we could import our tracks, sure why not, if not then I'll leave it as musical gadget for the musically challenged (though I'd still buy one if I was loaded :)

The Beamz will find it's niche for sure, as it appeals to that large category of people on this earth who are positively certain, for whatever reason, that they are completely incapable of playing a real instrument. If the wagging tail of their dog can produce harmonious music with it, who knows what they could come up with?

I just love the two sets of eyes, crazy arms, and the way his ears are in his armpits... so cute!

Over Labor Day weekend, we watched one of our friend's dog, a cute little pug. We went camping, but other than that just hung around the house. It turned out to be a pretty low-key holiday, which was fine by us.

The Pug and our Portuguese Water Dog, Cubbie, got along great. Cubbie wanted to play with The Pug a lot, but all he wanted to do was sleep.

The funniest aspect of the whole weekend was the fact that I had not the normal one dog, but now two dogs follow me wherever I went. I referred to them as my entourage. Going to my office? They'd wake up and follow me. Going to the kitchen? There. Bathroom? Oh yes... they just wanted to sleep, eat, play and know what The Blonde One was up to. Dare I say I felt like a celebrity? :)

So The Pug was picked up yesterday and Cubbie misses him... come back and visit anytime!

Toy Break es un buen Video Podcast acerca de juguetes. Aunque pasan casi la mitad del tiempo nombrando a sus auspiciadores, cuentan buenos datos acerca de Art Toys y juguetes nuevos que van apareciendo.

No se pierdan estos buenos reviews que puedan descargar en distintos formatos o verlo On Line directo de su sitio.

Para petani itu sangat pantas melayangkan protes. Buat mereka, urusan padi [pangan] itu di atas segalanya. Mereka bersedia mengorbankan apa pun demi melindungi miliknya. Jadi jangan sampean tipu mereka!

Lagi pula, milih nama kok ya Super Toy -- mengingatkan kita pada "toy-toy" yang lain. Halah. Apa ndak ada nama yang lebih bagus, yang hokinya gede gitu lo.

The pattern was much easier than I thought it would be, and the whole thing took less than a day. I got the yarn at the yarn shop on Passyunk... keeping it local. (thought it would be kinda cool for a baby toy to be made from yarn bought a few blocks away from thier house)

All in all, I'd say it was a successful present!

Oh, I forgot to mention (but you can clearly see) that I'm a big fan of Josef Muller Brockmann.

Esta figura mantiene los colores originales del personaje en la serie, mide 15" de alto aproximadamente y su valor es de ￥8,790 (son yenes japoneses).

No hay que desesperar eso si, ya que por lo menos aqui en Chile, ya han llegado los otros Masterpiece, sin excepción, así que Thundercracker, quizás toque la loza de algun aeropuerto Chileno, muy pronto.
