I stumbled across a blog yesterday that will be a new fav: the Feathered Nest.  I found there, such a great variety from free tutorials to tutorials that can be purchased.  She has some wonderful crafting ideas that have even been published in Somerset Studio which is another personal fav.  Another attraction is that she offers many free vintage images that you can snag, with her permission, and use in your own artwork.  What a great idea.  This was a worthwhile visit for me and it made me, once again, look through some of my old stuff to see what wonderful things I had in my own personal stash.  It seems that each time I look through those old, wonderful books, there is so much there takes my breath away, even the ever-so-fragile pages.

I first wanted to find something that I could use for a bit of Sunday Inspiration!  This comes from a second grade reader from 1883.  Second grade was a long time ago for me...this is a perfect reminder.

I'm adding this next picture for my sweet girl who I miss so much!...she loves umbrellas.

It comes from a very old copy (can't find the date) of Stevenson's - A Child's Garden of Verses

Depois de ver o twitter do betones sobre uma matéria da revista Época, que fala de como era feita a propaganda sobre os cigarros, que diziam até que fazia bem a saúde, resolvi dar uma olhada no material que está disponível na net.

Não vou tocar no assunto se é ético ou não, mas as refências que a industria tabagista formou nas nossas vidas são dificeís de não reconhecer.

Quem não ficava assoprando no frio do inverno para fingir que era fumaça, pois tinha visto algum filme onde os galãs sempre estavam fumando e ficavam com as gatinhas mais cobiçadas?! Ou não se imaginou como um dos bad boys em cima de uma moto, pagando de gatinho?

As propagandas mudaram o nosso comportamento e a forma da arte quanto a elas.
Só vou postar aqui as imagens das propagandas mais vintage, afinal, as mais atuais todos conhecem e são nojentas :P

Astazi a fost un targ de haine vintage si am zis sa merg si eu cu Deea sa vad despre ce e vorba in propozitie si poate sa-mi cumpar ceva mai vechi dar care arata misto. Hainele astea nu sunt super purtate, ce le face sa fie cautate este tocmai timpul care a trecut peste ele.

Asadar a fost un targ la care au participat mai multi detinatori de bloguri prin care se vand astfel de haine si nu numai in cadrul Cafepedia. Intrarea a fost 10 Lei, dar primeai o bautura din partea casei, adica o apa plata sau vodca tonica, aici un minus pentru ca barmanii spuneau ca nu mai au apa plata cand am ajuns noi, sa trecem cu vederea peste taxa de intrare poate ca trebuia platita chiria pentru locatie, dar pe viitor e de preferat sa nu mai existe zic eu :) . Nu am cumparat nimic pentru ca nu am avut ce...vintage nu este chiar stilul Deei, iar pentru baieti nu prea se gasesc lucruri :-? . Ca un alt sfat- cred ca ar trebui ca barbatii sa aiba intrare libera avand in vedere articolele putine si plus ca persoanele de sex feminin au si intrare gratis in cluburi si mai multe haine pe care le pot cumpara ;)

Am venit acasa si am pus-o si pe mama la curent cu ce se intampla pe partea asta de fashion asa ca s-a gandit ea ce haine mai vechi are si pe care ar putea sa le vanda si cum eu am mereu idei m-am gandit sa o pun de un blog vintage pentru mama, domeniul e MamaVintage si poate ca in curand o sa apara ceva pe el daca o vad pe mama mult indreptata spre antreprenoriat :P . It's not all bad though! Like, I believe that for a person to not notice flowers while walking past them or a variety of colors of leaves on the ground is missing out. Flat out. Or if a person doesn't look for patterns in the clouds at least once a week or whenever they get to see them if in Southern California.... their life is void of imagination.  One more: No women looks good in spandex. I am not discriminating against the heavier women because I probably have more cellulite then most women out there.... but all women just shouldn't wear it! Nothing good comes from wearing it!

Pour aller voir mon amie Catherine "balancer" sur scène en quartet! Vraiment, ses performances live sont excellentes et toujours un grand plaisir - de jolies mélodies, des textes personnels avec ce qu'il faut de poésie et d'humour subtil, et des classiques de jazz ou de chanson française, en compagnie de très bons musiciens.

Bref, un concert et after géniaux, vraiment dans la bonne humeur et en excellente compagnie!

Pour en savoir davantage sur elle, et surtout trouver un prochain concert - car même si je ne suis pas fan de ses chansons studio, j'admire son énergie, sa présence et son talent sur scène et c'est bien là qu'il faut la découvrir - RDV sur son myspace.



(J'en oublierais la tenue!)

In crisis times, who wants Balmain or Phillip Lim when you've got vintage? Apparently, this kind of drummer jackets are everywhere at Californian vintage stores. The guy frome The End (shop at street Velarde, 1, Madrid) has brought some of them to my city and they are reaaaaally nice.

This 3,600 square foot, three level wunderkammer is a treasure trove of artifacts.

If I am a good girl, maybe I'll get to spend eternity here in the afterlife. I see the beauty of sparse, uncluttered spaces with perfect Feng Shui, but I tend to feel very comfortable in places that are cozy and thick with history. Every square inch of Walker's library contains a story, literally or figuratively.

Walker's home was actually built to accommodate this library (an idea I frequently daydream about). Rare historical artifacts line every shelf, wall and table. I can't begin to cover the scope of it here, but all oddities lovers should check out Wired's fantastic article.

Absolutely the most intriguing collection I've seen since my trip to the Mutter Museum. Too bad it's not open to the public. Anyone want to petition Jay walker for a private tour with me?

This little dude is a plaster duck that used to hang in my grammy's bathroom.  Somehow I ended up with the set (1 big mama duck and 3 little guys), but this is the only one I still have.  Argh!  I took the picture in late afternoon sunlight and left it with this warm, blurry, 70s look because it makes me nostalgic.

And since I am having a lazy Friday night I have decided to hold off on another long, picture-heavy post which means the napkin corset set will have to wait until Sunday most likely.
